Musick, Ellen   

Ellen Musick, 87, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, in Royal Oaks
Healthcare Center and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on March 14, 1921, in Terre
Haute to John Allen and Mary L. Jones. Ellen graduated from Indiana Business College,
and went on to retire from Newport Army Ammunition Plant after 39 years of service, where
she was in charge of industrial relations.She was a member of Barbour Avenue United
Methodist Church, Barbour Avenue United Methodist Christian Women’s Association,
Christian Women’s Business Association, Beta Sigma Phi, Zi Alpha Mu. Ellen loved to fish
and bowl, and had a very fond love for her animals, especially her cats.She was preceded
in death by her parents; her husband, John W. Musick; a daughter, Lynette E. Cartwright;
an infant daughter, Georgia Musick; sister, Mary Lou Stultz; brothers-in-law, Gerald E.
Stultz, George W. Musick and Jack Hinesley; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Musick.Survivors
include, two sons, John M. Musick and wife Sue of Terre Haute and Jonathan W. Musick
and wife Debra of Lewis; son-in-law, Rick Cartwright of Mooresville; five grandchildren,
Michelle R. Dickerson and husband Neil of Terre Haute, David W. Hos and companion
Ginna Smith, Shane H. Musick and wife Shelley of Hymra, Casey Cartwright and wife Lorrie
of Hiltonhead, Fla., and Raymond Cartwright of Mooresville; seven great-grandchildren;
and three nieces and one nephew.Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Roselawn Funeral
Home, 7500 N. Clinton Street. Services are noon Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor
Kathy Roush officiating. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services. Burial will follow in Roselawn
Memorial Park.  
Strahle, Geneva    

HYMERA — Geneva Strahle, went home to be with her Lord at 10:55 a.m. Thursday, Jan.
29, 2009, after battling Alzheimer’s disease for nine years. She was born on Sept. 24,
1923, in Riley, the daughter of Oscar and Cecil Bell Lowish Whallon.Survivors include her
son, Jerry and Kathy Strahle of Hymera; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Issac Strahle of
Hymera; one sister, Mary Bockhold of Terre Haute; and two sisters-in-law, Eloise Whallon
of Riley and Connie Whallon of Clay City.She was preceded in death by her husband,
Robert Jerry Strahle; her son, Robert (Bobby) Strahle; her parents; four brothers, Ernie,
Wayne, Donald and Ennis Whallon; and two sisters, Ester Delaney and Ruth Anderson.
Graveside services are 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, in Roselawn Memorial Park with the
Rev. Jim Quick officiating. Mattox-McHugh Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.  
Mitchell, Rose Ann Padgett McGaughy    

Rose Ann Padgett McGaughy Mitchell, 79, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, Jan. 31,
2009, in Royal Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Oct. 10,
1929, in Terre Haute, the daughter of Lourice Padgett and Anna Marie (Gobin) Padgett.
Rose Ann attended Garfield High School. She worked in earlier years at Union Hospital in
housekeeping and at Glasco for some time. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother
and great-grandmother. Rose Ann loved arts and crafts, ceramics, cooking, traveling and
spending time with her grandchildren.Survivors include her four children, Linda Riley and
husband Michael of Pennsylvania, Dan McGaughy and wife Judi of Terre Haute, Robert
Mitchell Jr. and wife Paula of Kingston, N.Y., and Angela Alturki and husband Faisal of
Houston; grandchildren, Michael Riley Jr. and Valerie Wilson and husband Charles, all of
Pennsylvania, Kimberly McGaughy of Terre Haute, Tracy Hackett of West Terre Haute,
Lauria Rose Mitchell, Robert Mitchell and Christian Mitchell, all of New York, Mansour
Alturki and Abdullah Alturki, Nora Ann Alturki, Neda Alturki and Reem Alturki, all of Texas;
two great-grandchildren, James Michael Valentine and Andrew Riley Wilson, both of
Pennsylvania.She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; and her husband,
Robert Mitchell, who passed away, June 13, 2008.Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in
Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton Street. Services are 1 p.m. in the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Huber, Mary Corbin    

Mary Corbin Huber, 92, of Greenwood, and formerly of Terre Haute, died at 12:15 a.m.
Friday Jan. 30, 2009, in Greenwood Village South. She was a school teacher for 44 years,
having taught in Vigo County and Clay County. She was born on May 2, 1916, in Brazil, to
Ottomer Corbin and Tressa (Williams) Corbin.She is survived by her daughter, Linda
Rancour of Greenwood; a grandson, Brian Tunin; the “apple of her eye” a great-
granddaughter, Haven Dawn Tunin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by her husband, E. Max Huber, who died on March 23, 1991; her parents; two
brothers, Don Corbin and Warren Corbin; a son-in-law, Charles Rancour; three sisters-in-
law; and one brother-in-law.She loved every student she had, was a world traveler, having
taught in many foreign places. She was a member of Breden Memorial United Methodist
Church and the Methodist Women’s Association, She was involved in Title 1. She was a
member of the Retired Teachers Association and was a graduate of Indiana State
University.Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, in DeBaun Springhill
Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with Pastor David Deal officiating. Entombment is in
Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, in the funeral
home. The family suggests that for those who desire, memorial contributions may be made
the charity of their choice.  
Slavens, James M.   

James M. Slavens, 80, of West Terre Haute, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, in Union Hospital’
s emergency room. He was the son of the late William Slavens and Ella Nivens Slavens. He
was born July 8, 1928. He retired from Alcan in 1987. Survivors include his wife, Joy
Funkhouser Slavens, whom he married Jan. 12, 1949; a son, Randall Slavens and wife
Rebecca of Fairland; a daughter, Harlana Steppe and husband Kenneth of Carmel; four
grandchildren, Robyn Slavens Davidson and husband Kevin of Avon, Ryan Slavens of
Logansport, Kyle Steppe and Kurtis Steppe, both of Carmel; three precious great-
grandchildren, who called him “Papa Joy”, Abrianna, Austin, and Amelia Davidson; a sister,
Gracie Chambers of Clinton; numerous nieces and nephews; and his buddy, Greg Kane.
He attended Smith Park United Methodist Church. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World
War II, during which time he was stationed in Germany. He loved to feed the birds,
squirrels, his dog Woof-woof, and his parakeet Kiki, as well as keeping his yard beautiful
with flowers and trees. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home,
220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Bart Colwell officiating. Burial is in
Roselawn Memorial Park, with graveside military rites by the Vigo County Veterans
Honorguard. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today, and prior to services Thursday.  
Fuller, Robert F.    

Robert F. Fuller, 76, died at 11:40 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Union Hospital. He was
born on July 13, 1932, in Terre Haute, to Robert Gene Fuller and Dorothy Christee Fuller.
He was retired from the County Highway Department. He was in the U.S. Army
Reserves.Survivors include his wife, Carol Williams Fuller; two sons, Steven Fuller and Jan
and Robert F. Fuller Jr.; three stepsons, Thomas Fuller, Michael Harmon and wife Bonnie,
and Gene Fuller; three daughters, Debbie Fuller, Lori Daugherty and husband Barry, and
Robin Jean Fuller and fiancé Chris Allen; two stepdaughters, Karen Ferguson and
husband Don, and Dortha Bauer; two aunts, Mildred Wilguess and Betty Wilguess; 12
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; his
first wife of 47 years, Roberta Jean Fuller; and a brother, Russell Fuller.Funeral services
were Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette Ave., with

Norma L. Walls, 88, of Columbus, formerly of Terre Haute, died at 4:48 a.m. Monday, Feb.
9, 2009, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Ind. She was born March 23, 1920,
in Terre Haute, to William and Charlotte Rippey Gallion. She was a homemaker. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Gerald E. Walls, in 1970.Survivors include two sons,
Bill Walls and wife Roberta of Columbus, and Phil Walls and wife Noel of San Diego; five
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her
parents; and a brother, Jimmy Gallion.Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Roselawn Funeral
Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with the Rev. Mark Grayless officiating. Visitation is 11 a.m. until
services Friday. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Bucy, Marvin Lee   

Marvin Lee Bucy, 82, of Terre Haute, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009 in Union Hospital. He
retired from Pfizer after 38 years as a laboratory technician. He was born Dec. 31, 1926 in
Terre Haute to Harry D. Bucy and Elizabeth Gibson Bucy. Survivors include his wife of 54
years, Norma Piepenbrink Bucy, of Terre Haute; one son, Richard Bucy and his wife,
Debbie, of Terre Haute; one daughter, Beverly Christopher and her husband, John, of
Terre Haute; his twin brother, Darwin Bucy, of Sarasota, Florida; a sister, Dorothea
Koutsouros, of Sarasota, Florida; five grandchildren, Jamie, Jay, and Paul Christopher, and
Nicole and Logan Bucy; and a great-granddaughter, Sofia Christopher; and several nieces,
nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Virginia
Corey, and Joan Miller.Marvin was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and
was also a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army. He was an avid bowler for many years,
and loved ISU basketball, football and traveling. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14,
2009 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 645 Poplar Street, with the Reverend Philip Meyer
officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009 in Callahan and
Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, and 1 hour prior to services Saturday at the
church. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. If friends so desire, memorial

Niece, Helen P.   

Helen P. Niece, 90, died of a long illness Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009. Born June 13, 1918,
she was the daughter of Nick and Anna Papinchock. Her husband died in 1978 and her
oldest son, Kenneth, died in 1979. Survivors include her son, James Niece and his wife
Carol of Shelburn, Ind.; three grandchildren: James Niece and his wife Tina of Goldsboro,
N.C.; Cheryl Vaughan and her husband Nick of Clinton and Shelly Moore and her husband
Clint of Hillsboro, Ohio. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren, Alaina, David and
Joshua Vaughan, Joseph, Justin and Chase Niece, A.W. and Autumn Bowman, and
Brooklyn Moore. Services are 1 p.m. Monday at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with Father
Frank Renner officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Stout, David Dale   

David Dale Stout, 52, of Terre Haute, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at Union Hospital. He
was born Jan. 2, 1957, in Terre Haute, to Robert E. Stout and Patricia Brownson Stout
Knauer. David was a former Kentucky Fried Chicken Franchisee. Survivors include his
mother, Patricia Knauer of Terre Haute; son, Ryan Stout of Terre Haute, daughter, Leah
Stout of Terre Haute; stepbrothers, James A. Knauer and his wife Jill of Indianapolis, William
E. Knauer and his wife Lisa of Terre Haute, John B. Knauer of Indianapolis, David P.
Knauer of Terre Haute, Michael E. Knauer and his wife Bobbie of Ellettsville; and a half
brother, Richard T. Knauer and his wife Maria of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by
his father; and two brothers, John Stout and Kevin Stout. David was a member of Maple
Avenue United Methodist Church and Maryland Community Church.Funeral services will be
at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, in Roselawn Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Monty
Barker officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. There is no visitation.

Jeffries, Charles E.    

Charles E. Jeffries, 84, of Terre Haute, died at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Union
Hospital. He was born July 8, 1924, in Parke County, to John T. Jeffries and Viola (Clouse)
Jeffries. He retired in 1987, as a Terre Haute firefighter, with 30 years of service, and was a
member of Retired Policeman and Firefighters Association. He also was a member of
Maplewood Christian Church.He is survived by his wife, JoAnn (Carrier) Jeffries; one son,
Jim Jeffries and his wife Rebecca of Estill Springs, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Jonathan
Jeffries and his wife Alison of Gadsden, Ala., Ann (Jeffries) Christians and her husband
John of Nashville, Tenn.; Other survivors include, Dorothy and Jack Dwyer, Virginia and
Ralph Brill, Dale Barnes and his wife Mary Jane, and Charlotte Harpold; and several nieces
and nephews. Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St.,
with Pastor Craig Wininger officiating. Visitation will be noon until services Monday. In lieu of
flowers contributions may be sent in his honor to Maplewood Christian Church or Retired
Policeman and Firefighters Association.  
Cline, Lewis R. "Louie"   

Lewis (Louie) R. Cline, 89, of Terre Haute died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, in Davis Gardens
Healthcare Center. He was born Nov. 9, 1919, in Terre Haute, to Howard L. Cline Sr. and
Lula R. Norris Cline. He retired from the Terre Haute Fire Department in 1984, after 34
years of service.Survivors include his wife, Simone L. Cline, whom he married Oct. 7, 1972;
a daughter, Sherri Fischer and her husband Chuck of Missouri; a stepson, William H.
Terrell and his companion Debbie Hughes of Terre Haute; one granddaughter, Patti
Shouse and her husband Rob of Terre Haute; one grandson, Rob Fischer and his wife
Betty of Missouri; several great-grandchildren; several nieces; a nephew; a
stepgranddaughter, Alison J. Terrell; a stepgrandson, Adam W. Terrell; a special niece,
Ann Cline Tornese and her husband Lin; and special friends, Cindy Buddle and Jerry
Fields. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Patricia Cline; brothers, Charles
J. Cline, Myrvin Cline, and Howard Cline Jr.; and a sister, Frances Cline. Louie attended
school in Terre Haute, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a 50-plus-year
member of Euclid Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, a 50-plus-year member of the
Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, and 50-plus-year member of the Zorah Shrine. He was
a member of the Retired Policemen and Firefighters Association, and Centenary United
Methodist Church. Louie loved to take pictures and for more than 20 years took pictures at
the Indy 500 for UPI. He was a member of the Old Timers at the Indy 500. After his
retirement he became a fine woodworker, making all kinds of things, always with no charge,
he loved to work with wood.Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m.. Tuesday, Feb. 17,
2009, in Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Paul Wagner
officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, with military services by Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 972. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with Masonic

Smith, Violet Lee    

Violet Lee Smith, 71, of West Terre Haute, passed away Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Union
Hospital. She was born Nov. 25, 1937, to Clarence Bailey and Maude Brush Bailey. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Smith.Survivors include her special friend
of 30 years, Jerry Beck; a son, Herb Smith; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and
Robert Chambers, and Pam and Paul Craigmyle; two sisters, Dolly Shores, and Wanda
Carpenter and her husband Glen; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Betty Bailey;
three grandchildren, Ryan Pearson, Casey Cottrell and her husband Ricky, and Chalen
Chambers; three stepgrandchildren, Jennifer, Julie and James Craigmyle; two great-
grandchildren, Hunter and Hayden Cottrell; and many nieces and nephews. She also was
preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Eugene Bailey; and two sisters, Lucille
Shepherd, and Lois Stanley. Violet Lee was a homemaker, and the backbone of the family
business. She was very generous and always willing to help family, friends, and neighbors.
She will be greatly missed by all in which she held close. Private family services will be held
in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Dennis Leek

GraceCLINTON — Evalyn L. Grace, 80, of Clinton died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14,
2009, at West Central Community Hospital. She was born Dec. 5, 1928, in Lyford, to Other
Edward Haltom and Ida Mae Roach Haltom. She worked for Mills Restaurant for many
years. She was preceded in death by husband, Grover Grace; and husband Pearl
Timmerman Jr.Survivors include two daughters, Ellen McIntire and Karen Marshall, both of
Clinton; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death
by her parents; a brother, John Wayne Haltom; a sister, Joy Norma Haltom Morgan; and
brother-in-law, Frank Morgan.She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.Services are
10:30 a.m. Friday at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., with the Rev. Randy McPike
officiating. Burial is in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.  
Campbell, Jennifer Jo    

Jennifer Jo Campbell, 47, of Terre Haute died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at 2:18 a.m., in Union
Hospital. She was the office manager for PGI, Inc. She was born Aug. 27, 1961, in Terre
Haute, to Joe A. Brown and Donna M. (Mench) Brown. She is survived by a daughter,
Kristine Campbell of Terre Haute; her mother of Terre Haute; her fiancé, Mike Reeves; a
grandson, Wyatt Campbell; and an aunt, Mary Jane Cooke. She was preceded in death by
her father. She had previously worked for Hulman and Co. for nearly 20 years. She
enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts, antiques, and her pride and joy was her Koi pond. She
loved her friends and family at the Elm Grove, and will be sadly missed by all who knew
her. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home,
2425 Wabash Ave. Burial is at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.  
Everman, Texie Vane    

Texie Vane Everman died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, at Putnam County Hospital in
Greencastle, where she had lived in Asbury Towers for the last six years. Born Nov. 2,
1911, in Carter County, Ky., she was the daughter of Fenton Reid McCoy and Mertie Mae
(Counts) McCoy. In January 1930, she married Mason Gee Everman, in Carter County,
where they resided until moving to Terre Haute in 1946. Mason preceded her in death on
May 10, 1976. She is survived by a son, Donald Everman and wife Carole of Terre Haute;
daughter, Joyce Cade and husband Thomas of Lafayette; two sisters, Bernice Wilson and
Jessie Fugitt, both of Grayson, Ky.; a brother, Elwood McCoy, of Grayson; nine
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. She also was
preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gale Everman and wife Darlene; three brothers;
two sisters; and one great-granddaughter. After retiring from Indiana State University, she
assisted her husband in sales for David Homes of Indianapolis. Texie accepted Christ as a
teenager and remained His faithful servant. She was a member of Seelyville United
Methodist Church. Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N.
Clinton St., with the Revs. Steve Bahrt and P.T. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at
Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 12:30 p.m. until services Thursday. Donations may
be made to the Seelyville United Methodist Church Fund or to the charity of your choice.  
Parks, Mary Rose    

Mary Rose Parks, 85, of Terre Haute, passed away at 5:25 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009,
in her residence with her family by her side. She retired from Columbia Records. She was
born Dec. 15, 1923, in Terre Haute, to Charles Johnson and Eunice Ann Marshall
Johnson.Survivors include her loving husband of 64 years, Frank Parks, whom she
married Dec. 9, 1944, in Louisville, Ky.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Jim
Lydick of West Terre Haute, and Linda and Bill Spangler of Riley; a sister, Sue Lacher of
Terre Haute; five grandchildren, Mechelle Sweeting and her husband Mike, Amy Hogue,
Eric Spangler and his wife Shelly, and Jenna Lydick, all of Terre Haute, and Trey Lydick of
West Terre Haute; eight great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles
Johnson and Ray Johnson; and three sisters, Bonnie Rukes, Gladys Sutton, and Louise
Johnson. She was a graduate of Concannon High School and Smart Appearance Beauty
Academy. She had been a beautician and cosmetologist, and a lifelong member of the
National Cosmetology Association. She also was a member of First Church of The
Nazarene, the Riley Post Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, and the Women of
The Moose Lodge at Terre Haute. She loved to read and write poetry. She was a very
devoted and loving wife and mother, and cherished every moment spent with her family.
She will be missed by many who loved her dearly. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third, in West Terre Haute, with Pastors
Loretta and Dan Romanyk officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation
will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, and one hour prior to services Wednesday. The family suggests
that, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash
Valley, with envelopes available in the funeral home.  
Antrim, E. Christine    

E. Christine Antrim, 79, of Terre Haute, died at 2:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at
Union Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born Feb. 9, 1930, in Terre Haute, to
Edgar Utterback and Lucille E. Blanchard. Her husband, Owen Antrim, died July 7, 1999.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Karen Antrim Goda and husband Joe of Terre Haute; a
brother, Ed Utterback and wife Sharron of Terre Haute; a brother-in-law, David Antrim and
wife Sandy of Valparaiso; a sister-in-law, LaVerne Deering of Pollok, Texas; two

CLINTON — Jean E. Chubrilo, of Clinton, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at Union Hospital
in Terre Haute. She was born in Fontanet to Zenus and Grace VanHook.Survivors include
her husband, Victor; a daughter, Janice Judy of Clinton; two sons, Victor Chubrilo III and
his fiancée Jo-D of Flat Rock, Ill., and Michael Dean Chubrilo and wife Lisa of Universal; a
sister, Mary Alice Buffo of Clinton; a brother, Billy Dean VanHook of Fontanet; two
grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Evan Chubrilo; two

Patricia Ann Knauer, 81, of Terre Haute died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 in Union Hospital.
She was born Jan. 17, 1928 in Terre Haute to Joseph H. Brownson and Regina M. Hill
Brownson. Patricia was a retired Kentucky Fried Chicken franchisee. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Eugene Knauer.Survivors include her sons, Richard T. Knauer
and his wife Maria of Indianapolis, James A. Knauer and his wife Jill of Indianapolis,
William E. Knauer and his wife Lisa of Terre Haute, John B. Knauer of Indianapolis, David
P. Knauer of Terre Haute, Michael E. Knauer and his wife Bobbie of Ellettsville; a sister-in-
law, Wanitta Brownson; and several grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by
her parents; sons, John Stout, Kevin Stout, and David Stout and a grandson, Justin
Michael Knauer. Patricia was a member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church; the P.
E.O. Sisterhood Chapter AW, the Swope Art Museum, the Woman’s Department Club,
and the Country Club of Terre Haute. She was past Queen of Badoura Temple 23 of the
Daughters of the Nile, a member of the M and M investment club, T.O.B.I.E.S., and
Gamma Phi Beta. Patricia was also an avid bridge player.Funeral service will be at 10 a.

Bennet, Larry G.    

Larry G. Bennet, 66, of Terre Haute, passed away at 7:36 p.m. in his home on Monday,
Feb. 16, 2009. He was born in Indianapolis on May 25, 1942, to B. Eugene and Mary
Flynn Bennet. He retired from the Maintenance Department at West Central Community
Hospital in Clinton, Ind., and also had worked at CBS and Holly Hill Nursing Home. He also
was a veteran of the Air Force. Survivors include two sons; Larry Gene Bennet, Jr. and
wife Annie, and Kevin Eugene Bennet and wife Melissa; one daughter survives, Kimberly
Sue Bennet. He has three grandchildren; Selena, Draven and Dominick Bennet. Two
sisters also survive, Linda Kay Stewart and husband Jim, Sandra Joyce Kifer and husband
Tony, as well as close friends, Darla Sue Coleman and Glenda Knott. He was preceded in
death by his parents, B. Eugene and Mary Catherine Bennet. Funeral services are 10:30
a.m. Friday in Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., with Pastor Keith

Ralph Eugene Marrs, 92, of Terre Haute died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 in his home. He
was a retired Railroad conductor, having worked for Pennsylvania, Penn Central and
Conrail Railroads. He was born June 8, 1916 in Clark County, Illinois to Lafe Marrs and
Edith Sylvia Spires Marrs.Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Jane “Janie” Compton
Marrs; two sons, Robert E. Marrs and his wife, Sylvia of Athens, Ohio and Terry Marrs and
his wife Connie of Terre Haute; two sisters, Audrey Webster of Terre Haute and Rosa
McKinney of Marshall, Ill.; six grandchildren, Amanda Petkiewicz, Robert “Bo” Marrs,
Gennifer Marrs, Jordan Marrs, Brian Marrs and Ashlyn Marrs; five great-grandchildren,
Randy Hamann, Liam Hamann, Sydney Marrs, Camille Marrs and Avery Marrs; and
several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a
brother, Joseph “Bud” Marrs; four brothers-in-law, Bob Webster, Bob McKinney, Art
Compton and Luther Compton; and a sister-in-law Verna Kingery.He was a 32nd Degree
Mason with William Penn Lodge 727 F and AM for 50 years, a member of Scottish Rite
Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine Drum Corps, Kerman Grotto Drum Corps, Grotto
Outdoor Recreation Club and the Railroad Retirees. He was an avid fisherman, golfer,
mushroom hunter and railroader. Masonic Funeral Services will be Saturday, Feb. 21,

Helen Roecker, 95, formerly of Terre Haute died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, in Whitlock
House of Crawfordsville. She was a homemaker and formerly manager of St. Patrick
cafeteria for 10 years. Helen was born July 16, 1913, in Jasonville to Herbert A. Brown and
Bessie E. Lucas Brown.Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca Reagin and her
husband Gene of Summerville, S.C. and Nancy Fagg and her husband Jim of
Crawfordsville; son, Michael B. Roecker and his wife Phyllis of St. Anne, Ill.; brothers,
James Brown of Phoenix, and Bob Brown of Missouri; sisters-in-law; Ruth Meagher of
Munster and Margaret Roecker of Huntington Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband, Fred Roecker who passed away March 16, 1998; sisters, Margaret
Tichenor and Jean Shanklin and two great-grandchildren.Helen was a member of St.
Patrick Catholic Church and St. Bernard Catholic Church in Crawfordsville. Prayers will

Rita J. Collins, 66, of Terre Haute, passed away late Sunday evening, Feb. 22, 2009, in her
home. She was born June 11, 1942, in Terre Haute, to Zeno D. Edmonson and Gladys
(Hunter) Edmonson. She worked at Union Hospital as a cook. She was a member of
Fraternal Order of Police, and Wabash Valley Rodders. Rita used to knit, and she loved
going to car shows with her husband. She is survived by her loving husband, Jackie Collins
Sr., whom she married July 4, 1979; children, Martin Collins and wife Robin of Terre Haute,
Larry Collins and wife Cathy of Fishers, Jackie Collins Jr. of Terre Haute, and Donna Joan
Newton of Jacksonville, Ark.; grandchildren, Brianna Noel, Ashley Ann, Summer Elona,
Austin Christopher, Adam Lee, and Aaron Alan Collins; a sister, Nancy Higgins and
husband Robert of Terre Haute; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Don Leonard Collins; and a
brother, Charles Edmonson.Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Roselawn Funeral Home,

Payne, Dorothy E. Baker Stein    

Dorothy E. Baker Stein Payne, 86, of Terre Haute, died at her residence on Feb. 22, 2009,
at 6:10 a.m. She was born in Terre Haute on Feb. 15, 1923, to Joseph and Inez (DeHart)
Baker. She was a homemaker, and was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 291,
West Terre Haute Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574 Auxiliary, and the Wabash Valley
Senior Activity Center. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William “Bill” Stein,
in 1968; her parents; four sisters, Nancy Baker, Frances Baker, Christina Graham, and
Geraldine Gadberry; and one infant brother. Survivors include her husband, Bennie E.
Payne, whom she married June 22, 1974; two sons and their wives, John and Melody Stein
of Terre Haute, and William “Bill” Stein and Vicky Stein of Brazil; one stepson, Donald
Payne and wife Pam of Terre Haute; three stepdaughters, Velma Jeffries and husband
Steve of Terre Haute, Karen Utter of Florida, and LeAnn Slover and husband Joe of Terre
Haute; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 11 a.m.
Wednesday at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with Donna McKenzie, St.

Margaret Elaine Vicory, 5, of Terre Haute died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, in Riley Hospital for
Children. Maggie was born Aug. 22, 2003, in Terre Haute, to Michael Vicory and Linda
Robinson Vicory.Survivors include her parents; brother, Michael Vicory Jr., at home;
grandparents, David and Patricia Robinson of Hammond, Susan Vicory of Terre Haute, and
Robert and Charlotte Vicory of Flora, Ind.; great-grandmothers, Dorothy Niksich of East
Chicago, Ind., and Jeanne Robinson of Whiting; and aunts, Michelle Robinson of Hammond,
and Diane Rehmel and her uncle Jan of Shelburn. She was preceded in death by her sister,
Lucy Vicory.Maggie was a student at Ouabache Elementary School, and had her Orange
Belt from Mannings Family Tae Kwon Do. Prayers will begin at 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, Feb.

Ferguson, Mary J.    

Mary J. Ferguson, 82, of Terre Haute, went to be with the Lord at 9:35 p.m. Sunday, Feb.
22, 2009, in Meadows Manor North Convalescent Center. She was born Aug. 13, 1926, in
St. Bernice, to Elgar Snodgrass and Gladys Harris Snodgrass. She retired as a medical
transcriber. Mary was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, where she was very active
in the church, having played the piano there for many years, as well as singing — both in
the choir and solo, and also taught Sunday school for many years. She is survived by her
husband, W. James Ferguson Jr.; two sons, Jack A. Ferguson and wife Lynda, and Jay E.
Ferguson; one daughter, Julie A. Harris and husband Charles; three grandchildren,
Christopher A. Ferguson, Kaycee Harris, and Zoie Ferguson; two stepgrandchildren,
Benjamin and Jennifer Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Ariel, and
Samantha. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home,
2425 Wabash Ave., with the Revs. Mark Fleschner and Larry Mathias officiating. Burial will
be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, the

Alice Rebecca Hoesman Bennett   

Alice Rebecca Hoesman Bennett, 93, of West Terre Haute passed away peacefully in her
home Feb. 24, 2009, at 10:45 p.m. She was born at home July 26, 1915, in Merom, Ind. to
Otto Clayton Hoesman and Cora Ann Pinkston Hoesman. Survivors include one daughter,
Deborah Kay Lee and her husband Charles “Nick” of West Terre Haute; one
granddaughter, Deidre Pine and her husband Michael of West Terre Haute; one great-
grandson, Parker Allen Pine; one great-granddaughter, Peyton Nikole Pine; one sister,
Katherine Rotramel of Carlisle, Ind.; one brother, Ruel Hoesman of Sullivan, Ind. and special
friends, Carol Briggs of Terre Haute whom she considered as a daughter, Donna and Bill
Doyle of West Terre Haute, Sandy and Leon Billing of Terre Haute, Dorothy and Carl
Emerick of West Terre Haute and Vera Rollings of West Terre Haute; many nieces,
nephews, and church friends, also her black cat Scooter. She was preceded in death by her
husband of 42 years, Leslie E. Bennett, who died Nov. 23, 1982. Also six sisters and three
brothers, and three dear friends, Maxine Abernethy, Marie Bennett, and Janie Goudy. Alice
was a generous and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law,
sister, aunt, and special friend to many. She always put her families needs before her own.
She will be sadly missed beyond comprehension. She loved to do word searches, work in
her home and yard, and was an excellent cook. Her specialties included her cherry pies,
angel food cakes, beef and noodles, fried chicken, and her potato salad. She was a member
of First United Methodist Church located on North 3rd Street in West Terre Haute, where
she was an active member. She taught Sunday school for many years, and helped with Bible
school and the chicken noodle dinners. She was a member of the Methodist Church for over
85 years. She was a member of the West Terre Haute Chapter 428 Order of Eastern Star. In
earlier years, she loved to go to dances with her husband and friends and also bowled at
Vigo Bowl in Terre Haute. She worked as a sales clerk for many years at Meis department
store on Wabash and at Sears department store in San Diego. Funeral services are 1 p.m.
Saturday at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen Relford officiating. Visitation is 4 to
8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
