Garver, Marilyn E.
Marilyn E. Garver, 62, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at Royal
Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Nov. 28, 1947, in Terre
Haute, to Donovan and Virginia (Cornflos) Maxwell. She was a member of Four Square
Gospel Church, and she worked 11 years as a nurses aid.Survivors include her mother;
sons, Todd Alkire and wife Sandy and Patrick Garver, all of Terre Haute, Anthony Garver
and wife Brittany of Georgia, and Emil Garver of Indianapolis; and one stepdaughter,
Becky Skaggs of Indianapolis. Also surviving are grandchildren, Todd Alkire II, Kevin
Alkire, Kyle Alkire, Donovan Alkire, Chris Spitler and Kailey Jade; and a
stepgranddaughter, Savanna.Marilyn was preceded in death by her father; and one son,
William Alkire Jr.Visitation is Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Thomas
funeral Home, 2200 N. 13th St. Services are Monday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with
Pastor Roush officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Howard, Phyllis L.
Phyllis L. Howard, 79, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday evening, Jan. 31, 2010, at
Union Hospital. She was born July 29, 1930, in Vigo County, to Lloyd L. Anderson and
Edna (Powell) Anderson.She was a member of North Terre Haute Baptist Church, and she
loved being around her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She
worked at Indiana State University for many years in the food court.She was preceded in
death by her father, Lloyd L. Anderson; her mother, Edna Powell Anderson Ferguson;
great-grandson, Dallas James; and an infant brother, Edgar Anderson.Survivors include
her husband, Donald Howard, whom she married on April 16, 1964; children, Jane Ann
Howard McKamey of Crawfordsville, Dan Howard and wife Linda of Terre Haute, Judith
Howard Long of Rosedale, Janis L. Howard of Terre Haute, and Doug Willis Howard of
Indianapolis; grandchildren, Brian, Brandon, Brett, David, Billie Jo, Bobbie Sue, Autumn,
Mary Beth, Meredith, Morgan, and Mallory; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Crystal, and
Lorelei; a sister, Virginia Salmon of Rosedale; brother, Lloyd G. Anderson Sr. and wife
Helen of Terre Haute; her faithful dogs, Angel and Bambi; and several nieces, nephews,
and cousins. Visitation is today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N.
Clinton St., with services at 1 p.m. Pastor Mark Tobey will be officiating. Burial will follow in
Roselawn Memorial Park.

Catlin, Dorothy Louise
Dorothy Louise Catlin, 90, of Terre Haute, passed away early Sunday morning, Jan. 31,
2010, at Union Hospital, with her loving family by her side. She was born Aug. 14, 1919, in
Glezen, Ind., to LeRoy and Edith Louise (Hart) Dugan. Dorothy was a first lieutenant U.S.
Army veteran who served our country during World War II in the Army Nurse Corps. She
served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, and Rhineland. While in service she
received the EAME Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Battle Stars and four O/S Service
Bars. She received her nursing degree from Union Hospital, and received her bachelor's
and master's degrees from Indiana State University. She worked as a registered nurse at
Union Hospital, and later taught practical nursing classes at IVY Tech Community College.
Dorothy was a member of First Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She was a member
of many different organizations in her lifetime, including Indiana State Nurses' Association,
Woman's Department Club of Terre Haute, Badoura Temple 23, Daughters of the Nile, the
Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary, and she was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority,
American Legion Post 346, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. She was preceded in
death by her parents; her husband, John R. Catlin Jr.; a brother, Clive E. Dugan and wife
Irene Dugan; a sister-in-law, Dorothy E. Dugan; and mother-in-law and father-in-law,
Henrietta and John Catlin Sr. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Ross and husband
Chuck of Rosedale, and Janice Jordan and husband Wilbur of Elkhart; a brother, LeRoy
Dugan Jr. of Michigan; grandchildren, John Dierdorf and fiancé Jennifer Crittenben of
Indianapolis, Michael Dierdorf and wife Julia of Terre Haute, Tonya Jordan and fiancé
Michael Hunt of Elkhart, and Todd Jordan and wife Chasity of Terre Haute;
great-grandchildren, Erin Dierdorf, Todd Jordan Jr., and Riley Dierdorf; stepgrandchildren,
Chris Ross and wife Dawn of Greencastle, Tracy Dycus and husband Tommy of Terre
Haute, Heather Cox and husband Jeff of Evansville, and Todd Ross and wife Jessica of
Phoenix; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Martha and Bob
Huey; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8
p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. Beta Sigma Phi and Daughters of the
Nile will both perform services during visitation in her honor. Funeral services will be on
Thursday at 11 a.m., in the funeral home, with the Rev. Bernie Jackson officiating. Burial
will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, with VFW Post 972 performing graveside military
rites.

Roberts, Mary Evinger Trimble
Mary Evinger Trimble Roberts, 80, of Terre Haute passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010
in her residence with her loving family beside her. She was born June 27, 1929 in Terre
Haute, Ind. to Russell Evinger and Mae DePlanty Evinger. She graduated from Garfield
High School in 1947 and Indiana State Teachers College in 1951. Mary was a retired
teacher and a homemaker. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, Tri Kappa, PEO
and Women's Department Club. Mary was a lifelong member of Maple Avenue United
Methodist Church in Terre Haute and a member of Chapel of the Cross United Methodist
Church in Columbia, Mississippi. Mary was preceded in death by her first husband Jerry
W. Trimble who passed away May 28, 1988; and second husband Arnold Roberts who
passed away Oct. 30, 2005. She is survived by her son, James Trimble of Terre Haute;
her daughter, Becky Brammer and her husband Jay of Indianapolis; one sister, Kathryne
Harkness of Cincinnati, Ohio; and five grandchildren; Lauren Trimble, Abigail Brammer
Quiocho and her husband Chris, Michelle Brammer Murray and her husband Kevin,
Megan Brammer and Rachel Brammer; and three nephews; J. William Harkness, James
and Richard Harkness. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010 at Maple Avenue
United Methodist Church, 1203 Maple Avenue with visitation from 6 until 8 p.m. on
Monday, Feb. 8, 2010 at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, and from 10 a.m.
until service time at the church on Tuesday, Feb. 9. The Rev. David Rockhill will be
officiating; burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions can be made to Maple Avenue United Methodist Church.

Weaks, William Cooper
William Cooper Weaks, age 80, of Terre Haute passed away early Feb. 1, 2010 in his
home with his family by his side. He was born on Nov. 16, 1929 in St. Louis, Mo. to William
Cooper Weaks Sr. and Sarah Linda (McDaniel) Weaks.William received his bachelor's
degree in mechanical engineering from Rose Poly, which is now Rose Hulman. He was a
United States Staff Sgt. Air Force veteran. William worked as a project manager for
engineering firms all around the world, then after retiring, he owned his own business
working on and selling antiques. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife
Vivian.Survivors include children, William T. Weaks and wife Terri of Lubbock, Texas, Clint
Weaks and wife Linda of Buffalo Grove, Ill., Elizabeth Ann Scrimgeour of London, Ontario,
Janet Lynn Ihne and husband Trent of Lewisville, Texas, and Gant Weaks and wife Janice
of Lubbock. Also surviving are stepchildren, John W. Verostko and wife Gale of Terre
Haute, Sharon Oakley of Borden, and Darcy Verostko Gray and husband Christopher of
Borden; 15 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.Cremation has been chosen. A
memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. today in Roselawn Funeral home, with his daughter,
Pastor Janet Ihne officiating. VFW Post 972 will be performing military honors. Inurnment
will be in Roselawn Memorial Park next to his wife, Vivian.

Vinardi, Nick
Nick Vinardi, 93, of West Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, in Union
Hospital. He was born on Aug. 16, 1916, in Easy Town, Ind., the son of Mike Vinardi and
Marie (Ferro) Vinardi. He married Deloras Mae Callahan and she preceded him. Nick had
worked as manager at Midland Glass in Terre Haute and then worked and retired as an
Iron Worker for Local 439. He was a member of the Catholic Church and also a member
of the Moose Lodge in Clinton. His hobbies include golfing, gardening, bowling, hunting
and fishing. He also was an avid Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinal fan.Survivors
include his children, Carole Marion and husband Maynard of West Terre Haute, Larry
Vinardi and wife Judy of Shirkieville, and Nick A. Vinardi and wife Robin of New Goshen; a
stepson, Bill Riley and wife Twinkle of Milan; grandchildren, Kimberly Malott and husband
Mike of Florida, Annaliza Butterman and husband John, Tim Marion and wife Tammy, and
Leonard Marion and wife Cassie, all of West Terre Haute, Kristen York and husband
Chad of New Goshen, Kevin Vinardi and wife Michelle of Terre Haute, Keith Vinardi of New
Goshen, Kyle Vinardi of Shirkieville, and Kara Leturgez and husband Jason of West Terre
Haute; 15 great-grandchildren; and a niece, Anita Lawson and husband Melvin of Terre
Haute. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Anna Lawson; and brother,

Hoke, Emerson L.
CLINTON — Emerson L. Hoke, 83, of Clinton, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7,
2010, in Union Hospital Clinton. He was born May 6, 1926, in Vigo County, the son of
Vern Hoke and Sylvia Kyle Hoke. He was a coal miner and part owner of the Blue Bird
Coal Mine, and was a pipefitter in construction. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War
II, a member of Jerusalem Lodge 99 Free and Accepted Masons, Vermillion County Low
Twelve Club, American Legion Post 140, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, 40 and 8,
Half Century Club and Local 157. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife,
Frances Hoke, on March 2, 2000. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Judy
and Charlie Holmes of Whitestown; sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Beth Hoke, and
Dan and Judy B. Hoke, all of Clinton; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two
sisters, Betty Chubb of Clinton, and Marge Neice of Fontanet; four brothers, Don, Charlie,
and Bob Hoke, all of Terre Haute, and Tom Hoke of Crawfordsville; and several nieces
and nephews. He also is survived by his companion, Betty Andis. Services are 10 a.m.
Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., with the Rev. George
Guinn officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with Masonic memorial rites at 7:
30 p.m. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. In lieu of flowers,

Webb, Waneta Lee Keller
Waneta Lee (Keller) Webb, of West Terre Haute, went home to her heavenly Father on
Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at the age of 74. She is survived by her loving husband of 57
years, Jack Webb; four daughters, Helen Webb of Guam, Kay Graham and her husband
Bill, Jane Lingenfelser and her husband Gary, and Jackie Decker and her husband Mike,
all of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren, Brian Fields of Florida, Lennie Fields and his wife
Byeoni, Angie Dwyer and her husband Andy, Tiffany Wellman and her husband Tommy,
Breanne Newton and her husband Jan, Jennifer Evinger and her husband Chris, Jessica
Donna and her husband Tim, and Caitlin Decker; 14 great-grandchildren, Devon
Hanranhan, Austin Fields, Steven Dwyer, Logan Fields, Lacey Fields, Tameska Richards,
Cheyann Hyde, Sarah Richards, Makayla Dwyer, Christina Richards, Jena Wellman,
Timmy "Little Lee" Donna Jr., and Adilynn Newton; and one whom is with her in heaven,
Connor Michael Newton; also surviving are three sisters, Eulalia Maxwell of Terre Haute,
Mary Ward of Mooresville, and Ida Jackson of Bullhead, Ariz.; and several nieces and
nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters; and three
brothers.She retired from Union Hospital as a supervisor in the housekeeping
department. She attended the Cross Tabernacle Church. Funeral services are 11 a.m.
Friday at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with Pastor
Larry Gilaspy officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m.

Pugh Sr., Thomas E.
BRAZIL — Thomas E. Pugh Sr., age 81, of Brazil, passed away Feb. 11, 2010 in his
home. He was born on April 8, 1928 in Terre Haute to Edward and Mary (Thomas) Pugh.
Thomas was a United States Army veteran who served in Germany during World War II.
He retired from working as a carrier for the United States Postal Service in Indianapolis for
over 25 years. He loved bowling, camping and watching Jeopardy and Wheel Of Fortune.
He was a member of Victory Christian Church and the Centerpoint Masonic Lodge 597.
He was a former Pastor at Fowler Park Chapel.He was preceded in death by his parents;
a daughter, Pam Pugh; three brothers, Carl, Robert, and Raymond Pugh and a son-in-
law, Max Walker.Survivors include his loving wife, Edith (Tallman) Pugh whom he married
on Dec. 31, 1970; children, Tom Pugh Jr. of Brazil, Tom Majors and wife Irma of
Wisconsin, Don Majors of Brazil, Gary Majors and wife Cathie of California, Stella Walker
of Brazil, Mark Majors and wife Jo of Florida, Marian Burns and husband Scott of Brazil,
and Daniel Majors of Brazil. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ryan Pugh, Keith, Jenny,
Don Jr., Thresa, Amy, Marcie, Andrew, Katrina, Austin and Paul Majors, Chris and Jeff
Walker, Autumn Miller, Shad and Courtney Majors, Baileigh Burns, and Alex Majors, and

Neal, Richard J.
Richard J. Neal was born March 11, 1929, and passed away on Feb. 12, 2010. The loving
husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather was preceded in death by his parents,
Bertha E. Neal and Richard Neal; and granddaughter, Sarah E. Neal. Dick is survived by
his wife of 56 years, Rita R. Neal (Bockhold); children, Robert Neal (Kathy) of Westfield,
Richard Neal (Mary) of Noblesville, Elaine Holler (Greg) of Indianapolis, Mary Beth
Robinson (John) of Terre Haute, Nancy Birchler (David) of Fort Wayne, and James Neal
(Lucy) of Noblesville; as well as grandchildren, Tracey Lockhart, Jeff Neal, Richard,
Raymond and Robert Neal, Travis Holler, Becky Lane, Beth Anne Doner, Dawn Lawson,
Brooke Mendoza, Benjamin Birchler, Laura Birchler, Katie Miller, Kristen Neal, Matthew
Neal; and six great-grandchildren.Dick Neal was a veteran of the Korean War, where he
served in the 44th Engineers. He was treasurer for Terre Haute Malleable for 31 years,
following he served as treasurer of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College for five years prior to
his retirement. Dick (Yogi) was a coach and important participant in the formation of the
Babe Ruth League and facilities at Valle Field. He also was very active in the Schulte High
School Booster Club and was past president of the Rose-Hulman Parents Association. He
has been a long time active parishioner at St. Patrick's Parish. He also was a member of
the Knights of Columbus, The Sycamore Club, and Elks Lodge 86.Mass of Christian burial
will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Rick
Ginther officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, with military honors by
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, in Callahan
and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of

Osmon, Robert J.
Robert J. Osmon, 70, of Terre Haute, passed away at 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb.
10, 2010 in his residence with his family by his side. He was born in Terre Haute on Oct.
12, 1939 to Jack Osmon and Irene Bridgewater Osmon. Bob was a retired railroad
conductor for Conrail. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Shook Osmon — whom he
married July 22, 1987. He is also survived by three children; Sheila Spinoso, Christopher
J. Osmon, and Kevin Struble. Other survivors include his granddaughter; Alexis Kaitlin
Spinoso; one brother; Gary Osmon; two sisters; Suzanne Soules, and Peggy Osmon; as
well as extended family members Jeff and Lisa Struble and their daughter Lauren. He was
preceded in death by his parents and his sister Barbara Osmon. He was a member of
Maplewood Christian Church, Social Lodge 86 F and AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre
Haute, the Zorah Shrine, and a member of the Great Banquet Community of Zionsville
Presbyterian Church. Bob was an avid Indiana University sports fan making several trips
to see their games; even unknowingly taking his beloved cat Pawz in the trunk of his car
once. He was also a Colts fan and enjoyed attending their training camps at Rose-
Hulman. His favorite pastimes were reading on his patio, enjoying his self-made Koi pond,
watching the birds and squirrels and his rose bushes bloom in his yard. He enjoyed
meeting his friends for breakfast regularly. He was very comfortable taking naps in his
recliner with his new cat Keeper. He was a former member of the Terre Haute Housing
Authority and a former Justice of the Peace in Otter Creek Township. Funeral services
are 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr., with
the Rev. Craig Wininger officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14,
2010, in the funeral home, with Masonic Services by Social Lodge 86 at 7:30 p.m. Burial
will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family requests memorial contributions be made to
Vista Care Hospice (3401 S. 4th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47802) in his memory.

Thoms Jr., Carl John
Carl John Thoms Jr., 60, of Terre Haute, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010. He was born
Aug. 22, 1949, to Carl Thoms Sr. and Berneice Stella Truttier Thoms. He is a U.S. Navy
veteran. He worked for Hulman and Co. for 15 years in the shipping department.Carl
enjoyed riding his bike around the Wabash Valley. He was a member of T.N.T.'S., Terre
Haute's wrestling club, the American Legion, and Teamster's Local 135. He had a love of
fishing, hunting and wrestling with his grandchildren. Carl is survived by his wife since
Dec. 23, 1974, Melinda Hart Thoms; children, Richard Bell of Bridgeton, Gretchen Thoms
(Chris) of Terre Haute, and Carl Thoms III (Donna) of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Sierra
Miller, Shania Bell, Taylor and Tori Green, Jason and Noah Thoms, and Alexis, Alivia, and
Avienne Gouker; sister, Mary Beth Bragg of Terre Haute; niece, Karen Fell; nephew, John
Bragg; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and
great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was preceded in
death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Kendra Bell; sister, Margaret Thoms; and niece,
Michelle Bragg.Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, from 1 p.m. until the funeral

Weir, Suzanne
Suzanne Weir, 60, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at 4:03 p.m., in
Union Hospital. She was born Jan. 21, 1950, in Brazil, to Joseph R. Lovett and Rosanne
James Lovett. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph
R. Lovett and Rosanne James Lovett Wampler. She is survived by her husband of 39
years, the Rev. Merrill Weir Sr., whom she married in June 1971. She also is survived by
three sons, the Rev. Merrill Weir Jr. and his wife Julie of Terre Haute, the Rev. Bobby
Weir and his wife Tanya of Bloomington, and the Rev. Jason Weir and his wife Alicia of
Terre Haute; four brothers and their wives, Joe Lovett and his wife Sue, Steve Lovett and
his wife Tina, all of Brazil, Dennis Lovett and his wife Darla, and Bryan Lovett and his wife
Debbie, all of Terre Haute; one sister, Debbie Dove and her husband Tim of Brazil; four
grandchildren, Jenna Weir, Hannah Weir, Logan Weir and Abigail Weir; and several
nieces and nephews. Suzanne was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She also was a devoted member of Christ Temple Church, where she fulfilled the role of a
loving church mother and pastor's wife. She was an avid collector and lover of antiques.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Temple Church, 2311 Locust St. Visitation will be
from 4 to 8 p.m. today, at the church, and from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday,
also at the church. The Rev. J.H. Osborne will be officiating along with the Revs. Tony
Frederick, John Harden and Fred Stanger. Arrangements have been entrusted to Greiner
Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Scott, Donald Edwin
Donald Edwin Scott, 68, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, in Union
Hospital. He was a retired master sergeant in the United States Air Force, retired teacher
from the Batesville School Corporation and currently a teacher at Clay City High School.
Don was born on Dec. 17, 1941, in Rockville, to Clifford and Sarah Maxine Scott.His
survivors include his wife of 43 years, Sheri Scott; two sons, Randall and wife Hilary and
their children, Fallon and Cole of Charlotte, N.C., Brian and his girlfriend Trina Senter and
children, Morgan and Brett Scott and Jaydyn McClarey of Clinton; his mother, Sarah
Maxine Scott of Terre Haute; his brother, Larry and wife Naomi of Terre Haute; two sisters,
Juanita Morris of Terre Haute and Carol Ann and Ivan Judd of Paducah, Ky.Don
graduated in 1959 from Garfield High School, received his bachelor of science degree
from Syracuse University and Indiana State University, and a master's degree from
Indiana Wesleyan.Don's interests included reading, politics, puzzles, sports and
traveling.Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St.

Keller, Benjamin
FARMERSBURG — Benjamin Keller, 87, of Farmersburg, passed away late evening,

1922, in Tapelo, Ark., to Buel and Hattie (Hobbs) Keller. Benjamin went to school until he
left to help work on the family farm. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served our country
during World War II. He also worked as an iron worker. In earlier years, Benjamin loved
gardening. He always grew things he could eat, not just smell!He was preceded in death
by his parents; his wife, Vanessa Keller; and a brother, Arvel Keller.Survivors include
children, Danny Keller and wife Darlene, Joan Keller and Ray Keller, all of Terre Haute,
and Robert Letner and wife Bonnie of Farmersburg; grandchildren, Richard Keller, Karen
Goodwin, David Keller, Debbie Keller, Anthony Keller, Benjamin Burrel, Missy Burrel,
Chad Keller, Jimmy Bennett, Tabitha Houser, Bobbie Langer and Cory Archer; siblings,
Bill Keller, Dean Keller, Charlie Keller and Wanda Mae Hof; and many great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from noon to 1 p.m. in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 North Clinton
St., in Terre Haute. Services are 1 p.m. today in the funeral home. Burial will follow in
Roselawn Memorial Park.

Shull, Herberta J.
DANVILLE, Ind. — Herberta J. Shull, 83, of Danville, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16,
2010, in her residence. She was born on July 31, 1926, in Terre Haute, the daughter of
Herbert and Ethel Pearl Mann Garrett. She married James E. Shull and he preceded her
in death. Herberta worked for Winona Hospital in the payroll department until retiring.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara J. Bates of Danville; sister, Betty Caton and
husband Sidney of Terre Haute; sister-in-law, Betty Garrett of Brazil; and many nieces
and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her son, Steve A. Siner; and brother,
Fred Garrett.Private services will be held with burial to follow in Roselawn Memorial Park
Cemetery, in Terre Haute. Baker Funeral Home, in Danville, is in charge of the
arrangements. Contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Rebman, Allen L.
Allen L. Rebman, 62, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, in Union
Hospital. He was born on Sept. 27, 1947, in Warsaw, Ind., the son of Marshall Rebman
and Neva (Hontz) Rebman. He married Jeanie Denny and she survives.Allen served in
the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He then went to work as a auto mechanic at
Indiana State University for 39 years. His hobbies included sprint car racing, NASCAR
racing, going to the Terre Haute Action Track for sprint car races, puzzles and ISU
Women's Basketball.Survivors include his wife; a son, Andrew J. Rebman and wife
Melinda of Greenwood; a daughter, Katie Rebman and boyfriend Sean Stafford of Terre
Haute; two grandchildren, David Rebman and Abbigail Rebman of Greenwood; a sister,
Darlene Robinson and husband Allen of Warsaw; a brother-in-law, Perry Denny and wife
Kay of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his
parents.Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N.
Clinton St., and also Saturday from 10 until 11 am at the funeral home. Services will be
Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Graham officiating. Burial

Kehrt, Garnett Eugene
Garnett Eugene Kehrt, 80, of Terre Haute died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010 at 5:30 a.m. in
Southwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he had resided for the past year.
He was born June 21, 1929 in Jennings County, Ind. to Glenn W. Kehrt and Loretta
(Knotts) Kehrt. Eugene was a veteran of the Korean War, served in the United States Air
force, 181st Tactical Fighter Group and retired from the Indiana National Guard after 35
years of service in 1985. Prior to his work with the National Guard, he worked on the
railroad for eight years. Eugene is survived by three sons: Darrell Kehrt and his wife
Debbie of Plainfield, Ind., Gary Kehrt and his wife Leigh Ann of Brazil, Ind., and Doug
Kehrt and his wife Lisa of Terre Haute; a sister: Wilma Crowley and her husband Dick of
Brown County, Ind.; five grandchildren: Jeremy Kehrt and his wife Meagen of Greenville,
S.C., Eric Kehrt of Plainfield, Kreigh Kehrt of Brazil, Kaci Kehrt of Brazil, and Jaylene
Kehrt of Terre Haute; three stepgrandchildren: Brittany, Michelle, and Jarred, and four
stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 53
years Margaret Steele Kehrt. He was a member of World Gospel Church for over 45
years. Funeral services will be Monday Feb. 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. in World Gospel Church
with the Rev. William Coker officiating. Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park
with graveside military honors. Visitation is Sunday Feb. 21, 2010 from 2 until 6 p.m. in

O'Connell, Stella Esther Clark Jenkins
Stella Esther Clark Jenkins O'Connell, 99, of Terre Haute, passed away at 2:40 p.m. on
Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010 in Royal Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She
was born in Linton, Ind., on Jan. 23, 1911, to Henry Edward Clark and Della Mae Brown
Clark. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; one sister; first
husband, Kenneth Jenkins in 1976 and her second husband, Raymond O'Connell in
1992. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was an active member of
Terre Haute First Baptist Church where she had been a member since 1921, a member
of the Homebuilders Class, was a volunteer at Union Hospital for 16 years, was a Past
Grand Noble of Alma Rebekah Lodge 568, 50 year member of the Harrison Extension
Club, a 1929 graduate of Wiley High School, and attended Indiana State College. She
taught piano and was an accomplished organist, having played at a number of local
churches. She also played the cello with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. Funeral
services will be at Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 25th and Wabash Ave., on Monday,
Feb. 22, 2010 at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Bernie Jackson officiating. Visitation will be today,
Feb. 21, 2010 from 2 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial
Park.

Young, Frederick E.
Frederick "Fred" E. Young, 77, of Terre Haute, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb.
15, 2010, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, Fla. He was born in Terre Haute,
on Aug. 21, 1932, to Russell and Dorothy (Cooper) Young. He worked a total of 54 years
at the Tribune-Star. He retired in 1994 from the mailroom department but continued to
work part-time. He was an avid boater, loved to water ski and play tennis. He was Boy
Scout leader for many years. He loved carpentry, electrical work and home construction.
He built many new homes and volunteered his time to build two churches. He was a U.S.
Army veteran. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 2001 and the CWA Mailers
Union in Terre Haute. He was preceded in death by his parents.He is survived by his wife
of 50 years, Betty Jean Young, whom he married on July 26, 1959; his brother, David
Young and wife Helen of Grand Island, Neb.; four loving children, Marsha (Young)
Wenzel and husband Monte of Terre Haute, Patrick Young and wife Yvonne of Berne,
Ind., Christina (Young) Kane and husband Michael of Terre Haute and Paul Young and
wife Sharon of Charleston, S.C.; 13 grandchildren, Matthew Wenzel and wife Rendela,
Marcus Wenzel and wife Christina, Melissa Lemmons and husband Jeremiah, Joshua,
Jessica, Julia, Joel, Jonathan and Jennifer Young, Skyler, Tyler and Abigail Kane and
Andrew Young; seven great-grandchildren, Kayla and Ryan Wenzel, Logan, Maylee and
Emilie Wenzel, Brayden and Gavin Lemmons; nephew, Douglas Young and wife Colleen
and niece, Dorothy (Young) Sullivan of Kansas City.He was a lifetime member and a
trustee of the Terre Haute Bible Center.Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23,
2010, at the Terre Haute Bible Center, with Pastors Jerry Nash and Patrick Young

Tatem, Georgenia
Georgenia Tatem, 96, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 9:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb.
20, 2010, at Meadows Manor North in Terre Haute. She was born March 6, 1914, in
Terre Haute, to John and Elizabeth Armstrong. Her husband, Howard Tatem, preceded
her in death. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Dean Allen of West
Terre Haute; three sisters, Sarah Coons, Rebecca Remick, and Ethel Rowe; four
grandchildren, Brad Allen and his wife Sherry of Terre Haute, Brian Allen and his fiancée
Andrea Shaw of West Terre Haute, Laura Johnson and her husband Larry, and Cheryl
Frye and her husband Jarrod, all of Tennessee; five great-grandchildren, Seanna Allen
Fagg, Bradley Allen, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Cheyanne Frey, and Savannah Frey; a
great-great-grandchild, Corbin Allen; and many nieces and nephews. She also was
preceded in death by her son, David Tatem; and two sisters, Margaret Tatem, and
Agnes Sewell. She was a member of West Terre Haute Baptist Church. Funeral services
will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre
Haute, with Pastor Jeff Augustus officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, and prior to services Tuesday. The family suggests
that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Terre Haute Baptist
Church, which will be used for Camp Assurance which is a summer retreat for the church

Banas, Geraldine Weddle
Geraldine Weddle Banas, 80, of Terre Haute, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Cloverleaf
Healthcare in Knightsville. She was born April 28, 1929, in Terre Haute, to Richard C.
Weddle and Thelma English Weddle.Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Adams and
her husband Jeff of Princeton, and Donna McKean and her husband Tim of Poland; and
four grandchildren, Cory Adams of Terre Haute, Alina Adams of Princeton, and Jessie
and Kady McKean, both of Poland. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her
husband of 52 years, Donald J. Banas.Geraldine was a member of the Woman's
Department Club, she and Donald attended several of the local Catholic churches after
their marriage in 1951, and had been a teacher earlier at St. Patrick's School. She
collected antique dolls and made her family a top priorityFamily and friends are invited to

Jennette E. Phillips, 72, of Terre Haute, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at 10:18 a.m. in
Union Hospital. Jennette was a homemaker and previously had worked as a CNA at
Meadows Manor East. She was born on May 9, 1937, in Terre Haute, to Walter and
Flora Brownfield.She is survived by her husband of 46 years, James Phillips; three sons,
James B. Phillips and Brian Phillips, both of Terre Haute, and Greg Phillips of
Indianapolis; three daughters, Shela Seeley of Texas, Brenda Robertson of Texas, and
Laura Stearley of Brazil; seven grandchildren, Krista, Amber, Andrea, Brian, Eric, Aron,

Hazel L. Roy, 86, died at 8:35 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Sullivan County
Community Hospital, in Sullivan. She was born Oct. 19, 1923, in Sullivan, to Arley James
Spoonmore and Ellen Ladson Spoonmore. She was a homemaker.Survivors include her
companion, Ray Bush; one son, Bennie Roy and wife Chris; three daughters, Kathryn
Tomlin, Sherry Thompson and husband Don, Susie Scott and husband Bob; two
brothers, Donald Spoonmore and wife Carolyn, Doyle Spoonmore and wife Shirley;
seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse, Carl A. Roy; and two sisters,

Johnson, Lucy E.
Lucy E. Johnson, 85, was called home peacefully from her residence on Feb. 22, 2010,
surrounded by her family. Lucy was born Sept. 13, 1924, in McLeansboro, Ill., to Levi
and Elizabeth Hook. She married Hubert L. Johnson, on Aug. 5, 1949, and he preceded
her in death in 1998. Survivors include her children, Donna Long, Dennis Johnson and
wife Cyndy, Dianna Hlatko, all of Terre Haute; nine grandchildren, Jim Long and wife
Nikki, Wendy Wycoff and husband John, Matt Johnson and wife Nathalie, Sam Johnson
and wife Heather, Robert Smith, Jesse Smith, Steven Dickerson, Ashley Hlatko, and
Heather Hlatko; 20 great-grandchildren, Ellen, Rhiannon, Amanda, Conner, Shelby,
McKenzie, Ayden Buster, Seirra, Jade, Wyatt, Camden, Corbin, Kailer, Zachery, Jesse,
Kaitlyn, Maddisun, Steven, Connie, and Lathan; a brother, Eli Hook and wife Ruth; and
several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a
daughter, Connie Dickerson; sons-in-law, Jim Long and David Hlatko; brothers, Wilburn
and Alfred Hook; and a sister, Doris Orr. Lucy loved cooking, flowers, and caring for
infants. She retired after 23 years of childcare at A.L.L. Nursery at Washington School.
Lucy was best friends with her children and will be loved and sadly missed by her family,
and friends, forever and always. Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, from 10
a.m. until noon, at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive. Services will begin at
noon in the funeral home, officiated by Mark Grayless. Burial will take place in Roselawn
Memorial Park.

Emory, Susanna Rose Engles
Susanna Rose Engles Emory, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010,
at home. She was born in Terre Haute, on July 27, 1921, to Kenneth Dewey Engles and
Helen Edna Burgess Engles.She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Arthur
Emory, on Sept. 16, 1997.Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Sue Emory Watson
and Pamela Emory Kress; two sons-in-law, Loren Allen Watson and Elmis E. Kress Jr.;
two granddaughters, Theresa Sue Watson and Vonda Lynn Kress, both of Terre Haute;
four grandsons, Dale Allen Watson of Wisconsin, John Fredrick Kress of Illinois, Kenneth
William Watson of Arkansas, and Dustin Elmis Kress of Ohio; two granddaughters-in-law,
Melissa Rae Corson Watson and Karen Phagoo Kress; two great-grandchildren, Baylee
Rae Watson and Logan Allen Dwayne Watson; and several nieces and
nephews.Susanna was a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Independent Order of Odd
Fellows. She was in Girl Scout Troop 64 for 34 years. She helped her grandkids in 4-H
and Boy Scouts.Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Feb. 26, 2010 at
Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. Services are 1 p.m. today in the funeral
