Mitchell, Hazel A.  

Hazel A. Mitchell, 102, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday morning, Aug. 28, 2009, at
Meadows Manor North Nursing Home. She was born on Jan. 27, 1907, to Calvin and Mary
(Bridgewater) Pitts. She worked as a cook for Otter Creek School for over 30 years. She
was a current member of Rio Grande Baptist Church and a former member of North Terre
Haute Baptist Church. She was always very active in her churches when she was able.She
was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Harold Mitchell, who passed
away on Dec. 7, 1997; a son, Harold Lee Mitchell, who passed away in October 2001; two
sisters, Flossie Hallett and Nora Jeffreys; and a granddaughter, Linda
Alumbaugh-MitchellShe is survived by her son, Don Mitchell and wife Linda of Terre Haute;
grandchildren, Bob Mitchell and wife Beth of Kalamazoo, Mich., Donnie Mitchell of
Cloverdale, John Mitchell and wife Cheryl of Carmel, Lisa Tarrh and husband Dave, and
Mary Kay Love and husband Ron, all of Terre Haute; great-grandchildren, Ryan Mitchell,
Danielle Morrison and husband Karl, Elizabeth Mitchell and Karen Mitchell, all of
Kalamazoo, Scott and wife Tracie of Indianapolis, Travis Tarrh, Christopher Tarrh, David
Tarrh, of Terre Haute, Matt Mitchell and Brian Mitchell of Carmel, Heather Mitchell, Shawn
Mitchell and wife Jenny, Shannon Mitchell, Brittany Hobson, Joshua Hobson and Ron Love
Jr., all of Indianapolis; great-great-grandchildren, Allyssa, Rory, Logan, Lilia, Alex, Austin,
Peyton, Kendra, Cameron, and Gavin; aunts, Pauline Mosteller, Jessie Richardson, Mary
Crouthers, Marge Jeffers and her late husband Clifford, and Annie Threlkeld and her
husband Bill.Visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. in Roselawn
Funeral Home. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Bob Welling
officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in Hazel's
name may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society or to Shriners Hospital.  
Eads, Dora Maxine "Max"   

Dora Maxine "Max" Eads, 69, of West Terre Haute, passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, in
Union Hospital, in Terre Haute. She retired from Goodwill Industries in Terre Haute, after
several years of service. She was born on April 3, 1940, in Jewett, Ill., to Arlis Eden Webb
and Ruth Marie Spiker WebbSurvivors include her husband of 53 years, Robert W. Eads,
whom she married on Aug. 15, 1956; a son, Paul S. "Scooby" Eads and his wife Heidi; a
brother, Jack Webb (Waneta); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wayne Price, Kenny and
Judy Eads and Ruth Robertson; two grandchildren, Damon Eads and Madison
Eads-Perry; extended family members, Brett Perry, Steve Allen and Jamie Waggoner; and
a host of nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her half brother, George
Webb.She was a member of Grace Chapel Church in West Terre Haute.Funeral services
are 10 a.m. Tuesday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute,
with the Rev. John Bigger officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to
8 p.m. today and prior to services Tuesday. The family suggests that if friends so desire,
memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association with envelopes
available in the funeral home.  
Reed, Leslie A. "Les"    
Leslie A. "Les" Reed, 75, of Linton, and formerly of Terre Haute, died Friday, Aug. 28,
2009, in Green County Hospital. He was a boilermaker and a real estate agent. He was
born on Feb. 9, 1934, in Sullivan, to David Andrew Reed and Eloise (Lowe) Reed.He is
survived by four daughters, Deborah Hauck, Rhonda Mason and Leslie Ann Reed, all of
Linton, and Denise Snyder of Franklin; one son, Robert "Bobby" Corenflos of Petersburg;
two brothers, Clifford Reed and Francis "Kern" Reed; a sister, Cheryl Crawley; 11
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.He was
preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Katherine "Kitty" Reed and Joan E. Reed;
and four brothers, Estol Reed, Charlie Reed, Philip Reed and Carl "Bud" Reed. He was a
graduate of Gerstmeyer High School, a member of Farmers Chapel Church and
Boilermakers Local Union 374. He also enjoyed collecting steins and traveling.Funeral
services are 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill
Drive, with the Rev. Harold Throckmartin officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, in the funeral home. The family suggests
that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer
Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  
Boswell, Donald Dale    

BRAZIL — Donald Dale Boswell, 81, of Brazil, passed away at his residence, at 4:45 a.m.
Sept. 4, 2009 following an extended illness. He was born October 18, 1927, in Putnam
County, Ind., to Emory and Beulah (Cofer) Boswell. Don graduated from Bridgeton High
School with the class of 1945. While in high school he was a member of the track,
basketball, and baseball teams. He married Naomi Wright Dec. 12, 1949. Don worked for
the Arketex Ceramics Corporation, Clay City Co-op, Wesland Co-op in Montezuma, Ind.
retiring in 2003. Don was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching Cardinal Baseball,
Pacers Basketball and Colts Football. He also enjoyed bowling and playing horse shoes,
wood working and will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
He was a member of the Way of the Cross Assembly of God Church.He was preceded in
death by his parents; a sister, Jean Gebhardt and his twin sister, Doris Gale Scott.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years Naomi Boswell; son Mike Boswell and friend
Dawn Barger; grandchildren: Andrew Killion and wife Heather of Crown Point, Ind. and
Autumn Drake and husband Sean of Brazil and a sister, Merita Brinson of Indianapolis, as
well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.Services for Mr. Boswell
will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in French Funeral Home, in Brazil, with Pastor Jimmy Dowers
officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow
services at Roselawn Cemetery, in Terre Haute.  
Everett, Betty A.    

Betty A. Everett, 86, of Terre Haute, passed away at 1:05 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, in
Southwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Terre Haute, on Jan. 30,
1923, to Chris C. Kelley and Hazel B. Walker Kelley.She is survived by one daughter,
Nancy Gregory; five grandchildren, Tony Everett (Michelle), Christy Schroeder (Jeff), Amy
Wence (Chris), Kelley Kratzer (Derek) and Sean VanLandingham (Kati). Also surviving are
11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Orville Everett, in 1983; her son, Robert "Bob" Everett; a son-in-law, Pat
Gregory; and two brothers, Russell Kelley and Wayne Kelley.She was a member of Order
of Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge.Funeral services are 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9,
2009, in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with the Rev. Penny Brown
officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is Wednesday from 11 a.m.
to 1 p.m. in the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the
charity of choice in her memory.  
Prince, Barbara Jean    

Barbara Jean Prince, 72, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, in Union
Hospital. She was born on April 12, 1937, in Terre Haute, the daughter of Wendell C.
Fields and Myrtle (Archer) Fields. She married Bill Prince and he survives. Barbara was a
homemaker. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 104 and a
member of React CB Radio Club. Her hobbies included bowling, playing piano, playing
bunko cards, baking wedding cakes crossword puzzles and soap operas. Survivors
include her husband; three children, Jack Prince and wife Cathy of St. Simons Island, Ga.,
Laura Goldner and husband Brad of Terre Haute, and Jeanna Prince of Rockaway Beach,
Mo.; four grandchildren, William Prince and Gillian Prince, both of Georgia, Casey Burns
and husband John and Sammi Goldner, all of Terre Haute; a great-grandson, Mason
William Burns of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by her parents; and two brothers, Jack Fields and Charles Fields.Visitation will be
held on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N.
Clinton St. Services are 7 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Bob Roush officiating.
Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Felker, William W.    

William "Bill" W. Felker, 87, of Terre Haute, passed away Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, in his
residence. He was born on July 27, 1922, in West Terre Haute, the son of William W.
Felker and Mary Elizabeth (Robinson) Felker. He married Ruth DeCamp, and she
survives. Survivors include his wife; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation is noon to
2 p.m. Friday at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with services at 2 p.m. in the
funeral home with Pastor Chris Wilbur officiating. Veterans of Foreign Legion Post 972 will
perform military services at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Willis, Katherine "Katie"    

CLINTON — Katherine "Katie" Willis, of Clinton, passed away at 4:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug.
27, 2009, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born on Nov. 25, 1928, in Clinton, the
daughter of Frank Mazely and Louisia Kochan Mazely who immigrated from Yugoslavia
(Slovenia) in the early 1900s. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers,
John and Louie; and her husband of 49 years, Airet "Whitey" Willis Jr.She is survived by
her children Allen (Jeanette) Willis, Keith (Phyllis) Willis, Nancy Willis and Mark Willis; five
grandchildren, Tina (Daryl), Brian (Amanda), Sarah (Zach), Laura (Eric) and Steven; five
great-grandchildren, Heather, Madison, Brady, Liam and Gavin; a sister, Frances Snider,
cousin Vic Mestek; and several nieces and nephews.Katie retired from South Vermillion
School Corporation in 1996, after 32 years of service. She was a very active member of
her church, the Clinton United Presbyterian Church, serving as the recording treasurer of
the church and treasurer of the Presbyterian Women's Organization for several years,
along with several other capacities in the church. Katie has served as treasurer of
Vermillion County Food Pantry and secretary of Clinton Lioness Club for several years
too. She was a First National Gold Club member, belonged to the Library Discussion
Group and, her heritage being important to her, she stayed a member of the SNPJ
(Slovene National Benefit Society) Lodge 50 all of her life, too. She was an avid bingo
player and loved to spend time and travel with family and friends. Katie touched so many
hearts and will be greatly missed by all.A memorial visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon
prior to the noon memorial services Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Clinton United
Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Mattson officiating. Cremation was chosen and
burial of her ashes will be at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Frist
Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
Clinton United Presbyterian Church.  
Barr, Joseph Lyle   

Joseph Lyle Barr, 84, of Terre Haute, died Sunday evening, Sept. 6, 2009, in Union
Hospital. He was a retired public accountant and educator. He was born Jan. 10, 1925, in
Terre Haute, to Calvin L. Barr and Minnie Orr Barr.Survivors include his wife of 59 years,
Joan Coffel Barr; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Carole Barr; a daughter and
son-in-law, Karen and William V. Smith; three grandsons, Scott Smith and his wife Erin,
Kenneth Smith and Daniel Smith; one great-grandson, Colin Smith; a niece, Shirley
Hochstetler VanRy; and a nephew, Kenneth Hochstetler. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Calvin and Minnie Barr; and his sister, Elsie Barr Hochstetler.Lyle was a 1942
graduate of the former State High School and received his bachelor of science degree in
1948, and his master of science degree in 1962 from Indiana State University.An Army
Veteran of World War II, he served at Buna, Oro Bay, Papua, New Guinea, and Manila in
the Philippines. As an Army reservist, he also served in the first year of the Korean-United
Nations Campaign 1950-1951.Lyle taught school at the former Wiley High School and
Terre Haute South Vigo High School, and also was Adjunct Professor of Business at
Indiana State University. Upon retiring from teaching, Lyle and his wife owned and
operated the Public Accounting Firm of Barr and Associates. He was a member of
Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Finders-Seekers
Class, Sycamore Strummers, American Banjo Fraternity, Terre Haute Sinfonietta, B.P.O.
Elks Lodge 86, Phi Delta Kappa, Wabash Valley Genealogical Society and American
Legion Post 346.Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today, Sept. 10, 2009, in
Memorial United Methodist Church, 2701 Poplar Street, with the Rev. Scott Johnson
officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction

Cronkhite, Cindy L.    

Cindy L. Cronkhite, 44, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, in Terre
Haute Regional Hospital. She was born on March 30, 1965, in Columbus, Ohio, the
daughter of Donald E. McCarty and Donna Lee (Rainey) McCarty. She married Ron
Cronkhite and he survives. Cindy was the assistant manager for Fashion Bug. She was a
member of Caring Center Church of God and also a member of Eternal Cry Ministries. She
was a loving mother, wife and grandmother. Survivors include her husband; three children,
Joshua Cronkhite and wife Brandy, Meagan Cronkhite and fiancé Charlie Butrum, and
Caleb Cronkhite, all of Terre Haute; two grandchildren, Josiah and Malachi Cronkhite; six
siblings, Kevin McCarty and wife Mary of Indianapolis, Brian McCarty and wife Cindy of
Alexandria, Va., Mark Webster and wife Janice and Julie Bergham and husband Bill, all of
Terre Haute, Kathy Heddon and husband Vern of West Terre Haute and Trish Froderman
of Terre Haute; several nieces and nephews; and her mother, Helen Burns, and
stepfather, Ruel Burns Jr., of Florida. She was preceded in death by her biological
parents, Don and Donna McCarty. Visitation will be held Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at
Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with services at 1 p.m. at the funeral home
with Pastor Kent Kester officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Newkirk, John D.    

John D. Newkirk, 76, of Terre Haute, passed away early Wednesday morning, Sept. 9,
2009, in his home. He was born on July 11, 1933, in Clinton, to John and Lillie (Plummer)
Newkirk. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and retired from Eli Lilly, where he worked as a
mechanic for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Martha, who
passed away in 2004; and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by two sons, John
W. Newkirk and Ralph D. Newkirk and wife Melissa, all of Terre Haute; grandchildren,
Dylan and Jacob Newkirk, both of Terre Haute; siblings, Jackie Mautino of Clinton and Tom
McConnell and wife Betty of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. Services will be
at 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Mindy Huffman officiating. Burial will
follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Dicks, Anna Jean   

Anna Jean Dicks, 80, of Terre Haute, died Sunday evening, Sept. 6, 2009, in Terre Haute
Regional Hospital. She had worked as a secretary for Noffke Brothers Marble and Tile
Company until her retirement in 1983. She was born Nov. 7, 1928, in Greene County, Ind.,
to William Thomas Hammond and Geneva Mae Baker Hammond. Survivors include her
husband of 62 years, Johnny P. Dicks; a daughter, Deborah Lee Vandivier and her
husband Sam of Indianapolis; and two grandchildren, Jason William Vandivier and Jennifer
LeAnna Vandivier.Anna Jean was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School and attended
Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 43
years.Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, in Callahan and
Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with the Rev. Steve Bahrt officiating. A Beta
Sigma Phi Ritual service will take place immediately preceding services. Entombment will
be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Friday from 1 to

Parr, Betty Jean   

Betty Jean Parr, 76, of Terre Haute, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, in the Indiana University
Medical Center in Indianapolis. She was born Aug. 21, 1933, in Terre Haute, to Harold and
Pansy Rainbolt. Betty was retired from Computer Control at Columbia House.Survivors
include her husband of 57 years, Robert L. Parr; daughter, Sheri Parr of Fishers; a
granddaughter, Erin Wooton and her husband John of Fishers; and her mother-in-law,
Thelma Parr of Terre Haute. Betty was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the West
Terre Haute Order of Eastern Star, and was Past Guardian of Job's Daughters. Funeral
services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S.
25th Street. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled prior to

Hos, Bryon L.   

Byron L. Hos, 40, passed away peacefully Friday evening, Sept. 11, 2009, at Meadows
Manor East Nursing Home. He was born on Aug. 10, 1969, in Terre Haute. Byron enjoyed
sports, and eating was an enjoyable hobby for him.He is survived by his stepfather, John
Hos and wife Carole of Terre Haute; grandmother, Vera Hos; uncles, Larry Hos and wife
Sandy and daughter, Jamie and son, Jason, and David Hos; aunt, Marilyn Ondermas and
husband Dale and son Garreth Hos; and two cousins, Wade Hos and Michelle
Dickerson.Byron was preceded in death by his mother, Karen King; and his Grandma
Trueblood. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday with Pastor James Gibson
officiating in Roselawn Memorial Park. Roselawn Funeral Home assisted the family in
making arrangements.  
Baird, William J.   

William J. Baird, 87, of Terre Haute, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, in his residence. He was
born Aug. 10, 1922, in Vincennes, to Archie Joseph Baird and Eva Brunner Baird. He
retired as a mechanical engineer for PSI, after 38 years of service.Survivors include his
wife, Virginia Johnson Baird; daughter, Cheryl Baird Grubb and her husband Joseph of
Springfield, Va.; sister, Nellie Van Camp of Apopka, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jason Grubb
and his wife Sally of Tel Aviv, Israel and Joe Grubb and his wife Courtney of
Fredericksburg, Va.; two great-grandsons, Ryan Grubb and Lucas Grubb; and several
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters. Joe was
a member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, IBEW, American Legion Post 104,
and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and
received two Silver Stars. Joe also was a member of Social Lodge 86 Free and Accepted
Masons; Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute; and Zorah Shrine, where he was Potentate in
1985, Legion of Honor, and Shrine Hospital Board Member. Funeral services will be
conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, in Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home,
605 South 25th Street, with the Rev. David Rockhill officiating. A Zorah Shrine memorial
service will be held immediately prior to services. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009.

Bailey, James Franklin   

James Franklin Bailey, 87, of Terre Haute, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009.
He was born on June 6, 1922, in Clifton, to Mack Bailey and Novella (Broyles) Bailey. He
was employed for 32 years at Indiana Gas and Chemical, and Terre Haute Coke and
Carbon.Survivors include his wife, Beverly Cooper Bailey; one son, Tim; two daughters,
Fransetta and Gale, all of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;
and three great-great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Florence Cooper of Terre Haute;
sister-in-law, Georgia Bailey of Terre Haute; special cousin, Vella McAdoo, of Pontiac,
Mich.; very special niece, Christie Roberts of Terre Haute; and very special nephews,
Angelo Cooper III of Terre Haute, Nick, Noah, Nigel and Nate Utley, all of Indianapolis.He
was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Novella Bailey; sister, Ruby Howard; and

DeVito, Norma J.    

FAIR OAKS — Norma J. DeVito, 81, of Rhode Island passed away Monday, Aug. 24, 2009
in the Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, R.I. She was born on Sept. 9, 1927 in Fair Oaks,
Ind. to Cecil Keller and Marie (Bowser) Keller.She retired after 21 years of service as a
secretary for Medical Arts. She loved gardening, her animals and her grandkids. She is
survived by her children, Leo Terrando and wife Karen of Rosedale, Ind., Debra Wheeler
and husband Gary, of Massachusetts, and Jeffery DeVito and wife Martha of South Bend,
Ind.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one niece. She was preceded in
death by her parents; husband, Paul DeVito; and brother, Ano Keller.Visitation will be from
1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday in Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will follow visitation at 3 p.m.
Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Bob Roush officiating. Cremation has been
chosen. Donations in Norma's name may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society.  
Brammer, Winifred Irene North    

Winifred Irene (North) Brammer, 90, of Terre Haute, passed away early Sunday morning,
Sept. 13, 2009, in Royal Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on
Aug. 9, 1919, in Terre Haute, to Alfred William and Ethel (Collison) North.She was a U.S.
Navy veteran who served our country during World War II. She worked at Quaker Maid in
her earlier years and later went on to working as a teacher at Clinton High School, and
later on worked as a substitute teacher for Vigo County School Corporation. She was a
member of Barbour Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was also a Sunday
School teacher.She loved to garden and do yard work. She loved camping and visiting all
the local state parks. She enjoyed hiking all the way up into her late 80s. Winnie was a
volunteered for the Barbour Avenue Food Pantry all the time as well. One thing she

Josephine Ester Fischer Sullivan, 100, of Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday, Sept.
16, 2009 in Union Hospital. Born March 20, 1909 in Terre Haute, she was the daughter of
Florien Fischer and Anna (Nicoli) Fischer. She married William Alexander Sullivan and he
preceded her. Josephine was a housekeeper. She was a member of the Bible Baptist
Church and enjoyed Bingo scratchoff cards. Survivors include two children, Jerry James
Sullivan and wife Patricia of Delaware, and Maureen Ann Grider and husband Robert L.
Grider of Terre Haute; grandchildren, John Sullivan and wife Danette of Virginia, Debbie
Roberts and husband David of Indianapolis, Mike Sullivan and wife Helen of San Diego, of
North Carolina, and Diane York and husband John of Virginia; 18 great-grandchildren; six
great-great-grandchildren, and a sister, Margaret Allard of Florida. Her parents; husband;
son, John Richard "Jack" Sullivan; daughter-in-law, Winifred "Winnie" Sullivan, and sister,
Florine Holmes, preceded her. Roselawn Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. Burial

George Lawrence "Larry" McNabb, 76, of Terre Haute died at 10:30 p.m. Wed. Sept. 16,
2009 at home. He was born June 16, 1933 in Terre Haute to Patrick W. McNabb and
Dortha M. Truttier McNabb.He is survived by wife, Shirley A. Shores McNabb whom he
married Oct. 28, 1978; sons, Michael A. McNabb and wife, Debbie of Terre Haute, R.
Bradley McNabb and wife Cathy of Porter, Ind., R. Steven Hensley and John L. Hensley;
daughters, Patty McClain and husband Michael, Michele Ramey and husband Randy;

McClain and wife Debi, Melissa Jeffers husband Scott, Ryan McClain, Troy Ramey and
wife Angie, Ryan and Eric Bennett all of Terre Haute, Lori Ploessl and husband Craig of
San Antonio, Texas; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Patrick W. McNabb and wife Mary
Ellen, John McNabb and wife Sandy; sister, Sally Johnson.He was preceded in death by
his parents.He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He joined the Navy on July 11,
1950. He received: Korean War Service Metal, two campaign stars, U.N. service ribbon
metal, Asiatic Pacific Metal, and a Combat Action Metal. He was a life member of VFW 972,
a member of American Legion Post 346. He was a member of the USS Gunston Hall,
LSD-5 Association.He was a life long electrician and member of the IBEW 725 of which he
served as business manager for 14 years, during which time the Bloomington jurisdiction
was taken over. He served on the council of industrial relations at Washington D.C. He
was chairman of the steering committee for the NECA-IBEW Welfare trust fund. He was the
originator of the area wide NECA-IBEW personal trust fund.Services are 1 p.m. Saturday
at Mattox Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Brett Wilson officiating. Visitation is from 10
a.m. until service time on Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn
Memorial Park.  
Wodicka, Richard "Dickie-Bird"    

Richard "Dickie-Bird" Wodicka, 91, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday morning, Sept.
17, 2009, in his home with his family by his side. He was born on Sept. 1, 1918, in Mattoon,
Ill., to Edward and Louise (Diedrich) Wodicka Sr.He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran who
served during World War II. He worked as a chemist for Wabash Valley Products
Company. Throughout Dick's life, he and his wife were very active in the Lighthouse
Mission. He loved to paint, and stain glass, as well as, quilting, and making different
cards.Survivors include his loving wife, Imogene (Herring) Wodicka; two children, David
Wodicka and wife Sonya of Lynchburg, Va., and Keith Wodicka of Terre Haute;
grandchildren, Brent Wodicka and wife Lauren, Ross Wodicka, and Reid Wodicka all of
Virginia; a sister, Dorothy Smith; and several nieces and nephews.Dick was preceded in
death by his parents; and two brothers, Edward Wodicka Jr. and Carl Wodicka.Visitation
will be held today, Sept. 19, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Roselawn Funeral Home. Services
are 7 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Teresa Higus officiating. Burial is in Roselawn

Snoddy, Richard L.    

Richard L. Snoddy, 69, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at his
residence. He was born on June 1, 1940, in Terre Haute, to Ebert L. Snoddy and Vada
Morton Snoddy. He was retired from Kroger's at the Meadows and East Wabash location,
after 27 years of service. He was a member of Maplewood Christian Church and a 1958
graduate of Garfield High School.Survivors include his brother, Ronald Snoddy and his
wife Kay of Terre Haute, and their children, Jeff and Janet; a sister, Carolyn Snoddy
Benjamin and her husband Jan of South Carolina, and their children Scott, Julie and Jill;
several great-nieces and nephews; and special friends, Tina Slazen, Jeff Olinger and Bill
Hagg. He also is survived by friends, Shawn Thompson and Jeremy Graft. Funeral
services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St., in Terre
Haute, with visitation Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday.

Lois L. Hess, 83, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Southwood
Nursing Home. Born Nov. 4, 1925, in Terre Haute, she was the daughter of Otis Halt and
Gertrude (Rector) Halt. Survivors include two sons, Mark Sankey and wife Teresa of
Arizona, and Greg Sankey and wife Debbie of Prairie Creek; two grandchildren, Jessie
Sankey and Nathan Sankey, both of Arizona; a twin sister, Doris Bruner of Terre Haute;
and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first
husband, Russell Sankey; her second husband, Edward Hess; one brother and four
sisters. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home 7500 N. Clinton
St. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Don Richard Payne, 80, of Terre Haute, passed away, Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at Union
Hospital, with his family by his side. He was born Nov. 14, 1928, in Terre Haute, to Charles
and Vellie (Leslie) Payne.He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean
more than 50 years, as well as the former president of the union. He was an avid golfer.He
is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Dana Payne and wife Margo, Dawna Christy and
fiancé Larry Clark, all of Terre Haute, and Steve Turpin and wife Jean; grandchildren, Ricky

Don Richard Payne, 80, of Terre Haute, passed away, Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at Union
Payne and wife Lisa of Mishawaka, Matthew Payne and fiancee Mitzi McHenry of Terre
Haute, Ron Turpin and wife Kathy of Fort Wayne, Samantha Turpin of Buffalo Grove, Ill.,
and Nicolas Mazelin of Wabash; a brother, Ronnie K. Payne of Terre Haute; four
great-grandchildren, Madison Turpin, Cameron Turpin, Nathan Sparks, and Brody Sparks;
and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 siblings,

Hamm, Eugene Warner "Gene"   

Eugene "Gene" Warner Hamm, 88, passed peacefully from this life with his family by his
side at 3:29 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2009.He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years,
Wilma; his children, Larry, Becky, Joyce, Ron, Stan and Les; 14 grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Eugena; and his
grandsons, Shawn Michael and Ron, Jr.Gene was a World War II U.S. Army veteran,
serving in warn-torn Germany from 1944 to 1945. He was proud of his service to his
country, as was his family, and of his two careers that followed, the first as an Assistant
Chief Communications Officer for the Indiana State Police from 1946 to 1966, and the
second as a broadcast engineer at Indiana State University from 1967 to 1990.He was an
avid reader who visited the library often and enjoyed a wide variety of books. He also
played the piano, organ, banjo, mandolin, and harmonica. He wrote commentaries and
philosophies about his life and life in general, and many of his letters to the editor were
published in the Terre Haute Tribune. He fulfilled a lifelong dream of self-publishing his
memoirs in 2006. He was also a passionate organic gardener who loved the earth. Many
people in need were blessed by his generosity every year when he gave away the harvest
from his abundant vegetable garden. He reused and recycled long before those phrases
became popular, and he taught his children that littering was a sin against the earth. He
leaves a big hole in the hearts of those who loved him, and he will be missed in many ways
by many people.A celebration of Gene's full and interesting life will be held at a graveside
services at Roselawn Memorial Park on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at noon. His family asks
that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Fraternal Order of Police. Make checks

Ladonna M. Strahla, 76, of Terre Haute, went home to be with her Lord and Savior early
Wednesday morning, Sept. 23, 2009, in her home with her husband at her side. She was
born on April 28, 1933, in Lewis, to Charles H. and Mary M (Criss) Rowe.She retired from
the Vigo County School Corporation, were she worked as a Child Psychologist. She
enjoyed reading and was an avid genealogist. She loved being with her family and taking
care of her grandchildren. She also was a past member of Alpha Delta Kappa, and the
Christian Women's Club at Centenary United Methodist Church in Terre Haute. Ladonna
was very active and with her volunteer work at the Lighthouse Mission, Good Samaritan and
CODA.She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, June McCammon; and a brother
Charles Rowe. She is survived by two daughters, Donna Bown and husband Larry of New
Goshen, and Mary Wells and husband Charles of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren,
Michael Bryan and wife Lacey Lovelady of Terre Haute, Elizabeth Shaw and her companion
Alex Johnson of Indianapolis, Anna Black and husband John of Terre Haute, Lucy Chew of
New Goshen, Stephanie Shaw of Chicago, Andrew Shaw and Emily Wells, both of Terre
Haute; four great-grandchildren, Amelia Black, Wilhelmina Bryan, Elwood Bryan and Alice
Johnson. Other survivors are a sister, Shirley Roseann Hennecke and husband Marvin; a
sister-in-law, Nancy Rowe; and several nieces and nephews.Visitation is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Rozetta M. Allenbaugh Schoffstall Henderson, 85, of Terre Haute, passed away Monday,
Sept. 21, 2009, in Union Hospital. She was born March 15, 1924, in Terre Haute, to Charles
Allenbaugh and Harriet Bolin Allenbaugh. She retired from Quaker Maid and also was a
beautician for many years. She was a graduate of Garfield High School, a member of
Barbour Avenue United Methodist Church, frequently traveled with First Financial Bank's
Gold Club, and also enjoyed traveling with her family.She was preceded in death by her
parents; her husbands, Phillip W. Schoffstall in 1964 and Robert H. Henderson in 2005; her
sister, Maurine Allenbaugh; three brothers, Lloyd Allenbaugh, Raymond Allenbaugh and
Charles V. Allenbaugh Jr. Survivors include her son, Phillip Schoffstall and his wife Kate of
Bolingbrook, Ill.; her brother, Frank L. Allenbaugh of Reelsville; one grandson, Omar
Schoffstall of Indianapolis; one granddaughter, Heidi Brinkman and her husband Josh of
Brookfield, Ill.; a great-granddaughter, Lilly Brinkman; two cousins, Norma Draffone of Terre
Haute and Duane Allenbaugh of Mattoon, Ill. and several nieces and nephews.Services are

Jane Jenkins, 91, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Union Hospital.
She was born June 9, 1918, in Bedford, to Grover Marley and Georgia Fields Marley. She
was a 1936 graduate of Garfield High School, and a homemaker. She was a member of
Maple Avenue United Methodist Church. After suffering tragic injuries from a fall on Sept.
15, she continued to show strength and dedication to her family in her dying hours — just
as she had always done in life. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,
Roy Jenkins in 1991; her son, Robert Roy Jenkins; and her sister, Marjorie C. Davis.She is
survived by her daughter, Georgia Jenkins McIntyre and husband Jerry of Terre Haute;
three grandchildren, Julie Plasse and husband John, and Jennifer Brown, all of Terre Haute,
and Robert Jenkins and wife Crystal of North Carolina; and six great-grandchildren, Ryan
Plasse, Bryttany Morris, Jaden Brown, Kyleigh Brown, Kaliegh Brown and Dylaney Plasse.
Graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at Roselawn Memorial Park, with

Donna Jo Kraemer Johnson, 51, of Terre Haute, died at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, in
Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born on Sept. 6, 1958, in Clinton, to Donald
Kraemer and Rebecca Willis Kraemer. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her
husband, Robert Johnson, whom she married in 1999; her parents; three sons, Keith
Sollars and wife Crystal of Marshall, Ill., Jerry Owen Jr. and Joseph Hall, both of Terre Haute;
her daughter, Beth Clark and husband Matt of Terre Haute; two brothers, Tim Kraemer and
Eric Kraemer, both of Terre Haute; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and
aunts and uncles. Visitation is 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, in Greiner Funeral

Willig, Nancy Ann Willis    

The light in the world grew a little dimmer as the soul of Nancy Ann Willis Willig passed into
the loving arms of her Savior on Sept. 25, 2009. She was born May 28, 1932, in
Bloomington, Ill., the only child of Carroll Willis and Nellie Poleski Willis Boldon. In 1957, she
moved with her husband and children to Terre Haute, Ind., where she lived until the
present.Her parents preceded her in death.She will be missed with deep sadness by her
loving husband of 57 years, Allan Willig and their children, Brian and Kelly Willig and Robin
and Tom Wampler of West Terre Haute, Jeanette Bowers of Terre Haute, Brad and Sue
Willig of Plainfield, and Bonnie and Ralph Lee of Madison, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; two
great-grandsons; and her cousins, Virgil Willis and Nancy Herrell of Bloomington, Ill.Nancy
spent her life as a loving daughter, devoted wife and mother, homemaker, gardener and
bookkeeper. She was a member of Welcome Club of Terre Haute, and served in several
capacities including past president, Advisor, and Committee Member. She co-founded
All-Tran Transmission Service, Trucks Inc. and T-N-T Leasing corp., serving on their Board
of Directors and in general management until her retirement in 1995. Nancy was a devout
member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Clinton.Donations to Catholic Charities of Terre

Blackwell, Lois Irene   

Lois Irene Blackwell, 78, of West Lafayette, Ind., died at 1:32 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009
at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus in West Lafayette. She was formerly of Terre Haute.
She was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Terre Haute, Ind., to the late James R. and Mary Wright
Hoke. On Sept. 26, 1950 she married Walton Eugene Blackwell in Terre Haute and he
survives. Lois had worked at Tulips, Bemis Bags, and had owned Blackwell Hobbies while in
Terre Haute. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, crocheting and spending time with her
grandchildren.Surviving along with the spouse are a daughter, Vicki Schmidt (husband
Thomas) of West Lafayette; a son, Gene Blackwell of Bloomington, Ind.; two sisters, May
Norman (husband Jack) of Tuscola, Ill. and Jennie Gregory of Terre Haute. Also surviving
are three grandchildren, Jesse (wife Melissa), Tiffani, and Chris; and a great-grandchild,
Landen Schmidt.Lois was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Ann Blackwell; three
sisters and three brothers.Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Memorial

Jim R. Myers, 70, of Terre Haute, died at 1:20 p.m., Friday, Sept. 25, 2009. He was born on
April 29, 1939, in Elnora, to Paul R. Myers and Mildred Stringer Myers.Survivors include his
wife, Marcia Marvel Myers, whom he married on July, 29, 1966; sons, Bert R. Myers and his
wife Michelle and Paul D. Myers and his wife Kristen; daughter, Margaret F. Myers; sister,
LuAnn M. Pitcher, sisters-in-law, Carol A. Eslinger and husband James, and Mary L. Marvel;
grandsons, Samuel J. Myers and Noah E. Myers; and several nephews, nieces, cousins and
friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Judith M. Neihart. Jim life's
work was in the field of agriculture, as he retired from the Ulysses Co-op in 2004. He was a
member of the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses, Kan., for many years, a current
member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church of Terre Haute, he served on the Board
of Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses, and a previous member of the Banks of the
Wabash Chorus. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at
Maple Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Rockhill officiating. Visitation will
be at 10 a.m. until the service begins. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may
be made to Maple Avenue United Methodist Church Building Fund in Terre Haute.
