Gantz, Rose M.
Rose M. Gantz, 92, of Terre Haute died Friday, June 26, 2009, in Southwood Health and
Rehabilitation Center. She was born Nov. 17, 1916, in Vigo County, to Anton Bauer Sr.
and Belle Beam Bauer. Her husband of 32 years, Willard E. Gantz, preceded her in death
in 1969.Survivors include a daughter, Susan Evans of Terre Haute; a brother, Joseph
Bauer of Terre Haute; four sisters, Betty Heine and Mary Price, both of California, Helen
McGee, and Frances Taken, both of Terre Haute; three grandchildren, Dawn Sargent of
Manitowoc, Wis., David Evans and Chris Evans, both of Terre Haute; and six
great-grandchildren, Lily Paramanandam, Jon Sargent, Holly Sargent, Jessica Evans,
Samantha Nasser and Rachel Paramanandam. She also was preceded in death by her
parents; a brother, Anton Bauer Jr.; and three sisters, Patty Smith, Annabelle Sullivan and
Margaret Hoffman.Rose was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Caring for her family
and extended family was her greatest pleasure in life. Rose's two greatest loves were her
husband Willard, and her home.Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, July 1, 2009, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar St., with Father Rick
Ginther officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled
prior to services on Wednesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Sheridan, Delores
Delores Sheridan, 99, of Terre Haute, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2009,
in her residence. She was born in Terre Haute on Sept. 10, 1909, to Vandivier Giles and
Elizabeth Vanlandingham Giles. She was a homemaker and a 1929 graduate of Garfield
High School. Her husband, Robert L. Sheridan, preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1982.
She also was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters. She is survived by one
niece, Pauline Fox; and one nephew, Clarence Waldrop. Other survivors include several
great-nieces and great-nephews; two special great-great-nephews, Jacob and Joshua; as
well as one special great-great-niece, Jessica. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday,
July 1, 2009, at Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave. Burial will be at
Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is noon until services Wednesday. In lieu of flowers,
the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley.

Barton, Mary Frances
Mary Frances Barton, 85, of Terre Haute, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Southwood
Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 27, 1924, in Vigo County, to Walter
and Mae Scott. Mary was a homemaker, who also enjoyed gardening, crafts, reading,
antiques, genealogy and church activities. She is a descendent of Lucius H. Scott, pioneer
settler, school teacher and first merchant of Terre Haute. She and her husband, Richard,
were members of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Survivors include a sister,
Louise Shassere of Fort Wayne; two sons, James (Candy) Barton, and David (Carol)
Barton; daughter-in-law, Rita Walters Barton; grandchildren, Angie (Bob) Downing, Ryan
(Kelly) Barton, Jeb, Jake and Miranda Barton, all of Terre Haute, Craig (Jessica), Cori, and
Chad Barton, all of Clinton; great-granddaughters, LeeAnn and Samantha Curtis of Terre
Haute; sister-in-law, Norma Shryock; brothers-in-law, Donald Daily and Lee Cox of Fort
Wayne; special cousin, Virginia Hess; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Richard W. Barton; a son, Richard W.
Barton Jr.; a brother, Johnny Scott; two sisters, Betty Cox and Pauline Daily; in-law
relatives, Preston Shryock, Glen Shassere, and Wilbur Junior and Connie Barton. Services
are 1 p.m. today in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with Pastor Rick Swan
officiating. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 11 a.m. until

Myron E. Linnabary, 76, of Terre Haute died on July 1, 2009. He was born on Sept. 9, 1932
in Terre Haute to Otto and Nellie (Cox) Linnabary. He was a decorated Army veteran of the
Korean War, a lifetime member of VFW 972, and a member and nightly visitor of
Krietenstein American Legion Post 104 where he enjoyed the companionship of the other
members, many friends, and their families. He was a retired material handler from Pillsbury
Company. His enjoyments were working in his yard, helping everyone that needed it with
their remodeling or construction projects and most of all his special relationship with each
and every one of his grandchildren and his ability to make them all know and feel how
special they were to him. His first wife, Gladys Linnabary, preceded him in death in 1983.
His survivors include his wife Leona (Harris) Linnabary, stepchildren, Tommy Rollo of Brazil,
Robert Taylor of Terre Haute, William Taylor of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Carol Ann
Bridgewater of Brazil. His also has a twin brother, Byron Linnabary, 16 grandchildren and
16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. His brothers Dewey, Kenneth,
and Donald preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at DeBaun
Springhill Chapel with his grandsons, Jeffrey, Jim and Ronnie Bridgewater officiating. Burial
will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with military rites by Krietenstein American Legion Post
104. Calling hours will be Monday from 11 a.m. until services.

Ladika, Virginia Frances
Virginia Frances Ladika, 91, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday morning, July 2, 2009,
at Union Hospital. She was born March 19, 1918, in Jasonville, to George and Emma Belle
Miers.She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her children and
grandchildren.She is survived by her three children, Judith Ann Rafter and husband Jerry,
Linda Lou Stakem, and Fred Ladika and companion Cynthia Wilson. She also is survived
by 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Paul Ladika; a son-in-law, Brian Stakem; and all of her brothers and
sisters.Services are noon Tuesday at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with
Pastor Kyle Andrews officiating. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Tuesday. Burial will follow
at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Hopton, William J. "Bill"
William J. "Bill" Hopton, 62, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2009. He was
born Feb. 4, 1947, in Terre Haute. He was the owner of Laughrey Brothers Roofing in
Terre Haute, and the former owner of Lincoln Park Speedway in Greencastle. He was a
1965 graduate of Garfield High School and a graduate of Indiana State University. He was
the former lieutenant governor of his district, as well as past president, of the Breakfast
Optimists. He also was a former member of the board of directors of the Sycamore Varsity
Club at Indiana State University. He was an avid sports enthusiast for all sports at ISU, as
well as the St. Louis Cardinals, Detroit Tigers, and was a huge fan of Tony Stewart of
NASCAR. He coached Youth Basketball for his son and grandson, and helped form the
T.H.A.T. (Terre Haute Action Track) group which were the promoters of the Terre Haute
Action Track for seven years. He is survived by his wife, Marlene Lybarger Hopton, whom
he married Nov. 4, 1994; one son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Mandy Hopton of
Fontanet; one daughter, Stacey Hopton of Terre Haute; five grandchildren, B.J., Jacob, and
Kayla Hopton of Fontanet, and Adrian and Devon Hatcher; sister and brother-in-law,
Barbara and Melvin Wood of Terre Haute; and special cousin, Maggie Keller of Terre
Haute. He will be greatly missed by his faithful sidekick, Chuckie Hancock, and "Little Sister',
Maggie Shook. He was preceded in death by his parents; John Wright and Mildred Hopton
Wright; a brother, Michael "Mikey"; and his childhood guardians, Tom and Margaret
Minks.Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St., with
Brother Abe Miller officiating. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial is at

Roman, Jean P.
Jean P. Roman, of Rolla, Mo., and formerly of Terre Haute, passed from this life Friday, July
3, 2009. She was the daughter of Elmo A. Pugh and Flossie Kathleen (Shelton) Porter,
born in Terre Haute on Nov. 5, 1925. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1944,
and attended Indiana State Teachers College. She married Kenneth A. Roman on Feb. 14,
1947. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper for many years for her husband's service
station, Roman Brothers Marathon. She was a member of Maplewood Christian Church in
Terre Haute before transferring her membership to First Christian Church in Rolla, when
she moved to Rolla in 2005, to be with her daughter. While in Terre Haute, she belonged to
Kappa Alpha Sorority while attending college, the auxiliary of Banks of the Wabash Chorus
of Barbershoppers, Kerman Caldron, Service League of Union Hospital volunteer, Senior
Seekers of Terre Haute, and the Red Hat Society in Rolla.She was preceded in death by
her loving husband; her parents; stepfather, Paul K. Porter; sisters, Margorie Roman, and
Gretchen Nipple. Survivors include a daughter, Allison (Roman) Holdaway of Rolla; sons,
Mark Roman and wife Cyndi, Drew Roman, Scott Roman and wife Debbie, all of Terre
Haute; seven grandchildren, Amy (Holdaway) Smith of Rolla, Andy Roman, Matt Roman,
Katey (Roman) Earl, Mandi Roman, Lucas Roman and Emilee Roman, all of Terre Haute;
three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Wilma Roman and Louise Roman; brother-in-law,

Stone, Helen E.
Helen E. Stone, 79, of Terre Haute passed away early Saturday morning July 4, 2009 in
Union Hospital. She was born on Nov. 6, 1929 in Terre Haute to Jason and Ollie (Key)
Kintner.Helen worked at Quaker Maid for 27 years and later retired from Indiana State
University after 13 years of custodian work. She loved boating and being on the water as
well as taking photo's.She is survived by a daughter, Cherie K. Lewis and her husband
Joseph C. of Terre Haute, a sister Cleo Henry of Indianapolis, four grandchildren, nine
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband, Billy E. Stone; special friend, Oliver Campbell, and several brothers
and sisters.Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday in Roselawn Funeral Home.
Services are 6 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with Pastor Kyle Andrews officiating.

Abrams, Ralph A.
Ralph A. Abrams, 66, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009 in the Union
Hospital. Born Dec. 18, 1942 in West Terre Haute, he was the son to Anderson Taft Abrams
and Edith Evelyn (Williams) Abrams. He married Marlene J. Newell and she survives. Ralph
served in the Air Force. He worked as a Supervisor for the Cinergy Power Plant. His
hobbies included spending time with his family, square dancing, Civil War reenactment,
NASCAR and tinkering with wood.Survivors includehis wife; a son, Andy Abrams and
significant other Carol Ross of Denver; daughter, Tami Abrams and significant other Rusty
Ammerman of Terre Haute; stepdaughters, Michele Marlow and husband Doug of Granger,

Purcell, Clyde G.
Clyde G. (Buck) Purcell passed away at 2 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Southwood Health
and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 16, 1921 in
New Goshen, Ind. to Clyde A. Purcell and Dora Bonser Purcell. He was given the name
Buck by his Clinton High School coach after a winning football game and that was the name
he preferred to be called.In 1946 he married Betty Jo Bailey at a small country church in
Marshall, Ind. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Penny
Jo Samm and Mike of Houston and Kerry Ann Jewell and George of South Bend, Ind.;
grandchildren, Matthew Todd Samm and his wife, Rachael of Houston, Joel Buckly Purcell
Jewell of Washington, D.C. and Isabel Sara Ann Jewell of Holland, Mich.; a sister-in-law,
Peggy J. Bailey of Terre Haute, Ind.; and one nephew, Gordon Hayes and his wife, Janice of
Thousand Oaks, Calif.Buck loved life, he enjoyed traveling, boating, water skiing, ballroom
dancing and cooking and baking for his friends. He was a fifty-plus year member of the
Masonic Order where his membership is currently at Parke County No. 8 F. and A.M.,
Rockville, Ind.He was a maintenance foreman at Visqueen Corporation for 17 years. Later,
after 25 years of semi truck driving he retired from Commercial Lovelace in 1983.A member
of Zorah Shrine, he was an enthusiastic leader and worker for many years. He served three
terms as Trustee of Zorah Temple and was a life member of the Director's Staff. He enjoyed
transporting patients to St. Louis Hospital for Children and followed their progress. He was
Director of Zorah's Tri Corps unit for several years. Buck was also a member of the United
Presbyterian Church of Clinton.His parents and his sister, Isabel Sarah Purcell Hayes and
her husband, Raymond, preceded him in death.Visitation is Saturday, July 11, 2009 from 4

Marquis, James Luther
James Luther Marquis, 89, of West Terre Haute passed away at 5:26 a.m. Thursday July 9,
2009 in Union Hospital at Terre Haute. He retired from the Coca Cola Bottling Company
after 41 years of service. He was born April 30, 1920 in Terre Haute to Fred Marquis and
Gertrude Cundiff Marquis. His Wife, Betty Jane Etling Marquis whom he married on Jan. 2,
1946 in Terre Haute preceded him in death on March 29, 2003 after 57 years of marriage.
Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and John Baker and Carolyn and
Dan Deason; two sons, Jim Marquis and his wife Terri, and Mark Marquis; a brother-in-law,
John Etling and his wife, Pat; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff (Annette) Baker,
Bruce (Kim) Baker, Abby (Jerry) Maple, Kevin (Jennifer) Couch, Leslie Thompson; Jennifer
(Scott) Kaschner, Julie (Derek) Kiefer, Emily Marquis, and Jenna (David) Redman; five
great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was also survived by a special
friend, Nina Couch-Corenflos. He was a devoted member of the Bethesda United Methodist
Church, an Army Veteran of WWII during which he served in the 94th Division, a member of
the West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge 687 F. and A.M. for over fifty years, and a member of
the American Legion Krietenstein Post 104. Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. today in
Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen Relford officiating. Visitation is 10 a.m. until
service time today. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with graveside military rites by
the American Legion Post 104. The family suggests, that if friends so desire that in lieu of

Turner, Anita Laverna
BRAZIL — Anita Laverna Turner, 88, of Brazil, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday July 7,
2009 at St. Vincent Clay Hospital. She was born Sept. 23, 1920 to Harry and Mary (Maesch)
Fears. Mrs. Turner spent most of her life raising and caring for her family. She enjoyed
fishing and gardening and camping. She also enjoyed sewing and craft making.She was
preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Erwin Smith and Russell Turner; a son,
Ted Smith; and brothers, Joe and Harold Fears.Survivors include her grandchildren, Ted B.
Smith Jr. of Bloomington, Ind., Penni Campbell and husband Mike of Center Point, Ind. and
Tina Weber and husband Robert of Clay City, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Derek
Smith, Joel Campbell and wife Kristi, Katie Campbell, Dana and Dakotah Weber; great-great-
grandchildren, Alexandria Smith, Chase Campbell and Alan Smith; sisters-in-law, Bernice
Shosser and Marjorie Bennett.Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Lawson–Miller Chapel with

Fuqua, Betty Rose
Betty Rose Fuqua, 87, of Terre Haute, died Friday July 10, 2009 at 6:05 a.m. in Union
Hospital. She retired from CBS in 1983. She was born July 30, 1921 to Willard Gregory
Vangilder and Edna (Corbey) Vangilder. She is survived by a son, Keith Fuqua and wife
Chris of Whitehouse, Ohio; a daughter, Karen Whtilock and husband Dale of Terre Haute;
two brothers, Richard and David Vangilder; four sisters, Carolyn Jones and husband Bob,
Shirley Hopkins, Jackie Pastorious and husband Bill, and Linda Sullivan; five grandchildren,
nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by
her parents; and a sister, Jane Garloch. She was a 49-year member of the American
Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Private family burial is scheduled in Roselawn Memorial Park. A
Celebration of Life for family and friends took place noon Sunday, July 12, 2009, in the
Riley American Legion. If friends so desire in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be

Todd, Winfred Elwood
Winfred (Windy) Elwood Todd, 88, known to his family and friends as Dad, Windy and
Grandpa died peacefully at the home of his son, Larry Todd, in Visalia, Calif. on June 22,
2009. Born Aug. 20, 1920, he was the son of Claude and Hazel Lankford Todd. He
graduated from Fayette High School in New Goshen, Ind. in 1938. Windy worked as a
conductor on the Milwaukee Railroad for 40 years. He is a World War II veteran and served
in Northern Africa and Italy in the Allied Forces Military Railway Service 715th Railway
Operating Battalion. He was proud to serve his country. He was a Life Member of the VFW
Post 972 and served as Post Commander in 1972-1973 and Post Adjutant from 1985-2001.
He is survived by his three children, Donna Todd Gaillard of Petersburg, Va., Larry Todd of
Visalia, and Linda Patrick Grimes of Greencastle, Ind.; five grandchildren, Julie Jacob of
Dunwoody, Ga., Derek Verdeyen of Stafford, Va., Jill Deer of Birmingham, Ala., Jamie Jost
of Denver, Colo., and Kari Van Genderen of Indianapolis, Ind.; five great-grandchildren,
Charlie and Will Deer, Tyler and Hayley Verdeyen, and Jarrett Jost; several nieces and
nephews along with his devoted dog Twinkles.He was preceded in death by his parents,
Claude and Hazel Lankford Todd; his wife, Martha Jane Baker Todd, and his brothers,
Robert and Louis Todd. A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in
Roselawn Memorial Park. There will be a memorial celebration at the VFW Post 972 from

Trueblood, Ruth H.
Ruth H. Trueblood, 100, of LaPorte, and formerly of Terre Haute, died Friday afternoon,
July 10, 2009, in Golden Living Center-Fountainview Terrace in LaPorte. She had worked
for Quaker Maid Company in Terre Haute, and later for American Home Foods in LaPorte.
Ruth was born May 12, 1909, in Terre Haute, to James Richards and Arletta Criss
Richards. Her husband, Vern Trueblood, preceded her in death in 1974.Survivors include
her daughter, Patricia Sams of LaPorte; a son-in-law, Al Rainey of Hamilton; eight
grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She also was
preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Rainey and Virginia Rainwater; a brother,
Clarence Richards; a sister, Anna Louise Phillips; and one grandchild.Ruth was a member
of Agape Christian Church in LaPorte, and had attended Mount Pleasant United Methodist
Church in Terre Haute. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family and friends,
and reading the Bible. She loved to play cards and was a great Uno player. As an avid
walker, Ruth took pride in the fact that she was able to stay active until just last
year.Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009, in Callahan
and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with Pastor Aaron Wheaton officiating. Burial

Collins, Wilma L.
Wilma L. Collins, 94, passed away Tuesday June 14, 2009, at Meadows Manor North in
Terre Haute. She was born Feb. 9, 1915, to Mary Ellen (Malone-Raley) Miller and Barney
Miller.She is survived by one brother, Willard C. Stevens and wife Barbara Ann of
Jasonville; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Stevens of Jasonville; nieces, June Beatty of Terre
Haute, and Colleen Baughman and husband Andy of Jasonville; nephews, Kenneth
Stevens and wife Nancy of Fort Worth, Texas; Tim Stevens and wife Cheryl, and Bruce
Stevens and wife Monica, all of Jasonville; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and
great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents;
stepfather, John Stevens; husbands, George Minor and Frank Collins; a sister, Louise

Community Church. She was retired from civil service, having worked at Wright-Patterson
AFB, Ohio, and Kelly AFB, Texas. She enjoyed Scottie dogs, and her hobbies of raising
roses, gardening, quilting, and needle work of all kinds. Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday,
July 20, 2009, at Thomas Funeral Home, 2200 N. 13th St., with Pastor Brett Wilson

Bumpus, Jimmy W.
Jimmy W. Bumpus, 74, of Terre Haute died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in his residence. He
was born May 9, 1935 in Clay, Ky. to James H. Bumpus and Georgia Watson Bumpus. He
was a retired mill operator with Alcan Aluminum Products. He was preceded in death by his
wife Nancy E. Doan Bumpus in 2007.Survivors include his mother, Georgia Bumpus of
Floral City, Fla.; three sons, Bruce Bumpus, Jon Bumpus, and James Bumpus and his wife
Lecia; two daughters, Mary JoAnne Salyer and her husband John, and Sally Clark and her
husband Mark all of Terre Haute; two sisters, Jackie Gramzow of Floral City, and Garnet
Johnson of Clinton, Mich.; and six grandchildren, Jason Keck, Jaclyn Bumpus, Lauren
Bumpus, Haylee Salyer, Emalie Bumpus, and Maris Clark. He was also preceded in death
by his father, and a sister, Dottie Walsh.Jimmy was a member of Cross Tabernacle, West
Terre Haute Lodge 687 F and AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine,
Murdock Racing Club, and the Sons of American Legion Post 346. He was an avid fan of

Parr, William E.
William E. Parr, 84, of Terre Haute passed away late Wednesday night June 15, 2009 at
Meadows Manor East Nursing Home in Terre Haute. He was born on Nov. 16, 1924 in
Terre Haute to Elmer and Phila (Ettinger) Parr.William was a United States Army veteran
who served in World War II and Korea. He worked as a Supervisor at the Army Ammunition
Plant in Newport, Ind. He loved antiques and building miniature dollhouses and dollhouse
furniture. He was a member of the former Trinity United Methodist Church in Terre
Haute.He is survived by his wife, Mina Rose Parr, whom he married on June 1, 1947; a
son, Thomas Eugene Parr and wife Gerri of Banning, Calif.; a daughter, Sharon Rose
Wharton Knott of Terre Haute; grandchildren, James and John Wharton, and Amber Knott;
a great-granddaughter, Makayla Wharton and one brother, Jack Parr and wife Wilma of
Lenoir, Tenn.William was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Michael
Wharton.Visitation will be 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday in Roselawn Funeral Home. Services
are 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Frank Oakman officiating. Burial will

Dyer, Margaret Ilene
CLINTON — Margaret Ilene Dyer, 85, passed away peacefully at Hope Hospice House in
Cape Coral, Fla. llene was born Nov. 29, 1923, to Clarence and Alice Henderson (Houser),
in Clinton. With her beloved husband, Jimmy, they built the Horseshoe Lakes Camping and
Recreation area through the 1960's, 70's and 80's. Throughout these years they brought
much fun and joy to the children and adults alike of St. Berniece, Jonestown, Dana, Clinton,
and Paris, Ill. In 1984 they retired and transferred ownership to Thousand Trails Inc., who
continues to operate the camping facility today. Horseshoe Lakes, which they visited
regularly until recently, remained a source of pride and peace for both of them throughout
their lives.llene also was known for her beautiful singing voice and traveled frequently
throughout her young adult life from Clinton to Chicago, via train, to take voice lessons
from Rosa Raisa, a highly acclaimed soprano who opened a voice/opera school in
Chicago, following a highly successful opera career. Ilene and Jimmy also were founding
members of Wayside United Methodist Church, where Ilene filled the role of choir director
for several years.She was a devoted and loving mother of two, grandmother of five, and
great-grandmother of nine, all of whom will miss her dearly.Ilene was recently preceded in
death by her loving husband of 67 years, James "Jimmy" W, Dyer, who passed away on
June 20, 2009. Ilene also was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna Decker (Williams) in
1977, and Miriam Pennington (Jacobs) in 2008; and her two beloved aunts, Vera Doyne
Lumpp (Houser) and Martha June Mattsey (Houser). She is survived by her brother, Dr.
James R. Henderson (wife Carolyn); and sister, Carolyn Anne Henderson and their family
of Hannaford. Calif. She also is survived by her two children, Doyne Edward Dyer of Fort
Myers, Fla., and Pamela Sue Dyer of Clinton; five grandchildren, Dwayne Dyer (wife Sue)
of Fort Myers. Sheila Gianelli (Dyer) (husband John) of Stockton. Calif., Teila Schuttinger
(husband Tye) of Columbus, Ohio, Lori Benson of Atlanta, and Tedd Snyder of Atlanta;
and two nephews, Patrick and Christopher Pennington, both of Indianapolis.Funeral
services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., Clinton, with the
Rev. Allen Relford officiating. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Saturday. Burial is at

Combs, Josh Lee
Josh Lee Combs, was an extremely active 10-year-old bowler and fisherman who died on
July 16, 2009. Josh played basketball for the Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club, and was a
North Little Leaguer. He was a former Cub Scout who liked to play with his Nintendo DS
and Wii gaming system. Josh was a collector of Pokemon, like most boys who are entering
the 5th grade. He attended Rio Grande Elementary and was proud to become the only new
member last year of the Rio Grande Bobcat Trail 100 Mile Club. Josh's favorite activity was
helping his father DJ at the radio station. "Remember Josh for the fun-loving guy he
was!"Josh is survived by his parents, Marty "Party Marty" Combs and Shellie Ellis Combs;
one brother, Brandon; two sisters, Addie and Kelly; and many grandparents, aunts, uncles,
and cousins, all too numerous to mention.Josh was preceded in death by many relatives
who loved him, particularly his grandmother, Mary Lou.His family is suggesting

Wilkins, Betty Jean
Betty Jean Wilkins, 84, of Terre Haute passed away Friday evening, July 17, 2009, at
Southwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 5, 1924, in Terre Haute,
to Harold and Hazel (Pullium) Dennis. Betty did photography in her earlier years, and later
retired from Montgomery Wards. She loved to needle point and crochet. She is survived by
two children, Edwin Wilkins and wife Traudie of Terre Haute, and Karen Niece and husband
Ronnie of Brazil; grandchildren, Mike and Cassie Wilkins, Chris, Tracy, and Ronnie Niece,
Tammy Waggle, and Robin Lore; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by her parents; her husband, Edwin Wilkins; and her sister, Helen Haton. Services
are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. Burial will follow in

Coleman, Jane Slover
Jane Slover Coleman, 75, died at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009, in Meadows Manor
East. She was born on July 6, 1934, to Harry D. Cash and Adeline Stokes Cash.She was a
1952 graduate of Garfield High School and was employed by Central Federal Savings and
Loan for 21 years, and Indiana State University for 18 years in the Department of Health
and Safety. She was a former member of Beta Sigma Phi, a professional businesswomen's
society, and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.She was preceded in death by
her mother; one daughter, Rhonda Jane Slover; one son, David Dale Slover; her first
husband, Ronald G. Slover; her second husband, Walter L. Coleman; her grandmother,
Catherine Greenleaf Stokes; and grandparents, Clyde and Maude Cash. She is survived
by her father; one son, Michael S. Slover of Terre Haute; a good friend and caregiver,
Sandra Antey of Newton, Ill.; and her aunts, uncles, and several nieces and
nephews.Funeral services are noon today at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St. in

Barnett Sr., Ronald G.
Ronald G. Barnett Sr., 71, of Terre Haute, died at 4:10 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009. He
was born April 17, 1938, to Eugene and Doris (Padgett) Barnett in Bucktown. He graduated
from the former Garfield High School in 1956, and attended classes at Indiana State
University. Ronald retired from the Terre Haute Fire Department, after 30 years of service,
where he worked as a firefighter, inspector and arson investigator. After he retired from the
fire department, he and his wife owned and operated the Italian Connection restaurant and
the Lincoln Trail concession in Marshall, Ill. He was preceded in death by his mother, father,
and wife, Donna K. Barnett, who he considered his soul mate of 41 years. Ron loved to go
out dancing at local clubs and was a self-proclaimed "great dancer."He is survived by two
sisters, Judy Frobien and husband Pier of North Carolina, and Janice Kisner and husband
Kenny of Terre Haute; his four children, Ron Barnett II of Terre Haute, Brian Barnett and
wife Marsha of Tulsa, Okla., Jeff Barnett and wife Dawn of Indianapolis, and daughter Cathy
Gambrel of Fort Smith, Ark; his grandchildren, Christopher Griffin, Nathaniel Griffin, Shawn
Griffin, Nichole Barnett, Ronald Barnett III, Bryant Barnett, Brandon Barnett, and Jennifer
Barnett; and great-grandchildren, Julian Klatte, Jedediah Klatte, Hailey Barnett, Christian
Barnett, Callie Barnett, Jaden Griffin, Page Griffin, and Gage Griffin. Services are 10 a.m.

Loretta D. Conley, 65, of Terre Haute, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, in Union Hospital. She
was formerly the senior vice president of the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce. She was
born Aug. 27, 1943, in Terre Haute, to Bryan Long and Marie Watkins Long. Loretta was
preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Alan Lee Conley, in 2005.Survivors include
her mother, Marie Clingerman and her husband Edwin of Terre Haute; a son, Jeff Conley of
Terre Haute; two daughters, Lisa Elmore and her husband Ed of Evans, Ga., and Cheryl
Hubbard of Terre Haute; a sister, Juanita Barton and her husband Bob of Bargerstown,
Ind.; a half sister, Phyllis Snyder and her husband David of Indianapolis; six grandchildren,
Bryan Rudisel, Kyle Hubbard, Mason Hubbard, Christopher Elmore, Ashley Elmore and
Jordin Conley; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her
father; and a sister, Delores Eads.Loretta was a member of United Methodist Temple,
Wabash Valley Optimist Club and a board member of Junior Achievement of the Wabash
Valley. She graduated from Wiley High School and had attended Indiana State

McGrew, Margaret Ann Burns
Margaret Ann (Burns) McGrew, 74, passed away at her home in Terre Haute, on Sunday,
July 26, 2009. She was born Nov. 27, 1934, to Matthew and Mary Burns. She was a life-long
member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she married the love of her life, Arthur
"Bud" McGrew, in 1956. She is survived by her husband; a brother, Matthew Burns Jr. of
Akron, Ohio; four children, Linda Tarwater and her husband Mike of Terre Haute, Arthur
McGrew Jr. and his wife Janet of Indianapolis, Carol Stockwell and her husband Mark of St.
Louis, and Mary Ervin and her husband Tom of Terre Haute); 10 grandchildren, Kevin and
Sean Robinson, Sarah and Anna McGrew, Blake and Brooke Stockwell, Kelly Smith, Adaire,
Evan and Aubrey Ervin; two great-grandchildren, D.J. Music and Maggie Robinson; and
several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters,
Elizabeth Marie Burns and Rosemary Smith; her brother, James Burns; and her daughter,
Elizabeth Marie McGrew. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1952. She was a filing
clerk at Local Reader Service, and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Red Hat Society,
and La Bonita bowling team. She was a soprano in the Sacred Heart Choir for more than 50
years, singing for church services, weddings, and funerals.Margaret's zest for life was only
outdone by her hilarious sense of humor. If there was a funny twist to something, she would
not only point it out but act it out for you. She will be sorely missed by her loving family and
the many, wonderful people she met and touched along the way.Visitation will be 9 to 11

Stone, Norman Eddie
Norman Eddie Stone, 69, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday evening, July 28, 2009, in
Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born on July 1, 1940, in Greene County, to Victor
and Virginia (Ellis) Stone. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked at Midland Glass doing
machine repair. Norman loved to travel all over and he enjoyed spending time with his
grandchildren and family.He is survived by his children, Julie Bennick of Decatur, Ill., Christy
Moses and husband Dana of Indianapolis, Dorla Green and husband Larry of Gosport,
Diana VanVleet and husband Brad of Decatur and David Stone and wife Lucy of Clarkston,
Mich. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Jack Stone
and wife Shirley of Terre Haute, Milford Stone and wife Becky of Linton, Sandy Williams of
Terre Haute, Mike Stone and wife Teresa of Farmersburg, and Steve Stone and wife Valda
of Terre Haute; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Paula.He was preceded in
death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn; siblings, Ronald and Donald Stone, Carolyn Cowen
