Crippes, Raymond Peter Joseph   

PARIS, Ill. — Raymond Peter Joseph Crippes, 81, of Paris, Ill., died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday,
Jan. 31, 2008, in his home. He was born Dec. 25, 1926, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Lawrence Henry
Crippes and Barbara Katherine Schile Crippes. He married Charlotte Aarnink Crippes in 1950
in Terre Haute, and she survives. He was owner/operator of Ray’s Super Service.Survivors
include his wife; daughter, Lugene Joines and husband Dennis of Paris; son, Timothy Crippes
of Paris; daughter, Jolene Crippes-Callaway and husband Rick of Palestine, Ill.; two sisters,
Joyce Penman of Uniclaw, Wash., and Pearl Ann Crippes of California; one half-sister,
Margaret Conrad of Holy Cross, Iowa; grandson, Ryan Crippes and wife Heather of Paris; four
granddaughters, Rachel Scholes and husband Jeremy of Chaplin, Ky., Sara Crippes and
Laurie Crippes, both of Paris, and Lisa Tabor and husband Scott of Indianapolis; grandson,
Leemon Brown and wife Tiffany of Jupiter, Fla.; and three great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers.He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy,
Seaman 1C, in World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 211 and a member
of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Paris. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed
watching his children participate in their activities.Following cremation, a memorial mass will
take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Paris, with the
Rev. David Zimmerman officiating. At the family’s request, there will be no visitation. Private
burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home in
Paris assisted with arrangements. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made
to Faith In Action or St. Mary’s Church Building Fund.  
Grimes, Elmer J.    

MONTEZUMA — Elmer J. Grimes, 80, of Montezuma, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, in
Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Lyndonville, N.Y., to Elmer F.
Grimes and Esther Zanow Grimes. He married Gene C. Barnum on Feb. 7, 1948, and she
survives. Survivors include his wife, with whom he would have celebrated his 60th wedding
anniversary on Feb. 7, 2008; a son, Bruce Grimes and wife Eva June of Terre Haute; a sister-
in-law, Veva Wienke of Lyndonville, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was
preceded in death by his parents.Elmer served in the Merchant Marine and the U.S. Army
during World War II. He worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company for more than 27
years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Christian Church in Montezuma and a
volunteer fireman for Montezuma Fire Department for more than 20 years. He was an avid
race fan, especially area short track and modifieds. He enjoyed woodworking and collecting
banks.Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St.,
with the Rev. Monte Reichenberg officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is
4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  
Franz, Marion Ruth    

Marion Ruth Franz, 89, of Terre Haute died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, in Southwood Health and
Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 20, 1918, in Michigan to Clarence Bernard Shields
and Lillian Gladfelter Shields. She was a homemaker.Survivors include her daughters, Nancy
Raubuch and husband Jack of Terre Haute, Susan Franz of Greencastle, and Donna Smith
and husband E. Ricky Smith of Muncie; granddaughters, Aimee Cobb and husband Cyle of
Minnesota and Molly Smith of Muncie; sisters, Pearl Smith of Mesa, Ariz., Gladys McKeown of
Eastpointe, Mich., and Doreen Winner and husband Stanley of Utica, Mich.; and several
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George W.
Franz who passed away Dec. 17, 1989; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.Marion
was an avid bibliophile and had been a collector of books for more than 50 years. Prayers
are at 9:20 a.m. today in Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., followed by
Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Rick Ginther
officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family requests that memorial

Goble, Lavelda M. Johnson    

Lavelda M. Johnson Goble, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, in her
home. She was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Greene County to Earl Bales and Dola Ringo Bales.
Lavelda was employed at Indiana State University from 1961 to 1987, where she was helpful,
in her gracious manner, to a multitude of faculty members and students. She retired as
administrative assistant to the president emerita, after having served under ISU President
Alan Rankin and Richard Landini. Her husbands, Dr. Jack Johnson and Lloyd Goble,
preceded her in death.Survivors include cousins, Mary Colbert, Mary “Short” Yount, Donnie
and Harold Richardson, and Faye Vandeventer; sister-in-law, Nora Belle Reed;
stepdaughter, Bonnie Goble; stepson, Larry Goble; many nieces and nephews; and
numerous beloved friends.She was a member of ISU Friends of the Library and Terre Haute
YMCA boards. She had been active in professional organizations including Altrusa
International, Terre Haute Business and Professional Women, Administrative Professionals,
Heart of the Nation Chapter, and Professional Secretaries International. She was a beloved
member of the Wednesday Breakfast Women. She was a member of the Southside and
Eastside Churches of Christ and their Senior Seekers group.Services are 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with the Revs. Ken Grubb
and Peter Reed officiating. Interment is in Roselawn Mausoleum. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday at the funeral home. For those who choose, memorial contributions may be made to

Doolittle, Wayne   

He was born Jan. 22, 1924, in Terre Haute, to Herman and Goldie Scott Doolittle. Happily
married for 58 years, Wayne and Virginia Snow Doolittle were married Jan. 30, 1949, she
preceded him in death. He and his family were founding members of Rio Grande Baptist
Church. Wayne served in World War II as a Naval aviator and was active in the reserve for
10 years. He worked for and retired, in 1986, from the U.S. Postal Service, where he was
stationed at Twelve Points office and the Annex for most of his career. He is survived by his
sons, Gary W. Doolittle and wife Kathleen of Velpen, and Brian K. Doolittle and wife LouAnn
of Neenah, Wis.; grandchildren, Emily S. Poole and husband Adam of Evansville, Allison K.
Layton and husband Chris of Terre Haute, Joseph B. Doolittle of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and
James E. Doolittle of Menomonie, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Ayden Poole, and
Kiersten and Colten Layton; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in
death by a son, Steven Paul Doolittle; his parents; a sister, Pauline Piper; and a brother,
James Doolittle. Service are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton
Foreign Wars Post 972. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Virgil Ray Higginbotham, 90, of Terre Haute, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at Meadows Manor
Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 29, 1917, in Kentucky, to Byron Joe Higginbotham
and Verda Mae Helms Higginbotham. He worked more than 30 years at Terre Haute Mallable
Steel Factory. He married Mary Waneta Gulley in 1937, and she preceded him in death on
June 19, 1999.Survivors include seven sons, Jerry, Ken, Tom, Ed, Terry, Albert and Joe
Higginbotham; two daughters, Geneva Boles of Terre haute, and Cathy Heffler of South
Carolina; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a
sister, Ada Lemons of Terre Haute; a brother, Thomas Higginbotham of Terre Haute; two
brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in
death by his parents; a son. James Ray Higginbotham; and a grandson, Jimmy Ray
Higginbotham.He was a lifetime member of Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Moose Lodge.
He enjoyed building things and traveling. Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Roselawn
Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with the Rev. Adam Smith and Guy Boles officiating.
Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is noon until services Thursday.
Puckett, Kaye "Cookie" (Jenkins)

Kaye “Cookie” Jenkins Puckett, 66, of Terre Haute passed away at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday
Feb. 6, 2008, in Union Hospital. She was born June 8, 1941, in Terre Haute to Maruice
Wood, Addaline    

BRAZIL — Addaline Wood, 97, of Brazil died at 9:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at Cloverleaf
Healthcare Facility. She was born Aug. 12, 1910, in Clinton, to Daniel E. Payton and Ora
Woodburn Payton. She graduated in 1930 from Nevins Township High School. She was the
wife of Leon Wood, and he preceded her in death in August 1977. She was a homemaker,
wife, mother and loving grandmother.Survivors include her nieces, Ramona Murphy and
Rita Hoke, both of Brazil; nephew, John Payton of Fontanet; six grandchildren, Chuck Wood
of Colorado Springs, Michelle Seals of Bluffton, Mary Flesher of Brazil, Jim Wood and wife
Molly of Mooresville, Joy Wood and Julie Snow, both of Brazil; eight great-grandchildren;
one great-great-grandchild; and other extended family. She also was preceded in death by
her son, Jerry Wood, on Nov. 23, 1998; a sister, Anna Lee Russell; and a brother, Redginal
Payton.Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave., with
Mark Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute.
Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Thursday.  
Wood, Donald Gene    

Donald Gene Wood, 66, of Terre Haute died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, in Union Hospital. He
was born Nov. 12, 1941, in Inkster, Mich., to Donald W. Wood and Mildred Rudisel Wood.
He was a Vietnam Army veteran. Survivors include three sisters, Beverly Tonetti, Linda
Cooper, and Patty Rogers, and one brother, Terry Lee Wood and his wife Joyce, all of
Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents;
and a sister, Sharon Kay Wood. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in
Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street with the Rev. Dennis Leek
officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until services Friday. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial
Park.  
Cooper, Lela Ellen    

Lela Ellen Cooper, 76, a native of Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008,
at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born on Nov. 19, 1931, in rural Marshall, Ind., to
Roy and Lula Hutson. She was a former owner of Cut and Curl Beauty Shop in Rockville for
several years. She retired from Terre Haute First National Bank after 26 years as Assistant
Vice President of Personnel. She loved cooking for friends and family, and she loved to
fish.She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Rockville. She was a member of
Alpha Sigma Epsilon Sorority and a charter member of Phi Chapter. She graduated from
Waveland High School at Waveland. She was a past secretary and treasurer of American
Women in Banking in Vigo County. She married Jack Cooper of Rockville on June 16,
1956.Survivors include a son, Douglas Cooper and his wife Lisa; a daughter, Dianna
Cooper; grandchildren, Chance Douglas and Hope Anne; siblings, Avalene Harrison of
Kingman, Delores Sewell and her husband Leonard of Crawfordsville; sister-in-law, Doris
Loy and her husband Bill of Rockville; brother-in-law Steve Cooper and his wife Nancy of
Rockville; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caregiver, Michelle Hovey
of Clinton.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who passed away on
Sept. 4, 1979; and two brothers, Charles and Roy Hutson Jr.Services will be at 10 a.m.
Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Don Perry officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m.
Friday in Roselawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of

Disney, Lyle E.    

Lyle E. Disney, 79, of Rochester, and formerly of Terre Haute, died Tuesday, Feb. 12,
2008, in Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester. He was born Sept. 19, 1928, in Taylorville, Ill., to
Clarence Disney and Virginia Bingham Disney. He was a retired millwright for the Budd
Company. Survivors include one son, Gary Disney and his wife Leigh Ann of Whiteland;
stepdaughter, Kris Kopecy and her husband Sonny of Statesville, N.C.; brothers, Clarence
Disney of Portage, and Paul Disney and his wife Ilene of Lebanon; sister, Sarah Rolando
of Warner Robbins, Ga.; grandchildren, Brian Disney and Mindy Disney; two great-
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Lethia Disney; his parents; and sisters, Melba Shaw, Myrle Campbell and Twyla Murawski.
He was a lifetime member of Terre Haute Lodge 19 Free and Accepted Masons, Moose
Lodge 1900 of Portage, and Fraternal Order of Eagles.Masonic funeral services will be
conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, in Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., by
Terre Haute Lodge 19. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.

Powell, Barbara June    

Barbara June Powell, 74, of Terre Haute, passed away Feb. 12, 2008, at Union Hospital.
She was born June 4, 1933, in New Lebanon, Ind, the youngest child of Clarence
Roseberry and Bessie (Gadberry) Roseberry. She married Donald Powell on July 9, 1952,
and he survives. She was a 1951 graduate of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis.
She worked at Prudential Insurance in Indianapolis from 1951 to 1954, and 1967 to 1981 in
customer and agent service. She was a former member of the Old Bethel Methodist Church
in Indianapolis. Her hobbies included her family. She was strongly family focused; a loving
and supportive wife, a wonderful mother and mother-in-law and grandmother. She had a
heart of love and service, constantly concerned for the needs of others before herself. She
was always making new friends. Survivors include her husband; daughter, Donna Rae
McCammon and husband Paul of Terre Haute; son, Donald R. Powell Jr. and wife Paula of
Terre Haute; Donna’s children, Stacy and Carolyn Stout and Tara Thomas; Don Jr.’s
children, Philip D. Powell, James H. Powell and Beth O. Powell; seven great-grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters,
Florence Butler, Della Mae Roseberry and Francis Phenis; and two brothers, Clarence and
Lawrence Roseberry. Funeral services are 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with
Christopher Murray presiding and accompanied by Fr. Stephen Rhudy and Deacon Elias
Corey officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Burial will follow in

Quinn, Shirley Ann    

Shirley Ann Quinn, 80, of Bluffton, Ohio and formerly of Terre Haute passed away at 6:24
p.m. Tuesday Feb. 12, 2008, in her residence. She was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Terre Haute
to Robert and Ruth Moorland McCool. She married Jack Quinn on April 19, 1945, and he
preceded her in death on April 6, 1983. She retired from Columbia Records in Terre Haute.
She loved puzzles and shopping. She is survived by her sons, Gerre Gene Quinn, and
Jack LeRoy Quinn and wife Rhonda, all of Terre Haute, and Gerre Jack Quinn and wife
Candy of Bluffton; daughters, Carolyn Frances Norris of Terre Haute, Mary Ellen Van Atta
of Bluffton, and Elizabeth Annis Medlock and husband Kevin of Lima, Ohio; 16
grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded
in death by her husband; and daughter, Barbara Ann Quinn.Graveside services will be
conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Chiles-Laman
Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the
family at 136 Cherry St. Bluffton, OH 45817.  
Arvin, Carol Valerie   

ROSEDALE — Carol Valerie Arvin (Vickers), 65, of Marion, Ky., and formerly of Rosedale,
went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 12, 2008, at Royal
Oaks Health and Rehab Center in Terre Haute. She was born on Aug. 14, 1942, in
Valparaiso to William J. Arvin and Helen L. Fishel Arvin.She graduated from Portage High
School in Portage, and then attended college in Chicago. She retired from Sony DADC.
She was an active member of Sulpher Springs Missionary Baptist Church of Mexico, Ky.
She enjoyed helping others, participating in church projects, and sewing. She loved
Westerns, her grandchildren, and baking treats for others. She also loved her animals.
Survivors include her children, Alexander N. Vickers of California, Valerie J. McCullough
and her husband Larry of Terre Haute, Brandi M. Vickers and her fiancé Jared P.
Mancourt of St. Bernice, Ind., and Harold L. McCullough Jr. of Terre Haute; grandchildren,
Larry McCullough Jr., Scott McCullough Sr., Kayla Lewis, Catlin McCullough, Jeremy Lewis,
Katrina King, Stormi Clore, Kyle McCullough, Gage Mancourt, and James Mancourt; great-
grandchildren Payton McCullough, Scott McCullough Jr., Noah McCullough, Avery
McCullough, and Chloe Cunningham; her former husband Charles N. Vickers of St.
Bernice; siblings, Tom Arvin of West Salem, Ill., Jean Walters and JoLynn Arvin, both of
Michigan; and her loving and faithful dog, Cinnamon.She was preceded in death by her
parents; one brother, Richard Arvin; and she has left behind many special friends.Funeral
services are 2 p.m. Friday in Roselawn Funeral Home with Brother Joe Baker officiating.
Visitation will be noon until services Friday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in
Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Wible, Evelyn Reynolds    

Evelyn Reynolds Wible, 80, of Muncie, formerly of Terre Haute, died Thursday evening,
Feb. 14, 2008, in Westminster Health Care, following an extended illness. She was born on
Nov. 1, 1927, in Nortonville, Ky., to Eural Hanson Reynolds and Grace Crick Reynolds.She
was the fifth child born to the Reynolds union and is survived by an older sister, Mary J.
Walker; her husband of 54 years, Darrell E. Wible; and several nieces and nephews.As a
teenager during World War II, she worked as a bundle girl in Earlington parachute factory.
She sang in church choir and was prominent in school activities as a cheerleader, and
other singing, dancing, and entertaining. After graduating from Earlington High School in
1945, she attended the Owensboro Hospital School of Nursing under the U.S. Cadet Nurse
Program. She graduated as a registered nurse with honors from Union Hospital School of
Nursing and Indiana State University in Terre Haute in July 1963.Evelyn was employed as
a clerk and model at Meis Department Store, and was traffic director at radio station
WBOW in Terre Haute. While at WBOW, she met Darrell Wible, sports director of the
station. The couple was married in 1954, in the Earlington Christian Church. As a
registered nurse she worked at The Ohio State University, Mount Carmel Hospital, in
Columbus Ohio, Union Hospital and Associated Physicians and Surgeons Clinic, both in
Terre Haute.She was a member of the Central Christian Church in Terre Haute and
attended Hazelwood Christian Church in Muncie.There will be no services or visiting hours
in Muncie. A brief service 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Central Christian Church in Terre Haute
with the Rev. Rebecca Zelensky officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Cemetery, 7500 Clinton
Road, Terre Haute. Friends may call at the church from 12:30 p.m. until time of service.

Cline, Vivian H.  

Vivian H. Cline, 87, of Terre Haute, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, in St. Vincent Hospital in
Indianapolis. She was born Dec. 9, 1920, in Parke County, to Warren Hocker and Edna
Owen Hocker. She worked as a secretary for Garfield High School, the U.S. Penitentiary,
and Vigo County School Corporation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard
Loyd Cline, in 2002.Survivors include one daughter, Ann Tornese and her husband Lin of
Terre Haute; one son, Howard Loyd Cline III and his wife Susan of Avon Lake, Ohio; one
sister, Marian Hocker of Terre Haute; one granddaughter, Kelly Cline of Lakewood; and
several nieces and nephews. Vivian was a 1938 graduate of Garfield High School. Funeral
services will be private. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. There is no visitation.

Prather, Fred   

Fred Prather, 88, of Terre Haute, died at 4:19 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, in Terre Haute
Regional Hospital. He was born Nov. 17, 1919, in Vigo County, to John Sebon Prather and
Margaret Kelley Prather. He was retired from the Vigo County School
Corporation.Survivors include his wife, Laura Bell Prather; two sons, Ronald and his wife
LaRee Prather of Augusta, Ga., and Robert and his wife Susan Davis of Terre Haute; one
daughter, Romona Russell of Terre Haute; one brother, John and his wife Jean Prather of
Terre Haute; four sisters, Mildred Lewis of Niles, Mich., Evelyn Roberts and Hazel Belleu,
both of West Terre Haute, and Estella Shadow of Terre Haute; three grandchildren,
Michelle Layko and her husband Major Joseph Layko in the U.S. Marine Corps, Julie Davis
and Jill Davis; five great-grandchildren, Steven Layko, Samantha Layko, Joey Layko,
Ashley Haraway and Nolan Phillips; and one sister-in-law, Deneta Campbell of Brazil.He
was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorval Campbell Prather; three sisters,
Mary Phelps, Shirley Prather and Betty Prather; and two brothers, Danny Prather and
Norman Prather.He was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the 9th Infantry
Division of the 176th field artillery battalion and having received seven stars of victory. He
served in North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, France, Belgium, Germany and England. He was
a member of Shelburn American Legion Post 197 and Prairieton Masonic Lodge 178 Free
and Accepted Mason.Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday in DeBaun Funeral Home
Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with the Rev. Chris Wilbur officiating. Burial is in
Roselawn Memorial Park with graveside military rites conducted by Shelburn American

Andis, Ellen M.    

Ellen M. Andis, 71, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday afternoon, Feb. 15, 2008, in Union
Hospital. She was born on March 14, 1936, in Terre Haute, to Charles Isaac Payne and
Vellie Mae Leslie Payne.Survivors include her husband, Robert Andis, whom she married
in 1966; four children, Fred Cottom and his wife Linda, April Wolaver and her husband
Lyle, all of Terre Haute, Debbie Hutchison and her husband Herb of Columbus, Ohio, and

and a great-granddaughter, Addyson Jean Breehl.She was a member of Mount Aetna
Baptist Church. She also was a Red Hat Society member and a member of several Bunco
clubs. She loved people, and having company, she was a person who would do anything
for anyone, and she was a person, people could always count on. She loved cooking and
Thanksgiving. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N.
Clinton St., with Pastor Richard Dragon officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Paige, Marjorie Elaine Hunt    

Marjorie Elaine Hunt Paige, 86, of Sycamore Manor died at 5:35 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18,
2008, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born Oct. 22, 1921, near New Lebanon,
to Verne and Margaret Youngman Hunt. She was a homemaker and had been employed
by Terre Haute Advertising, F.R. Ryan Co., and Modern Equipment Sales. Her husband,
Thomas Leonard Paige, whom she married on Jan. 26, 1945, preceded her in death on
Oct. 23, 1998. Survivors include three sons, Thomas Lawrence Paige and wife Barbara of
Buena Park, Calif., Bradley Paige and wife Jackee of Terre Haute, and Martin Paige and
his special friend Patricia Lamaster of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren, Larry Paige and
Donna of Florence, Leslie Paige of Buena Park, Steven Paige of Kent, Wash., Amy Paige
of Terre Haute, Ryan Paige of Manchester, N.H., Matthew Paige and wife Amber, and
Manda Paige, all of Georgetown, Ill., and Derek Paige of Eugene; six great-grandsons;
one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded
in death by her parents; and two brothers, Ernest Hunt and Maurice “Mark” Hunt.She was
a 1939 graduate of New Lebanon High School and attend Browns Business College.

Friedman, Pauline Faye   

Pauline Faye Friedman, 82, of Terre Haute died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, in
Royal Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 22, 1925, in West
Terre Haute to Robert Lloyd Lacy and Martha Leona Ramsey Lacy. She was preceded in
death by her first husband, Charles Edward “Bud” Parrett; and her second husband, John
Friedman. Survivors include a half sister, Mary Jane Elder and husband Norman of Terre
Haute; two half brothers, Thomas Isbell and wife Patty, and Fredrick Eugene Isbell and
wife Anne, all of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in
death by her parents; a son, Eddie Joe Friedman; a brother, Edward Lacy; a sister, Alice
Marie Lacy Higgins; a half brother, Franklin Allen Isbell; and a half sister, Jennie Lee Isbell.
She was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 Auxiliary and the
Kerman Caldron-Daughters of Mokanna. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Callahan-
DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., with the Rev. David Deal officiating. Burial is

Thomas F. Robinson, 91, of Terre Haute died at 4:25 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at
Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born April 22, 1916, in Staunton, Ill., to Thomas
Robinson Sr. and Elizabeth Furcamp. During his lifetime he worked for Blue Velvet
Brewery, Stran Steel, and retired from Anaconda Aluminum. He was preceded in death by
his wife of 37 years, Thelma Jane Robinson.Survivors include three sons and
daughters-in-law, Don and Marsha Robinson of Spring, Texas, Jim and Linda Robinson of
Oswego, Ill., and Paul and Cindy Lou Robinson of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren,
Doug Robinson, Jenny Harper, Cari Hunt, Andy Robinson, Brooke Michael, Brittany
Robinson and Kacey Robinson; stepgrandchildren, Hannah Wortman, Layne Wortman,
Eric Robinson and Brittany Robinson; seven great-grandchildren, Gracelyn and Bradley
Robinson, Jovie Harper, Cassie, Devon and Whitley Hunt, and Chad Michael. He also was
preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Robinson; and two sisters, Leona Hamilton and
Josephine Kulinski.He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of Sacred Heart

Our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, Thomas Kellett Jr., returned
to the arms of his Heavenly Father, surrounded by his family, on Friday, Feb. 15, 2008,
following a brief illness. Thomas was born Oct. 15, 1925, in Marion Heights, to Thomas
William Kellett and Josephine Taylor. He later moved to Pennsylvania, where he spent his
teenage years, until joining the U.S. Navy. He was a veteran of World War II.He is survived
by his two daughters, Linda McCullough of Terre Haute, and Rose Marie Jones and
husband Richard of St. George, Utah; one brother, William Kellett of Terre Haute; one
niece, Christina Kellett; two stepdaughters, Brenda McCullough and Connie Guerin; seven
grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55
years, Myrtle Bemis Kellett; and a daughter, Irene Kellett. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at
Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette St., with the Rev. Bill Herb officiating.
Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park, with graveside military rites conducted by Veterans of

Henley, Robert S.  

Robert S. Henley, 80, of Terre Haute passed away early Saturday morning, Feb. 16,
2008, at Royal Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 5, 1927, in
Mattoon, Ill., to Thomas Edward and Selma Anna Eversole Henley.He graduated from
Arcola High School in Illinois, Class of 1944. He later went on to Purdue University and
received his bachelor’s degree in agriculture in 1951. He served in the United States Army
from 1944 to 1946. In October 1956, he married the love of his life, Mary Katherine
Enders Henley. Robert worked for the Terre Haute Postal System for 30 years and retired
on Dec. 27, 1985, as supervisor of the North Terre Haute Post Office. He was a very
active member at Eighth Avenue Baptist Church, and enjoyed model railroading and
traveling with his wife.Survivors include a brother, Roger Henley and his wife Margaret of
Marshall, Ind.; and a sister, Dr. Mary Henley Rubio of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Also
surviving are two cousins; three nieces, one nephew; six great-nieces; five great-nephews;
and six great-grand-nephews. He was preceded by his parents; his wife, who passed away
on Sept. 21, 2006; one brother-in-law; and four first cousins.Visitation will be held on
Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. Services
will be at 1 p.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Dick Smith officiating. Burial will follow in

ROSEDALE — Minnie Russell Ricauda, 94, of Rosedale, passed away at 12:40 a.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, in her residence. She was born March 30, 1913, in Hillsdale, to
Joseph Williamson and Mamie York Williamson. She worked in the mail room at Columbia
Records in Terre Haute. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Adrian “Adie”
Russell; and her second husband, Domenic Ricauda, on March 13, 1987.Survivors
include her daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Ron Mack of Rosedale; grandchildren,
Rhonda Huxford and husband James of Rosedale, Mark Mack and wife Debbie of Clinton;
great-grandchildren, Kylee Willhite, Alisha White, Jamie Mack, Chase Huxford, Cody Mack,
and Ryan Mack; one great-great-grandson, Aden Domenic Werner; and several nieces
and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and one
sister.She was a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton. Services are 1 p.m. today at
Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., in Clinton, with the Rev. Don Rissler officiating.

Infant Collyn David Thurston was born Feb. 18, 2008, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
He is survived by his parents, Joseph D. Thurston and Barbara M. Sturgis; a sister, Kara
Sturgis; and a brother, Paul Sturgis all of Poland; five aunts, Jaclyn Starkey and husband
Thad of Brazil, Lynda Ellington and husband Troy of Clay City, Paula and Leora Sturgis,

Lively and husband Steve of Terre Haute, Julia Sturgis and husband Paul of Poland, and

Bloomington, Mary Sturgis of Worthington, Mary Wilson of Terre Haute and Loretta

Head, Juanita J.   

Juanita J. Head, 76, of Terre Haute passed away Wednesday morning at Union Hospital.
She was born on Sept. 18, 1931, in Terre Haute to Carl Swalls and Katherine (Edwards)
Carrico.She worked at Wal-Mart in Terre Haute as the Shoe Department Manager in
earlier years. In the 1970s, she ran the concession stands at Babe Ruth. She loved
bowling and was on several different women’s leagues, traveling all over the United States
playing in tournaments. She loved following all of her grandchildren’s activities and she
never missed any of their games. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church
in Terre Haute.Survivors include children, Allen Lindley and his wife Suzanne of Terre
Haute, Randy Lindley and companion Nancy Rudisel, Bob Head and his companion Darla
McClain, all of Terre Haute, Tom Head of Benton, Mo., and Georgann Welsh and her
husband Randy of Dennison, Ill. Other survivors include grandchildren, Matt and Marc
Welsh, Chris Lindley, Dana Lindley and his wife Mandi, Kristin and Jessica Head, and
Kenny McClain; great-grandchildren, Nathan and Drew Lindley; and one brother, Jack P.
Swalls and his wife Barbara of West Terre Haute. Also surviving are several nieces and
nephews, and a sister-in-law, Doris Smith of West Terre Haute. She was preceded in
death by her parents; her husband, Robert Head, who passed away Jan. 9, 1985; and two

Cleola Violet “Babe” Hutson, 98, of Terre Haute, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, in Davis
Gardens Health Center. She was born July 16, 1909, in Vigo County, to Ashland Clay
Seeders and Cleola Frances Furman. She married Cecil Seymour “Dayton” Hutson on
March 29, 1926, and he preceded her in death.Survivors include two nieces, Juanita
Yanok and Frances Hutson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a
sister, Opal Gusin; and a brother, John Ashland Cedars.Babe was a member of Bethel

Nadine F. Eaton Nicoson, 93, of Terre Haute, died at 2:12 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20,
daughter of Rexford and Inez Bennett Eaton. She was a self employed bookkeeper. She
married Noval Nicoson on Nov. 24, 1933, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 6,
1987.Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Ferguson and Sheila Nicoson; a son, Jay
Nicoson and his wife Laura, all of Terre Haute; nine grandchildren, 19
great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Norman Eaton
and Carroll Eaton; and a sister, Betty Bennett Clark.She was a member of Agape
Christian Church, Maryland Home Extension Club, where she was a life member, Honey
Creek High School Alumni Association, and a Mother Bee.Funeral services are 11 a.m.

Elizabeth J. Hubbs, 67, of Terre Haute, passed away early Thursday morning, Feb. 21,
2008, in Harborside Healthcare-Terre Haute. She was born on Nov. 12, 1940, in Terre
Haute, to Vaughn and Mamie Earle Jennings. Survivors include her children, Loretta
Richey of Marion, Dan Glasgow and his wife Lori of Sullivan, Ron French and his wife
Karen of Perrysville, and Barbara Kelly and her husband Matthew of Marion; several
grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and siblings, Alcona Groves and her husband
Kenneth, and Richard Jennings and his wife Virginia. She was preceded in death by her
parents; and four siblings, Alfred Jennings, Lewis Jennings, Vaughn Jennings Jr., and
Margaret Terstegge.She worked as a bartender for many years at several different
places. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion in Rosedale and a
member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 Ladies Auxiliary in Terre Haute. She

Mable M. North, 103, of Terre Haute, went to be with the Lord at 1:30 p.m. Thursday,
Feb. 21, 2008, in Southwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Terre Haute. She was
born April 21, 1904, in West Terre Haute, to William Hants and Lula Arthur Hants. She
had previously been employed as a bookkeeper, auditor and stenographer for the former
Metropolitan Department Store in downtown Terre Haute.Survivors include a son, David
Morgan North, who was a naval aviator, and his wife Vicki of McLean, Va.; three
grandchildren, Eric North and his wife Dr. Karen North of Santa Monica, Calif., Dr. Kendra
Ward and her husband Jeff of Chevy Chase, Va., and Triston North and his wife Sarah of
Richmond, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Conor Ward, Ryan Ward, Mallory North and
Brian North; special caregivers, Dorothy and Jim Chrisman and Zelda Bedwell; and many
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph I.
North, in 1992; four sisters, Jeanette Schwab, Eva Nees, Iva Johnston, and Hilda
Chrisman; and a brother, Arthur Hants.She was a 1922 graduate of the former Valley
High School in West Terre Haute. She was a member of the Bethany United Church Of
Christ Church in West Terre Haute. She had been affiliated with the Eastern Star and
was recognized as an international poet.Private burial in Roselawn Memorial Park has
been arranged with no services or visitation at this time. A memorial service will be held at

Mary F. South Walker, 98, of Terre Haute died Saturday morning, Feb. 23, 2008, in
Meadows Manor East. She was retired from the former Montgomery Ward Department
Store. She was born Oct. 17, 1909, in Lawrence County, Ill., to Ross C. Organ and Mary
Salter Organ. Both of her husbands, Ernest “Chick” South and Harold C. Walker,
preceded her in death. Survivors include a grandson, the Rev. John L. Thompson and
his wife Carol of Terre Haute; three great-grandchildren, Heather Lopez, Holly Gayhart,
and John Thompson; 10 great-great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Samuel Walker and
Kenneth Walker and their families, of California; a stepdaughter, Valerie Slaughter and
her family, of the state of Washington; a half sister, Betsy Templeton of the state of
Washington; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her
parents; a daughter, Nancee South Falber; a sister, Louise Gayner; a brother, Gene
Organ; and a stepbrother, Frank E. Haynes.Mary was a member of Maple Avenue United
Methodist Church, where she was active in the Circle 5 Ladies Group. She also was very
active in Twelve Points Chapter 528 Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a past
matron, organist and was past president of the Emera Club, was a royal past matron of
Terre Haute Court 25 Order of the Amaranth, past worthy high priestess of Galilee
Shrine 7 White Shrine of Jerusalem, and was past noble grand of Rebekah Lodge 805.

Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., the with the Rev. John L. Thompson officiating.

John A. Kenlay, 89, longtime resident of Terre Haute, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, in
his residence. He was born Dec. 28, 1918, in Philadelphia, Pa., to John D. Kenlay and
Opal K. Alkire Kenlay. John retired from Powell-Stephenson Lumber Company in 1981.
Survivors include his daughter, Kathryn Burns of Bloomington; grandchildren, Laura Swift
and Matthew Brown, both of Bloomington; a sister, Patricia Morris of Terre Haute; and
nieces and nephews, Lesley Wilson, Jennifer Davidson, and Mike Morris, all of Terre
Haute. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Virginia L. Kenlay, who passed
away Sept. 29, 2006. John was a member of Terre Haute Masonic Lodge 19 Free and
Accepted Masons, York Rite, and Zorah Shrine. He was an avid golfer and played in a

Peggy L. Readinger, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday afternoon, Feb. 23,
2008, in Southwood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Aug. 17,
1925, in West Terre Haute, to Robert and Corine Davis Fields.Survivors include siblings,
Rosemary Schimmel of Terre Haute, Carol White of Terre Haute, Alan Fields and his wife
Donna of Texas, Harold Fields and his wife Joyce of Kokomo, Rex Fields and his wife
Betty, and Charles “Toby” Fields and his wife Cheryl, all of Terre Haute; and many
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert

June P. Sullivan, 88, of West Terre Haute passed away at 10:21 a.m. Saturday Feb. 23,
2008, in her residence. She retired as a registered nurse after many years of service.
She was an Army veteran of World War II, during which she served as a nurse. She was
born June 6, 1919, in Kansas, Ill., to Clyde Everett Price and Lorena Cathcart Price. She
married her husband, Roy E. “Pat” Sullivan, on May 20, 1958, in Terre Haute, and he
Jackson; two daughters, Kelley M. Cooper and her husband Donald E. Cooper of Terre
Haute, Tracy Sullivan and her husband Everett Sullivan of West Terre Haute; a son,
Terry A. Sullivan of Terre Haute; six grandchildren, Logan E. Cooper, Travis M. Cooper,
She was an Army veteran of World War II, during which she served as a nurse. She was
two great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, William M.
McDougal; one brother; and one sister. She was a member of American Legion Post 346
and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in
married her husband, Roy E. “Pat” Sullivan, on May 20, 1958, in Terre Haute, and he
Roselawn Memorial Park, with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 346. The

CLINTON — Christina Holvey, 86, of Indianapolis, formerly of Clinton, passed away early
Sunday morning, Feb. 17, 2008, in Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis. She was
born Nov. 5, 1921, in Clinton, to Pete Airola and Catherine Vigna Airola.Survivors
include her stepson, Michael and Kathleen Holvey and their family of Montezuma; a of
West Terre Haute; granddaughters, Katherine and Olivia Holvey; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max L. Holvey, who passed
away Oct. 25, 1985; a brother, Pete J. Airola; and a granddaughter, Madison Paige
Holvey.She was a homemaker who loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was
an avid sports fan.Memorial services are 11 a.m. today in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500
