Keller, Thomas H.  

Thomas "Tom" H. Keller, passed away unexpectedly at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25,
2010, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born on Dec. 20, 1956, in Terre Haute,
the son of Harold Keller and Norma (Burress) Keller. Tom was a 1976 graduate of Brazil
High School. He participated in the Special Olympics for 28 years and also the Happiness
Bag in Terre Haute. He enjoyed bowling, his favorite sport, watching the Olympics on TV
and was also a avid Colts fan. He loved flowers and gardening shows, shopping at
Goodwill and Walmart when he could.Survivors include his mother; three brothers, Joe and
Kathy Keller, Steve and Penny Keller, and Robert and Melanie Keller; four nieces, Kameko
and Rusty Bennett, and Megan, Morgan and Dakota Keller; three nephews, Ryan and
fiancée Nicole Williams, Chad and Jordan Keller; his special buddy and great-nephew,
Cameron Bennett; and a new great-niece, Brookelyn Bennett; two aunts, Ruby Bandy and
Pauline Miller; cousins, Linda Smith, Kelly Bandy, Nancy Diel, Kenny Bell, Marquita Hamm,
Peggy Kline and Cliff Burress. He was preceded in death by his father, in 2004; and his
grandparents, Emery and Flossie Keller, and Cassel and Dortha Burress.Visitation will be
Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. Services
are 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in
Roselawn Memorial Park. Tom will be very much missed by all who knew and loved him. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southern Care Terre Haute or to Happiness

Selvia, Mary R.   

Mary R. Selvia, 93, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 12:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27,
2010, in Springhill Village in Terre Haute. She formerly owned and operated several
businesses including Selvia Beverage Distributing, Horse Shoe Club Restaurant, and
Mary's Midway, all in West Terre Haute. She was born Dec. 25, 1916, in West Terre Haute,
to Moses Fortune and Lila Mason Fortune. Her husband, Luther J. "Luke" Selvia, preceded
her in death in 1971.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Diana Selvia of West Terre Haute;
three grandchildren, Lauri Fritz and her husband Chris, Greg Selvia and his wife Trudy,
and Kristen Butler and her husband Steven; four grandchildren, Creed Fritz, Christopher
Fritz, Brand Selvia, and Gabrielle Selvia; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Jordan, Hannah,
Avery, and Alyssa Butler. She also was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter,
Rae-Ann Fritz; two stepsons, Luther Selvia Jr., and Arnold Selvia; eight brothers, Homer,
Harold, Walter, Nelson, Robert, Donald, John, and Woody Fortune; and three sisters,
Alice, Doyne, and Edna.
She was a life member of the Moose Lodge in Terre Haute, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
6574 Ladies Auxiliary in West Terre Haute, and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 428 in
West Terre Haute.
There will be visitation from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220
N. Third St., in West Terre Haute. Private family burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Bovenschulte, Betty J.    

Betty J. Bovenschulte, 83, of Farmersburg, passed away at 8:41 a.m. Tuesday, March 2,
2010, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born in Burns City, on March 21, 1926, to
Mathias Ray and Stella Parrish Ray. She was a member of Blackhawk Community Church,
where she served as church organist, adult Sunday school teacher, and Women's Bible
Studies leader.  
She is survived by her husband, Donald F. Bovenschulte, whom she married Oct. 1, 1945.
She also is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, great-nieces and
great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, and a host of friends.  
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as four brothers and three sisters.  
Funeral services will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, in Terre
Haute on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Jeff Lee officiating. Burial will
be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m., in
the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the charity of
choice in her memory.
Baugh, Lorenzo S. "Pete"    

Lorenzo S. “Pete” Baugh, 85, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 11:22 a.m. Saturday,
Feb. 27, 2010, in his residence. He retired from Prox Foundry in Terre Haute, after more
than 20 years of service. He was born July 26, 1924, in Illinois, to Jacob E. Baugh and
Nettie Davis Baugh.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucille Eddy Baugh, whom he married Dec. 13,
1945, in Terre Haute; three daughters, Linda Dubois and her husband Tony of West Terre
Haute, Susan Baum Reed of Collison, Ill., and Nancy Hickman and her husband Jerry of
Paso Robles, Calif.; a son, Jimmie A. Baugh and his companion, Ginger Lovett of West
Terre Haute; two sisters, Beulah Christenberry and her husband Jack, and Evelyn Fugate;
a brother, Larry Baugh; two granddaughters, Kimberly Dubois Harrison and Leslie Hickman
Sherk (Andy); seven grandsons, Mark Baum (LaVonne), Matt Baum (Michelle), Jimmie
Baugh (Kim), Jason Baugh, Justin Baugh, Ryan Hickman (Alison), and Dan Dubois (Cindy
Andrews); 18 great-grandchildren, Anna Dubois, Celeste Harrison, Dylan Baum, Heather
Baum, Andrew Baum, Bode Baum, Michiele Baum, Jimmie Baugh, Jacob Baugh, Clayton
Baugh, Macey Baugh, Morgan Baugh, Chevelle Baugh, Evan Sherk, Avery Sherk, Trajan
Hickman, Talan Hickman, and Teague Hickman; and many nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by a granddaughter, Denise Dubois, two sisters, Anna Baugh, and Betty
Thomas; and four brothers, Joseph, Carl, Harold, and Clyde Baugh.
He was a World War II Army combat veteran, during which he served as a paratrooper with
the 101st Airborne Division. He was a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church.
Services celebrating his life will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N.
Third St., West Terre Haute, with Pastor Jerry Hickman officiating and military rites provided
by the Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and
prior to services Thursday. Private burial will be at a later date in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Dexter, Robert E.    

Robert E. Dexter, 82, of Terre Haute passed away at 11:47 p.m. Thursday evening. He was
a retired supervisor with anaconda. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was born July
8, 1927 in Lafayette, Ind. to George Dexter and Viola Dexter. His wife Mary passed away in
2006 and she was the love of his life.
He loved his little dog Sparky and he loved fishing, woodworking, gardening and his grand
babies.
He is survived by one daughter, Brenda Smith; one son, George Dexter; three
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and several nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; one brother, Gordon Dexter and one
sister, Patricia Kelley.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday in Mattox Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Herb
officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service Monday in the funeral home. Burial will
be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Bailey, Roy E.   

Roy E. Bailey, 62, of Terre Haute, passed away at 12:25 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2010,
in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born in Terre Haute, on Oct. 19, 1947, to Carl
Richard Bailey Sr. and Mary Stephens Bailey. He was employed as superintendent of
grounds for the Vigo County School Corporation and was a U.S. Army veteran. Roy loved
to cook and watch television.
He is survived by three sons, Richard Brandon Bailey and wife Susan Renee, Andrew Beau
Bailey and wife Jaime Nicole, and Ryan Eugene Bailey; and one daughter, Kara Marie
Bailey. He also is survived by three grandchildren, Brandon Nathaniel Bailey, Brooklynn
Rose Bailey and Isabella Grace Bailey; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carl Richard
Bailey Jr.; and two sisters, Mary Ann Brown and Dorothy Marie Biddle.
Funeral services will be at Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., on
Monday, March 8, 2010, at 7 p.m. Burial will follow on Tuesday in Roselawn Memorial Park
with military graveside rites by the Air Guard 181st Intelligence Wing. Visitation will be
Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
Boyce, Rose "Mary"    

Rose "Mary" Boyce, 87, of Terre Haute, was born May 9, 1922, in Fontanet, to Marion and
Zion Grindle. Mary was cared for at home by her husband, David, and daughter, Dian, with
help from her niece, Charlotte Shields and VistaCare. She had a long battle with colon
cancer, and passed away at 11:25 a.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010, at her residence with her
family present. She was a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, David B. Boyce, whom she married July 10, 1942; a
daughter, Dian M. (Boyce) Samm and her husband Bob of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Kaye
Boyce of Tennessee; grandsons, Sean Taylor and wife Becky of Indiana, Travis Medlin and
wife Sarah of Arizona, and David Boyce and wife Summer of Tennessee; granddaughters,
Kristin L. Medlin of California, and Logan Chaney of Indiana; great-grandson, Elias of
California; great-granddaughters, Gracie Rose of California, and Autumn Gail of
Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents;
a son, David M. Boyce; and sisters and brothers, Carl Mace, Manford Mace, Minnie
Anderson, Leatha Bailey, Hyla Johnson, Hilda Lemmons, Rebecca Rogers, Howard Grindle,
and Theodore Grindle.
She was a graduate of Fontanet High School, was a member of Indiana Extension
Homemakers Club for more than 20 years, and a member of Cloverland Gospel Church.
She loved to travel, and was an avid bowler with trophies. She also won numerous ribbons
for entries in the county fair and state fair.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette Ave.,
with the Rev. Bill Herb officiating. Burial is at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 5 to 8
p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be sent to VistaCare of Terre Haute.
Ennen, Skylar Reigh    

Skylar Reigh Ennen, born March 6, 2010, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital, passed away
peacefully. She is survived by her parents, Kyle and Traci Ennen; grandparents, Jamie Ann
Jenkins, the late Timothy Ray Ennen, stepgrandpa Gary Jenkins, Kenneth Tremmel Jr., and
Regina Tremmel; great-grandparents, James and Betty Hunt; two aunts and an uncle, Anna
Ennen, Tiffany and Christopher Ennen; great-aunt, Theresa Hunt; and other extended
family.
Private services were held at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home on March 9, 2010, with the Rev.
Bill Herb officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Trueblood, Eula I.    

Eula I. Trueblood, 84, of Ellettsville, and formerly of Terre Haute, passed away Friday,
March 5, 2010, at Monroe House.
Survivors include one daughter, Paula Trueblood; granddaughter, Michelle (Gill) Gaither
and her husband Cody; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Zachary Gaither, all of
Bloomington.
Eula was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Trueblood; son, Jerry Trueblood;
granddaughter, Valerie Gill; brother, Mickey Lowe; and sister, Reba Higgins.
There will be no funeral services as per Eula's request. Burial is today at Roselawn
Memorial Park, in Terre Haute.

Shilkett, Mary Lydia    

Mary Lydia Shilkett, 87, of Florida, passed away March 5, 2010, in Brookside Hospice
House in Palm Harbor, Fla. Born Oct. 22, 1922, in Terre Haute, she was the daughter of
Edward Nash and Jessie (Rowe) Nash. She married Francis Leo Shilkett, and he preceded
her in death. She was a homemaker and also a licensed practical nurse.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie L. Shilkett and wife Marilyn of Indianapolis, and Danny J.
Shilkett of Pensacola, Fla.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She also was
preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Edward, Paul and Raymond Nash.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas Funeral Home, with services at 1
p.m. Pastor Larry Matthias will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Clery, Florence K.   

Florence K. Clery, 91, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 6, 2010, with her family
by her side. She was born Sept. 6, 1918, in Belleville, Ill., to Frank and Louise Konradt. She
married George Clery in 1937, and he preceded her in death.
Florence played the mandolin and was known as the Ozark Gal. She and her husband
played in and around Terre Haute and on the radio. She was a member of the American
Legion Post 40 Auxiliary. She was an animal lover and always gave to the Humane Society
and the ASPCA.
Survivors include five daughters, Florence Orman, Esther Clery, Henrietta Whalen,
Rebekah Clery, and Theresa Orman and husband Milton; a brother, George Konradt; three
sisters-in-law, Ruby Konradt, Francis Hawkins and Rita Konradt; 12 grandchildren; 24
great-grandchildren; two-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, cousins
and friends; and a special kitty named Alan who played guitar for her. She also was
preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Smith; three granddaughters, Jeanette
Smith, Christina Smith, and Baby Orman; her siblings, Alice Konradt, Frank Konradt, Louise
Andres, Bernice Reuschel, Stanley Konradt and Marylene Cabana; a nephew, Gary Andes;
and her dog, Brownie.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at Thomas Funeral Home. Services are 9 a.m. Wednesday at
St. Benedict Catholic Church, with Father Todd Riebe officiating. Burial will follow at
Roselawn Memorial Park.
Rose, Elizabeth Ann   

Elizabeth Ann Rose, 68, of Terre Haute, passed away March 8, 2010, at Sullivan County
Community Hospital in Sullivan. Born Nov. 1, 1941, in Terre Haute, she was the daughter of
Jack Holland and Elizabeth (Kinnaman) Holland. She married Kenneth Rose, and he
preceded her in death.
Elizabeth had lived in Colorado the past few years before moving back to Terre Haute to be
near her family. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She loved raising horses and
her beloved dogs, Dusty and Charlie. She had attended Otter Creek School.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynn Orr and husband Tim of Sullivan; a sister, Loretta
Waters of Washington, N.C.; a niece, Ann Hauger and husband Perry of Terre Haute; three
grandsons; two granddaughters; seven great-grandsons; six great-granddaughters; and
other loving family and friends. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister,
Marie Kennedy; and a brother, Jack Holland.
Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N.
Clinton St. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Marvin Brown
officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Finney, Barbara J. Blocksom Newbury    

Barbara J. Blocksom Newbury Finney, 87, of Terre Haute, passed away March 7, 2010, at
Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Born Jan. 3, 1923, in Terre Haute, she was the daughter of
Willard Blocksom and Helen (Basler) Blocksom. She married Eugene D. Finney, and he
survives.
Barbara had worked for the Tribune-Star in the National Advertising Department, and then
she worked and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Anderson, where she was secretary
to the postmaster. She was a former member of Centenary Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband; and a son, John Newbury and his wife Louise of Joliet, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Virginia Lindeman; and a brother,
Richard Blocksom.
Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N.
Clinton St., with services at 2 p.m. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu
of flowers, the family request donations may be made to the American Cancer Association
or to the Diabetes Association.
Taparo, Judy Ann   

Judy Ann Taparo, 67, of Terre Haute, passed away at 1:47 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010,
at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She had been employed with several banks during her
career, including Terre Haute First National Bank, Merchants, Indiana State Bank, and Old
National Bank. She was born May 21, 1943, in Terre Haute, to James E. Surber Jr. and
Mary Shimshak Surber.
Judy was an outstanding wife, mother, and grandmother, who is survived by her husband,
Dennis Taparo, whom she married on Sept. 22, 1962, at St. Leonard's Catholic Church in
West Terre Haute; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Melissa Taparo of Franklin, Tenn.;
a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Tim Rauch of Ringgold, Ga.; her father of West
Terre Haute; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Marjorie Wiggins of West Terre
Haute, and James L. Surber and Darla Surber of Terre Haute; three grandchildren, Mary
Colleen Reuter of Ringgold, Chelsea Steen and Caleb Steen, both of Franklin. She was
preceded in death by her mother; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, August and
Antionette Taparo.
She was an active member of St. Leonard's Catholic Church, and a member of the first
graduating class from West Vigo High School. She was an avid bowler and golfer, and she
loved to travel with her family and friends.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at the church, 126 N. 8th St., in West Terre
Haute, with Father Joe Kern officiating, and her eulogy given by the Rev. Steve Moore.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at Fitzpatrick Funeral
Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with a rosary service at 7 p.m., led by Sister
Joan Slobig. Friends are welcome to join the family at the funeral home Friday morning for a
prayer service at 10:30 a.m., followed by a procession to the church. The family suggests
that, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer
Society, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Hughes, Carmen C.    

Carmen C. Hughes, 85, of Terre Haute, died at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010, in Union
Hospital. She spent her life raising her five children and taking care of her family, which she
loved very much along with loving her Lord. Carmen was born on Jan. 19, 1925, in Terre
Haute, to Pete Lowe and Margarite (George) Lowe.
She is survived by five daughters, Connie Johnson and her husband Larry of Marshall, Ill.,
Judy Stewart and her husband Jim of Terre Haute, Debbie Belfi and her husband Greg of
West Terre Haute, Sherry Hughes of Terre Haute, and Kitty Tennis and her husband Steve
of Terre Haute; a brother, Bill Lowe and wife Violet of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren,
Larry Joe Johnson and wife Michele, Troy Lee Johnson and wife Cindy, Carmen Daley and
husband Mike, Christopher Patterson and wife Amy, Pam Belfi, Mike Belfi and wife Darla,
Johnie Henderson and his companion Helen, and Chasity Church and husband Billy;
great-grandchildren, Ashley Johnson, Travis Johnson, Kaleb Johnson, Kyle Johnson and
wife Emily, Adam McGrew, Riliegh Marshall, Mike Daley, Kyleigh Mitchell, Brennon Vanatti,
Chase Vanatti, Alex Liggett, Gavin Belfi, Samantha Belfi, McKenzie Church, Megan
Henderson, and Cameron Henderson; a great-great-granddaughter, Ava Johnson; special
friend, Mildred King; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Leon Hughes, on April 14, 1990; a daughter, Diana Kay
Hughes; grandsons, Tony Leon Patterson and Chad Henderson; brother, Carl Eugene
Lowe; and a great-granddaughter, Kristen Johnson.
She loved to cook and attended Dresser Church in West Terre Haute. Carmen was loved
and is going to be sadly missed by all of her friends and family.
Visitation will be Friday, March 12, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in DeBaun Springhill
Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home
with the Rev. David Lowe officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Oliver, Jesse W.    

Jesse W. Oliver, 94, of Terre Haute, died Thursday March 11, 2010 at 7:20 a.m. in
Springhill Village. Jesse was a carpenter with the Carpenter's Union Local No. 133. He was
born March 25, 1915 in Terre Haute to Elmer A. Oliver and Lillian (Ezra) Oliver.
He is survived by five grandchildren: Lori Hoffman, William Spangler, Kevin Spangler, Lisa
Hornseth, and Lana Nolin and seven great-grandchildren.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Marguerite (McNulty) Oliver; a son:
Larry Curtis Oliver, and a daughter: Darla Jean Spangler.
He was a 1934 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School, a member of the Terre Haute Masonic
Lodge No. 19 F & AM and the Zorah Shrine where he rode with the Zorah Zips Motorcycle
Group beginning at age 60 for 10 years. He was also a member of the York Rite and a
former President of the Past Master's Association.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday March 15, 2010 in Callahan-DeBaun Funeral
Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., with the Rev. Curtis Mitchell officiating. Visitation will be from 2
until 6 p.m. Sunday March 14, 2010 with a Masonic memorial service at 5 p.m. conducted by
Terre Haute Masonic Lodge No. 19 F & AM. Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park
Chapel of Memories. The family has suggested, if friends so desire, memorial contributions
may be made to VistaCare Hospice (envelopes will be available at the funeral home).
Simmons, Judy Harris    

Judy Harris Simmons, 53, formerly of Brazil and most recently living in Clinton, succumbed to
a battle with cancer to be with our Lord on March 11, 2010 at her residence. She was born
May 3, 1956, in Indianapolis to Eugene and Maxine (Johnson) Kizzee.   
She attended Tech High School.  She had pursued many different career choices
throughout her life. Most recently, she had worked for the Shell Gas Station, in Brazil, and
with the mentally and physically challenged at Normal Life in Terre Haute. She married
Leroy Simmons on Oct. 3, 1997.
She enjoyed volunteering at the Special Needs Bible Camp. Judy was a member of Trinity
Baptist Church, in Brazil. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and working with crafts.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy Simmons of Clinton; daughters, Christina Harris York
(Jason) of Greenfield and Eugenia Harris Dixon of Clinton, Annette Simmons Walden (Jeff)
of Rosedale, Cassie Simmons Hyde (Mitch) of Greencastle, and Natasha Simmons of
Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; best friend Carol Slick of
Tennessee; mother Maxine Kizzee; two sisters, Diana Kizzee Dodrill (Terry) and Mildred
Kizzee Henry (Ray); and brother, David Fitzgerald, all of Indianapolis as well as several
nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2010 at French Funeral Home, in Brazil.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Roselawn

Sylvia M. Moats, 89, of Terre Haute, died Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Meadows Manor
North. Sylvia was a homemaker. She was born June 27, 1920, in Terre Haute, to Emory
Burger and Delta (Taggart) Burger.

She is survived by a son, John W. Moats and his wife Judy of Terre Haute; a daughter,
Debra Myrtle and her husband Ron of Terre Haute; three grandchildren, John Moats Jr. and
his wife Pam, Brandon Myrtle and Aaron Myrtle; three great-grandchildren, Katelynn Moats,
Megan Moats, and Braden Myrtle; two nephews, Dale Williams and Bob Williams; a niece,
Ann Myers; and a dear old friend, Ruth Ann Olmi. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Merle E. Moats, who died April 14, 1999; her parents; a son, Donald E. Moats; and
two granddaughters, Jill Moats and Jennifer Moats.

She was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church, a home economics club, and she loved to
cook.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park,
7500 N. Clinton St., with Pastor Gene Jeffers officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial
Park. Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Archer, Marilyn Jean    

Marilyn Jean Archer, 63, of Terre Haute, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at
Community Hospital South in Greenwood. She was born in Terre Haute, on May 10, 1946, to
Bruce Phillip Archer and Dortha Virginia McLin Archer. She was a cosmetologist, most
recently with Elder Beerman, and was a member of both St. Benedict Catholic Church and
Maryland Community Church. Other memberships include Daughters of the Nile where she
was a past queen, Order of Eastern Star Twelve Points Chapter 528, where she was a past
Worthy Matron, and Kerman Caldron—past Mighty Chosen One.
She is survived by her son, Michael Phillip Archer and wife Stacy of Danville, Ind.; her
granddaughter, Jillian Archer; her father, Bruce Phillip Archer of Terre Haute; and several
aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother.  
Funeral services will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, on
Thursday, March 18, 2010, at 1 p.m., with Father Joel Burget officiating. Burial will be in
Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the funeral
home, with both Daughters of the Nile and Order of Eastern Star services immediately prior
to the funeral. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Susan G. Komen

Lazzell, Donald E.   

Donald E. Lazzell, 82, of Terre Haute, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, in Royal Oaks
Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. He was a computer analyst for Reuben H. Donnelly.
He was born May 30, 1927, in Westville, Ill., to Clyde Lazzell and Jenny Timmerman Lazzell.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jean Tincher Lazzell; a son, Jay Lazzell and his wife,
Linda of Terre Haute; a daughter, Jill Parker and her husband, Dave of Terre Haute; seven
grandchildren, Jason Chatman, Jenny Lazzell, Chris Lazzell, Sarah Lazzell, Lindsay
Chatman, Jess Lazzell and Zachary Parker; six great-grandchildren, Blake Chatman, Maddie
Shattuck, Jayce Shattuck, Cayden Rollins, Ayden Bridwell, and Paige Terrell; and several
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carl Lazzell; and
a sister, Sharon.

Memberships include Eastside Church of Christ, past dean of The Hammond Organ Society,
past dean of the American Guild of Organists, and the Data Processing Association. Donald
served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was Mr. Indiana in 1956 for his weightlifting
skill. He was a graduate of both Loyola University and Indiana University, taught music for
25 years and was recently inducted into the Wabash Valley Musician's Hall of Fame. He will
be sadly missed by all.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010, in Callahan &
Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with Minister of the Gospel Coy Siddall and Pastor
Abe Miller officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, with military rites performed
by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Visitation is scheduled for today from 4 to 8 p.m. As
Donald was an avid animal lover, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made

Brooker, Darrell William    

Darrell William Brooker, 92, of Terre Haute, passed away at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 16,
2010, in Westridge Health Care Center. He was born in Parke County, on April 18, 1917, to
Ralph Brooker and Nellie Akers Brooker.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Holliday Brooker, on Dec. 3, 2002; his son,
Billy Joe Brooker; a grandson, Todd Brooker; a son-in-law, David Moore; and a brother,
Robert Brooker.
He is survived by three daughters, Martha Webster and husband Jack of Dallas, Ga.,
Marlene Trotzke and husband Phillip of Terre Haute, and Marylou Moore and her
companion James Timms of Terre Haute. Also surviving is one sister, Madonna Jacks of
Rockville, with whom he shared the same birth date, but six years apart, and never missed a
birthday meal together. Other survivors include his grandchildren, Cody Smith, Jana Clift,
Julie McDonald, Jonathan Moore, Jocelyn Moore, Kathy Huber, Melissa Postell, Michael
Trotzke, Jennifer Clift, Alex Clift, and Nicholas Clift; and great-grandchildren, Brooke
Fredricks, Keaton Postell, Kayla Postell, Kaylee McDonald, Gavin McDonald, Issac Moore,
and Brandon Huber; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He retired from Stran Steel in 1979, and was a member of Terre Haute Friends Church.
Funeral services will be at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, at 1 p.m.
Saturday, March 20, 2010, with the Revs. David Lowe and Joe Enyart officiating. Burial is in
Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
Carlson, Betty J.   

Betty J. Carlson, 87, of Terre Haute, died Monday, March 15, 2010, in Southwood Nursing
and Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 13, 1922, in Terre Haute, to Charles
Montague and Mary Nichols Montague. She was preceded in death by her husband, Moses
E. Carlson.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Ann Clayton and her husband Tom, Deborah
Peel and her husband Larry, and Betty Jane Carlson; four grandchildren, Thom Clayton,
Patrick Clayton, Jeff Peel, and Gary Peel; five great-grandchildren; a special nephew,
Richard Shaw; and several nieces and nephews.     
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010, in Callahan &
Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Paul Wagner officiating.  Burial will be
in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 9 to 11 a.m. on
Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the 14th and Chestnut
Community Center.
Frederick, Hobert    

Hobert Frederick, of Terre Haute, passed away in his home late Tuesday evening, March
16, 2010, with his family at his side. He was born on May 14, 1917, in Linton, to Ras and
Sarah (Wright) Frederick. Hobert worked several jobs in his lifetime including coal mining
for Saxton Coal Company, and later making furniture. He was a proud member of the 3C's.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Kenneth Ray Frederick and David
Wayne Frederick; and numerous siblings.
Survivors include one son, Larry Frederick and wife Carol of Terre Haute; many
grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010, in Roselawn Funeral Home,
7500 N. Clinton St. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Entombment will
follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Sanders, Juanita Mae    

Juanita Mae Sanders, wife of Paul "Red" Sanders, passed away at 3:15 a.m. on
Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at the Union Hospital in Terre Haute. A lifetime resident of
Terre Haute, Juanita was born to Pearl and Chester Willoughby, on Dec. 31, 1923, in Vigo
County. She was a long-time employee of Doxsee Foods.  
She was dearly loved and will be forever missed by her wonderful husband of 67 years,
Red; their son, Dr. Chester Sanders and wife Nancy of Twin Lake, Mich.; her
grandchildren, Derek Paul Sanders and wife Carli of Gainesville, Ga., and Sarah (Sanders)
Scott and husband Tyson of South Bend. Her passing also is a loss to her three sisters,
Doris Rector McChesney of Terre Haute, Lois Logue of Pennsylvania, and Margie Lovall of
Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
An open house will be on Saturday, March 20, 2010, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the couple's
home in Terre Haute for friends and family to gather to remember and honor her. Memorial
contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley. Greiner Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.
Chumley Jr., Charles Raymond    

BRAZIL — Charles Raymond Chumley Jr., 30, of Brazil, passed away on Dec. 9, 2009. He
was born Oct. 9, 1979, to Charles and Virginia Chumley. He was attending Ivy Tech
Community College, where he was working on earning his business degree.
Survivors include his parents; his wife, Jennifer Calandrilla Chumley; stepson, Zackery
Calandrilla; one brother, Michael Chumley and wife Jennifer; two nieces, Alixandrea and
Haylee Chumley; grandparents, Albert and Clara Eggers and Judy Chumley; and aunts,
uncles, and several cousins.
Charles was preceded in death by an aunt, Lisa Eggers Milner; grandfather, Bob Chumley;
and an uncle, James Chumley.
Cremation has been chosen. A private memorial service will be on Friday, March 19, 2010,
at 6 p.m. at Terre Haute First Church of the Nazarene, 801 Fort Harrison Road, with Pastor
Mark Fleschner officiating. His final resting place will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu
of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at First Financial Bank. The family would
like to thank everyone for all of their prayers, thoughts, and support during this difficult

McKeehan, Sharon L.    

Sharon L. McKeehan, 72, of West Terre Haute, passed away early Saturday morning,
March 20, 2010, at Union Hospital. She was born in West Terre Haute, on Aug. 31, 1937,
to George and Mildred (Downing) Pierce. Sharon worked for more than 15 years as a
janitor in the school corporation She was a very active food pantry volunteer for the Sisters
of Providence. She enjoyed gardening and going fishing with her husband. Sharon was
preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Roger Michael; and an infant sister.
She is survived by her husband, Bill McKeehan of West Terre Haute; children, Stephen
Michael and wife Shirley of Kansas, Cheryl Seeling and husband Michael of Seelyville,
Kevin Michael and wife Kathleen of Kansas, Teresa Atkinson and husband David of Terre
Haute, Billy Michael of Terre Haute, Tammy Bunch and husband Frank of Kansas, Tommi
Britt and husband Edward of Terre Haute, Myra Pine and husband Adrian of Clinton, Lisa
McKeehan, Billy McKeehan Jr., both of Terre Haute, and Peggy Coan and husband
Herman of Greencastle. Also surviving are 30 grandchildren, one of which is a special
granddaughter, Stephanie Stephens, 34 great-grandchildren; siblings, Delores Pennell,
Mary Pennell and husband Howard, Ermadine Comstock, Helen Wycoff and husband Bob,
and Phillip Pierce; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N.
Clinton St.. Services will be on Wednesday at 1 p.m., in the funeral home, with Pastor Gene

Kuykendall, Doris M.   

Doris M. Kuykendall, 100, of Terre Haute, passed away shortly after noon on Saturday,
March 20, 2010, in her apartment at the Wyndmoor Senior Living Center. Doris was born
Sept. 1, 1909, in Clark County, Ill., to Emma and Charles Schwartz. She graduated from
Kansas High School in Kansas, Ill., and from Browns Business College in Terre Haute. She
worked as a bookkeeper, helped with a family business, and in later years was employed
by the local credit bureau, but when raising her children she was mostly a homemaker.
Doris was a current member of Memorial United Methodist Church, and had been a
member and very active in the former Montrose Methodist Church, and later at Staunton
United Methodist Church, when she and her husband lived near Staunton. In addition to
church work, Doris also was active in the former Alma Rebekah Lodge, and various
community organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, A. Russell Kuykendall; and her
brother, Harry Schwartz.
Survivors include one daughter, Julia Rowe and her husband Gary of Fort Wayne; one
son, John and wife Connie of Terre Haute; three granddaughters, Gretchen (Jeff) Engel,
Heidi (Troy) Charters, and Heather Rowe; and four great-grandchildren, Elaina and Kuy
Charters, and Zane and Zoe Engel. She also is survived by nephews, James Newell, Max
Kuykendall, and Hugh Schwartz; and a niece, Marjorie Moss.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010, at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E.
Springhill Drive, with Dr. William Coker officiating. Graveside services will follow at
Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today, and before services Thursday.
Dennis R. Drinkard   

Dennis R. Drinkard, age 62, of Terre Haute passed away late Sunday evening, March 21,
2010, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born on June 19, 1947 in Louisville,
Kentucky to William Wayne and Lois Wanda (Pierce) Drinkard.
Dennis was a United States Army National Guard veteran. He worked as a route driver for
Todd Uniforms for many years, and later worked on vending machines for a local Terre
Haute company. Dennis loved fishing, NASCAR, football, and he really enjoyed being able
to shoot his riffle.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife Billie Ann (James) Drinkard whom he married on March 2,
1974, children, Ronald Quintaine of Terre Haute, William Drinkard and wife Esha of
Virginia, Tammy Tanner and husband Jim of Georgia, and Cheryl Chesser of Kentucky.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Ashley and Amber Quintaine,  Taylor, Katie, Little Bill
and Mckenzie Drinkard; siblings, Nancy Hayes and husband Charles of Sullivan, Edward
Drinkard and wife Pam of Indianapolis, twin brother, Donald Drinkard and wife Brenda of
West Virginia, and Rebecca Smith and husband Ronald of Terre Haute and many nieces
and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12pm-1pm in Roselawn Funeral Home. Services
will be Wednesday at 3pm in the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Roselawn
Memorial Park. VFW Post 972 will be preforming military graveside honors.
Dennis, Peggy L.   

ROSEDALE — Peggy L. Dennis, 78, of Rosedale, passed away early Tuesday morning,
March 23, 2010, at Meadows Manor North Rehabilitation Center. Born June 12, 1931, in
Vigo County, she was the daughter of Ernest Parker and Fannie Mae (Cottrell) Parker.
Peggy had worked as secretary for the Vigo County Courthouse, the Vigo County Home,
Hercules and for Dr. Burkle. She also had worked at Indiana State University in the School
of Education Department, and in sales at Steinmart and Meis. She was a 50-year member
of Order of Eastern Star and also Daughters of the Nile. Her hobbies include reading,
especially cookbooks.
Survivors include three sons, Gary Dennis and wife Cindy of Duluth, Ga., Roy Dennis and
wife Nancy of Atlanta, and Bill Dennis and wife Donna of Rosedale; former husband and
close friend, Jay W. Dennis of Rosedale; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Claude Parker; and two
sisters, Mary Howard and Florence Paige.
Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton
St. Services are at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, with Pastor Ray Leach officiating.
Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Howell, Lowell    

SPENCER — Lowell Howell, of Spencer, passed away March 22, 2010, at Owen Valley
Health Campus in Spencer. Born July 4, 1919, near Harold, Ky., he was the third son born
to Mary Ann Justice Howell and Lee Howell. He grew up in the country on a small farm in
Eastern Kentucky near Pikeville, Ky. His mother died when he was 10 years old and left
eight children. As a young adult he worked in a coal mine at Martin, Ky., and at age 22 he
was called into the U.S. Army to serve on March 16, 1942. He was discharged from the
Army at Fitzsimmons General Hospital on June 16, 1947. While in the Army he met Edith E.
Lawrence, an Army nurse.  They were engaged Jan. 29, 1947, and after they were both
discharged from the service they were marred on Oct. 29, 1947. They had one daughter,
Anna Lee, born Dec. 3, 1949, at Methodist Hospital in Pikeville, Ky. In 1952 they moved to
Hammond, Ind. to get work. After several odd jobs he worked in a steel mill, Youngstown
Sheet & Tabe in East Chicago, Ind., for 14 years. He was a member of Hessville Baptist
Church in Hammond, where he was saved on Dec. 13, 1953, and baptized on Jan. 10,
1954. He left Hammond in 1969 because of Edith's health and settled in Parke County.
They moved to Rosedale in 1971. While living in Rosedale he was a member of Lyford
Bible Church in Lyford. After Edith passed away in 2003 he moved to Indianapolis and
lived with his daughter, Anna Dowling. After five years in Indianapolis, they all moved to
Freedom, where he was living at the time of his death. He had six siblings, and all
preceded him in death: John Howell, Clifton Howell, June Stevens, Jewell Smallwood,
Charles D. Howell and Anna Mae Wade.  
Survivors include one daughter, Anna Dowling and husband William P.; three
grandchildren, Amy Tackitt, Julie Thorpe and husband Jeff, and Joseph Macinkus; four
great-grandchildren, Scott Tackitt, Amber Tackitt, Katelyn Tackitt, and Logan Thorpe. Also
surviving is one brother, Hobert Howell of Hammond.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 26, 2010, in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton
St., in Terre Haute, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Services will be on Friday, in the funeral home,
at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Farrell, Robert C.    

Robert C. Farrell, 70, of Terre Haute, passed away March 23, 2010, in his residence with
his family. Born April 12, 1939, in Bridgeport, Conn., he was the son of Robert Farrell and
Marjorie (Gregory) Farrell. Robert had worked as a volunteer firefighter for the Otter Creek
Fire Department for many years. He was a member of the Murdock Racing Club and a
NASCAR fan. He married Connie Payne, and she preceded him in death.
Survivors includes five children, Shannon Nees and husband John, Bob Farrell and wife
Melissa, all of Terre Haute, Stephanie Horsley and husband Tony of Carbon, Christine
Farrell and Mark Farrell, both of Connecticut; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Eileen,
Peggy and Patty, all of Connecticut; two brothers, Greg and Joey, both of Connecticut; and
several nieces, nephews and cousins. He also was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be on Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N.
Clinton St. Services are at 1 p.m., in the funeral home, with the Rev. Larry Scott officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Hollingsworth, Emery O.   

HILLSDALE — Emery O. Hollingsworth, 99, of rural Hillsdale, died at 9 p.m. EST Monday,
March 22, 2010, at the Vermillion Convalescent Center and Rehabilitation  Center in
Clinton, where he had been a resident having experience a stroke in 2003. He anticipated
his 100th birthday anniversary, but fell short of it by 27 days. He was a lifelong farmer and
resident of Vermillion County and worked at such up until his illness at the age of 93. Born
April 18, 1910, on the family farm, which land is now part of the Newport Chemical Depot, in
Newport, to Oscar E. Hollingsworth and Gladys Brown Hollingsworth.
He attended Newport School and began farming with his father. He was a member of
Memorial Chapel Methodist Church. He served on numerous civic boards and business
endeavors within the county and was recently honored for his long term as president of
Hillsdale Water Corporation. He also was a school bus driver for the Newport School and
through the years was so touched by his former student riders who remembered him in
their school day trips.
On April 18, 1935, in Dana, and on his 25th birthday, he married Ruth Seely, who
preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 1994. Being the oldest of 11 children, he was preceded
in death by brothers, Clyde Hollingsworth, Stanley Hollingsworth, Hubert Hollingsworth,
Maynard Hollingsworth, Howard Hollingsworth and Donald Hollingsworth; and a sister,
Lucille Hollingsworth Lee.
Survivors include two sons, Max O. Hollingsworth and Roy (Donna) Hollingsworth; and
grandson, AnDrew Hollingsworth, all of Hillsdale. Also surviving are siblings: sister Doyne
Dwiggins of Danville, Ill., and brothers Marion Hollingsworth of Danville and Paul (Janet)
Hollingsworth of Newport; as well as a cherished childhood friend, Mary Jo Harvey Hegarty
of Bloomington, Ind.
Services are 10 a.m. EDT Friday at DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home, in Cayuga, with the
Rev. Jon Overby officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Visitation
is 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Brown, Max
Hendrix, Wilbur Hall, Ray Martin, Raymond Parks, John Roehm and Harvey Hegarty.

Daugherty, Shirley A.   

Shirley A. Daugherty, 71, of Terre Haute, passed away early Wednesday morning, March
24, 2010, in Union Hospital. Born on March 9, 1939, in Rockville, the daughter of Ed
Decker and Lucille (Sower) Decker. She married Harold E. Daugherty Jr. on Aug. 21, 1954,
and he survives. Shirley was a cook for Union Hospital. She enjoyed fishing and was a very
loving mother.
Survivors include her husband; six children, Debra Fellows and husband Lester of Mecca,
Barbara Swaim and husband Gerry of Kingman, Pamela Atkinson and husband Jeff of
Montezuma, Shirley Thomas and Terry Cundiff and Vicki Stites and Don Stites, all of
Mecca, and Michael Daugherty and wife Angie of Veedersburg; 15 grandchildren; 23
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Ed Decker Jr. and wife
Janice of Rockville, Charles Decker of Clinton, and Danny "Joe" Decker and wife Janet of
Casey, Ill.; two sisters, Rosalie Wolfe and husband William of Clinton, and Patty Cawthon of
Kingman; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Connie Sue Daugherty.

West, Donald "Bob"    

Donald "Bob" West, 78, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at 5:50
p.m. in Springhill Village. Bob was bell captain at the Terre Haute House. He was born on
Nov. 2, 1931, in Terre Haute, to Claude West and Fannie (Richie) West.
Survivors include his sister, Mary K. Kraemer and her fiancé Larry King of Terre Haute;
and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in
death by four brothers, Frank, Albert, Clyde, and Claude West; and his parents.
Bob was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a lifemember of the Lawton-Byrum
Post 972 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 27, 2010, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at DeBaun Springhill
Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial
will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial
contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley. Envelopes will be available in
the funeral home.
McKenzie, Dollie L.   

Dollie L. McKenzie, 76, of Terre Haute, died Thursday, March 25, 2010, in Southwood
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Nov. 24, 1933, in Terre Haute, to
Walter and Blanche Robbins Ellinger. She was a cook at Wallace Nursing Home until
retiring. She loved having her grandkids around her and playing bingo.
Survivors include her son, Thomas Lawrence and wife Mary of Terre Haute; daughter,
Kathy Barker and husband Jerry of Anderson; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;
a brother, Henry Ellinger; sisters, Dorothy Hamilton and Wilma Lawrence; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Dollie was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Thomas Lawrence, in
1969; her second husband, Leo McKenzie, in 1991; special friend, Chuck Greenwell; a
son, Gary Lawrence, in 1975; five brothers, William, Jack, Walter, George, and Charles
Ellinger; and four sisters, Betty Ellinger, Franchon Hoopingarner, Alberta Jones, and Alpha
Mitchell.
Visitation will be today, March 26, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m. at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85
E. Springhill Drive. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Mark
Mundell officiating. Burial will take place in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Rollings, Robert Earl    

Robert Earl Rollings, 87, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010, in Union
Hospital. He was born to Lyal and Julie Morley Rollings on April 6, 1922. He was a retired
iron worker for Local 439 and retired field superintendent for Rust Engineering with more
than 18 years' experience in construction of heavy industrial plants and associated
facilities, such as Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Newport.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Monzell Catherine Thomas Rollings, originally from
Linton; and one daughter, Martha Toth and her husband Charlie of Terre Haute. He will be
greatly missed by his five grandchildren, Julia Slaughter, Lisa White, Phillip Pinegar, Chuck
and Neil Toth; seven great-grandchildren, Bailey Ann and Harrison Slaughter, Jack
Pinegar and Josie White, Meagan and Austin Pinegar and Bellamy Toth; one sister,
Audrey Misner and her husband Max of Fort Myers Fla., and their children and families,
Susan, Kenneth, Scott and other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a
daughter, Sally Ann, in 1985.
He was first sergeant in Company A, 337th Combat Engineers during World War II, having
served in both the European and Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was a past master of the
Scottish Rite, Masonic Temple, Elks and American Legion.
Memorial services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005
N. 13th St., with the Rev. Mark Grayless officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tuesday, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 972 will be conducting military graveside services.
King, Rosemary Irene Whitsit    

Rosemary Irene Whitsit King, 75, of Terre Haute, passed away at Union Hospital on March
28, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer. Rosie was born Oct. 10, 1934, in Terre Haute, to
Jesse Whitsit Sr. and Mary Wrightsman Whitsit. She married the love of her life, Richard
(Dick) King, on Feb. 7, 1952.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Jr.; a daughter, Vicki Atkinson; two brothers,
Bob Whitsit and Jesse Whitsit Jr.; and one sister, Betty Meeks.
Rosie is survived by her husband Dick; her daughter, Cindy Decker and husband Jim of
Terre Haute; son-in-law, Jay Atkinson of Terre Haute; grandson, Dicky Jay Atkinson and
his wife Shelly of McCordsville; three granddaughters, Tammy Atkinson of Terre Haute,
Angie Lively and husband Sam of Greenwood, and Nicole Slaughter of West Terre Haute;
four great-grandsons, Dalton, Hunter, Parker, and Cooper Atkinson; and four
great-granddaughters, Kali Price, Madison and Olivia Slaughter, and Sophia Baumunk; as
well as several nieces and nephews.
Rosie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be dearly
missed by all. She was a homemaker and sold home crafts at the Covered Bridge Festival
for many years. She was an excellent seamstress, good cook, loved to play slot machines,
and an all around lovable and warmhearted person. She will be remembered always for
her loving care and her laughter.
Visitation is today from 4 to 8 p.m., in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, in the funeral home, with Pastor Merrillyn Smith
officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be
made to the Hospice of the Wabash Valley or the charity of your choice.
Shahadey, Helen    

Helen Shahadey, 90, of Terre Haute, passed away Monday, March 29, 2010, in Davis
Gardens Health Center, after several months in declining health. Until 2004, she worked at
Shahadey's Food Market, originally opened by her father in 1922. She was born Dec. 20,
1919, in Terre Haute, to Farris Shahadey and Mary Joe Shahadey.  
Survivors include two sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by her parents; three brothers, Frank Shahadey, Charles Shahadey, and Mike
Shahadey; and five sisters, Eva Shahadey, Corrine Mareena, Rose Farah, Marie
Shahadey, and Louise Shahadey. Helen was the last surviving child of Farris and Mary
Joe.
She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School. Following her education, she chose to devote
her life to the success of Shahadey's Food Market, working closely alongside her parents
and siblings; she managed the meat and dairy departments. In the decades following her
parents' deaths, she worked diligently alongside her brother, Mike, Mike's wife, Beverly,
and sisters, Louise and Marie. Helen found great comfort and enjoyment in working with
her family by day, before socializing with them every evening once the last customer was
served. Despite a stroke which caused mobility issues, Helen continued to live her life as
she had always done prior to the stroke, heading to the grocery store every morning with
Louise and Marie, rain or shine. The family business her "Pop" (as she referred to her
father) started was extremely important to Helen, as was the concept of tradition. She was
a very gifted cook – a skill she learned from her mother – and enjoyed preparing meals for
her large family. Moreover, Helen's family looked forward to her kibby, a dish for which she
was well-known. She enjoyed playing the piano at family gatherings, especially birthdays.
Helen was a member of St. George Orthodox Church.
Visitation is 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St.,
services will follow with the Rev. Father David Moretti and Rev. Deacon Elias Corey
officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to St.
George Orthodox Church in her memory.
