Hershfield, Burnita Belle Laybold   

Burnita Belle Laybold Hershfield, 86, of Terre Haute, passed away at 3:10 p.m. Saturday,
Nov. 28, 2009, in the Exceptional Living Center of Brazil. She was born in Vigo County, on
April 19, 1923, to Harry Laybold and Minnie Hall Laybold. She is survived by one daughter;
Cheryl Hershfield Sisson of Fayetteville, Ga.; one granddaughter, Jill Cochran; and one
grandson, Benjamin Sisson. Also surviving are three great-grandsons, Peyton, Ethan and
Andrew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. Hershfield, on May 2,
2007; and also preceded in death by one brother, Donald Laybold; and one sister, Joy
Harlan. She was a retired registered nurse and director of nursing at Union Hospital. She
was a graduate of Prairie Creek High School, Union Hospital School of Nursing and Indiana
State University. In 1989 she was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni from ISU, and was
a member of Terre Haute First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at DeBaun
Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, at 7 p.m. today, with the Rev. Mark Grayless
officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, in the funeral home. Burial will be at a
later date in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family suggests memorial contributions be
made to Indiana State School of Nursing or Union Hospital, in her memory.  
Topping, Martha Jean Cook   

Martha Jean Cook Topping, 85, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Terre Haute, passed away
peacefully on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009. She was born Nov. 13, 1924, to Thomas and
Elizabeth John Perry of New Goshen. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother,
Donald; infant son, Steven Cook; and her husband, Walter C. CookMartha was active in
the Republican Party and served as national committeewoman in 1965. She worked at
several clerical positions in state and local government. She was manager of The Lisbon
Dress Shop, and manager of the Terre Haute Waffle House, prior to retiring in Bradenton.
She was a member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church.She is survived by son
James Cook and wife Vicki, and granddaughters Kristi Cook, and Megan Gomberg and
husband Matt; son, Jay Cook and wife Marolyn, and grandsons, Eric Cook and wife
Cassandra, and Gabriel Cook; granddaughters, Sara Simmons and husband Will, and
Brandy Ellingsworth and husband Peter; and great-grandchildren, Grace Simmons, Liam
Ellingsworth and Alexandra Cook.Cremation is scheduled in Bradenton. There will be a
memorial service for family members at a later date in Terre Haute. Those who wish may
make a contribution in her name to Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, or the M.S.
Society. Covell Funeral Home in Bradenton assisted with arrangements.  
Riso, Pietrina    

CLINTON — Miss Pietrina Riso, 97, passed away on Nov. 20, 2009, in Buckner Retirement
Village of Dallas, where she had been a resident since October 2007. She was born in
Clinton on Dec. 25, 1911, the oldest daughter of Agatino and Calogera Fasciana Riso.She
was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Rosina Crane of Rosedale, and
Violette Gozden of Clinton. Two brothers-in-law, Woodrow Crane and Mike Gozden, also
preceded her in death."Pat," as she was known to her friends, worked in Civil Service for
many years and was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in Clinton.She is survived
by two nieces, Mary Ann Maher (Ed) of Clinton, and Diane Williams (Ronn) of Dallas; one
nephew, Steve Crane (Donella) of Rosedale; along with two great-nieces, Kara Waldrop
(Bart) of Clinton, and Gina Kuhn (David) of Terre Haute; four great-nephews, Todd Crane
(Amy) of Rosedale, John Williams of Dallas, Michael Williams (Melissa) of Amarillo, and
Anthony Williams (Meagan) of Dallas; along with several great-great-nieces and great-
great-nephews.Graveside services will be held on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at 3 p.m. in the
chapel at Roselawn Memorial Park, with Father John Bamman officiating. There will be no
visitation. Local arrangements were handled by Frist Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to one's favorite charity.  
Tosser Jr., Lloyd O.    

Lloyd O. Tosser Jr., 79, of Terre Haute, died at Terre Haute Regional Hospital on Dec. 2,
2009. Born in Vermilion, Ill., on June 30, 1930, he was the son of Lloyd and Mary Edith
(Maynard) Tosser. He had taught at both Indiana State University and Ivy Tech Community
College in Terre Haute, and also was in sales at B and A Electronics. He was an U.S. Army
veteran of the Korean War. On Feb. 3, 1950, he married Evelyn (Weust) Tosser, and she
survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy Hall of Terre Haute, and Linda McClure
and her husband Russell of Indianapolis; three sons, Lloyd Tosser III of Indianapolis,
Monte Tosser and Craig Tosser, both of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Lloyd Tosser IV,
Brandon Hall, Sarah Hall, Katharine McClure, and Ethan Tosser. He was preceded in
death by his parents; one sister, Margaret Singhurst; and two brothers, Ansel Tosser and
Winfred (Buff) Tosser. He had been a longtime active member of the Boy Scouts of
America, where he also was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. Silver Beaver memorial
service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive,
then his son, Lloyd Tosser III, will deliver the eulogy. Friends may call on Friday from 9
a.m. until service time. For those who choose, memorial contributions may be made to the

McDowell, Gerald E.    

MECCA — Gerald E. McDowell, 80, of Mecca, died 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at
Union Hospital-Clinton. He was employed at Columbia House in Terre Haute for 25 years
and retired from Bearings Inc. of Terre Haute with six years of service. He was born Aug.
16, 1929, in Universal to the late Virgil L. McDowell and Bertha Rippy McDowell. He is
survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Jane Nowling McDowell, whom he married Nov. 26,
1953, in Universal. Other survivors include one daughter, Suzanne Gill and her husband
Patrick of Hillsdale; one sister, Betty McDowell of Richmond; one brother, Joe McDowell
and his wife Myrt of Clinton; two grandchildren, Brandon and Kendall Gill of Hillsdale; one
sister-in-law, June McDowell of Universal; six brothers-in-law, Art Nowling and his wife Mary
Ruth of Clinton, Joe Nowling of Rockville, Don Nowling and his wife Karen of Waynetown,
John Nowling of Mecca, twins Kenny Nowling and Karl Nowling, both of Indianapolis; and
several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by one brother, James
McDowell Sr.; and one sister-in-law, Joan Nowling. He was a 1947 graduate of Clinton High
School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member
of Mecca Christian Church and served as the church superintendent for more than 25
years. He was an active member of the Mecca Historical Society. Services are 10 a.m.
Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 West Howard St., in Rockville, with
Pastor Tim Guoli officiating. Entombment will follow services in Chapel of Memories
Mausoleum in Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute, with military honors by Parke
County Veterans. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, at Gooch Funeral Home. Memorials,

Fuller, Waneta A.    

Waneta A. Fuller, 93, of Terre Haute, died Friday evening, Dec. 4, 2009, in Union
Hospital. She had worked as a press operator for Felix Cleaners. She was born June 2,
1916, in Terre Haute, to Charles and Addie Fulford. Her husband, Clarence B. "Lefty"
Fuller, preceded her in death in 1992.Survivors include her daughter, LouAnn Singleton
of Terre Haute; her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Joan Fuller of Terre Haute; three
grandchildren, Rhonda Larison, Rodney Singleton and Julie Schalburg; eight
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She
also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Darrell Fulford; a sister, Ruby Hout;
and a son-in-law, Peter Singleton.Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday,
Dec. 7, 2009, in Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with Pastor Larry
Spear officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled prior to
services on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  
Pierce, Shirley A.    

Shirley A. Pierce, 73, of Terre Haute, passed away Dec. 5, 2009, at Union Hospital. Born
May 19, 1936, in Vigo County, she was the daughter of Raymond Gatewood and Rose V.
(Sheese) Gatewood. Shirley graduated from Garfield High School and worked at Midland
Glass for many years. She loved bowling, cooking, taking care of others and spending
time with her sidekick, Tigger her dog. She was a former member of Fraternal Order of
Eagles. Survivors include the love of her life, Billy W. Pierce Sr.; her seven children,
Edward Pierce and wife Brenda of Leavenworth, Kans., Darby Fleming and husband
Barney of Jacksonville, Fla., Thomas Pierce, Katherine Dunivan and husband Kenneth, all
of Terre Haute, Sarah Pierce of Jacksonville, Lisa Pierce, and Billy Pierce Jr. and wife
Angie, all of Terre Haute; 12 grandchildren, Kristen, Jason, Wesley, Amy, Kelly, Brandy,
Paul, LeeAnn, Stephanie, Leandra, Christopher and Chloe; 14 great-grandchildren; two
sisters, Susan Fort and husband Timothy, and Jenny Harvey and husband Bill, all of Terre
Haute; and many nieces and nephews. Her parents; and two brothers, Johnny Gatewood
and Raymond Jr. "Cricket" Gatewood, preceded her in death.Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1
p.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. Services are at 1 Tuesday
at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Robinson, Geraldine "Geri"  

Geraldine "Geri" Robinson, 81, of Terre Haute, passed away at 3:17 a.m. Tuesday, Dec.
8, 2009, at Davis Gardens Health Center. She was born April 3, 1928, in St. Francois
County, Mo., to Everett and Grace Dowers. She is survived by three sons, James, Richard,
and Kenneth Robinson; two brothers, James and Charles Dowers; seven grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at
Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette Ave., with visitation from 11 a.m. until
services Thursday. Officiating will be the Rev. Bill Herb, with entombment at Roselawn
Memorial Chapel.  
McMurray, Nellie G.  

Nellie G. McMurray, 88, of Terre Haute, died at 5:15 p.m., Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Union
Hospital. Born in Brazil, one of eight children, Nellie attended Van Buren High School. She
was a local businesswoman, working at Thompson's Restaurant for 35 years. Nellie was
generous, family-oriented, and funny. She was business savvy, a seamstress, excellent
cook, and gifted singer. She enjoyed working puzzle books, watching college basketball,
and the Indiana Pacers. Preceding her in death was her husband of 63 years, William T.
McMurray; and her lovely daughter, Patricia Thompson.She is survived by siblings, Virgil
Landes and wife Mary, Albert Landes, and Emma Skomp; her son, John McMurray;
son-in-law, Forrest Thompson; four grandchildren, Scott McMurray and wife Rachael, and
wife Susan; 11 great-grandchildren, Kaylin, Reagan, Cassidy, Brayden, Kyeton, Landen,
Tristan, Haliah, Zerrick, Eli, and Cory.Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Roselawn
Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St.. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, in the funeral home,
with Pastor Thomas Manbeck officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Ross, Jack R.    

Jack R. Ross, 85, of Terre Haute, passed away Dec. 7, 2009, at Methodist Hospital in
Indianapolis. Born July 21, 1924, in Newton, Ill., he was the son of Ralph Ross and Jessie
(Hanna) Ross. He married Dorothy Hall, and she preceded him in death. Jack served in
the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He then managed Al's Texaco for many years. He
retired from Loehser and Sons Auto Supply. He was a member of North Side Community
United Methodist Church. He spent a lot of time with Catholic Charities and working in the
Food Bank. Jack also loved working on cars. Survivors include four children, Deborah
Funkhouser, Ralph Ross and wife Kathy, Mark Ross and wife Marsha, all of Terre Haute,
and Margaret Jenkins and husband Tony of Chicago; six grandchildren, Ryan
Funkhouser, Amber Starr, Amy Ross, Abby Dierdorf, Lacey Bentley and Lucas Ross; eight
great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Ross of Terre Haute. He also was preceded in
death by his parents.. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., at Roselawn Funeral Home,
7500 N. Clinton St., with services at 7 p.m. Pastor Frank Oakman will be officiating. Burial
will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Southerland, Richard   

Richard "Dick" Southerland, 89, of Terre Haute, passed away at 11:25 p.m. Monday Dec.
7, 2009, at Royal Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Aug. 24, 1920,
to Richard and Letha Southerland in Terre Haute.He is survived by his wife, Mabel Howell
Southerland; one stepson, Larry Alder; one stepdaughter, Bonnie Crew and husband Dan;
several stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren, and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and retired from Alcan in 1983. Richard
was an avid woodworker, and an amateur radio operator. He was a member of Forrest
Park Baptist ChurchHe was preceded in death by his first wife, Alma Southerland; his
parents; one sister, Francis Rogers; and a stepson, William Alder. Services are 11 a.m.
Friday at Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home, 602 S. Seventh St., with visitation Thursday from 4
to 7 p.m. The Rev. Gene Jeffers will be officiating. Burial is at Roselawn Memorial Park,
with graveside military honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972.  

Edward Charles Fitzpatrick, 92, of Terre Haute, passed away Dec. 7, 2009, in Union
Hospital. He was born on July 22, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo., to Emma Lee Foster and
Edward Charles Fitzpatrick Sr. He worked as a manager for McGregor Business Men's
Club, and later as a butcher for Highland Grocery Store. He also worked as a manager for
Molter's, the first IGA store in Terre Haute.Known as "Uncle Eddie" to family and friends, he
was preceded in death by his parents; seven siblings, Gerald Fitzpatrick, Elmer Fitzpatrick,
Dorothy Bernice Fitzpatrick, James Joseph Fitzpatrick, Elizabeth Winifred Fitzpatrick,
Vernon Kent Fitzpatrick, and Geraldine Greenlee Jones; a nephew, Raymond H.
Fitzpatrick, whom he lived with since 1972, and a great-nephew, Raymond H. Fitzpatrick
Jr.He is survived by his special caregiver and niece-in-law, Mary Fitzpatrick of Terre Haute,
whom he has lived with for many years; great-niece, Debbie Marr and family of Huntsville,
Ala.; niece, Sherry Kay Wilson and husband Richard of Terre Haute; nephew, Gary Jones
and wife Deanna of Terre Haute; great-nephew, Terry Lee Lloyd and family of Terre
Haute; and several other nieces, nephews, and many loving friends.Visitation will be from
11:30 a.m. to noon Monday in Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be at noon Monday in
the funeral home with Pastor Rebecca Zelensky officiating.  
Cunning, Rose E.    

Rose E. Cunning, 87, died at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Meadows Manor East.
She was the daughter of Edward McAllister and Lottie B. Laney McAllister. Her husband of
65 years, Robert Cunning, preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by her
parents.Survivors include three sons, Robert E. Cunning and wife Jane, Frank J. Cunning
and wife Lyn, Scott A. Cunning and wife Starla; one daughter, Leanne Doolittle and
husband Jerry of Terre Haute; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.She was a member of Nevins Township Home Economic Club, Eighth
Avenue Baptist Church, and was a Sunday school teacher for 30 years.Services are 7 p.m.
Friday at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette Ave., with Pastor Dick Smith
officiating. Visitation is 3 p.m. until services Friday. Private burial will be at a later date.  

Ruth E. Wilson, 94, of Vincennes, and formerly of Terre Haute died Tuesday evening, Dec.
8, 2009, in The New Willow Manor Nursing Home in Vincennes. She had formerly worked
for Quaker Maid, Inc. She was born on June 17, 1915, in Montezuma, to Asher Thomas
Stribling and Sabina Harriet "Hattie" Dearing Stribling. Her husband, Virgil P. Wilson,
preceded her in death in 1977.Survivors include a sister, Mayme Kennedy of Jacksonville,
Fla.; several nieces; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; two
brothers, Joseph Stribling and Asher Junior Stribling; and two sisters, June McPheeters
and Rhoda Stribling.Ruth was a 1933 graduate of Montezuma High School and was a
member of Terre Haute Bible Center.Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, in Roselawn Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Pastor Jerry
Nash officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn. There is no visitation. Arrangements are under
the direction of Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. If friends

Rosemary Fox, 84, of Brea, Calif. passed away on Dec. 4, 2009. She is survived by a
cousin, Gary Jones; sister-in-law, Pat Fox; nephew D. Craig Fox; nieces, Karyn Fox and
Fox, and many other nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on
Saturday in Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be 2 p.m. on Saturday at in the funeral
home with Pastor Ray Leach officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Rosemary L. Fread, 84, of Terre Haute, passed away at 8:07 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10,
2009, in Union Hospital. She was born in Terre Haute, on Sept. 15, 1925, to Oscar F.
Kipple and Leah Coleman Kipple.She is survived by two sons, William Michael Fread and
wife Janet of Kenner, La., and Patrick E. Fread and wife Robin of Boonville. Also surviving
is one grandson, James M. Fread of San Diego. Other survivors include three nieces; three
death by her husband of 48 years, Jerry P. Fread, who passed away Aug. 26, 1994; her
parents; and two brothers, Eugene R. Kipple D.D.S., and William "Bill" Kipple. Her parents;
and two brothers, Eugene R. Kipple D.D.S., and William "Bill" Kipple. Her memberships
include St. Benedict Catholic Church, Phi Beta Psi Sorority, Why Me, memberships include
St. Benedict Catholic Church, Phi Beta Psi Sorority, Why Me, Women's Auxiliary of the
Sycamore Club, and Elks Lodge 86 BPOE. She loved traveling, Women's Auxiliary of the
Sycamore Club, and Elks Lodge 86 BPOE. She loved traveling, working in her yard and
being outdoors, and loved spending time with her dear friends, and was also an avid sports
fan, with the Colts and Pacers being her favorite teams. Mass of Christian burial will be
Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at 12:05 p.m. in St. Benedict Catholic Church with Father Joel
Burget officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is today, Dec. 14,
2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. in Callahan DeBaun Funeral Home, 25th and Wabash, with a prayer
service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the funeral
home. The family suggests for those who desire, memorial contributions be made to the
Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Wabash Valley Affiliate, 910 E. Barbara Lane, Terre Haute,

McCullough, Linda S. Kellett    

Linda S. Kellett McCullough returned to the arms of her Heavenly Father at 10:30 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, surrounded by her family and friends at her home. She was born
Aug. 11, 1951, in Terre Haute, to Thomas Kellett Jr. and Myrtle Bemis Kellett. She was
preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; one sister, Irene Kellett; and a brother,
Lawrence Gene Byers.Survivors include one daughter, Angela Hakman of Terre Haute;
three grandchildren, Jessica Hakman, Derek Hakman and Tera Hakman, all of Terre Haute;
three sisters, Rose Marie Jones (Richard) of St. George, Utah, Connie Guerin (Darrell) of
Terre Haute, and Brenda McCullough of Rolla, Mo.; several nieces, nephews; and one
cousin, Christina Kellett.She was employed by the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 291.
She also was a member for several years and was currently the president of the FOE
Women's Auxiliary. Linda enjoyed music, dancing, bingo and tending bar. She had many
friends and loved to make others laugh.The family would like to give special thanks to her
best friend, Dawn McAdams, for sticking by her side for a long courageous battle. Also
special friend, Helen Lively, whom we love dearly, and all her other thoughtful friends.Also
we would like to recognize her oncologist, Dr. Chandra Reddy, an angel walking here on
earth, in her family's eyes. Also thank you to VistaCare who helped her family fulfill her
wishes. Flowers are welcome, however donations to VistaCare in memory of Linda
McCullough would be greatly appreciated.Services are 2 p.m. today at Roselawn Funeral

Lowry, Gladys Marie    

CLINTON — On Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at 4:55 a.m., Gladys Marie Lowry joined her
husband, Robert Lee Lowry, and parents, Frank and Ann (Vargas) Bodnar, in the hands of
the Lord. She had lost a long and spirited battle with myelodysplastic syndrome. Gladys
also was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Kathleen Lowry, sisters, Agnes Lehman,
Anna Bodnar, Susan Bodnar, Mary Keller, Betty Williams, Helen (Pee Wee) Archer; and
brothers, George Bodnar, Frank Bodnar and Mike Bodnar.She is survived by two sons, Kirt
and Mark Lowry; daughter-in-law, Pam Lowry; grandchildren, Sierra, Alexis, Vanessa and
Jordan Lowry; two sisters-in-law, Marie Bodnar and Beulah Bodnar; brother-in-law, Wayland
Archer; and several nieces and nephews. She also took great-pride in being called
"Grandma Gladys" by the numerous children of friends and family who frequented her
house.She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Veterans of Foreign Wars
Auxiliary, and the Clinton Boat Club. As she requested no funeral will be held. A memorial
service will be in the Chapel of Memories at Roselawn Memorial Park, in Terre Haute, at 1 p.
m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, with Pastor Danny Caulkins officiating. Burial of her ashes will
follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Frist Funeral Home, in Clinton, is in charge of
arrangements. She asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Riley Children's
Hospital in Indianapolis.  
Emmert, Robert H.   

Robert H. Emmert, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away at 2:50 p.m. Dec. 2, 2009, at Meadows
Manor North. He was born Jan. 12, 1921, in Brazil, to Charles R. Emmert and Ruth
Emmert.He is survived by his wife, Pauline Emmert; one son, Robert C. Emmert; one

Harriett M. Fouts, 90, of Greenwood, and formerly of Terre Haute, passed away Dec. 15,
2009, at University Heights Health and Living Community, in Indianapolis. She was born on
Aug. 20, 1919, in West Terre Haute, to John and Jeanie Elliott.She is survived by her three
children, Willard "Duke" Fouts Jr. and wife Libbie of Greenwood, Charles Fouts and wife
Gloria of California, and David Fouts and wife Linda of Hawaii. Also surviving are seven
grandchildren and their families, Lori Ann Webb of Avon, Clay Fouts and Craig Fouts, both
of Portland, Ore., Scott Fouts of Fairfield, Calif., Monica Fouts of Honolulu, Cara Kicchens
of San Diego, and Henry Fouts of Maine; and three great-grandchildren, Kylee, Mason and
Meadow.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard Fouts Sr.; and

Harry D. Cash, 94, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at 12:20 p.m., at
Royal Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 4, 1915, in
Clarksville, Ill., to Clyde Cash and Maude Marrs Cash. He was a graduate of Garfield High
School. He was the former owner of Cash and Kennedy Construction and was in the
construction business foR more than 60 years. He was a member of Northside Community
United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Adeline Stokes
Cash, who passed away in 2002; his daughter, Jane Coleman, who passed away in July
2009; two grandchildren; Avid Dale Slover and Rhonda Jane Slover; and his brother, Fred
Cash. He is survived by his brother, Earl Cash and wife Cheryl of Terre Haute; one
grandson, Michael Slover of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial
services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N.

MECCA — Russell L. Sanders, 84, of Mecca, passed away at 1:03 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18,
2009, in his residence. He was born on Jan. 27, 1925, in Mecca, the son of Ren Sanders
and Edith Done Sanders. He retired from public Service Indiana, serving as a local
representative.He was a member of the Mecca Weslyan Church, Mecca Historical Society,
Mecca A.R.A.B.S. He was a longtime coach for Mecca Softball and served as assistant
coach for softball at Riverton-Park. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He
dedicated his retirement life to the restoration and upkeep of the Mecca School and the
Mecca softball diamonds. He was a graduate of Mecca High School Class of 1943. He was
preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel Sanders, on June 4, 2008; and three
brothers, Bill, Collett and Danny Sanders.He is survived by son and daughter-in-law,
Ronnie and Judy Sanders of Mecca; grandchildren, Angie Bullington, Toby (Colleen)
Sanders , Punkin Sanders, Jenny (Brian) Benjamin, Jeremy (Emily) Bettis and Jason Bettis;
11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Ann (Owen) Harper of Mecca.Services are 10 a.

Audrey I. Davis Brown. She was a 1945 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School. She was
married to her husband, Foster Eugene Cooper for 45 years. She was a homemaker and
an avid seamstress. She was a member of Cross Lane Community Church. She was
preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who passed away in 1991; and her
daughter, Sandra Pulmane, who passed away in 2003. She is survived by her son, Donald
Cooper and wife Kelley of Terre Haute; three daughters, Patricia Zigler and husband Ken,

Janice L. Hartmann, 62, of Terre Haute, passed away at 10:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009,
in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born in Cuba, Ill., on Dec. 9, 1947, to John
Megenhardt and Mary Ellen Smith Megenhardt.She is survived by her husband, David
Hartmann, whom she married Aug. 13, 1971; one daughter, Michelle Myers and husband
Brian; and one son, Jon Hartmann. Other survivors include a grandson, Alec Myers; one
aunt, Betty French; and cousins Mark, Maureen, and Matthew Moore, as well as several
other family members.She was a member of Pimento Order of Easter Star Chapter 516,
Shelburn American Legion Post 197, a member of the Linton Township Trustees Advisory
Board, longtime member of the Wabash Valley Fair Association, was very active with Vigo
County 4-H, where she was a longtime announcer for the livestock shows, also was
superintendent of the 4-H Round-Robin Showmanship Contest, and a 4-H livestock judging
coach, and enjoyed spending time with her many friends.Funeral services will be in DeBaun
Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, with the Rev.

Roberts; her daughter, Paula Jean Roberts; and granddaughter, Leslie Erin Roberts.She is

Chad Allen Nance, 25, of Terre Haute, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 19,
2009. He was born Dec. 6, 1984, in Terre Haute, to James Eugene and Janet (Bendekovich)
Nance. Chad worked at Bemis as an operator for five years. He was a 2003 graduate of
Terre Haute North Vigo High School. He enjoyed reading and listening to music, and was a
Colts and Cardinals fan. His one and only daughter was his pride and joy. He was preceded
in death by his maternal grandfather, Anthony Bendekovich.Surviving are his parents; his
precious daughter, Natalie H. Nance; two special brothers, Justin and Landon Nance;
maternal grandmother, Anna Bendekovich; and paternal grandparents, Bob and Linda Mix.

Norma J Stoops, 87, of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, in her home.
She was born Sept. 3, 1922, to Carl D. Jeffers and Elizabeth Armstrong Jeffers. She was a
member of Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, and a retired secretary from the Life
Sciences Department of Indiana State University. She was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband, Edgar L. Stoops, whom she married Feb. 21, 1942; and her brother,
Harold L. Jeffers. Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca L. Compton and husband Kerry
G. Compton of Terre Haute; two grandsons, Glendon M. Compton and Matthew L. Compton,
both of Terre Haute; two great-grandsons, Alex Michael Compton and Loren Davis
Compton; and many nieces and nephews. Celebration of life services will be at 11 a.m.

Donald R. McClintock, 79, of Terre Haute, passed away Dec. 23, 2009, in his residence. He
was born on Sept. 19, 1930, in Vigo County, the son of Grover McClintock and Myrtle
(McAdams) McClintock. He married Carol I. Strong and she survives. Donald retired from
P.S.I., where he worked in the control room. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge.
He was a present member of the New Covenant Fellowship Church. His hobbies included
bowling, gardening, yard work and reading. Survivors include his wife, Carol I. McClintock; a
son, Mark McClintock and wife Robin of Terre Haute; two daughters, Pamela Myers of Terre
Haute and Cheryl Meek and husband Bruce of Michigan; seven grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Moore of Terre Haute and Joan Gwin of New
Jersey; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two
brothers, Jack and Wayne McClintock; and a sister, Helen Riggs. Visitation will be from 10

James J. Redman, 92, of Terre Haute, died at 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009 in
Royal Oaks Nursing Home. James was born on Feb. 20, 1917 in Terre Haute, to James
Redman and Laura DeHart Redman. James served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He
married Vivian Joyce Mueller. He was co-owner and vice president of Mace
Petroleum.James is survived by his son, Alan Redman and his wife Becky of Terre Haute;
granddaughter, Susan Edington and her husband Paul; two great-grandsons, Ryan Bose
and Braden Edington; several nieces and nephews; special cousins, Joann Kehoe and
Barbara Strange; and a special friend Dorothy Dewey. James was preceded in death by his
wife, Vivian Joyce Redman, on June, 8, 2005; both parents; a young son, Jimmie Redman;
and a sister, Ida Mae Swanson. He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons, William
Penn Lodge, and he enjoyed traveling.Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 27
at Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave. Funeral services will be conducted
at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 28th at the funeral home, with the Rev. Abe Miller

Edward Lee Wilson (Eddie), 69, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully at home on Friday,
Dec. 25, 2009. A devoted family man, patriotic American and old-fashioned gentleman,
Eddie was born in Terre Haute, on Aug. 26, 1940, to Joseph Franklin Wilson Sr. and Alice
Marie Fisk Wilson. A graduate of Gerstmeyer High School, Class of 1960, Eddie joined the
U.S. Army in 1963, and served with the 5th Division until 1969. He was a lifelong member of
the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.Survivors include his wife, Gloria Massey
Wilson; his mother, Alice; son, Matthew (Tera); daughter, Patty Butterfield and husband
Byron; grandchildren, Brody Lassiter, Jacob and Jonah Wilson, and Jordan and Sarah
Butterfield; brother, Joseph Jr. (Carolyn); sisters, Mary (Edward) Holstine and Donna (David)
Alvis; brother-in-law, Jack (Judy) Edwards; stepchildren and stepgrandchildren; and a large
extended family.He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Sr.; first wife, Sarah Seidell
Wilson; and sister, Patricia Edwards.Proud of his accomplishments, as a machinist, Ed
retired in 2002 from Jones Tool and Machine Company, after 37 years of employment. He
enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and was an avid Indiana University basketball fan. His
hobbies included gardening, traveling, driving his Corvette and spending time with his
grandchildren.The family extends its sincerest thanks to VistaCare Hospice, who made it
possible for Eddie to leave the hospital and be with his family at home during his last

Fred E. Harrah, 84, of Terre Haute, passed away Dec. 26, 2009, at Community North
Hospital in Indianapolis. Born June 24, 1925, in Terre Haute, he was the son of Fred Harrah
and June (Campbell) Harrah. He married Janette Elliott, and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Douglas Harrah; three grandsons, Ryan, Elliot and Jacob Harrah; a
brother, Max T. Harrah; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services are 1 p.m.

CLINTON — Barbara Marietta, 76, of Clinton, died at 8:40 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at
Vermillion Convalescent Center. She was born May 4, 1933, in Brazil, to Arthur R. Meadows
and Leatha E. King, stepfather, Wayne King.Barb and her husband Gene were the original
owners/operators of the Breezeway and Family drive-in theaters, from the mid 1950s to the
early 1970s, when they sold the theaters and opened Marietta Flowers and Gifts. From 1976
to 1980, Gene and Barb were the local Century 21 Real Estate franchisees. From 1981
through 1996, the Mariettas operated multiple Nutri-System franchise locations, including
Danville, Ill., and Lafayette.She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Marietta,
whom she married July 20, 1957, who died Aug. 9, 2009. She also was preceded in death by
her stepfather; and a brother, Bill Meadows.Survivors include a son, Kevin Marietta and his
wife Mary Kay of Hamilton, Ohio; three daughters, Toni Gilman and her husband Tim of
Clinton, Debbi Granger of Zionsville, and Terri Price and her husband Brian of Avon; nine
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Arthur E. Meadows and his wife
Norma of Terre Haute; and several nieces, nephews and cousins She was a member of

Lach-Marcinko. She was an administrative assistant at Eli Lilly and Company. She was a
member of Sacred Heart Church. Her husband, Lt. Col., Michael A. Cvengros, whom she
married Oct. 12, 1940, died Nov. 28, 1994. Survivors include two sons, James Michael
Cvengros, and Paul Robert Cvengros, both of Redwood Shores, Calif.; a granddaughter,
Margaret Czapiewsky; sisters, Helen Sungaila of Clinton, and Josephine Burton of Livonia,
Mich.; brother, Steve Marcinko of Sarasota, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. She also
was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Katherine Fenoglio and Mary Kretler; and

Marjorie Jane Turner, 86, of Terre Haute, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec.
28, 2009, in her residence. Born on Nov. 11, 1923, in Terre Haute, the daughter to William
Ernest Danner and Willa Jean (Mendenhall) Danner. She married Edward Booth Turner, and
he preceded her in death. Marjorie worked as secretary to the base commander at the
Indiana Air National Guard for 15 years. She was a member of the National Society of
Colonial Dames XVII Century, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Terre Haute
Bridge Center for many years. She was also a former member of the Women's Dept. Club
and a lifelong member of United Methodist Church since the "Cradle Roll." Survivors include
three daughters, Deborah McQueen, Carol Tolin and husband Jim and Pam Nicoulin and
husband Nick, all of Terre Haute; five grandchildren, John Webster and wife Angie of
Colorado, Kimberly Mier and husband Brent, Kristin Deady and husband Mark, Steve Tolin,

Carolina.; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by her parents; husband, Richard C. Lane; daughter, Judith Ross; and son-in-law
Dorance Ross. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m., at Roselawn Funeral Home,
7500 N. Clinton St., with services are at 11 a.m., with Pastor Richard Burcham officiating.
Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
