James E. McKinney Jr.
James E. McKinney Jr., 62, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 12:21 a.m. Friday, May
28, 2010, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He retired as a conductor from CSX Railroad
after 39 years of service. He also had served as a deputy sheriff with the Vigo County
Sheriff’s Department for four years. He was born on Nov. 15, 1947, in Terre Haute, to
James E. McKinney Sr. and Hazel H. Hughes McKinney.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Ruth E. McKinney; two daughters, Lesa Jo Evans
and her husband Duane of Crawfordsville, Fla., and Tracy Lynn Walling and her husband
Kenneth of West Terre Haute; his mother, Hazel H. McKinney of West Terre Haute; two
brothers, Dan McKinney of West Terre Haute and Tom McKinney Sr. and his wife Janet of
St. Mary-of-the-Woods; four grandchildren; one nephew; three great-nephews; and one
great-niece. He was preceded in death by his father.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a
member of the Voiture 40&8 Club in Terre Haute; a lifetime member of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 6574 in West Terre Haute; the American Legion Post 104 in Terre
Haute; and the United Transportation Union.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010, in St. Leonard’s Catholic
Church, N. 8th St., in West Terre Haute, with Father Bernard Head officiating. Burial will be
in Roselawn Memorial Park with military graveside rites provided by the Marine Corps
League in Terre Haute. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home,
220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, and prior services Tuesday in the funeral home.
Friends and family are welcome to gather at the funeral home Tuesday morning for a
prayer service at 10:30 a.m. and precession to the church.

Michael J. “Mick” Williams
Michael J. “Mick” Williams, 63, of Clinton, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2010, in his
residence. He was born in Vigo County, on Aug. 24, 1946, to Harlan Williams and
Marguerite Wells Williams. He was a retired maintenance supervisor with Cinergy, and a
member of the Isaac Walton League.
He is survived by his wife, Dianna Chickadaunce Williams, and was a devoted father to Jay
Chickadaunce. He also is survived by one sister, Suzanne Johnson; nieces and nephews,
Brian Loveless, Brandon Loveless, Betsy Loveless, Harlan Williams, and Patty Williams;
and also was an uncle to Jack Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; one
brother, Don Williams; and one sister, Marilyn Williams.
Funeral services will be held in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, June 2, 2010, with the Rev. David Deal officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn
Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the funeral
home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to United Cerebral Palsy,
Happiness Bag, or the Terre Haute Humane Society, in his memory.

Mose Kassis
TERRE HAUTE — Mose Kassis, 84, died Sunday, May 30, 2010, at Union Hospital, around
5 p.m. He was born Jan. 27, 1926, in Terre Haute, to William and Latifee Kassis. He was
preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles and George Kassis of Terre Haute;
and nephew, John Kassis.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Rosemary Tanoos Kassis; nephews, William Kassis
of Georgia, Zack Kassis and wife Denise, Kevin Kassis, Jimmy Tanoos and wife Tricia
(children, Michael and Lucia), Paul Tanoos; nieces, Sophia Davis and husband Donny,
and Lindsey Tanoos; sister-in-law, Rosemary Mareena Kassis; brother-in-law, Joseph
Tanoos and wife Linda; great-nephews, Cory Kassis, Andrew and Lucas Davis.
Mose was a 1944 graduate of Wiley High School where he worked for the Republican
Party at age 22, until he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from 1950 to 1952. He
was a member of many organizations, including Scottish Rite (32nd degree), Zorah Shrine
Oriental Band (20 years), Humboldt Lodge 42 Free & Accepted Masons, Royal Jester’s
Court 45, American Legion Post 40, Hulman Regional Airport Board (30 years), Sheriff
Merit Board (president three years), and a member of St. George Orthodox Church of
Terre Haute, where he served as treasurer for five years. In case you didn’t know, Mose
was a devoted Republican and was deemed “Mr. Republican” by his party. From 1968 to
1972, he was the administrative assistant to the last Republican mayor, Leland Larrison.
He also served as Republican precinct committee ward chairman, and served 20 times at
the Republican State Convention. He also served as secretary of the Republican county
board, and a member of the Indiana State Police Building Commission under Gov. Otis
Bowen. He was twice the delegate to the National Republican Party to nominate President
Ronald Reagan, and also chairman of the Republican committee for Nixon and Reagan.
Mose was an avid fundraiser and served on many Republican finance committees. He was
passionate about politics and had personally met five U.S. presidents! He will always be
remembered and loved by everyone who knew him, and he had many, many friends. He
will be missed dearly.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash
Ave., with Masonic memorial services at 7 p.m., conducted by Humboldt Lodge 42, and the
Trisagion Prayer at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at
St. George Orthodox Church with funeral services starting at 11:30 a.m., with Father David
Moretti, Father Basil Shaheen, and Deacon Elias Corey officiating. Burial will be in
Roselawn Memorial Park, with military honors provided by Lawton-Byrum Post 972
Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorial contributions can be made to St. George Orthodox
Church.

Geneva J. Welch
TERRE HAUTE — Geneva J. Welch, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away in her home early
on May 31, 2010. She was born Jan. 11, 1928, in Greencastle, to Harvey and Katherine
Stone. She worked as a seamstress in earlier years. She was a member of Barbour
Avenue United Methodist Church. Geneva loved to read.
She is survived by her two daughters, Donna Morrison and Bernadine Henry of Terre
Haute; grandchildren, Kathy Rainbolt and husband Dave, Crystal Gustafson, Cynthia
Phelps, Kelly Gustafson, Alonzo Suggs, and Robyn Phelps; 14 great-grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Wilma Hamm of Sanford. She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Forrest Welch; and many siblings.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. Services are
11 a.m. Thursday, in the funeral home, with Pastor Kathy Roush officiating. Burial will be in
Roselawn Memorial Park.

Veura L. Konazeski
TERRE HAUTE — Veura L. Konazeski, 58, of West Terre Haute, passed away in her
residence. Born Dec. 1, 1951, in Terre Haute, she was the daughter of Bruno J. Konazeski
and Betty I. (Elmore) Konazeski.
Veura had worked in healthcare at the former Harborside Nursing Home and also had
several waitress jobs. She was a member of the First Nazarene Church and was close to
the Word of God. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a
pet lover, especially dogs.
Survivors include her mother; three children, Kimberly Paradiso and husband Troy of
Pueblo, Colo., Tommy John Aleshire and Jesse Morgan Aleshire, both of Terre Haute; 10
grandchildren; a brother, John W. Konazeski and wife Raina of Terre Haute; one nephew;
two nieces; an aunt, Donna Leetz of Terre Haute; three uncles; and a favorite dog, Chewy.
She was preceded in death by her father; three uncles; two grandmas and two grandpas.
Visitation will be on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N.
Clinton St. Services are at 2 p.m. with Pastor Mark Fleschner officiating. Burial will follow in
Roselawn Memorial Park.

Charles William Pearce Jr.
TERRE HAUTE — Charles William Pearce Jr., 94, of Terre Haute, died Monday, May 31,
2010, in Union Hospital. He was born Jan. 11, 1916, in Bedford, Ind., to Charles William
Pearce Sr. and Jessie Voyles Pearce.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby L. Pearce; one daughter, Jessica Melinda Rucksthul; one
son, William Alex Pearce; two grandsons, Alexander Roy Pearce and Charles David
Pearce, his wife Jennifer and his son Patrick Alden; two stepsons, Michael Russell and his
children, Brandon and Lindsey, and Jon Russell, his wife Anita and their children, Austin
and Madison; one sister-in-law, Ruth Crawly and her husband Richard; and two brothers-in-
law, Edward Weber and Charles Weber; one niece and her family; two nephews and their
families. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, of 591⁄2 years, Marcella M.
Pearce; his brother, Dr. Roy V. Pearce and his wife Hannahlee Pearce; a son-in-law,
Richard H. Ruckstuhl; a stepson, Brett E. Russell; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Weber
Deakens and her husband Herbert “Bubba” Deakens.
He graduated from Wiley High School in 1934, attended Purdue University and graduated
from Curtis Wright Tech in Aeronautical Engineering in 1942. Charles became an Eagle
Scout in 1932. He was employed by Bell Aircraft, North American Aviation, now Boeing
North American, Fairchild Hiller, and LTV Corp. now Lockheed Martin at NASA Langley Air
Research Center. Charles retired from Boeing North American after 23 years of service
and from Lockheed Martin after 10 years of service. Charles was an ordained deacon of
Fairmore Presbyterian Church in Columbus, Ohio, and an ordained elder of Westminster
Presbyterian Church in Terre Haute. He was a 65-year member of Bexly Masonic Lodge
704, now Sunrise Lodge 783, and an honorary member of West Terre Haute Lodge 687, a
51-year member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, and a member of Memorial
United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m.. Saturday, June 5, 2010, in Callahan &
Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street, with the Rev. Scott Johnson officiating.
Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation is
scheduled prior to services from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday. The family requests no flowers.

Frederick E. ‘Fritz’ Kraly Sr.
TERRE HAUTE — Frederick E. “Fritz” Kraly Sr., 91, of Terre Haute, died Tuesday morning,
June 1, 2010, at Cobblestone Crossings. He was a National Advertising Manager for the
Terre Haute Tribune-Star Newspaper before his retirement in 1982. He was born March 3,
1919, in Whiting, Ind., to Ferdinand Kraly and Frances Stepich Kraly. His wife, Betty Ann
Kraly, preceded him in death in 2004.
Survivors include his two sons, Ted H. Kraly and his wife, Judy of Terre Haute and
Frederick E. “Fritz” Kraly Jr. of Mexico; two granddaughters, Jana Kraly Walker and her
husband Matthew, and Mallory Anne Kraly; two great-granddaughters, Kraly Maxine
Walker and Hudson Virginia Walker; and many nieces and nephews. He also was
preceded in death by his parents; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Fritz was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School in Whiting, and a 1942 graduate
of Indiana State Teachers College, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Industrial
Arts and was a member of the basketball team. Soon after graduating from college, he
served with the U.S. Army during World War II attaining the rank of Captain. He was a
former Cub Scout Master, had coached youth basketball for Centenary United Methodist
Church and was a member of Elks Lodge 86. Fritz loved making miniature furniture and
personalized birthday cards for his family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m.. Friday, June 4, 2010 in Callahan & Hughes
Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with the Reverend Scott Johnson officiating. Burial
will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for today from 6 to 8 p.m. The

Margaret Ellen Stewart
SHEPARDSVILLE — Margaret Ellen Stewart, 91, of Shepardsville, passed away on
Thursday, June 3, 2010. She was born in Linton, to Andrew and Anne Haffley Williams, on
April 13, 1919. Her husband, Kenneth, died March 2, 1983.
Survivors include a son, Robert Stewart (Norma) of West Terre Haute; a daughter,
Chadwena Bartlett (Bob) of Shepardsville; two sisters, Lovell Weir (Tommy) of Indianapolis
and Patricia Hendricks (Gene) of West Terre Haute; and a beloved sister-in-law, Lola
Williams. She was proud of her 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-
great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews. She also
was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles A. Williams and Bernard Williams; and
several other family members and friends.
Margaret was a homemaker and a retired surgical technician from Terre Haute Regional
Hospital. She trained at St. Anthony’s Hospital and graduated from the Chicago School of
Practical Nursing. Following her retirement, she was employed with Home Health Care as a
sitter for patients in Union Hospital and later sat with terminally ill patients in their homes.
She was a member of Trinity Church, Morris Chapter 86 Order of the Eastern Star, Past
Matron Club of New Goshen, and the Shepardsville Booster Club.
Visitation is 11 a.m. until services today. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. today at Frist
Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., in Clinton, with Pastor James Haught officiating. Burial is
in Roselawn Cemetery.

John Richard Bickel Jr.
TERRE HAUTE — John Richard Bickel Jr., 84, of Terre Haute, passed away at 9:50 p.m.
Thursday, June 3, 2010, in Southwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. John was born
June 6, 1925, in Terre Haute, to John Richard Bickel Sr. and Ruth Pearl Thompson Bickel.
John was employed by the United States Post Office as a mailman for 31 years. He had
also worked for Kroger as a butcher and Life of Virginia Insurance Company. John was an
U.S. Navy Seaman 1st Class on the USS Mansfield from the time of the ship’s commission
until the end of World War II.
John was a graduate of Wiley High School and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars
972. He had great interest in gun collecting and enjoyed attending gun shows as well as
traveling to London, England. John also enjoyed bird watching and smoking his pipe. He
was a former licensed pilot and an avid photographer.
John was preceded in death by his son, Gary Allen Bickel. John is survived by his wife,
Georgia Slusser Bickel, whom he married on Oct. 28, 1948; three sons, John Richard
Bickel III, James R. Bickel and Stephen A. Bickel, all of Terre Haute; three daughters,
Marilyn Ruth Cross and her husband John of Metairie, La., and Carol A. Bickel and Beverly
S. Hamilton, both of Terre Haute; five grandchildren, Raphael Russell of River Ridge, La.,
Pete Damien Russell and his wife Jennifer of Neosho, Mo., Nicholas A. Russell and his wife
Stacey of Covington, La., and Frank A. Garvey Jr. and Christopher A. Garvey, both of
Terre Haute; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North
13th Street, with visitation from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2010. Pastor Dan
Romanack will be officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with military
graveside services conducted by VFW 972.

Mary Rose Coffman
MARSHALL, Ill. — Mary Rose Coffman, 62, of Marshall, passed away Thursday, June 3,
2010, in her residence. Born Sept. 26, 1947, in Terre Haute, she was the daughter of
Charles Herman Parsons and Mary Alice (Jones) Parsons. She married Tim Coffman and
he survives.
Mary had worked at Sony, TRW and also at Chesty Foods. Her hobbies included spending
time with her family and friends, flowers, yard work, dancing, music, and going to the
beach, particularly Florida.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Carol Rice and husband Roy of Marshall,
and Misty Blocker of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Ashley Lindley and husband Jeff of
Terre Haute, Ryan Rice of Avon, Ind., Cody Day of Casey, Ill., Cole Rice of Marshall, and
Wesley Blocker of Texas; one great-grandchild, Carsyn Laine Day of Casey; a sister,
Barbara Jones of Terre Haute; two nephews, Anthony and Raymond Jones, both of Terre
Haute; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and her faithful dog, Fifi. She was preceded in
death by her parents.
Services are Tuesday at 10 a.m. EDT at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., in
Terre Haute, with Pastor Mark Tobey officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial
Park. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. EDT, in the funeral home

Betty Jean Chubb
CLINTON — Betty Jean Chubb, 86, of Clinton, passed away at 11:20 p.m. Thursday, June
3, 2010, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born March 8, 1924, in Fontanet,
the daughter of Vern Hoke and Sylvia Kyle Hoke. She was an operator for Columbia
Records before her retirement. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Clinton,
the Red Hat Club, member and past worthy matron of Jerusalem Chapter 254 Order of
Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis Chubb, on Nov. 21, 2001;
brothers, Roy, Jim and Emerson Hoke. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law,
Donna and Gary Thomas of Clinton; grandchildren, Trace (Marcia) Thomas, Jeannie
Shelton, and Jennifer (Jeff) Davis; great-grandchildren, Jordan Shelton and Alexander
Davis; sister, Marjorie Niece; brothers, Don Hoke, Charlie Hoke, Tom Hoke, and Bob Hoke;
and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., in
Clinton, with Pastor Danny Caulkins officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park
in Terre Haute. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers,

Donald Edward Inman Sr.
TERRE HAUTE — Donald Edward Inman Sr., age 81, of Terre Haute, went to be with the
Lord, on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Union Hospital. He was born July 8, 1928, to Ralph
and Ethel (Miller) Inman, in Clay City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores;
daughter, Rita May; sister, Lois Corder; and stepson, Tommy Nance.
Survivors include son, Donald Inman Jr. of Montana; sister, Mary Inman of California;
brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Jean Inman of Port Orange, Fla.; brother-in-law, Dick
Judd of Terre Haute; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Don graduated from Otter Creek High School in 1947. He was a U.S. Army veteran, who
served during the Korean War. After 36 years of employment, Don retired from Bemis Bag
in 1994, where he had been president of the Local 1426 A.C.T.W.U., for 15 years. He was
commander of the Rosedale American Legion for 10 years.
He enjoyed spending time outside, and always had a large vegetable garden so he could
share with his family and friends. He would also spend hours watching the birds and
squirrels as they enjoyed the feeders he kept full for them.
Don had a very special place in his heart for the precious children who were fighting for
their lives at St. Jude Children's Hospital. He kept photo boards full of their pictures, which
is why the family suggests that donations in Don's honor be made to St. Jude Children’s
Hospital.
Visitation celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., at Roselawn Funeral
Home. Graveside military services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Roselawn
Memorial Park, with the Rosedale American Legion performing the services.

Lawrence Joseph Fischer
TERRE HAUTE — Lawrence Joseph Fischer, 74, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday,
June 3, 2010, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born May 9, 1936, in St. Meinrad,
to Raymond Fischer and Catherine (Schneider) Fischer. Lawrence worked for M.A.B.
Paint for 31 years, retiring as advertising manager.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sue (Rebel) Fischer, whom he married Dec. 26, 1964;
a son, Rob Fischer of Terre Haute; a daughter, Sharon Burgess of Cross Junction, Va.; a
grandson, Evan Fischer of Terre Haute; a sister, Sandy Morthland of Terre Haute; and a
brother, Dick Fischer of Dayton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Lawrence served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1958 to 1963.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 9, 2010, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., in DeBaun Springhill
Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with funeral services at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Roselawn
Memorial Park. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made to the American Cancer Society in Lawrence’s honor, envelopes will be available at
the funeral home.

Ruth Marie Harkness Greenleaf
TERRE HAUTE — Ruth Marie Harkness Greenleaf was born Sept. 4, 1924, in Terre
Haute, to Howard and Jessie Harkness. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her
brother, Forest; sister, Thelma Link; a daughter, Nancy; grandson, Marc; and her husband
Marcus. Ruth passed from this life into her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 2, 2010,
at Memorial Herman Southeast in Houston.
Ruth leaves behind a son and daughter-in-law, Marcus “Skip” and Linda Greenleaf of The
Villages, Fla.; her two daughters and son-in-law, Susan and Bobby Dennard of Bayou
Vista, Texas and Marcia Greenleaf of Houston; grandchildren, Leah Greenleaf of
Belleview, Fla., Ryan and Melissa Dennard, and Kelby and Bethany Dennard of Houston;
and five great-grandchildren, Avery Marie, Courtlyn Ruth, Holston, Jeneya, and Ramsey;
along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 Clinton St., in Terre Haute, on
Thursday, June 10, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a service immediately following at 7 p.m.
with her daughter, Pastor Susan Dennard officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be

Eleanora Rose Wythe
TERRE HAUTE — Eleanora Rose Wythe, 84, of Terre Haute, passed away Monday, June
7, 2010, in her home. She was a homemaker, and a devoted mother and a loving
grandmother. She was born Dec. 2, 1925, in Boone County, to William E. White and Ocia
A. (Horlacher) White. She grew up on her parents’ farm, attended a one-room
schoolhouse and graduated from Calfax High School. She was a member of New Hope
(EUB) United Methodist Church in Mulberry.
She was preceded in death by her parents; nine of 10 siblings; and her husband, Allen N.
Wythe.
Survivors include daughters, Diana Totten and husband Gary of Columbus, Susan House
and husband Harold of Terre Haute; one son, Gerald Wythe and wife Debra of Terre
Haute; grandchildren, Warren Totten and wife Kabe, Jason Totten and wife Laura, Kathryn
Adams and husband Douglas, Angie Fisher and husband Chris, Erin Wythe, Nancy Cox
and husband Paul, Kimberly Williamson and husband Mikel, Andrew House and wife
Ashley; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also is survived
by one sister, Elizabeth Gerhardt of Brazil.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St.,
with services at 2 p.m., with Pastor Frank Oakman officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn
Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Vista Care
Hospice.

'Big' Stanley Dane Owens
ROSEDALE — “Big” Stanley Dane Owens, 79, of Rosedale, passed away at 11:53 a.m.
Wednesday, June 9, 2010, in Kindred Hospital in Greenwood. He was born Nov. 28, 1930,
in Parke County, Ind., the son of Buster Owens and Dorothy Peck Owens. He was a
stepson of the late Arthur Peck.
He was a pipefitter for Local 157 of Terre Haute. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the
Korean War. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Jerusalem 99 Free &
Accepted Masons, Vermillion County Low Twelve Club, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute,
American Legion Post in Rosedale, Fraternal Order of Police and was a reserve deputy
for Parke County for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona Yowell Owens of Rosedale; son, Stanley A. Owens and
wife Donna of Rosedale; granddaughters, Jessica and Jennifer Owens of Terre Haute;
grandsons, Randal and Kevin Bollinger; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor
Dan King officiating, and visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow in
Roselawn Memorial Park with military rites by Rosedale American Legion. Visitation will be
4 to 8 p.m. today, June 11, 2010, in Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., in Clinton, with
Masonic rites at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Baptist
Church Missionary Fund.

Jack ‘JL’ Lee Short
TERRE HAUTE — Jack “JL” Lee Short, 78, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday
morning, June 8, 2010, in his residence. Born May 11, 1932, in Clinton, he was the son of
Sherman Short and Mabel (Butts) Short. He married Leila Hart Kalen and she survives.
Jack was a 1950 graduate of Glenn High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the
Korean War. He worked for more than 44 years for Conrail Railroad. Jack was a member
of the William Penn 727 Masonic Lodge, The Grotto, Outdoor Recreation Club, and the
American Legion. His hobbies included deep saltwater fishing in Key Largo, cars, and
gardening.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Debbie Hendricks of Cicero, Robert Short of
Martinsville, Ill., Kent Short of Bacliff, Texas, and Tracy Short-Bullerdick and husband Tim
of Las Vegas; six grandchildren, Scott Hendricks of Indianapolis, Brandy Short-Montes of
Bacliff, Casey Burns and husband John of Terre Haute, Jackie Short of Bacliff, Bobby
Short of Martinsville, and Larry Dale Short of Terre Haute; stepchildren, Chip Kalen and
wife Crystal of West Terre Haute, Laura Chaney and husband Keith of Terre Haute,
Mandy Jones and husband Kenneth of Farmersburg; and several other stepchildren and
stepgrandchildren; a special brother, Tom Trout of Terre Haute; and one nephew and
three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Helen Callahan and
Garland Mallory; daughter, Theresa Short; and brother, Jim Short.
Visitation will be on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St.
The Masons will perform services at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services
are Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ray Leach officiating. Burial will
follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. The Terre Haute Veterans of Foreign Wars will perform
military graveside rites. There will be a gathering following the services at Otter Creek Fire
Department, 3200 E. Park Avenue, in Terre Haute.

Dorothy M Adams
Dorothy M Adams, 84, of Terre Haute, passed away late Wednesday night, June 9, 2010,
at Royal Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Dec. 29, 1925, in
St. Francesville, Ill., to Clifton and Delsa (Irons) Stewart. She was a housewife and a
member of the Eastside Church of Christ.
Dorothy loved flowers and enjoyed quilting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; one sister; and her first
husband, Vernon Legg.
Survivors include her husband, Robert (Bob) Adams, whom she married on May 30, 1977;
children Diana Leslie of Louisville, Ky., and Verna Davis and her husband Doug of
Frankton. Also surviving are grandchildren, Brad Leslie, Drew Leslie and wife Rachel of
Louisville, Tricia Selvage and husband Dave of Charlotte, Mich., and Matt Davis and wife
Jennifer of Indianapolis; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, June 12, 2010, in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500
N. Clinton St. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the funeral home with Brother Abe Miller

Cressy M. Bonness
Cressy M. Bonness, 87, of Terre Haute, died Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Royal Oaks
Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. Born in West Terre Haute, on July 6, 1923, she
was the daughter of William Henry White and Flora (Smoot) White. She had been
attending the North 25th St. Community Mission and Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Jean Weeks of Florida, Joan Sue West of North
Carolina, Sandra Hoffman of Iowa, and Naomi Durham of Texas; her sons, Johnathon
Styhl and Nathanial Troughwick. She has several grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Joseph Goss III; a daughter, Judith Ann
Roecker; a sister, Mary Karn; and two brothers, William White and James White.
Funeral services are 11:30 a.m. Monday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill
Drive, with the Rev. Dwane Brown officiating. Calling is from 10:30 a.m. until service time

Melvin J. Lumaye
TERRE HAUTE — Melvin J. Lumaye, 88, of Terre Haute, died Thursday afternoon, June
10, 2010, in Terre Haute Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was retired from Tredegar
Industries. He was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Forestville, Wis., to August Lumaye and Louise
Vandermuse Lumaye. His wife, Betty R. Seidel Lumaye, preceded him in death in 2002.
Survivors include three sons, John (Linda) Lumaye of New Castle, Keith (Terri) Lumaye, of
Austin, Texas, and Bob (Mary Ann) Lumaye of Terre Haute; two daughters, Susan (John)
Archdeacon, of San Louis Obispo, Calif., and Linda (Louis) Haag of Sullivan; three
brothers, Gerald (Florence), Harold (Judi), and Jim; five sisters, Mary (Lawrence) Conard,
Nora Ripley, Sister Gerald Lumaye, O.S.F., Millie (Lawrence) Jandrin, and Anne (Ralph)
Zeimet; seven sisters-in-law, Delores, Murle, Jeanne, Joyce, Carol, Sandy and Beverly; 10
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He also was
preceded in death by his parents; 11 brothers, Leo, Harry, Joseph, Norbert, Maurice,
Lawrence, Isadore, Bernard, Henry, August, and an infant brother, Harold; and five sisters,
Lillian, Alice, Anna, Margaret and Adeline.
Melvin was a veteran of World War II having served at Pearl Harbor with the U.S. Navy. He
was a member of Disabled American Veterans and St. Patrick Catholic Church.

William A. Lynn
UNIVERSAL — William A. Lynn, 75, of Universal, died at 9:11 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2010,
in Union Hospital - Clinton. He was born on Dec. 28, 1934, in Glasgow, Ky., to Robert and
Pearl Mutter-Lynn. He was control supervisor at Public Service, Wabash River Generating
Plant.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church, in Universal, St. Joseph Church University Parish,
in Terre Haute, and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, in Terre Haute. He
was in the U.S. Navy and USNR, 1951 to 1961.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Mahalia Haynes. Survivors
include his wife, Josephine (Dowell) Lynn, whom he married July 24, 1954; one son, Frank
Lynn and his wife Suzzanne of Rosedale; and three granddaughters, Casey Phillips
(Matthew) of Homer, Ill., Jessi Penn (Zachary) of Columbus, Ind., and Matti Lynn of
Rosedale and fiancé Jeremy Norman of Hillsdale; one grandson, Torre Lynn of Rosedale;
one brother, Bobby Lynn and his wife Maureen of Birmingham, Ala., and several nieces
and nephews.

Edith L. Majors Pugh
Edith L. Majors Pugh, 74, of Brazil, passed away June 12, 2010, in her residence. Born
Oct. 9, 1935, in Clay County, she was the daughter of Arthur Tallman and Beutha
(Holland) Tallman. Edith was a homemaker, and had also worked for many years as a
nurse’s aide at St. Anthony Hospital, and also at Meadows Manor East Nursing Home. She
was a member of Victory Christian Church. Her hobbies included camping, playing cards
and bowling.

Wisconsin, Don Majors of Brazil, Gary Majors and wife Cathy of California, Stella Walker of

Virginia Havey Neuendorf, of Terre Haute, died in Meadows Manor North, on Friday, June
11, 2010. She was born in Fairview, on Feb. 11, 1919, she was the daughter of Louis E.
and Elizabeth A. (Firestone) Havey. Virginia was a U.S. Navy veteran during World War II.
Survivors include her son, Gib and his wife Susan; daughter, Patty Chrisman and husband
Ralph; grandchildren, Jennifer Hall of Bargersville, Kenneth Neuendorf of Duncan, Okla.,
and Anna Richardson and husband Mike of Cayuga; four great-grandchildren, E.J., Luke,
Clint, and Hunter; great-great-grandchild, Dallas; brothers, Louis T. Havey and wife
Barbara of Rockville, Donald Gene Havey and wife Sara of Reelsville, Charles O. Havey

TERRE HAUTE — The family of Margaret Todd Bays Black, who was 101, is deeply
saddened by her death on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Royal Oaks Health Care and
Rehabilitation Center. She was born Jan. 16, 1909, in Stutsman County, N.D., to William M.
and Charity Depriest Todd.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, George and Pat Murphy of Terre Haute; a
granddaughter, Tona Lee of Terre Haute; a grandson, Ralph Lee and his wife Bonnie of
Madison; six great-grandchildren, Angela Lehman and her husband Craig of Zionsville,
Amanda Lee of Evansville, Erin Moore and husband Josh of Terre Haute, Megan
McKeigue, Ian McKeigue and Alexxander Puckett, all of Terre Haute; two great-great-
grandsons, Bradley Moore and Nolan Lehman; sisters, Emma Smith and her husband

and his wife Cecilia of Terre Haute; several nieces and nephews; and two stepgrandsons,

and Gretchen I. Valbert Delaney. Patricia was a secretary and bookkeeper for Ideas Inc.
Survivors include her husband, Paul L. Acton; one daughter, Kim Acton of Findlay, Ohio;
one son, Paul J. Acton and his wife Wendy of Newbury Park, Calif.; three grandchildren,
Cody Acton of Terre Haute, Charlotte Acton and Patrick Acton, both of Newbury Park; and

Janet Mae Ellinger
TERRE HAUTE — Janet Mae Ellinger, 43, of Terre Haute, died at 9:10 p.m. Sunday, June
13, 2010, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Janet was born in Terre Haute, on Jan. 21,
1967, to William and Rosemary Ellinger.
Her survivors include her mother; three brothers, William Ellinger Jr. and his wife Betty,
Daniel Ellinger and his wife Joyce, and Max Ellinger and his wife Donna; three sisters,
Carolyn Higgenbotham and her husband Jerry, Brenda Gess and her husband David, and
Donna Uhey and her husband Mark, all of Terre Haute; as well as countless aunts, uncles,
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Ellinger; and two brothers, Jerry Ellinger
and Johnny Ellinger.

Carmen Tennis Tiffin
TERRE HAUTE — Carmen Tennis Tiffin, wife of James Edward Tiffin and daughter of
Sylvia and Guy Slover was a life-long resident of Terre Haute and died Wednesday, June
16, 2010, in Union Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia Tennis Marrs and her husband Robert and Jaynie
Tiffin Jewell and her husband Kevin; five grandchildren, Amanda Petkiewicz, Robert (Bo)
Marrs, Taylor Floreth, Sarah Casey, and James Tiffin; five great-grandchildren, Sydney L.
Marrs, William L. Hamann, Sylvia Camille Marrs, Miranda L. Hamann, and Avery N. Marrs.
Husbands preceding her in death are Lowell Tennis, James Tiffin, and Hugo Kofmehl.
She was a person of strong character and many interests and skills. She worked as a
private secretary, owned her own business and sang with the Banks of the Wabash
Chorus. Her love of music and commitment to family will long be remembered and honored
by all.

Dennis ‘Cowboy’ Livengood
ROSEDALE — Dennis “Cowboy” Livengood, 64, of Rosedale, died Monday evening, June
14, 2010, at his home. He was born May 15, 1946, in Bloomingdale, to Troy and Ruby
Myers Livengood. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, and retired from
the Air National Guard as a chief master sergeant.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; one son, Clint Livengood; two brothers, Gary and
Kenny Livengood; two sisters, Fleeta Livengood and Audrey Hardy; three grandchildren,
Kailynn Daniels, Hanna Livengood, and Landen Livengood; several nieces and nephews;
special friends, Don and Debby Szatkowski, and Mike and Ann Moore; and many other
friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Travis
Livengood; one brother, Dale Livengood; and one sister, Dorothy Spoonmore.

Barbara L. Jones
TERRE HAUTE — Barbara L. Jones, 86, of Fort Myers, Fla., and formerly of Terre Haute,
went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, in Union Hospital. She was born
on March 12, 1924, in Terre Haute, to George Howard and Thelma M. (Girard) Smith.
Barbara worked as a buyer for Roots Department Store for many years. She loved to
travel, read, and do puzzle books. She also enjoyed crafts.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Jones; one son, David
Jones; one brother, Jack Smith; two sisters, Betty Lou Tallman and Rosemary White; and
several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Survivors include four children, Harold R. Jones and companion Barbara Harlan of Cape

Marion Duane Hamilton
Marion Duane Hamilton, 57, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday morning, June 18, 2010,
at Union Hospital. He was born Aug. 28, 1952, in Brazil, to Charles W. Hamilton and Myrtle
Elwell Hamilton. He was a retired operator from Dennis Trucking. He was a member of local
841 International Union of Operating Engineers.
He is survived by two sons, Brian Beeghly and wife Diana and Patrick Beeghly; five
brothers, Larry and wife Wanda, William and wife Kathy, Lester and wife Rosita, Thomas
and wife Susan and Rex; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Rodgers; one sister-in-law, Phyllis
Hamilton; three grandchildren, Samuel Beeghly, Emily Beeghly, and Katelyn Beeghly; one
great-grandchild, Chelsey Netemeyer; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, John Hamilton, Robert
Hamilton, and Bruce Hamilton.

Patricia Brent Meyer
TERRE HAUTE — Patricia Brent Meyer, 77, of Terre Haute, passed away at 11:20 p.m. on
Thursday, June 17, 2010, in her home. Patricia was born on July 23, 1932, in Terre Haute,
to Thomas E. Brent and Blanche Gray Brent.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Paul C. Meyer on June 19, 2001.
She is survived by one son and daughter- in-law, Brent and Patti Meyer of Bloomfield; one
daughter and son in-law, Sharon and David Ellis of Terre Haute; and five grandchildren,
Brent Ellis, Ethan Ellis, Brylynn Ellis, Adam Meyer and Elizabeth Meyer.
She was a 1950 graduate of Wiley High School and received her bachelor’s degree from
Indiana Teachers College in 1954. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, Tri
Kappa sorority and the Indiana State University Alumni Association. She served as a
volunteer for the Vigo County Historical Museum. She was of the Protestant faith. She was
a person of strong character and a devoted daughter, wife, mother, mamaw and friend.
She took great pride in caring for her family and her home. She loved to spend time at
Shakamak State Park, which has been an important part of her life since she was a child.
She loved to read and travel. She always enjoyed learning about history and she had a
keen interest in genealogy.
Private services will be held at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street with the
Revs. Brent and Patti Meyer officiating. There is no visitation. Burial will be in Roselawn

Evelyn A. Yadon, 84, of Terre Haute, passed away late Tuesday night, June 15, 2010, at
Royal Oaks Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was born on April 9 1926, in
Beedysville, Ark., to Zeb and Ida May (Hubert) Self.
Evelyn worked as an operator at the old Deming hotel, and later went on to work as a
secretary for Indiana State University. She ended up retiring from being a housekeeper at
ISU, after many years of service. She was a Zeta Chapter Trid member and was a Jehovah
Witness.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Sam Self; and one son, Robert E.
Yadon II.
Survivors include one son, James L. Smith of Shelburn; grandchildren, J.R. Smith and wife
Jane Ann of Terre Haute, Jill Thompson and husband Bob of Veedersburg, Jeff Smith of
Terre Haute, and Jay Smith and wife Terry of Robinson, Ill. Also surviving are
great-grandchildren, Greg Smith of Veedersburg, Jana Rae Smith, Jadon Smith, Holly
Smith, and Chase Evans, all of Terre Haute.
Visitation will be held in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., Tuesday June 22,
2010, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the funeral
home. Cremation to follow. Inurnment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers,
donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to Southern Care Hospice or to Terre Haute
Humane Society.

Gladys Gambill (Jenkins) Like
TERRE HAUTE — Gladys Gambill (Jenkins) Like, 93, of Terre Haute, died Wednesday,
April 28, 2010, in Union Hospital. She was born in Connecticut on Dec. 3, 1916, to Arthur
and Mary (Gambill) Jenkins. She was a retired secretary from Crane Naval Ammunition
Depot, where she had worked for many years. She was a member of Maplewood Christian
Church, where she had been active in the Sunshine Center up until a few years ago. She
also was an avid reader. She also was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram Delbert “Nip” Like; two brothers; and
most recently her daughter, Mary Catherine McCracken. Her survivors include her son,
Arthur Like and his wife Carole; a son-in-law, Cliff McCracken; a stepson, Dick Justice and
his wife Marge; two grandchildren, Christine Jones and Bill Like; several stepgrandchildren;
three great-grandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.
DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. In keeping with her
wishes, a private family graveside service will be at Roselawn Memorial Park with the Rev.
Joel Burget officiating.

Beulah F. Funk
TERRE HAUTE — Beulah F. Funk, 81, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday afternoon,
June 20, 2010, at the ELC of Brazil. She was born Sept. 30, 1928, in Vincennes, to John
Huebner and Agnes Bowman Huebner. Her husband, Leonard Funk, passed away in 2001.
She is survived by a daughter, Deanna Strader; sons, David and Dennis Funk; a brother,
Paul Huebner; a sister, Mary Needham; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mattox Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette Ave.,
with the Rev. M. Duane Sinn officiating. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Visitation is 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday.

Delores Irene (Braun) Swenson
TERRE HAUTE — Delores Swenson, 76, of Las Vegas, left this world to be with the angels
on Friday, June 18, 2010. Delores was born in Terre Haute on Dec. 14 1933, to Grace and
Ernest Braun. As the middle child of 10 children, Delores spent her youth and educational
years in the Terre Haute area. While in Terre Haute, she had her two children, son
Kimberly and daughter Lisa. She later moved her family westward to enjoy a fruitful and
happy time traveling, visiting, and living in several different states. While living in Wyoming,
Delores fulfilled her dream of owning a business, a clothing boutique named “Pierre’s.” She
also had the honor of being chosen to serve as a judge in the Miss Wyoming pageant.
Although she experienced an exciting and full life, her protective shining light was always
on that of her children, grandchildren and family. Her home was always open, a pot of
coffee always brewing, the conversation always lively, and the warmth of her heart was
always felt.
Delores was preceded in death by her son, Kim; her parents; two sisters, Juanita and
Virginia; and three brothers, William, Ernest Jr. and Edward. Also preceding her in death
was Charles Kirkman (father of Kim and Lisa).
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Dr. Floyd Swenson; daughter, Lisa Romano;
grandchildren, Ashli Renée and Steven Charles; grandsons, Nathan and Tyson, to whom
she was known as “Gramma Great”; stepdaughters, Carolyn and Patti; a stepson,
Christopher; and stepgrandchildren, Aaron, Graham, Audrey and Peter. Delores also is
survived by a brother, Robert Braun; sisters, Mary Schutte and Shirley McAnnally, all of the
Terre Haute area and sister, Sharon Lynch of Indianapolis; also nieces and nephews, to
whom she was affectionately referred to as “Aunt Doey”; and many special and loving
friends.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held graveside at Roselawn Memorial
Park, Friday June 25, 2010, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Larry Spears officiating. It is specially
requested by the family, that those attending dress in bright colors, or any color of their
choosing other than black.

Ruth P. Klingler Lietchy
TERRE HAUTE — Ruth P. Klingler Liechty, 85, of Terre Haute, died at 8:53 a.m.
Wednesday, June 23, 2010, in Davis Gardens Health Center. She was born in Clay
County, on June 5, 1925, to Uly Klingler and Mary Rentschler Klingler. She was an R.N.
and a member of Maryland Community Church.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Liechty; three sons, Vic Liechty (and wife Deb)
and Jeff Liechty, all of Terre Haute, and Greg Liechty (and wife Annette) of Zionsville. Also
surviving is one brother, Ray Klingler (and wife Sandra) of Sarasota, Fla.; four
grandchildren, Carmen Davis (and husband Darrin), Amber Liechty, Spencer Liechty, and
Trevor Liechty; as well as two great-grandchildren, Zach Davis and Adrian White; and
several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sally; her
parents; and three brothers, P.G., Bob, and Max.
Funeral services will be at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, on Monday,
June 28, 2010, at 1 p.m. with Scot Longyear officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial
Park. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. The family requests
memorial contributions be made Maryland Community Church or charity of choice in her
memory, with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Dorothy M. Dorfmeyer
Jan. 11, 1921-June 24, 2010
ST. BERNICE — Dorothy Marie Males Dorfmeyer, 89, passed away at 8:44 p.m. on
Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the Vermillion Convalescent Center. Dorothy was born on Jan.
11, 1921, to Reavis and Katherine Males. She married Jack C. Dorfmeyer on June 26,
1941, and he preceded her in death on July 12, 2003.
Dorothy is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Velann Dorfmeyer of Clinton,
She also is survived by two granddaughters, Katie Ferrari and her husband Kent of Clinton
and Carlye Mathas and her husband Cole of Montezuma. She also has one great-
grandson, Jackson Wyatt Mathas of Montezuma.
Dorothy was a hairdresser in St. Bernice for many years. She belonged to the Sugar Grove
United Methodist Church. She also was a 50-year member of Royal Neighbors of America
and a 50-year member of the St. Bernice Post 108 American Legion Auxiliary.
The Rev. Bill Duke will perform the service at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., in
Clinton, today, June 26, 2010, at 1 p.m. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. today.
The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Sugar Grove United
Methodist Church.
