Julia Roberts Williams   

Julia Roberts Williams entered into Heaven’s gates on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, from
Meadows Manor North Convalescent Center. Julia was born to Vern Roberts and Jessie
Dodson Roberts on Feb. 6, 1913, in Vigo County. She married Harold Williams on July 31,
1933, and he preceded her in death in 1985. Following Harold’s duty during World War II
they returned to Terre Haute and owned and operated the Williams Variety Store in 12
Points for many years. They retired to Ft. Myers, Fla. where they enjoyed many friends,
boating and a good game of golf. Julia returned to Terre Haute in July of 2003 to
reconnect with friends and family.Survivors include four nieces, Shirley Johnson of Las
Cruces, N.M., Barbara Martin of Tulsa, Okla., Carolyn Thorne and Judy Torbert of Terre
Haute; one nephew, Don Thompson of Terre Haute and also many great-nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Roberts; two sisters, Frances
Thompson and Betty Fulton; and her parents. Julia was a fun person to all who knew her
and delighted in all her “kids” as she called them but were actually nieces and nephews.
She was a 50-year member of Daughters of the Nile, Badoura Temple 23. She loved
boating and especially trips to the beaches of South Carolina and Florida. Services are 3
p.m. Sunday at Roselawn Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Jeffers officiating. Visitation is 5
to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Gibson, Ellen I. Holscher    

Ellen I. Holscher Gibson, 85, of Terre Haute. died at midnight, Feb. 26, 2009, at Meadows
Manor East. She was born in Vigo County, on March 5, 1923, to Alonzo Holscher and Edith
Spittler Holscher. She was a homemaker. She attended Faith Baptist Church. She married
John Gibson on Oct. 17, 1947, and he preceded her in death on April 29, 1990. She is
survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Norman Hayworth of Iowa, and
Edith and Larry Shinn of West Virginia; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James and Linda
Gibson of Terre Haute; 10 grandchildren, Tamera Marlow, Robert McCammon, Greg
McCammon, Kari Thomas, Theresea Hicks, Kathleen Reisner, Mark Gibson, Peter Gibson,
Paul Gibson, and William Bartlett Jr.; and several great-grandchildren. She also was
preceded in death by a son, Bill Bartlett; and a granddaughter, Angela McKissack. Funeral
services are 1 p.m. Monday at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with the
Rev. Richard Swan officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 11 a.m.
until services Monday.  
Cox, Paul E.    

Paul E. Cox died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, in Union Hospital. He was born Nov. 25, 1927,
in Fontanet, to Paul Elijah Cox and Essie Thelma Runnels Cox. He was retired from the
Postal Service after 32 years, 15 of which he was Postmaster of Fontanet. He also worked
as state permits inspector for the Indiana State Highway.He is survived by his wife, Joan R.
Cox; two daughters, Kathy Seeley and fiancé Donald Bradbury of Terre Haute, Dianne
Reeves and husband Louis of Terre Haute; two sons, Paul E. Cox Jr. and wife Renee, John
R. Cox and wife Belinda, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Kenneth A. Cox of Terre
Haute; 14 grandchildren, Cora E. Burns, Bradley Hendrix, Brandy Myers, Paul E. Cox III,
Louis A. Reeves, Sean Reeves, Kyle Seeley, Glenn Cox, Jordan, Deborah, Erin and
Michael Cox, Terri and Ashley Bradshaw; and six great-grandchildren, Michael Burns,
Alexander Myers, Aiden and Isaac Cox, Riley Myers and Oliver Hendrix.He was preceded in
death by his parents; and two brothers, Donald and Richard Cox.Paul loved gardening,
fishing and time with family. He was the Past Holder of the Terre Haute Post Office Credit
Union for eight years. He was a former member and officer of the Bassorama fishing
organization. He loved socializing with people. He was a longtime member of United
Commercial Travelers of America, of which he was Past Grand Counselor, Past Grand
Secretary Member, Past Grand Secretary-Treasurer member, AMOB, Illinois-Indiana and
Secretary-Treasurer Association of US. He was a active member for 40 years in the
Masonic Lodge. He was past master of Social Lodge 86, past member of Past Masters,
past patron of Order of Eastern Star, member of Rosedale American Legion Post 290, and
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Mattox-Wood Funeral
Home, 4660 N. Lafayette Ave., with the Rev. Bill Herb officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn
Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m.  
Paul Cox
Layman, Charlene    

Charlene Layman, 62, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Royal Oaks
Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Jan. 20, 1946, to Donald H. Layman
and Ellen Whippo Layman.She is survived by siblings, Janice Stutson of Williams, Miss,
Donald E. Layman and wife Judith of Arlington, Va., Paulette Anderson and husband John
of New Martinsville, W.Va., Phyllis White, Alan Layman and wife Karen, all of Terre Haute;
13 nieces and nephews; 12 great-nieces and great-nephews; and several aunts, uncles,
and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a member of the Red
Hat Society, she loved playing bingo, dancing, and karaoke.Services are 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7550 N. Clinton St., with Chaplain Russell
officiating. Visitation is 1 p.m. until services Wednesday. Graveside services are 2 p.m.
Wednesday at Roselawn Memorial Park.  
McCallister, John W.   

John W. McCallister, age 79, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday evening, March 1,
2009, at Union Hospital. Born July 31, 1929, in Terre Haute, he was the son of John W.
McCallister and Sarah Owens McCallister. In 1953 he married Dorothy Ralston, and she
survives. John was a truck driver for Eastern Express and also for Ryder Trucking. He
served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Local 135 Teamsters Union, and he attended
King’s Harvest Foursquare Church. His hobbies included fishing and yard sales. Survivors
in addition to his wife include five children, John W. McCallister III and wife Susan of Pine
Village, Ronnie W. McCallister and wife Cheryl of Evansville, Thomas A. McCallister and
wife Stacey of Terre Haute, Donald D. McCallister and wife Karen of Evansville, and
Cynthia L. Cook and husband Tracy of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Emily Arth and
husband Tim of Bloomington, Joanna McCallister of Indianapolis, Eric McCallister of
Evansville, Anna McCallister of Springfield, Ill., Ashley McCallister of Terre Haute, Melissa
Stuteville, Kara Stuteville, and Amanda Stuteville, all of Evansville, Bailey Benko, Stephanie
Benko, and Evan Benko, all Terre Haute; three great-grandchildren, Bryli McCallister, and
Hayden Stuteville, both Evansville, and Shane Walton of Terre Haute; a sister, Inez Bedford
of Terre Haute; and a sister-in-law, June Black of Terre Haute. His parents; a sister, Betty
Sartain; brother, Charles McCallister; sister, Olga Bedford; brother, Ralph Black; and
grandson, Phillip McCallister, all preceded him in death.Visitation will be Wednesday from 4
to 8 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7550 N. Clinton St., and also from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Thursday at Cross Tabernacle Church. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at the church, with

Felts, Anthony B. "Tony"   

Anthony B. “Tony” Felts, 55, of Bloomington, and formerly of Terre Haute, died Monday,
March 2, 2009, at his residence. He has battled throat cancer since May 2008. He was born
Dec. 23, 1953, in Anderson, to Fredrick D. Felts and Jean Matlock Felts. He was an
electrical engineer at Crane for more than 20 years.Survivors include his wife, Karen McGill
Felts; his brother, Frederick D. Felts and long time companion Jeanette Day, of Ireland,
Ind.; a sister-in-law, Kandee McGill Turner of Fishers; and three nieces, Tara Turner, Kylie
Turner and Anya Turner, all of Fishers. He was preceded in death by his parents. He
earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mathematics from Indiana State
University, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology. He was a member of Bloomington American Legion Post 18. He enjoyed
cooking and wildlife, and was a father to many birds. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at
Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene and Harrell Chapel, 700 Gourley Pike, in Bloomington.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Burial is 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Roselawn
Memorial Park in Terre Haute. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Bloomington Hospital
for their help.  
Frazier, Dr. Melvin E. "Tony"   

Dr. Melvin E. “Tony” Frazier, 85, of Terre Haute died Thursday, March 5, 2009, in Union
Hospital. He was formerly a professor at Indiana State University. He was born Aug. 2, 1923
in Alexandria, Ind., to James W. Frazier and Lena Milburn Frazier.Survivors include his
daughter, Lynn Douglas and her husband, Tim of Terre Haute; a brother, J. Lawrence
Frazier and his wife, June of Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; a grandson, Ben Douglas and his wife
Kylie of Terre Haute; a great-grandson, Lincoln Douglas of Terre Haute; and several
nieces, nephews and cousins. His wife of 31 years, Cenia Gene Summers Frazier; his
parents, and a sister, Helen Frazier preceded him in death.Tony graduated from Alexandria
High School, then attended Indiana University and was a member of the marching band. He
married in 1946 to Cenia G. (Peggy) Summers and began married life farming the family
homestead in Madison County. Tony went back to college, eventually receiving his bachelor’
s, master’s and doctoral degrees in education from Ball State University in the late ’50s and
early ’60s. He taught at the elementary school level in Anderson City School System before
accepting a position in the Elementary Education Department at Indiana State University in
1967. At ISU, he supervised elementary student teachers and also served as director of
elementary student teaching, eventually retiring in 1989. He was an active member and
past president of the Wabash Valley Amateur Radio Club, which helped provide
communications for numerous marathons and triathlons. Tony enjoyed traveling and took
numerous trips with his family and Turner Travel. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and listening
to Country and Western Music and the Grand Ole Opry. Among activities he enjoyed in
retirement were “The Good Ole Boys” men’s group from Memorial United Methodist Church,
and the Exchange Club of Terre Haute. He cherished his friendships and the camaraderie
of these groups. Tony had been a loyal supporter of ISU and Terre Haute North basketball
for years. Tony also served as the back door greeter every Sunday at Memorial United
Methodist Church.Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2009, in
Memorial United Methodist Church, 2701 Poplar St., with the Rev. Scott Johnson, the Rev.
Jill Howard and the Rev. Abe Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Visitation is scheduled today from 3 to 7 p.m. in the church. Arrangements are under the
direction of Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St. The family kindly requests

Greenlee, Beulah M. Eldridge   

Beulah M. Eldridge Greenlee, 90, of Terre Haute, died at 8:40 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009,
at Emerald House in Washington, Ind. She was a homemaker and former restaurant owner.
She was born Dec. 19, 1918, in Fairbanks, to William Eldridge and Letha (Pierce) Eldridge.
She is survived by a son, Guy “Butch” Greenlee of Washington; a daughter, Donna
Greenlee of Wilmington, Del.; a brother, Robert Eldridge of Terre Haute; two sisters, Danny
Bailey and Betsy Wallace, both of Terre Haute; and two granddaughters, Nichole Greenlee
and Sarah Greenlee. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Guy Edward
Greenlee Sr., in 1986; and brothers and sisters, Thurl Eldridge, Gladys Boyll, Cleo Loyed,
Junior Eldridge, Lucy Santus, Ruby Morley, Orville Eldridge, Ovie Eldridge, and Earl
Eldridge. Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2009, at DeBaun Springhill
Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive., with the Rev. Steve Dayton officiating. Burial will be in
Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that

Reed, James L.    

CLINTON — James L. Reed, 81, of Clinton, formerly of Rockville, passed away Monday,
Feb. 9, 2009, at the Waters of Clinton Nursing Home. He was born Feb. 25, 1927, in
Indianapolis, to Clarence and Martha Perry Reed. He retired from Eli Lilly in 1989, where he
worked as a pipefitter.Survivors include his wife, Juanita, whom he married July 9, 1949;
children, Roger Reed and wife Laura of Tennessee, Randy Reed and wife Sharon of
Rockville, and Rhonda Buress and husband Joe of Lyford; a daughter-in-law, Jo Anna
Bales of Clinton; grandchildren, Beth Reed of Greenwood, Andy Reed of Denver, Randy
Reed Jr. and wife Patty of Marshall, Ind., Jonathan James Reed and wife Angie of
Bainbridge, Robin Attkisson and husband Bob of Avon, Michael Rennick and wife Theresa
of Clinton, Jeff Reed and fiancée Alissa, Andrea Reed and Daniel Reed, all of Clinton; 16
great-grandchildren; siblings, Jack, Mary, Anna, Sara Jean, Carl, and Millie. He was
preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ross Alan Reed; infant daughter, Robin Reed;
and brothers, Mel, Clarence Reed Jr., and Raymond.He was a U.S. Navy veteran who
served during World War II. He was a former Free and Accepted Mason, and member of
Fraternal Order of the Moose Lodge. James loved to read, fish and mow his grass. Services
will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., in Terre Haute.
Visitation is 1 p.m. until services Thursday. Cremation will follow. Family requests no flowers
be sent. Donations can be made to Mecca Weslyan Church in James name.  
Tate, Lena Beth    

DANA — Lena Beth Tate, 86, of Dana, died at 1:32 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, at West
Central Community Hospital in Clinton. She was a homemaker. She was born June 18,
1922, in Lyons, to Noah Goodman and Lydia Brown Goodman.Survivors include her
husband of 69 years, Francis G. Tate, whom she married April 3, 1939, in Greene County;
five sons, Ronald Arthur (Karen) Tate of Cincinnati, Jack Tate of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.,
Donald (Lisa) Tate of Indianapolis, Timothy (Mary) Tate of Fishers, William (Eileen) Tate of
Winston-Salem, N.C.; two daughters, Sue (Carl) Seyfert of Dana, and Lynne (Darrell)
Higham of Terre Haute; 21 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by her parents; four sons, Gary Lee, James Robert, Bus, and Dennis Tate; and two
brothers, Alford and Don Goodman. She was a member of Northside Church of Christ in
Terre Haute. She loved camping, and traveling with a travel trailer, and she was active with
Good Sam’s Club. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Overpeck-Gooch
Funeral Home, 225 Maple St., in Dana, with Brother Robert Hawkins officiating. Burial will
follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the
funeral home.  
Nyers, Lucille    

Lucille Nyers, 97, of Terre Haute, passed away at 10:19 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, at
Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born Dec. 2, 1911, in Shelburn, to Everett
Wilkinson and Ethel Annis Wilkinson. She worked at Parks Purity Pies for many years before
its closing, and later retired from Columbia Records. She married Stephen Nyers on Nov. 3,
1935, and he preceded her in death in 1979. She also was preceded in death by one
brother, Ray Wilkinson; five sisters, Thelma Archer, Vyrl Lynch, Delta Frazier, Gladys
Peperak, and Dolly Jones; and one nephew, Donald Peperak. She is survived by one
brother, Ivan Wilkinson; nieces, Betty Moore Heck, Michelle Cripe, Deborah Jones, Darlene
Rankin, Sharon Wilson, Phyllis Peperak, Lenny Sharper, Marjorie Jones, and Helen Royal;
one nephew, Mark Wilkinson; several great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as many
special friends. Her family was very special to her and she will be missed by them. She loved
going to functions with the Hungarian Club, and never missed an Indianapolis 500 mile race
until the last few years. She attended Berean Baptist Church. Funeral services are 1 p.m.
Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with
Pastor Larry Lilly officiating. Burial is at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m.

Sluder, Basil Lee   

Basil Lee Sluder, 80, of Terre Haute, went to live with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on
Monday, March 9, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 6, 1928, in
Sullivan County, to John and Beatrice Brummett Sluder. His lifelong career was in the metal
building industry, beginning with Stran Steel Corporation. He is survived by Alma
Bumgardner Sluder, his wife and high school sweetheart of 61 years; his daughters, Rene'
Adamson of Terre Haute, Dawn Adamson and husband Randy of Birmingham, Ala., and
Holly Ross and husband David of Shelbyville; sister, Myrna Power; brother, Joe Sluder;
seven grandchildren, Ryan and Brandon Adamson, Erin, Benjamin, and Daniel Adamson,
Caleb and Jacob Ross,; and two great-granddaughters; several in-laws; and several nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gwen Tomey; and a
brother, Bill Sluder.Basil served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was an active
member of Maplewood Christian Church, where he served as an elder, teacher, board
member and trustee.Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E.
Springhill Drive, with Pastor Craig Wineinger officiating. Burial is at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Henderson, Margaret Elizabeth    

Margaret Elizabeth Henderson, 102, of Terre Haute, passed away March 3, 2009, at the
Meadows Manor North. She was born June 15, 1906, in Carbon, Ind. She was the daughter
of Burl and Elizabeth (Haxton) Spurr. She married James A. Henderson on June 2, 1926,
and he preceded her in 1976. Margaret was a homemaker. She was a member of the
Methodist Church and her hobbies included yard work and reading. Survivors include three
sons, Bill Henderson and wife Arlene of Jacksonville, Fla., David Jack Henderson and wife
Susan of Cloverdale and Ray Henderson and wife Martha of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter,
Carol Mann of Terre Haute; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, six
great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman Spurr and wife Betty of Westville, Ind.; a
sister, Ruth Byers and husband Raymond of Council Bluffs, Iowa and several nieces and
nephews. Her parents; a son, James Henderson Jr., son-in-law, Bernard Mann;
daughters-in-law, Jeanne and Wilma Henderson; a sister, Jeanette Drake and three
brothers, Alexander (Zany), Thomas and Raymond Spurr all preceded her in death.
Cremation took place and a memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Eighth
Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Dick Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn
Memorial Park. The Roselawn Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.  
Smith Jr., Merril    

KLONDYKE — Merril Smith Jr. (Butch Sekerak), 66, of Klondyke died at 2:30 a.m.
Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at West Central Community Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born Jan. 27, 1943, in Paintsville, Ky. to Merril Smith Sr. and Augusta Billiter Smith.
Adoptive parents were Andrew and Helen Sekerak. He was a retired iron worker out of Local
439 and he was an Army veteran. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 6653 and the
American Legion Post 108 at St. Bernice. He was preceded in death by his parents and one
brother, Jerry Sekerak. Survivors include his wife, Janet Mae Barushak, whom he married,
Jan. 27, 1964, in Universal, Ind.; one son, Andrew Smith and wife Sharon of Clinton; three
daughters, Susan Cramer and husband Steve of New Goshen, Ind. Joy Beaty and husband
Dennis of Clinton, Jeri Plew and husband Terry of Terre Haute; one brother, Charles
Michael Sekerak and wife Lillie of Marshall, Ill.; one sister, Tana Kay Olinger and husband
Donald of New Goshen, Ind.; grandchildren, Amanda, Beth, Ryan and Drew Smith and
Bradley Wilcox, Joshua Cramer, Harley and Cole Beaty, John Smith Jr., Joseph and Toni
Sue Plew; great-grandchildren, Noah Emery, Mason Wilcox and Rilee Cramer and several
nieces and nephews. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Frist Funeral Home with Father
Joseph Villa officiating. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will follow
services in Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute with military rites conducted by V.F.W.
Post 6653 and American Legion.  
Rouse, Evelyn E. Hubbard Stanley    

Evelyn E. Hubbard Stanley Rouse, 79, of Terre Haute, Ind. passed away Tuesday, March 10,
2009, in Union Hospital. She was the daughter of Charlie and Ida Mae Hubbard born on Oct.
18, 1929, in Modoc, W. Va. Nicknamed "Sister" by her family, she was a true coalminers
Stanley, and Deborah L. Scott and her husband Paul A. Scott Jr. of Georgetown, Ky.;
granddaughters, Amy Lindsey and husband Brent of Clinton, Kristina Matherly and fiancé
Ricardo Hutchins and Lesley Jo Stanley all of Terre Haute; grandsons, Paul A. Scott III of
Georgetown, Ky. and Tristian Stanley of Terre Haute. Also surviving are great-grandchildren,
Macie Matherly of Avon and Preslee and Sophie Lindsey of Clinton.She was preceded in
death by her parents and a brother, James H. Hubbard.Evelyn was a former employee of
Union Hospital, Meadows Manor Nursing Home and Indiana State University.Services are at
11 a.m. Saturday in Roselawn Funeral Home, with Brother Abe Miller officiating. Visitation will
be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Entombment will follow services in Roselawn
Memorial Park's Chapel of Memories.  
Munyon, Emmett E.   

Emmett E. Munyon of Fontanet died March 11, 2009, in Union Hospital. He was born July 23,
1930, at Morris, Ill. the son of Earl Munyon and Clara Pfaff Munyon. He worked as an
electrician for Columbia Records and Indiana State University where he retired. He was a
Marine veteran. He was an avid animal lover and ham radio operator.He is survived by a
daughter, Marguerite White and husband Victor; stepdaughters, Kim Lawrence and husband
Jim and Kelly Hoke and husband Rick Toney; three sons, Richard Munyon, Robert Munyon
and wife Debra and Thomas Munyon and wife Ida; one sister, Yvonne Rosenberg and
husband Howard; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and
Lawrence; three sisters, Margaret Turner, Earline Perush and Doris Troom and two brothers,
Wayne and Thomas Munyon.Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home with

Walter H. O'Neill Jr., 84, of Terre Haute, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Union Hospital. He
was born March 15, 1925, in Terre Haute, to Walter H. O'Neill Sr. and Edna Swindle O'Neill.
He retired from Alcan. Survivors include his wife, Lois Ripple O'Neill; two daughters, Claudia
Martin and husband David, and Vanessa O'Neill; a sister, Martha Pine; two grandchildren,
Adam and Chris; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Daisy B. Kirby O'Neill; and two sisters, Beth
and Ruth.He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and was a member of Krietenstein Post
104 American Legion, and North Terre Haute Christian Church.Services are 1 p.m. today at
Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette Ave., with Larry Scott officiating. Burial is at
Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services.  
McCullough, Nelva Mae   

Nelva Mae McCullough, 95, of Terre Haute died at 5:59 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009, at
Union Hospital. She was born in West Terre Haute, on July 31, 1913, to Thomas V. Crawley
and Anna (Scott) Crawley. She retired in 1979 from the former Root's Department Store. Her
husband, Russel B. McCullough, preceded her in death in 1991. She was a member of Rio
Grande Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, James D. McCullough and his wife Opal I.
McCullough of Terre Haute, a daughter, Betty Sizemore of Orange Park, Fla.; nine
grandchildren: James D. McCullough Jr. and wife Marcia of Hillsdale, Dennis McCullough and
wife Cathy of Medina, Tenn., Darrell McCullough and companion Dawn, Brenda Gayso and
husband Joe of Terre Haute, Dwayne McCullough and wife Jaye of Haubstadt, Mark Nacke
and wife Leslie of Greenwood, Mike Nacke and wife Tina of Plainfield, Melinda Clark and
husband Todd of Terre Haute, and Michelle Jacobs of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; 19
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by
her sister, Genevieve Scott. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, at DeBaun Springhill
Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with Pastors Julie Lake and Allen McQueen officiating. Burial
will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.  
Dwyer, Margaret Ann Roth   

Margaret Ann Roth Dwyer, 84, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday,
March 11, 2009, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She retired from the Sisters of Providence
at St. Mary-of-the-Woods, after 25 years of service. She was born June 1, 1924, in Terre
Haute, to Harry Roth and Margaret Fitzgibbons Roth. Her husband, Urmal J. Dwyer Sr., whom
she married Jan. 10, 1948, preceded her in death Feb. 7, 2000. Survivors include a son, Jeff
Dwyer of West Terre Haute; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Dwyer; grandchildren, Chad Dwyer
(Kris), Suzanne Dwyer (Justin), Jason Fields (Dustie), Heather Dwyer (Tom Waltrip), Preston
Dwyer (Ashley), Katie Dwyer, Missy Powell, Mike Dwyer (Marty), Andy Dwyer (Angie), Cindy
Dwyer, Jeffrey Dwyer, and Ashley Kernstein; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law,
Alberta Roth, Dorothy Mae Roth, and Eileen (Don) Quinn; and several nieces and nephews
including, Margaret Harris and Anna Ruth Lydick. She also was preceded in death by two
sons, Max Dwyer and Urmal J. "Bud" Dwyer; eight brothers, Bernard and George Roth, Harry
Roth Jr., Robert, Jack, Russell, Scott, and Merlin Roth; and three sisters, Fredia Biggins, Mae
VonKannon, and Rosemary Givens.She was a former member of American Legion Post 501
Ladies Auxiliary. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St.,
in West Terre Haute, with Brother Bill Cain officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial

Hinesley Sr., Larry A.    

Larry A. Hinesley Sr., 62, of Terre Haute, passed away March 14, 2009, in Union Hospital. He
was born Dec. 22, 1946, in Terre Haute, the son of A. Jack Hinesley and Hazel Marie (Barbee)
Hinesley. He married Dody Jo Stanton and she survives. Larry was a mechanic, owning
Hinesleys Garage. He had attended the West Terre Haute First Baptist Church. He loved
spending time with his family most. Other hobbies included fishing, story telling, the
Indianapolis Colts, and Bobby Knight. He also enjoyed his faithful dogs, Buck and Chesney.
His survivors includes his wife of 23 years; children, Angela Walker and husband Jeff, Jenna
Marie Hinesley and companion Dustin Hall, Larry Hinesley Jr. and companion Amy Gilley,
Richard Hinesley and Jonathan Alan Hinesley, all of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Bryan Bixler
and companion Nickie of Terre Haute, Ryan Bixler and companion Sarah of Colorado, Sarah
Bixler and Kent Douglas Hinesley both of Terre Haute; a great-granddaughter, Ariana Bixler of
Colorado; two brothers, Fred Hinesley and wife Brenda of Bradenton, Fla., and Don Hinesley
of Brazil; three sisters, Janet Hiddle and husband Gary of New Goshen, Judy Pittsenbarger
and husband Kenny, and Karen Boes and husband Benny all of Brazil; special cousin, Betty
Shaw and husband Fred of Terre Haute; and several nieces, nephews and extended cousins.

Pauline Eileen Winn Degler, 95, of Terre Haute died on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at
Southwood Nursing and Rehab Center. She retired from Union Hospital after 16 years as an
OB Tech. She was born April 2, 1913, in Coal Bluff, to Oscar and Essie Winn. Survivors
include three daughters, Pauline Bell, Barbara Rooksberry, and Lynn Degler all of Terre
Haute; grandchildren, Paula (Rod) Ellis; Kevin (Wanda) Bell of Terre Haute; Kathy (Don)
Phillips of Kulpmont, Pa.; Brian Bell (Theresa Silvers); James H. (Beverly) Rooksberry, Robert

Terre Haute. She was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Laureate Iota Chapter, past
member of Learn-a-Lot Home Extension Club, member of the Candle Lighters Home Extension
Club and 50-plus-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 43, past Worthy Matron.
She loved to travel, gardening and crocheting. She attended Camp Bluebird and the LIFE
cancer support group. Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel
with the Rev. Joe Dayhuff officiating. Visitation is 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral
home. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to

LYFORD — Marjorie M. Nolan, 86, of Lyford, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, March 19,
2009, in Meadows Manor North in Terre Haute. She was born May 16, 1922, in Vermillion
County, Indiana the daughter of Frank Houser and Eva Halter Houser. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband, Arthur Nolan Sr.; a son, Arthur Nolan Jr. and a granddaughter, Angela
Nolan.She is survived by two sons, Dale Nolan of Clinton and Rodney Nolan of Lyford; two
daughters, Shirley Hills of Indianapolis and Naomi Scott of Terre Haute; 12 grandchildren and
several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 1 p.m.
Saturday at Frist Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Coombes officiating. Visitation is noon until
services Saturday. Burial will follow services in Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute.  
Ferando, John Derek    

John Derek Ferando, 41, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2009, at his
residence. Born Nov. 2, 1967, in Terre Haute, he was the son of John P. Ferando and Nancy D.
Campbell. He married Michele Rena Cain, and she survives. Derek served in the U.S. Navy
Reserves, and had worked as a steamfitter and welder. He built race cars for Mark Spires Race
Cars. His hobbies included welding, his cats and fish, baseball and reading. He collected
baseball cards and coins.Survivors include his wife; mother, Dr. Nancy D. Campbell of
Indianapolis; father, John P. Ferando and wife Susan of Terre Haute; daughter, Francesca
Ferando of Terre Haute; stepchildren, Marlena Pohlman and Katie Davis, both of Terre Haute,
two stepgrandchildren, Teddy Pohlman and Elizabeth Pohlman, both of Terre Haute; a half
brother, Ryan Ferando and wife Krista of Terre Haute; grandfathers, Johnie Ferando and
Charles Campbell, both of Clinton; an Aunt Phyllis Moore and husband Richard of Clinton; and
Uncle John Campbell, of Florida; a cousin, Missi McVeigh and husband Steve of Clinton; and
several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Margaret
Campbell.Graveside services are 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Memorial Park, with Pastor
Vince McFarland officiating. Visitation is Tuesday from 2 to 2:30 p.m., at Roselawn Funeral

Pound, Louise F.   

Louise F. Pound, 94, of Terre Haute died Thursday afternoon, March 19, 2009, in Terre Haute
Regional Hospital. She was a retired professor from Indiana State University, where she taught
physical education for 32 years. She was born May 22, 1914, in Vigo County, to William Pound
and Maude Taylor Pound.Survivors include a niece, Rita Pound of Terre Haute; several
great-nieces and great-nephews; and two special friends, Mildred Lemen and Ferne Price, both
of Terre Haute. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Pound and Loren Pound;
and a sister, Frances Brown.Louise was a graduate of Blackhawk High School and Indiana
State University, where she received her bachelor's degree. She attended the University of
Iowa, where she received her masters degree, and also studied at the University of Colorado at
Boulder. She was a member of the Indiana State University Alumni Association and St.
Stephen's Episcopal Church. Louise was honored with three distinguished awards during her
career; the 1972 ISU Caleb Mills Outstanding Teacher Award, the Honor Award of the Indiana
Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and the Eleanor St. John
Outstanding Alumni Award.Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2009, in
Roselawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. William Riedel officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn

Thorlton, Margaret Kathryne Burk    

Margaret Kathryne (Burk) Thorlton went home to the Lord on March 21, 2009, while a resident
at Glenburn Home in Linton, Ind. She was born Dec. 24, 1928, in Terre Haute to Gray and
Kathryne (DePlanty) Burk. She married Wayne Thorlton in 1947 and he preceded her in 2008.
1960, she and Wayne moved to Martinsville, Ind., then to Milwaukee, Wis., before returning to
Martinsville in 1971 where they remained for several years. In later years as failing health
became an issue, they moved to Linton to be near their son Dan. She was an active member of
the Martinsville Presbyterian Church. She and Wayne enjoyed many extended vacations to Gulf
Coast, Fla. and to Gulf Shores, Ala. She looked forward to the Garfield Reunions and her
monthly luncheons with the "Garfield Girls". She also was a member of the Martinsville Athletic
Booster Association. She was a wonderful mother to her sons and truly enjoyed becoming a
grandmother. She is sadly missed by those left behind, but we take comfort in knowing she is
now in the care of the Lord. Survivors include two sons, Dan Thorlton and wife Cindy of Linton,
and John Thorlton and wife Paula of Robinson, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Timothy Thorlton
of Linton, and Collin and Carter Thorlton both of Robinson, Ill.; a sister, Edna Neff; and a
brother, Billy Joe Burk; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents,
husband, and five siblings. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Roselawn Funeral Home
with Pastor Mike Roth officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Wolfe, Patricia    

Royal Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Sept. 29, 1931, in Terre
Haute, to Howard Eugene Wolfe and Eileen Elnora Liffick Wolfe. She worked as a beautician for
several years, then worked at Hills Department Store, and as an Avon dealer. She is survived
by children, Elnora Ann Allen, and Howard Evertt Sears, both of Terre Haute; a sister, Jeanette
Alice Jones and husband Marvin of Rockville; a niece, Levesta Wilson of Terre Haute; nephews
Robert Jones, and Timothy Jones and wife Sherry, all of Rockville; and a great-niece, Andrea
Jones of Rockville. Also surviving are grandchildren, Christina Allen, Christopher Allen, Carrie
Sears, Stacie Whitley and husband Brian, Angel Rice and husband James, and Chrissy McKee,
all of Terre Haute, and Chad and Kim Sears of Tennessee; 14 great-grandchildren; and
several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lloyd Roberts Sears; and a
granddaughter, Angela Sears.She was a former member of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly),
and loved doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, painting and ceramics. She was an avid collector of
Elvis Presley memorabilia and clowns. Services are 7 p.m. Wednesday at Roselawn Funeral
Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with Pastor Don Hatfield officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial
Park. Visitation is 5 p.m. until services Wednesday. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers,
