Crumrin, Dorothy Mae McMahon    

Dorothy Mae McMahon Crumrin was born Dec. 6, 1911, in Terre Haute, to Chester and
Clella McMahon. She passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sunday, May 31, 2009,
at Union Hospital, with her family at her side. Dorothy married Roy Crumrin on April 1,
1934, and they had two sons, Ronald and Richard. Dorothy and Roy were married 58
years, until he preceded her in death on July 5, 1992. She had one sister, Helen McMahon
Nash. She attended Eliza B. Warren Elementary School, Sandison School, and Wiley High
School. Dorothy first worked for Thompson-Symon Poster Company, then stayed home to
raise her family until she became secretary of Terre Haute Roofing and Siding Co., which
she co-owned with her husband in the 1950s. When her good friend, Kathleen King,
opened the Meadows Center Beauty Salon, Dorothy went to work there as a
receptionist/manager, and stayed for 35 years, making many lifelong friends among the
ladies of Terre Haute, including her close friends, Jan Coffman and Susie Costa. Dorothy
moved to Saturday Set and Company as a receptionist, and retired from there after five
years when she was in her 80s. She loved to travel and made visits to many states and to
the Bahamas.Dorothy is a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, where she sang
in the choir for many years, was a former member of the Terre Haute Elks Club, Blue
Stocking Club, and Canasta Club. She was secretary of the Deming Center Tenants
Association for several years. She most recently resided at Royal Oaks Health Care
Center, where she was very fond of her caretakers.Dorothy will be greatly missed by her
sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Jacquelyn Crumrin of Terre Haute, and Richard
and Jean Crumrin of Stilesville; her grandchildren, Peggy and John Wessol of Terre Haute,
Ronald Crumrin Jr. of Dallas, Jim and Sandy Crumrin of Montezuma, Judy and Bill Sheldon,
Nicci Crumrin and James Ofsansky and Curt and Kim Crumrin, all of Terre Haute; Susan
Crumrin of Stilesville, Diana Crumrin of Indianapolis, Melissa Crumrin of Stilesville, and
Julie O'Riley of Zionsville. She also is survived by great-grandchildren, Sarah Mains, Holly
Wessol, Trevor Wessol, Tyler Crumrin, Laura Hires and Steve Eddleman, Jessica and
Chris Durbin, Ashley Sheldon, April Sheldon, Brittany Belfi, Zachary Belfi and Kelsie Clark,
Joshua Belfi, Kyle Crumrin, Cora Crumrin, Jay Christopher Creech and Kara Huff, Breanna
and Brandon Voils, and Kayla O'Riley; great-great-grandchildren, Alexis Hires-Eddleman,
Ryan Ball, Jalen Sheldon and Emilee Voils; and a host of additional loving relatives and
friends.Dorothy also was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Clella; her
husband, Roy; her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Ben Nash; her great-grandsons,
Matthew Ryan Mains and Austin Curtis Crumrin; and her great-great-granddaughter, Alivia
Grace Sheldon-Sanders.Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. in Callahan and Hughes
Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at 1
p.m., with Dorothy's nephew, the Rev. David Butts, officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn
Memorial Park, 7500 N. Clinton St.  
Wright, Inez Lee   

Inez Lee Wright, 81, of Terre Haute, passed away at 9:25 a.m. Sunday, May 31, 2009. She
was born June 14, 1927, in Cullman County, Ala., to George and Tressie (Cawell)
Washington. She was a factory worker with Columbia House, Quaker Maid and Midland
Glass. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Wright, who passed away in
February 1988; her parents; three brothers, George Washington Jr., Elton, and Carlos
Washington; her stepfather, Mr. Rhodes; and three half sisters, Estelle, Kathrine, and
Christine. Survivors include her companion and best friend, Wilbert Smith; two sons,
Deldon Wright and wife Maria Carmella of Rosedale, and Terry Lee Wright of Terre Haute;
three daughters, Becky Tabbert of Toledo, Ohio, Patricia Carol Pruitt and husband
Richard of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, and Cindy Jo Chatman and husband Phil of Terre
Haute; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.Inez loved to yard sale, the Covered
Bridge Festival, and spending time with family and friends. She will be dearly missed by
all.Funeral services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425
Wabash Ave., with Dave Rector officiating. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial is in
Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Hogan, Curtis Lee   

Curtis Lee Hogan, 49, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday morning, June 2, 2009, at
Union Hospital. He was born Feb. 7, 1960, in Terre Haute, to Jerry and Patricia (Tennis)
Hogan. Curtis worked as a carpenter, and was an avid fisherman, and he loved to sketch
and draw.He is survived by his parents; a son, Jason Hogan and wife Lisa of Indianapolis;
and a granddaughter, Callie Hogan of Indianapolis; siblings, Michael Ray Hogan and wife
Sharon of Kokomo, and Cindy Junker and husband Howard of Brazil; nieces and nephews,
Tiffany Harden and husband T.K. of Terre Haute, Josh Hogan of Vero Beach, Fla., Katie
Hogan of Kokomo, Adam Perkins and wife Ashlee of Fontanet, Tricia Junker and Jennifer
Junker, both of Brazil; and several great-nephews.His maternal and paternal grandparent,
and several uncles are waiting for him in heaven.Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m.
Friday at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with services at 7 p.m. Burial will be
in Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Richey, Harold Loie   

ROCKVILLE — Harold Loie Richey, 85, of Rockville, died at 3:58 p.m. Tuesday, June 2,
2009, in his residence. He was the retired owner of R.T.C. Auto Parts in Rockville, and
Clinton Auto Parts in Clinton. He was born April 10, 1924, in Kansas, Ill., to the late Ross
Richey and Ruth Bennett Richey. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Margaret Garner
Richey, whom he married Nov. 9, 1945, in Marshall, Ill. Also surviving, two daughters,
Bunny (Ron) Thomas of Ferndale, and Brenda (Steve) Leighty of Seymour; two brothers,
Huber Richey of Marshall, Ill., and Vernon "Butch" Richey of West Terre Haute; one sister,
Shirley Richey McCullough; four grandchildren, James Tad Forrest, Stephany (Johnny)
Dowd, Brian Leighty, Kimberly (Bill) Bates; and six great-grandchildren, Glory and Skylar
Forrest, Jordyn and Max Dowd, Jack and Lucy Bates. He also was preceded in death by a
grandson, Shawn Forrest, in 2005. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, where
he served in the "B" Company, 5th Tank Battalion, 5th Marine Division. He was a member
of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Rockville, Social Lodge 86 Free and Accepted Masons
in Terre Haute, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, American Legion Fellenzer Post 48, life
member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Taylor Post 1752, charter member of Rockville
Elk's Lodge 2471, Rockville Rotary Club, and Disabled American Veterans. Active in
community affairs he served on the Billie Creek Village Board, Rockville Park and
Recreation Board, and Parke County Zoning Board of Appeals. Services will be 1 p.m.
Saturday, June 6, 2009. in Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard St., in Rockville. Burial
will follow services at Roselawn Memorial Park in North Terre Haute. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m.

Pearman, Barbara J.   

CLINTON – Barbara J. Pearman, 67, of Clinton, died June 2, 2009, at Union Hospital in
Terre Haute. Born Oct. 15, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Hurley and Pearl
Irene Rimbaugh Hurley. She was presently working for Sony in Terre Haute and also
worked in the St. Bernice Sewing Factory from 1970 until they closed. She loved bingo and
her great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Pearman;
and her stepson, Paul C. Pearman Jr. Survivors include three daughters, Michelle Paisakie,
Gina (Mike) Jones of Blanford and Paula Pearman of Fairview Park; one son, Jackie G.
Sharp of Blanford; four stepsons, Randy Pearman of Florida, Mike (Tammy) Pearman of
Hillsdale, Scott (Brenda) of Hillsdale and Robert Pearman of Clinton; one stepdaughter,
Mary Francis Pearman Mayes McFall; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one
brother; one sister; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Paul (Lucky)
Pennell and Jennifer Brown, and a friend from work, Jennifer.Funeral services will be 11 a.

Ramey, Imogene May Bryant   

Imogene May Bryant Ramey, 90, of Terre Haute, went home to be with her Lord and Savior
on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 in Union Hospital with her family at her bedside. She was born
April 25, 1919, in Terre Haute, to Isaac Davis Bryant and Ora Belle Bullis. She married
Hughie Ramey on Sept. 10, 1938. She loved God, her family and friends. Her hobbies were
writing poems, playing bingo, euchre, bunco and Texas Hold 'em. She enjoyed going to
yard sales, loved music (Lawrence Welk), loved dancing, singing, reading and board
games. She was a member of the Grandmothers Club and the Foster Grandmothers. She
attended 4th Avenue Methodist Church and Grace Methodist Church. She worked at
Popoff's Cleaners, Felix Cleaners, Columbia Records and Reuben Donnelly. She is
survived by her children, Sandra F. Neice, Jim (Diane) Ramey and Jeri Lynn (Kenny)
Lawrence; grandchildren, Chris (Patti) Neice, Brenda Ross, Cheryl (Mike) Conwell, Brian
(Gloria) Neice Sr, Steven Neice, Mark W. Neice, Debbie (Patrick) Denning and Juliane
Ramey, Kevin (Jan) Lawrence, Angie (Adam) Millar, Greg (Jamie) Lawrence; 19
great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.She
was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; siblings, Darrell Victor Bryant, Derle
Lenheart Wilson Sr., Thelma Inez Beard, Jesse Curtis Bryant, John Davis Bryant, William
Laurne Bryant, and Martha Hannah Bryant; granddaughter, Teresa Lynn Lawrence; and
great-great grandson, Mark Wayne Paul Leach.She was a loving wife, mother,
grandmother and friend. She made many friends in her lifetime and she cherished them
all.Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Roselawn Funeral Home,
7500 N. Clinton St., with services at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Pastors Adam Millar and
Dennis Sanders will be officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Lammey, Bert   

Bert Lammey, 86, of Terre Haute passed away June 4, 2009, at Union Hospital. He was
born on Feb. 8, 1923, in Midland, to John and Lena (Mason) Lammey. He graduated in
1941 from Midland High School, and attended Brown's Business College in 1942, after
which he entered the U.S. Army. He served in both the European and Pacific theaters
during World War II. He worked as an accountant for several different companies
throughout his lifetime, including Crane Co., Mechanical Suppliers and Freitag-Weinhardt
Inc. He was a member of the Northside Church of Christ, the American Legion Prairie Creek
Post and the Kiwanis Club. Bert was an avid Cubs fan, and he enjoyed word puzzles and
genealogy. He was active in Boy Scouts and helped build Camp Wabashi.He is survived by
his wife, Wilma (Parrish) Lammey, whom he married on Dec. 23, 1943; children, Michael
Lammey of Kankakee, Ill., and Lorette Semon and husband Tom of Holly Springs, N.C.;
grandchildren, Bart Lammey and wife Janet of Normal, Ill., Bond Lammey and husband
Anthony LeBlanc of Chicago, Trisha Washington and husband Troy of St. Louis, and Kelsie
Semon and Kyle Semon, both of Holly Springs; a great-granddaughter, Kate Lynn Lammey
of Normal; a brother, Paul Lammey and wife Rita of Terre Haute; and several cousins,
nieces and nephews.Bert was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one
sister.Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home, with Ken Grubb officiating. Burial will
follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Bert would have preferred, instead of flowers, that
donations be sent in his name to Camp Wabashi or Hospice of the Wabash Valley.  
Tomlinson, Franz Errol    

Franz Errol Tomlinson, 94, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 4, 2009,
at Cobblestone Crossing Health Campus. He was born on Sept. 28, 1914, in Terre Haute to
Rollie Glenn and Lottie Mae (Curtis) Tomlinson.Franz was a lifetime member of the Zorah
Shrine and Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Shrine Band. He was one of the
original members of the Six Men of Note and Claudia. He and his wife owned and operated
Midwest Supply Electronics in Twelve Points in Terre Haute. Franz was a private pilot, as he
Tomlinson, whom he married on June 27, 1937; three children, Errol Tomlinson of Terre
Haute, Kathleen Maxwell and husband Donald of Terre Haute, and Tommy Tomlinson and
wife Jerry of Colorado; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by his parents; and a brother, Curtis Tomlinson.Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m.
Monday in Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home,
with Pastor Aaron Wheaton officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Moy, Anna Durkos Byers    

Anna Durkos Byers Moy, 99, died Saturday at 7:05 a.m. in Royal Oaks Nursing Home. She
had worked at Woolworth. She was born Oct. 4, 1909, in Terre Haute the daughter of Mike
and Elizabeth Yusko Durkos. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Judith and
Jim Shelton; two sons, Richard Byers and William Byers and wife Wanda; five grandchildren;
11 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Virgil Byers; second
husband Richard Moy and several brothers and sistersServices are 2 p.m. Tuesday at
Mattox Wood Funeral Home with Father Joe Villa officiating. Visitation is 11 a.m. until service
time Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be at Roselawn.  
Powell, Robert   

Robert "Bob" Powell, 74, of Terre Haute died Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Union Hospital. He
had been a truck driver for Superior Concrete. He was born May 19, 1935, in Terre Haute,
to Harry and Alta Arthenia Smith Powell. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.He
is survived by his wife, Karen Powell; three daughters, Peggy, Melinda, and Dawn; one son,
Robert Lee Powell Jr.; one stepdaughter, Susie and John Bunch; two stepsons, Fred and
Linda Long, and Mark and Venita Swiger; three sisters, Barbara Powell, Johnnie Stewart,
and Harriet Bennett; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Alta Barber and
Shirley Hutchison.Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N.
Lafayette Ave. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be noon until service
time Friday.  
Pence, Horace E.   

Horace E. Pence, 81, of Terre Haute, passed away at 7:50 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at
Meadows Manor East. He was born March 26, 1928, in North Terre Haute, to Charles
Wayne and Francis Marie (May) Pence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara
(Parker) Pence; two brothers, William A. Pence and Charles Wayne Pence; two sisters,
Agatha Callacod and Grace B. Markle Pence. He is survived by two sons, Stanley E. Pence
of Terre Haute, and Michael E. Pence and his wife Catherine (Ryan) Pence of Syracuse
N.Y.; his grandchildren, Christina M. Pence, Jon R. Pence, and Eric M. Pence; a
great-grandson, Skyler Pence; a sister, Nila Marie Lofton and her husband Porter (Don)
Lofton; a brother, Ralph T. Pence and his wife Betty; and several nieces and nephews. He
was a graduate of Wiley High School, and worked for 37 years at Terre Haute Pepsi-Cola.
He enjoyed bowling, gardening, and NASCAR. He was a member of Terre Haute Lodge 19,
Free and Accepted Masons, and was an honorary member of several other Masonic lodges
in and around the Terre Haute area. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday at DeBaun
Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with the Rev. Jeff Lee officiating. Visitation is 4 to 8
p.m. Thursday, with Masonic memorial services at 7. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial

Wabash Valley.  
Rose, Marcia Ann    

Marcia Ann Rose, 69, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Union
Hospital. She was born Aug. 31, 1939, in Jackson County, Ill., to Robert E. Stephens and
Alberta L. (Schimpf) Stephens. She was a retired registered nurse. She married Daniel W.
Rose, and he survives. She also is survived by her mother; two sons, Daniel S. Rose, and
Jeff W. Rose, both of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Renee Chaney, Michael A. Duby,
Christopher J. Taylor, and Brady Foster, all of Terre Haute; a great-grandchild, Kaden H.
Bennett of Terre Haute; three brothers, Bob Stephens and wife Kay of Arkansas, Richard
Stephens and wife Jane Ann of Terre Haute, James Stephens and wife Elaine of Brazil; a
sister, Patricia Hughes of Terre Haute; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She
was preceded in death by her father; daughter, Michelle Rose; nephew, Rick Stephens; and
brother-in-law, Daryl Hughes. She was a member of the Kerman Grotto and Chi Omega
Sorority. She did a lot of volunteer work for many causes. Her hobbies included ceramics,
pottery, flowers, gardening, visiting art museums, and buying houses. Services are 1 p.m.
Thursday at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with Pastor Dan Romanyk
officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.  
Workman, Arvin LeRoy    

Arvin LeRoy Workman, an emeritus professor of communication at Indiana State University,
went to be with the Lord Sunday, June 7, 2009, in Asheville, N.C. Born in Pierson, Mich., on
March 28, 1931, he was 78 years old. He attended high school in Terre Haute and
graduated from Gerstmeyer Tech (1949), where he lettered in track and football. He earned
an undergraduate degree from Indiana State University, and again lettered in football. After
obtaining a doctorate at Michigan State University, he taught for 26 years at Indiana State
University. He retired as director of Television Services. A captain in the Naval Reserves,
Arvin was called to active duty during the Korean War. He retired from the Navy after 36
years and, while never able to swim, was fond of saying "nobody can swim a thousand
miles." Arvin served the First Baptist Church of West Terre Haute as a deacon,
superintendent, Sunday school teacher, and treasurer. He deeply loved his family and
modeled a dedicated work ethic, godly character, and unconditional love. His passions
included designing elaborate treasure hunts, writing poetry and stories, and taking road
trips to see friends and family. Arvin's unique trademark with his children and grandchildren
was the gift of two-dollar bills. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Wilma; his son and
daughter-in-law, Larry and Lisa Workman of Chandler, Ariz.; his daughter and son-in-law,
Jill and Kevin Martin of Asheville, N.C.; his daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Ron Pitcock
of Fort Worth, Texas; and his daughter and son-in-law, Missy and Kai Soltau of Vienna,
Austria. He loved his 12 grandchildren, Christine, Levi, Joshua, Sawyer, Keegan, Graedon,
McCade, Delaney, Finley, Madeline, Henry, and Eliza. He also is survived by two sisters,
Joycelyn Workman of Aurora, Colo., and Marlette Randall of Monroe, Mich. Visitation is in
Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., at 10 a.m. Friday, with the funeral following at

LaRoche, Fred W.    

Fred W. LaRoche, 65, of Terre Haute, passed away June 9, 2009 in his residence. Born
July 7, 1943 in Princeton, he was the son of Frank LaRoche and Edith (Bell) LaRoche. He is
survived by his wife of 43 years, Rita (Norris) LaRoche. Fred served in the U.S. Navy. He
worked for more than 15 years and retired from the Vigo County School Corp.'s
maintenance division. He was a member of the American Legion, Kerman Grotto, the
Masonic Lodge, Murdock Racing Club, and the VFW. He was a loving husband, father and
grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He was an avid NASCAR, football and
basketball fan. He also enjoyed being outdoors. Survivors include his wife; three daughters,
Leia A. Sigler and son-in-law Scott of Terre Haute, Tonya S. Whetsel of Greencastle, and
Leslie R. LaRoche of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren, Tawny Kvintus, Courtney LaRoche,
Shea Kvintus, Alex LaRoche, Cole Whetsel, Joshua Sigler, Addison LaRoche and Ethan
Reece; one future great-grandchild; two sisters, Sue Kehoe of Fort Wayne and Martha
Howard and brother-in-law Dale of Texas; three sisters-in-law Jean LaRoche of North
Carolina, Loretta Lee of Michigan and Donetta Bender of Terre Haute; brother-in-law,
Kenny Norris of Florida; and 10 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his
parents; and brother, Frank LaRoche II. Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Roselawn
Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor
Vince McFarland officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. The Terre Haute
VFW will perform gravesite military rites.  
Grindle, Agnes Byrena Hoke   

Agnes Byrena (Hoke) Grindle, 95, of Terre Haute, passed away of natural causes at 11:35
a.m. Friday, June 12, 2009, at her daughter's residence, surrounded by her loving
family.She was born in Coal Bluff on Aug. 20, 1913, to James and Mary (Wright) Hoke. She
was a homemaker, enjoyed working with crafts, collecting recipes, cooking, working word
puzzles, being with family and praising her Lord.She was married to Aaron W. Grindle on
March 1, 1932, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1998.She is survived by her
daughter, Rosetta Fagg (caregiver) and Aaron R. Grindle and wife Maxine Grindle of Terre
Blackwell and her husband Eugene of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren, Jeff Grindle of
Fort Wayne, Gary Grindle and wife Lisa of Arizona, Kevin Grindle, Mark Grindle, Pam Hall
Blackwell and her husband Eugene of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren, Jeff Grindle of
and husband Joe, and Brenda Shepard, all of Terre Haute, and Sheila Gardner of
Tennessee; nine great-grandchildren, Michael Grindle of Fort Wayne, Austin Shepard of

Una Eileen Slavens, 75, of LaGrange, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, June
14, 2009. She was a member of North Vernon Order of Eastern Star, United Methodist
Church in Terre Haute, and attended the Stroh (Ind.) Church of Christ. She is survived by
husband, Robert L. Slavens; children, Eileen (John Sr.) Lurker, Tonya (Craig) Hoppes, Rob
(Lecia) Slavens, and David (Ursula) Slavens; brothers, James E. McDaniels, Ralph
McDaniels, and O.R. Bingley; sister, Ann Myers; mother-in-law, Frances Slaven;
grandchildren, Angelia (Matthew) Thorpe, John (Alyson) Lurker Jr., Drew Lurker, Ryan
Lurker, Stacy (Troy) Baer, Kelly (Kevin) Ross, Amy (Adam) Copeland, Bobby Slavens,
Brock Slavens, Morgan Candelaria-Slavens, and Sam Swagerty; great-grandchildren,
Avery, Nolan, and Chase Thorpe, Caroline and Evelyn Lurker, Abbey and Dylan Ross,

Spencer, Geneva B.   

Geneva B. Spencer, 100, died Monday, June 15, 2009, at Royal Oaks Health Care and
Rehabilitation Center. Geneva Bishop was born here on Jan. 27, 1909, to Carl Austin
Bishop and Mabel Smith Bishop. A retired elementary school teacher, she graduated from
Wiley High School in 1926, and began her teaching career in Elkhart. Geneva married Keith
D. Spencer on Jan. 1, 1929, and after taking time for two children, completed her bachelor's
degree in Elementary Education at Indiana State Teachers College in 1958. She received
her master's degree in Elementary Education from Indiana State University in 1962.
Daughter, Marilyn Joan was born Oct. 14, 1930, and son, David Keith was born Jan. 24,
1943.A dedicated educator who was loved by students, parents and fellow teachers alike,
she was a popular second grade teacher at Davis Park School from 1958-1974. She has
been a member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church since the 1940's.Survivors
include children, Marilyn (and Jack) Hanna of Albuquerque, N.M., David Spencer (and Linda
Dillon) of Cheyenne, Wyo.; grandchildren, Joe (and Amy) Hanna of Auburn, Ala., Jeffrey
Spencer of London, England, Tad (and Katie) Spencer of Denver; and great-grandchildren,
Mark and Sara Hanna of Auburn, Ala. Other survivors include her cousin, Virginia
McCutchan of Spencer. Additionally, a half brother, Jerry Dana of San Antonio, and a half
sister, Lela Patton of Decatur, Ark., who were located after Geneva's intensive search of the
American West to determine what had become of her father. She discovered that Carl
Bishop (aka. Carroll Patrick Dana) had died in Arizona in 1950. Additional survivors include
special friends and caregivers, Steve and Janice Thompson, and many friends and church
family.Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Keith, in 1988; her brother, Walter;
and several aunts and uncles.Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, June
18, 2009, in Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Monty
Barker officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled from 5 to

Terry Ray Haughee   

Terry Ray Haughee, 58, of Prairie Creek passed away and went to join the band of angels
at 11:08 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, in his home with his wife and family by his side. He
retired from Prairie Group Concrete and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 135 at
Terre Haute. He was a well known musician in the Wabash Valley and a charter member and
founder of the Wabash Valley Musicians Hall of Fame. He was born Jan. 12, 1951, at Brazil,
Ind. to Alexander Haughee and Anna Cassady Haughee. Survivors include: his wife, Tammy
Haughee; children, Kris Haughee, Terry Haughee, Larry Stultz, Jerry Stultz, Mickey Stultz,
Logan Benskin, Jim Stultz, Vanimee Burgess, and Megan Benskin; a sister, Janice Haskett;
two brothers, Larry Haughee and Rick Haughee; his former wife, Brenda Sue Featherston;
his mother-in-law, Sandra Brower; seven grandchildren, Kristopher, Shawn, Jonathan and
Michaela Haughee, Curtis, Gavin, and Ella Stultz, and Peyton Martz; and several nieces,
nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter,
Pepper Renae Haughee; two sisters, Sandy Morlan, and Carolyn Haughee; and his
father-in-law, Jerry Upp. He was an active member of the BOW Brothers of The Woods.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with Rev. Casey Archer
officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today and prior to services Friday. Burial will be in
Roselawn Memorial Park with graveside military rites by the American Legion Post 346.  
Starkey, Ruth M.    

Ruth M. Starkey, 95, of Terre Haute, died in her residence at 9:10 p.m., Monday, June 15,
2009. She was born in Terre Haute, on Oct. 6, 1913, to George and Emma (Clemmons)
Roehm. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Ural Starkey, preceded her in death on Feb.
19, 1998. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Archer and her husband Jerry, and Ruth
Pleus and her husband Gordon. She was preceded in death by another daughter, Mary Jo
Boland. She also is survived by one brother, George Roehm; 13 grandchildren; and many
great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Her deceased brothers and sisters are,
Esther Garvin, Virginia Hauer, Lucille Lidster, Paul Roehm, Bud Roehm, Joe Roehm, Ethel
McCammon, Helen Roehm, and Julia Eaton. She was also preceded in death by a
granddaughter, Beverly Pleus and grandson, Terry Boland. Memorial services will be 7 p.m.
today at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until
service time today. Following cremation, burial will be private at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Stadler III, Henry W.  

Henry W. Stadler III, 70, of Terre Haute passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 17,
2009, at Regional Hospital. He was born Jan. 11, 1939, to Henry W. Stadler Jr. and Hazel
Sanders Stadler in Evansville, Ind.He is survived by his wife, Judy Rassie Stadler, whom he
married on Oct. 25, 1964; son, Henry Stadler IV and wife Natali; daughter, Staci Tryon and
husband Dan, both of Terre Haute; brother, Clayton Stinson of Evansville; sister-in-law,
Beverly Shahadey of Terre Haute, favorite "cuz", Donald Lyon and wife Harriett of
Scottsdale, Ariz., several nieces and nephews as well as many, many dear family members.
His greatest joys were his grandchildren; Henry V, Alexander, Jonathon, Audrey, Carli,
Morgan and Levi. He was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann
Stadler.He moved from Evansville to Terre Haute in 1962 to work for Remington-Rand
Shaver Company in an office inside the Terre Haute House. He later moved to Sullivan, Ind.
with his wife as a sales rep. for Nabisco and shortly thereafter obtained his real estate
license. Selling part-time, he quickly became a realtor and spent the next 40 years of his life
doing a job he truly loved. For more than 20 of those 40 years, he owned and operated
Century 21 The Stadler Group with his wife Judy. He was still actively involved in real estate
until his death.He was involved in numerous affiliations and associations including the
National Assoc. of Realtors, Terre Haute Board of Realtors, Strawberry Hill Cannoneers,
Country Club of Terre Haute, Sycamore Club and a past board member of the Greater
Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce."Hank" was a loving husband, father, and "papaw" and
was so proud of all his grandchildren. He enjoyed Indiana University sports, fishing, hunting
and spending time at his cabin on Paintmill Lake or the beach in Destin, Fla. He never met a
stranger, was the life of the party and always had a joke or a prank for anyone who knew
him. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m., today at United Methodist Temple and Saturday at 10 a.m. until
the service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers,
contributions in his memory may be made to the Terre Haute Children's Museum
Endowment Fund in care of Wabash Valley Community Foundation. DeBaun Springhill
Chapel is in charge of arrangements.  
Ream, Jeffery Warren   

Jeffery Warren Ream, 58, of Terre Haute died at on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Union
Hospital. He was born in Terre Haute, Ind. on July 31, 1950, to Bobby Warren Ream and
Madonna Elaine Banyas Ream. He was a systems software analyst at Columbia House for
40 years. He married his lifelong love from the age of five, M. Susan (Susi) Olmi Ream on
Oct. 28, 1972. He adored his family and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He
was an avid motorcyclist, car buff, recently found a new love in camping and was an active
supporter of the National Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation. He is survived by his wife;
one son, Sam Ream and his wife Keturah of Clinton, Ind.; two brothers, Bradley Ream and
his wife Kay Haripold of Catlin, Ind., and Danny Ream and his wife Donnie of Terre Haute;
one brother-in-law, Ray Olmi and his wife Cindy of West Terre Haute; two sister-in-laws,
Sherry Pound of Terre Haute and Becky Stoehr and her husband Mike of Dennison, Ill.;
nieces and nephews, Kate Vannoy of Southport, Ind., Maggie Rife of Mooresville, Ind.; a
niece who was a daughter to us, Jamie Williams and her husband Paul of Amo, Ind.., Ray
Olmi Jr. of West Terre Haute, Eric Olmi of Kissimee, Fla., Brian Williams of Amo, Chelsea
Williams of Amo, Stephanie Stoehr of Dennison, Blake Stoehr of Houston, and Chris Stoehr
of Noblesville, Ind.; aunts and uncles, John and Betty Ann Ream of Terre Haute, Jack Myers
of Terre Haute, Trilby Reagin of Terre Haute, and Wilber and Jo Ann Ream Moore; several
cousins; Susi's mother who he considered a mother, Ruth Ann Olmi, and a dear friend,
Peggy DeLong and family. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today with services at 1 p.m. on
Saturday, at Greiner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 2005 North 13th Street. Burial

Ruth Stevens, 76, of West Terre Haute passed away at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009,
in her residence with her family by her side. She was born June 30, 1932 at Newport, Ind. to
Harlan and Pauline Kirby. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Stevens Sr.
Survivors include, seven sons, Frank (Dolly) Stevens, Larry Stevens, Albert (Gina) Stevens,
Chuck (Lori) Stevens, Mike (Ronda) Stevens, Jim (Bernice) Stevens, and Bill (Rosie)
Stevens; seven daughters, Linda Miller, Kathy (Ronnie) Lafleur, Diane (Jerry) Dean, Pam
(Clarence) Hayes, Debbie (Fred) Light, Darlene Stevens and her companion, Charlie Snow,
and Sue (Ralph) Miller; 49 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Imojean and
Marilyn. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Trish Anderson;
grandsons, Robert Stevens, Raymond Miller, Dillon and James Stevens; a brother, Bill Kirby
and a sister, Norma Hammond. She collected bears, and enjoyed yard sales, game shows,
puzzle books and she was an avid country music fan. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday
in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Wilbur and Roy McGranahan officiating.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and prior to services Monday. Burial will be in Roselawn
Memorial Park.  
Cartwright, Gitzy Patt   

Gitzy Patt Cartwright, 80, of Terre Haute, died peacefully Monday June 15, 2009, in her
home surrounded by her family. She spent many years as a homemaker then she went to
work at Columbia Records for many years and after her retirement from there she went to
work at Dr. Ferguson's Clinic. She was born June 1, 1929, in Vincennes, Ind. to Gaddis P.
and Doris McCarthy. She is survived by a loving family which includes: a son: Michael D.
Turner and his wife Pamela of Plainfield, Ind.; a daughter: Gretchen P. Baysinger and her
husband Gary of Brazil; a stepson Gordon Stoneking of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a
stepdaughter, Debra Cartwright of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren: Erica Hooker and her
husband Ryan, Meredith Williams and her husband Tony, Garrett Baysinger, Gaddis
Baysinger, Jonathon Cartwright and his wife Davida, Cody Swart, and Brandon Swart; seven
great-grandchildren: Samuel Cartwright, Craig Cartwright, Turner Williams, Berkeley
Williams, Addison Hooker, Devon Swart, and Taelor Swart; a sister: Caroline McCarthy,
several nieces and nephews, and special friends Ed Mooney, Beverly Wood and Janie
Wood. She was preceded in death by the love of her life Joseph "Louis" William Cartwright
who died Sept. 20, 2003; her parents; a daughter: Susan Fuson, and stepson: Ronald
Cartwright; a brother: John McCarthy and her beloved dog Mindy Sue. She was a member of
St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, enjoyed gardening and painting and traveled the world
through her reading. As per Gitzy's request cremation is scheduled. There will be a
gathering for family and friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Saturday at the DeBaun Springhill Chapel,
85 E. Springhill Dr. with a Celebration of Life to follow at 5 p.m. in the funeral home with the
Rev. Rick May officiating. Burial will be at a later time in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of
flowers the family has suggested that if friends so desire memorial contributions may be
made to either VistaCare Hospice or the Terre Haute Humane Society (envelopes will be
available at the funeral home). Gitzy loved life and cherished her family and friends and she
will be sadly missed by many.  
Stewart, Joetta L. "Jodi"    

Joetta "Jodi" L. Stewart, 39, of Terre Haute, passed away June 21, 2009, in her residence.
Born Feb. 1, 1970, in Terre Haute, she was the daughter of Joseph E. Stewart and Linda A.
(Campbell) Stewart. Survivors include five siblings, Rhonda Anderson and husband Kenny of
Haute, Kim Stewart of Terre Haute, and Robby Knudson of Indianapolis; two nieces, Nikki
and Julia Stewart of Mansfield, and nephew, Joshua Stewart of Terre Haute; several aunts,
uncles and cousins. Her parents and grandparents preceded her in death. Jodi enjoyed
bowling and basketball. She participated in the Special Olympics and Happiness Bag. Her
hobbies included sports, music, collecting baseball cards. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys
fan. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services are
2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Grandidier, Mary Jane White    

Mary Jane White Grandidier, 84, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and formerly of Terre Haute died
Saturday, June 20, 2009, in Ft. Lauderdale. She was born in Clinton, Ind. on June 16, 1925
to Gordon Steele White and Hettie (Sollars) White. After graduating from ISU's Laboratory
School she married Richard E. Grandidier, who died Oct. 29, 2000, he was a Wiley High
School graduate and pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the time and upon his return to Terre
Haute owned and operated Sunbeam Electric. Mary Jane opened and operated Merle
Norman Cosmetics Stores in Terre Haute and South Bend, Ind. before retiring to Ft.
Lauderdale. She is survived by a daughter, Candi Grandidier Kuykendall and her husband
Dr. Gerald L. Kuykendall; a grandson, Andrew Steele Kuykendall all of Ft. Lauderdale and a
stepgranddaughter, Laura Kuykendall Dedenbach of Gainesville, Fla.Funeral services are 1
p.m., Saturday in Callahan DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave. with the Rev. Ron
Riggs officiating. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m., today in the funeral home. Burial will be in
Roselawn Memorial Park.  

Dovie Byers, 96, of Eustis, Fla., and Terre Haute, died at Terre Haute Regional Hospital on
Friday, June 26, 2009. She was born Oct. 8, 1912, in Terre Haute, to Mayme and Clarence
Jennings. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George H. Byers, in 1987; two
brothers, Verl and Ed Jennings; and three sisters, Edyth Adams, Juanita Mahurin and Julia
Dicks. Dovie has one surviving sister, Imogene Holthaus and husband Bill; and one
sister-in-law, Cecilia Jennings; three daughters, Nancy and Paul Eikelman, Marilyn and Mike
Miller, all of Florida, and Pat and Bruce Barton of Texas and Florida; eight grandchildren,
Steve and Patty Eikelman, Roger Miller and Lisa Elkins, Lynn Barton, Mark Eikelman, Dale
Miller, Fred and Sandra Eikelman, Shari and Kevin Harrell, and Lora Miller. Dovie was proud
of her seven great-grandchildren, Joseph, Alexandra, Cami, Harper, Nick, Emma, and Lily.
She has numerous nieces and nephews.She has been a member of Maplewood Christian
Church since 1943.Services will be held at Thomas Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday,
with a burial ceremony on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Dovie will laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park
with her husband George.
