Ripple, Jenna Jean
Jenna Jean Ripple, 6 months, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Peyton Manning Children's
Hospital in Indianapolis, due to complications from congenital heart disease. She was born
in Terre Haute, on Jan. 16, 2009, the daughter of Kenneth Ray Ripple and Jennifer Jean
Hickman Ripple. Jenna's parents are active members of Christ Community Church in
Brazil. Even though her time here on earth was short, Jenna's journey has touched the
lives of many. Her fighting spirit and sweet smile will be remembered for a lifetime.Jenna
leaves behind her loving parents; her big brother, Lleyton Ripple, all of Terre Haute;
maternal grandparents, Gary and Deborah Hickman of Vigo County; paternal
grandparents, Max and Karen Ripple of Staunton; great-grandmother, Mary Nidiffer of
Terre Haute; uncle, Brian Ripple; aunts, Angie Childress and Tresa Alton and husband
Joey; four cousins; and a host of friends and loyal prayer supporters.Services are Monday
at 11 a.m. in Christ Community Church, 10942 N. St. Rd. 59, Brazil, with Pastor Rich
Laskowski officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is Sunday
from 4 to 8 p.m. in the church and again Monday one hour prior to services. The family
suggests memorial contributions be made in her honor to Christ Community Church;
Caringbridge.org; or to their memorial of choice. French Funeral Home, 421 E. National
Ave., Brazil, was entrusted with arrangements.

Ryder, Nannie M. Grizzel
Nan was born Nov. 29, 1919, in War, W.Va., to Harrison and Julia Altizer. She was the
oldest of seven children, having two sisters and four brothers. She was preceded in death
by her parents; a sister, Theada; and brothers, James and Bailey. She is survived by her
sister, Grace Sanders of Terre Haute, and two brothers, J.C. Altizer of Cedar Bluff, Va.,
and Olan Altizer of Tazwell, Va. She married Frank Grizzel Sr. in 1940, and he preceded
her in death in 1968. She is survived by their four children, Judy (Paul) Harbaugh of Terre
Haute; Frank Grizzel Jr. of Terre Haute, Larry (Sharon) Grizzel Sr. of Jasonville and Sue
Brocker of Clinton; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-
grandchildren. Nan married Guy Ryder in 1976 and he preceded her in death in 1985.
She moved to the Terre Haute area in 1960 and was employed at Packard Shirt
Manufacturing Company until the company closed. She was then employed at Allstate
Vending Company until she retired in 1988. Nan was an active member of Eighth Avenue
Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess and helped in the kitchen. She
attended the Friendly Circle Sunday school class and looked forward to their monthly class
fellowships. She was an avid bowler and was well-known in the Terre Haute area for her
many awards, including president/secretary award, Senior Bowler of the Year, and
Secretary of the Year on two occasions. She was a member of the Women's Bowling
League, the church bowling league and the Friday Senior Citizen Bowling League. She
carried a high series of 640 and a high game of 278. She has numerous trophies, pins
and patches — too many to list!She was an all-around sports fan (baseball, basketball and
football) and especially loved the Indianapolis Colts and attended their training camp. She
also enjoyed embroidering and crafts of all kinds, and was a doll collector, with 75 dolls in
her collection. She took great pride in her gardening and especially loved red geraniums.
She loved to travel and especially enjoyed Branson, Mo. Her family looked forward to her
cooking and she was well-known for her biscuits and gravy, spaghetti and peanut butter
pie. Nan passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Union Hospital with her children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren by her side. She was a loving mother and
grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends, but all rest in the fact that
she is with her Lord and Savior. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Roselawn
Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday with visitation
from 9 to 11 a.m. at Eighth Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Dick Smith and Monte
Vincent officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Searing, Donna K.
UNIVERSAL — Donna K. Searing, 70, of Universal, Ind. passed away at 7:58 p.m., on July
29, 2009 in Union Hospital at Terre Haute, Ind. She was born July 24, 1939, at Libertyville,
Ind. the daughter of Shirley Lamb and Melvia Warner-Lamb, she was raised by her
grandparents, Oscar and Elva Lamb. She retired from First Citizens State Bank in Clinton,
in Jan. 2002 after 28 years of service. She was a member of St. Joseph Church at
Universal, and a 1958 graduate of Clinton High School.She is survived by her husband,
Garry Searing of Universal, whom she married on June 25, 1960; daughter, Marla Searing
of Clinton; brother, Ron (Sherry) Lamb of West Terre Haute; her special mother-in-law,
Rose Mary Searing of Universal; sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret "Sissy" Benefield
and Ron Frink of Universal, Billie Jo and George Anderson of Clinton, Janice and Mark
Uselman of Centenary, Ind.; special cousin, Ron (Jo Ann) Vallosia of Hillsdale, Ind.; uncle,
Bill (Lois) Lamb of Libertyville, Ind. and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by her parents and grandparents; father-in-law, Charles "Rags" Searing and
brother-in-law, James Patrick Searing.A prayer service will be at 10:45 a.m. Monday at
Karanovich Giovanini Funeral Home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in
Sacred Heart Church, at Clinton with Father Simon Thomas officiating. Visitation is 3 to 8 p.
m., with Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn

Greenwell, Vera M.
Vera M. Greenwell, 84, passed away on Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at 5:04 a.m. at Union
Hospital. She was born to George Myers and Blanch Foltz, in Vigo County. She retired
from Indiana State University. She was married to William Greenwell for 42 years, he
passed away in 2003. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and Wabash Valley
Scottish Society. Preceding her in death was her parents, George and Blanch Myers; her
husband, William; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Greenwell.Surviving are her daughter,
Barbara Cooper and her husband Richard of Terre Haute; Chris Brammer, a special
cousin from Austin, Texas; Jim and Judy Greenwell, brother-in-law and his wife; a niece,
Lillie Hutchings of Terre Haute; a nephew, Ty Greenwell; Cathy Lee, daughter of Richard
Cooper of Terre Haute.Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home,
4660 N. Lafayette, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Blackburn, Harold
Harold Blackburn, 79, of West Terre Haute, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 1,
2009, in Union Hospital. He was born on June 17, 1931, in New Goshen, to Marion
Blackburn and Helen (Collins) Blackburn. He married his wife of 57 years, Jill A. (Nugent)
Blackburn and she survives. He served in the U.S. Army 1st Calvary Division during the
Korean War. He was a farmer for over 30 years. He liked to travel in his motor home with
his children and grandchildren. His hobbies included fishing and camping. He devoted his
life to his family and grandchildren. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 972, a member of the American Legion 104, and the Cross Tabernacle Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Patrick Blackburn; sisters, Gertrude "Trudy" Nawrocki,
Doris and Bill Hill, Ruth and Sam Ferguson, and Madiline and Johnny Cummings;
grandchildren, Nicole and Joe DiMartini, Justin Burris, Brooke and David Eckrich;
great-grandchildren, Joseph, Sophia, Quinn, Adriana DiMartini, Holden and Iris Eckrich; a
brother-in-law, Jack Nugent of North Fort Myers, Fla.; a special Aunt, Virginia Cotton;
several nieces, nephews; extended family and his dog Taffy. He was preceded in death by
his parents; a brother; two daughters; and a son. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m Wednesday in
Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. Private family services are Thursday, Aug. 6,
2009. American Legion 104 will perform graveside services.

Johnson, Grace Boyll
Grace Boyll Johnson, 85, passed away Friday, July 31, 2009, at Davis Gardens Health
Center, where she had been a resident for the past five years. She was born on Jan. 5,
1924, on a farm near Pimento, to Robert and Elsie Boyll. She graduated from Pimento High
School in 1942. She was a homemaker, a devoted caring wife, mother and
grandmother.Grace married George R. Johnson, on Sept. 4, 1948, and he survives. Also
surviving are her children, a daughter, Paulette D. Friend and husband Tim of
Indianapolis; a son, Mark R. Johnson of Terre Haute; three grandchildren, Jennifer E.
Friend of Las Vegas, twin grandsons, Erik W. Friend of Chicago, and Marine Sergeant
Greg R. Friend stationed in California; Grace's twin sister, Ruth Borst of Indianapolis; and
several nieces, nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by
her parents; two sister, Velora Johnson Abner and Verna Bailey; a brother, Lavon "Bud"
Boyll; a sister-in-law, Mary McPeak Boyll; and three brothers-in-law, Wilbur Johnson, Roe
Abner and Robert Borst.Grace was a lifelong active member of the Oregon Baptist Church
and participated in many church activities. She was the church organist for 45 years, sang
in the choir, was a member of the Women's Missionary Society, charter member for the
former Realtors Wives Association and the Wabash Valley Singing Convention. She
enjoyed music, singing, playing the piano and organ, gardening, cooking, and watching
Indiana State University and Pacers basketball. She was a member of the Crusaders
Gospel Quartet for 22 years. During those years, the Quartet presented many musical
programs throughout the Wabash Valley. In 1962, they won second place in National
Amateur Gospel Quartet Singing Competition held in Memphis, Tenn.Grace's family wishes
to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the nurses and staff of Davis Gardens
Health Center and the Hospice of the Wabash Valley for the excellent care given Grace
while she was a patient there. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests the memorial gifts be
made to the Oregon Baptist Church Building Fund, 11200 S. Carlisle St., Terre Haute, IN
47802, with envelopes available in the church.Services and visitation will be held at
Oregon Baptist Church with visitation beginning at noon, Thursday Aug. 6, 2009. Funeral

Park in Garden of the Good Shepherd with Grace's niece, the Rev. Kim Wood officiating

Nichols, Alice M.
Alice M. Nichols, 87, of Terre Haute, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, in Union Hospital. She
was born on Jan. 23, 1922, in Terre Haute, to Herbert Leslie Hall and Daisy Ring Hall. Alice
was a bookkeeper for the Mental Health Association for 14 years as well as being a
bookkeeper for Model Milk Company and Corner Furniture Store. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Ezra E. Nichols in 1998; a daughter, Marsha Nichols Hauser in
1979; a brother-in-law, Nicholas Plascak; and a nephew, Thomas L. Plascak.Survivors
include two stepsons, Wayne E. Nichols and Donald E. Nichols, both of Terre Haute; a
sister, Mary Plascak of Terre Haute; nieces and nephews, Dr. Nicholas D. Plascak and his
wife Marsue of S.C., Paula M. Walker and her husband Dave of Terre Haute, Dr. John F.
Plascak and his wife Vicki of Lafayette, and Gloria Plascak, widow of Thomas Plascak;
several great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.Alice was
a member of Eastside Church of Christ, the Kerman Cauldron 19 and the Daughters of the
American Revolution. She loved to knit, crochet and bowl.Funeral services will be
conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, in Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 60S S.

Dowen, Scott
Chief Warrant Officer 2 Scott Dowen, U.S.M.C., 9th Communications Battalion, of Camp
Pendleton, Calif., died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 30, 2009, in San Diego. He was
born on March 3, 1974, in Hamilton County, the son of Frank S. Dowen and Janie Daley
Dowen. He attended Lost Creek Elementary, Worthington Junior High School and after
graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, doing his basic training at Paris Island. After
basic training, he was stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C.; Okinawa, Japan; New Orleans,
and then back to Camp Lejeune. He was then sent to MCAS Miramar in San Diego, prior to
his deployment to Iraq. While stationed in Iraq, he was promoted to warrant officer. He
graduated from warrant officer training on May 2007, in Quantico, Va., then back to Camp
Lejeune for the balance of his warrant officer training, graduating October 2007. From
October 2007 until now, Scott was based at Camp Pendleton, San Diego.Scott loved
coming home in the summer to go fishing and playing golf with his favorite fishing and
golfing buddy, his Dad. He also enjoyed driving the Camaro Z-28 as fast as it could go.He
was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James G. Dowen and Alfred Daley; and his
aunt, Margaret "Meg" Stark Dowen. He is survived by his loving daughter, Kori Dowen of
Lawton, Okla. Kori had just returned from two months in San Diego with her dad. Scott is
also survived by his loving parents, Frank S. Dowen and Amy Dowen and Janie and David
Hensley; sisters, Amy S. Connally and her husband Stan of Nashville, Tenn, Ashely N.
Dowen and Elizabeth G. Dowen, both of Fishers, Alexandra Renschler of Worthington,
Ohio and Lisa Behringer and her husband Mike of Terre Haute; three stepbrothers, Matt
Hensley and wife Amy of Norfolk, Va., David Hensley and Mark Hensley, both of Terre
Haute; grandmothers, Mary C. Dowen and Olivene (Benie) Daley; special grandfather,
Papa Ernie Woods; aunts, Carole Nasser and husband Abe and Kathy Wilcoxon and
husband Rick; uncle, James Dowen, Mike Daley and wife Debbie, and Woody Woods and
wife Brenda; very special nieces and nephews Doran Smith, Mya Smith, Shelby Behringer,
Elizabeth Behringer and Brandin BehringerScott loved his family, country, the U.S. Marine

Johnson, Harry
Harry Johnson, husband, father, educator, world traveler, and friend are a few of the
pleasures Harry Johnson enjoyed in life. Born Feb. 15, 1921 in West Terre Haute he grew
up and lived all but three years of his life in Terre Haute. He served his country in the Air
Force during World War II after graduating from Wiley High School, not realizing that 10
years later he would begin a 21 year career teaching high school physics to hundreds of
students at Wiley. He made the move to Vigo County school administration in 1970 where
he stayed until his retirement in 1986.Harry captured the heart of Geraldine Lantz in 1952.
After a June wedding they started a family in the only house they ever lived and remained
there until 2006. He was active in Civil Defense, Isaac Walton League, and the Masons.
Always one for education he and Gerry traveled the world after retirement through the
Elderhostel program learning about the countries they saw.He is survived by his wife of 57
years; his three grown children and theirs spouses; Gayle and Craig Cartwright of
Indianapolis, Eric and Rose Johnson of Carmel, Ind., Craig and Susan Johnson of
Plainfield, Ind. and seven grandchildren, Bailey Cartwright, Amber Johnson, Kip Cartwright,
Alex, Taylor and Christopher Johnson, and Kody Cartwright.Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m.
Friday at DeBaun Funeral Home, First Street and Springhill Road. The funeral will be at 11
a.m. on Saturday in the funeral home. The family requests that any tribute be made to the
Alzheimer's Association or a favorite charity.

Apple, Donna Eileen (Oxendine)
Donna Eileen (Oxendine) Apple, 86, of Terre Haute has gone to be with our lord on
Wednesday Aug. 5, 2009 suddenly from a massive stroke in Regional Hospital. She was
born at home in Vigo County on Nov. 7, 1922 to Oscar and Edna (Clements) Oxendine.
She worked on the family truck farm, Commercial Solvents and retired from Pfizer and
Company in 1983. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. She loved
to eat out with her friends and play cards at the Shady Oak Club House. She was preceded
in death by her husband Clarence Robert (Bob) Apple in 1992, whom she married in 1950;
three brothers, Woody, Olen, and Bill Oxendine, and three sisters, Helen Coppess and
Gladys Oxendine, and Bertha Moeller Reeder. She is survived by a son, Carl Frederick
Apple and his wife Barbara of Riley; two daughters, Barbara Allen of Terre Haute and
Judith Kepler of Indianapolis; one brother, Robert Oxendine of Prairieton; six grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Funeral
services are noon Saturday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with the Rev. Aaron Wheaton
officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Burial will be in

Claycomb, Louise F.
SULLIVAN — Louise F. Claycomb, 82, of Sullivan, passed away Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, in
Miller Merry Manor Nursing Home, in Sullivan. She was born on March 18, 1927, in Terre
Haute, the daughter of Luther Scott and Tressie F. (Heckle) Scott. She married Melvin W.
Claycomb and he preceded her. Louise had worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for DX
Sunray and others also. She was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy in Shelburn
and Sullivan Business and Professional Women. Survivors include three siblings, Robert E.
Scott and wife Cindy and Mary Nelson and husband George, all of Sullivan, and Luther
Scott Jr. and wife Helen of Hutsonville, Ill.; 11 nieces and nephews; 20 great-nieces and
nephews; and many great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her
parents; husband; two sisters, Francis Milam and Mildred Kireta; a brother, Edward Scott;
and a nephew, Wayne Scott. Services are Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Roselawn Funeral
Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with the Rev. Perry Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn
Memorial Park. Visitation is today from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Marietta, Eugene "Gene"
CLINTON — Eugene "Gene" Marietta, 78, of Clinton, died at 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 9, 2009 at
Union Hospital in Clinton. He was born June 25, 1931 in Clinton the son of Anthony and
Emma Moore-Marietta. A second-generation entrepreneur, Gene was the original
owner/operator of the Breezeway and Family drive-in theaters from the mid-1950s to the
early 1970s, when he sold the theaters and opened Marietta Flowers and Gifts with his wife
Barb. From 1976 to 1980, Gene and Barb were the local Century 21 Real Estate
franchisees. From 1981 through 1996, the Mariettas operated multiple Nutri-System
franchise locations, including Danville, Ill. and Lafayette, Ind. Gene was a 1949 graduate of
Clinton High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre
Dame. He was a lifelong resident of Clinton and was very active in the community. Gene
was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the South Vermillion Country Club, Lions Club,
LIFT and various other local organizations. In 1998 Gene and Barb were the Re and
Regina of the Little Italy Festival. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers,
Don and John Wayne.He is survived by his wife, Barbara Meadows of Clinton, whom he
married on July 20, 1957; one son, Kevin Marietta and his wife Mary Kay of Hamilton, Ohio;
three daughters, Terri Price and her husband Brian of Avon, Ind., Toni Gilman and her
husband Tim of Clinton, and Debra Granger of Zionsville, Ind.; one brother, Paul Marietta
of Terre Haute, Ind.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Prayer service will
be at 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Karanovich-Giovanini Funeral Home in Clinton, followed by
Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church in Clinton, with Father

Evola, Clara Maxine
Clara Maxine Evola, 86, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 3, 2009,
in Union Hospital. She was born on Nov. 14, 1922, in Terre Haute, the daughter of Phillip M.
Frew and Verna (Russell) Frew. She married Vincent J. Evola and he survives. She was a
homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She was very
proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Vincent J. Evole Jr. and his
wife Phyllis of Murphreesboro, Tenn., and Larry J. Evola of Terre Haute; a daughter,
Patricia Kellett and husband Dan of Terre Haute; a daughter-in-law, Garnett Evola of
Marshall, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Laura Lester and husband Kenneth of Lebanon, Toni
Evola of Franklin, Tenn., Jay Kellett and wife Jennifer, Scot Kellett and wife Melody, all of
Terre Haute, Danielle Kirby and husband Branden of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Robert Evola and
wife Amanda of Alton, Ill., and Aaron Evola and wife Jennifer of Edwardsville, Ill.; eight
great-grandchildren, Jensen, Jaycee and Jolee Kellett, Karlie, Kassidy and Kamden Kellett,
Audrey Evola and Wyatt Evola; two brothers, Tom Frew and wife Sandra of Carmel, and

Allen, Lois L. (Muncie)
BRAZIL — Lois L. (Muncie) Allen, 93, of Hoosier Village Health Center in Indianapolis, Ind.,
died Thursday morning, July 30, 2009. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband
James E. Allen who was a Navy veteran of World War II and had retired as an executive
from Ryder Systems, Inc. Mrs. Allen was born in Brazil, Ind. but also lived in Cincinnati,
Winter Haven, Fla. and Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her mother and father,
Clara and Roy Muncie (a prominent local artist in the Brazil/Terre Haute area) and her
brother, Harold Lee Muncie of Terre Haute. Mrs. Allen worked as a model and did
advertising work for local companies as well as modeled designer clothing for various
department stores. She is survived by, sister-in-law, Betty Muncie; nephew, David Muncie;
niece, Joan Rabbers, all of Indianapolis, and sisters-in-law, Mary Allen of Terre Haute; and
Katherine Reynolds of Kirkland, Ariz. Memorial services for Lois Allen will be at 1 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009 at the Roselawn chapel in Roselawn cemetery in Terre Haute. In
lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association.

Payton, Ernestine M.
Ernestine M. Payton, 79, of Terre Haute, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at 5:45 a.m. in Terre
Haute Regional Hospital. She was a housekeeper for Indiana State University. She was
born on Jan. 9, 1930, in Vigo County, to William Fagg and Dorothy Snyder Fagg
Church.Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Manning of Terre Haute; four sons, Robert
Lewis, Terry Lewis, Michael Lewis and Larry Edington, all of Terre Haute; 12 grandchildren;
and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Payton;
and a daughter, Connie Sue Lewis.She was a former member of Berean Baptist Church.
Committal services are today, Aug. 19, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., at Roselawn Memorial Park
Chapel of Memories with Pastor Aaron Wheaton officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn

Bohannon, Travis Andrew "Fat Boy"
Travis Andrew "Fat Boy" Bohannon, 16 months, of Terre Haute, died at 9:04 p.m. Sunday,
Aug. 16, 2009, in Greene County Hospital. He was born on April 10, 2008, in Terre Haute,
to Ronald and Jamie Bohannon. Survivors include his parents; brother, Sean Bohannon at

go once he was crawling. He loved to play outside; once the door was opened, he was
going out it as fast as his chubby little legs could carry him. He would bat those big brown
eyes, smile and laugh and take off running again. Travis loved to go bye-bye for a ride in
the car or on a bike. He loved to ride on bikes and ride on toys, play with balls and with his
dogs. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Our time with you was way too short but you
will always be in our hearts "fat boy." Now you can play and sing with the angels and play
with Grandma Sarah, Aunt Linda and Uncle Mike. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today at
Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette Ave. Revs. Karen Buchholz and Warren

Graham, Frances M.
Frances M. Graham, age 87, of Terre Haute, passed away Aug. 15, 2009 in the Meadows
Manor North Nursing Home. Born Nov. 22, 1921 in Terre Haute, she was the daughter of
Sidney LeForge and Bonnie (Brooks) LeForge. She married Wesley Graham and he
preceded her in death. Frances had worked as a Secretary/Treasurer for the Retail Clerks
Sigma Phi Sorority, Eastern Star and the Ladies Auxiliary eagles Lodge. She was a former
member of the Business and Women's Professional Club. Survivors include three cousins,
Jerry Corenflos, Ruby Hill and Carolyn Allen. She was preceded by her parents, husband
and a sister, Mildred McCrocklin. There are no services scheduled. Burial will be today at
the Roselawn Memorial Park. The Roselawn Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Hayes, Helen Marie
Helen Marie Hayes, 58, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, in her home.
She was born on Sept. 12, 1950, in Terre Haute, to Charles and Anna Josephine (Todd)
Gentry. She was a former employee of Bemis, and then went on to work as a teaching
assistant. Helen was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and
American Legion. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and also she enjoyed
antiques, gardening and scrapbooking.She is survived by her husband, Doug Hayes of
Terre Haute; children, Brian Gosnell and his companion Barbara Bendekovich of Terre
Haute, Larry Rutledge and wife Chris, Leslee Elliot and husband Hugh, and Laurie
Hammond and husband Nate, all of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Brittany Bendekovich,
Monica Adams, Carl Adams, Sarah Gosnell, Dalilah Gosnell, Nicky Gosnell, Kayla French,
Kole Rutledge, Kyle Rutledge, Austin Elliott, Leah Elliott, Kennedie Hammond and Londyn
Hammond. Also surviving are stepbrother, Don Hart and wife Sharon of Tuscola, Ill.; and

Van Hook, Norma Jean
Norma Jean Van Hook, 82, formerly of Fontanet passed away Aug. 19, 2009 at 1:20 p.m. at
Cloverleaf Health Care in Knightsville, Ind. She was born Dec. 3, 1926 to James Carl Stultz
and Beatrice Bailey in Vigo County. She is survived by a son, James C. Van Hook and wife
Lynn of Rosedale, Ind.; a daughter, Mary Wallace and husband Robert of Carbon, Ind.; two
sisters, Lucille Van Hook, and Phyllis Brown; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren,
and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her husband, James
William Van Hook and his parents, Carl and Beatrice Stultz. She was a lifetime member of
Rosedale American Legion Ladies Auxillary. Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Mattox-Wood
Funeral Home with visitation 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Internment will

Dunning, Jacqueline
Jacqueline Dunning, age 88, a lifelong resident of Terre Haute passed away early Thursday
morning, Aug. 20, 2009 in her home with her daughters by her side. She was born on Aug.
16, 1921 in Terre Haute to Clarence Totten and Ruth Agnes (Solomon) Murdock.She
graduated from Gerstmeyer High School. In earlier years she worked at Quaker Maid and
then at Columbia Records. She enjoyed doing crafts and working puzzles, she also loved to
read and spend time with her grandchildren.She is survived by her two daughters, Glenda
Presnell and husband Tom of Terre Haute, and Susan Chestnut and husband Bob of
Jasper, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and
a brother, Lydon Totten of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband, Bernard William Dunning who passed away Aug. 13, 1965; two sons, Patrick
Dunning who passed away in 1981, and Jack Dunning who passed away in 1966; three
brothers, Clyde Totten, Ernest "Boots" Totten, and Glenn Totten; one grandson, Larry
Presnell, and a sister-in-law, Nora Totten.Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today in
Thomas Funeral Home. Services are 1 p.m. today in the funeral home with Pastor Bob

Keller, Arvel L.
Arvel L. Keller, age 82, of Terre Haute, passed away Aug. 20, 2009 in his residence. Born
July 23, 1927 in Cord, Ark., he was the son of Buel Keller and Hattie (Hobbs) Keller. He
married Hettie Berry and she preceded him on June 2, 1994. Arvel had worked as a truck
driver for the Mine Weld Inc. and retired after 23 years on the job. His hobbies included
camping, feeding birds and squirrels, and going to Toss-a-Roll (Lamberts Café) in Sikeston,
Mo. Survivors include three daughters, Terri Doss and companion Jim Crowley of Terre
Haute, Vickie Oster and companion Rick Dobson of Terre Haute, and Sandra Hetterscheidt
of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie, Kelly and Floyd Mahurin, David
Keller, Penny Michaels, Lorie Nicoson, Michael and Rachael Doss and Lindsay Keller; 10
great-grandchildren, four brothers, Benjamin Keller of Farmersburg, William Keller of Texas,
Charles Keller and wife Ruby of Arkansas, and Dean Keller of Texas; a sister, Wanda Hof
and husband Jerry of Terre Haute; a special nephew, Ray Keller of Terre Haute; and
several other nieces and nephews. His parents; wife; a son, Robert Keller; daughter, Betty
Mahurin, and two sisters, Fannie Leek and Alma Keller preceded him in death. Visitation will
be 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and also 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the Roselawn Funeral Home.

Esperson, Mary Ellen
Mary Ellen Esperson, 89, of Terre Haute, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, in Meadows Manor
East. She was born on Aug. 24, 1919, in Terre Haute, to Harry All and Delilah Bennett All.
Mary Ellen was a teacher in the Vigo County School Corporation at Davis Park and Dixie
Bee Elementary Schools for 34 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene
Esperson. Survivors include her son, John Esperson and his wife Dannette of Terre Haute;
a brother, Jack All and his wife Flo of Terre Haute; five grandchildren, Amy Gibson and her
husband Chad, Carrie Smith and her husband Henry, Ryan Milburn and his wife Beth, Kurt
Milburn and his wife Jill, and Kim Pluddemann and her husband Scott; and several
great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Eugene
Esperson II; a daughter, Julienne Milburn; and a sister, June Rosebrock. Mary Ellen was a
member of First Baptist Church, Indiana State Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma,
Gamma Phi Beta, and was a past member of the Woman's Department Club.Funeral

Kimberly Kay Lovellette, 46, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, in Union

Whitford Lovellette. She had formerly worked for Great Scott, Hardees and Columbia House.

Lovellette of Terre Haute and Bryan Lovellette and his wife Connie of Clinton; one sister, Jill

Quinn Sr., Donald E.
Donald E. Quinn Sr., 85, of Terre Haute, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, in his residence.
Donald was born on Dec. 2, 1923, in Terre Haute, to Dolpha and Gladys Quinn. He married
his wife, Ileen Sanders Quinn on May 24, 1946. He served in the Unites States Navy during
World War II. Donald worked for 31 years as an operator with PSI Energy at the Wabash
River station, until his retirement in 1986. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ileen Quinn;
son, Donald E. Quinn Jr. of Fayetteville, Tenn.; daughters, Cathy Huntley of Anderson, and
Janice and husband John Robinson of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death recently
by daughter-in-law, Ruth Quinn; and son-in-law, Larry Huntley.Donald's many memberships
include V.F.W. Post 972, American Legion, Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 19, Scottish
Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine for whom he transported children to the Shriner's
Hospital, Elks Club, Order of Eastern Star of New Goshen, where he was Past Worthy
Patron, Swords of Bunker Hill, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of Emmanuel
United Methodist Church. He enjoyed dining out with friends and family, and

Stevenson, Joyce Arlene Goldner
BRAZIL — Joyce Arlene Goldner Stevenson, 72, of Brazil died Aug. 23, 2009 at St. Vincent
Clay Hospital following complications from cancer. She was born Sept. 30, 1936 in Clinton,
Ind., the daughter of John W. and Della Davis Goldner. Joyce graduated from Clinton High
School, Class of 1954. As a young girl, Joyce worked at the Aragon Pool and loved every
minute of it. After graduation she worked at the Ft. Harrison Bank in Terre Haute. She had
attended the Methodist Church as a young girl and had raised their children in the church
as well.On Sept. 1, 1957 she married the love of her life, John "Jack" Stevenson. Together
they started raising their family in Terre Haute and then in 1964 they moved to Brazil. She
and Jack had founded Brazil Heating in 1959 and she ran the office for several years. Joyce
spent many years in Girl Scouts as a leader in Brazil with many camping trips, cookouts,
parades and even lemon-aid stand fund raisers for the troops. She and Jack were very
active in the Jaycees with Clothe-a-child program at Christmas. Her memberships included
Tri Kappa and Christmas in the Park, including co-founding the 'Breakfast with Santa' event.
Joyce was an avid sports fan supporting through the years the Brazil Red Devils and
currently the Northview Knights. She truly enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids, and all
of their friends, as they played sports.She has always been in love with anything that
involves nature, with emphasis on bird watching, star gazing and gardening, too.A priority in
Joyce's life has been time spent with her high school class members. She graduated from
Clinton High School in 1954 and had just finished planning their 55th Class Reunion. Her
class has been a very close group and had spent time together every year. One thing said
many times about Joyce through the years was that she never met a stranger! She loved to
talk to everyone and learn their story of life.She was preceded in death by her parents and
her husband John "Jack" Stevenson in 1991. Survivors include her children, Jill Doll (Davey)
of New Carlisle, Ind., Janet Bettis (Scott), Rockville, and John H. Stevenson, Jr. (Sherri) of

to Frank L. Blackford Jr. and Joanne (LaFollette) Johnson.He worked for PSI as a "Yardman
C" for 29 years and was a member of IBEW 1393. He also attended South Vigo

Lee, Richard H.
Richard H. Lee, 86, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, in his residence.
He was born on Aug. 21, 1922, in Clark County, Ill., the son of George Washington Lee and
Mary (Blair) Lee. He married Harriet Washburn and she survives. He served in the U.S. Army
and also in the U.S. Navy Reserves in World War II. He was an auto and diesel mechanic,
and also a USAC auto mechanic. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 104
Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009.

Pauline E. Dreher Kelsheimer, 69, of West Terre Haute died at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25,
2009 in her residence. She was born to Charles Dreher and Muriel Dowell Dreher. She was
employed for many years as a bookkeeper for Industrial Supply. She was a former member
of St. Ann Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert
Kelsheimer; and her brother, Charles Dreher. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Orr and

Margaret Tewell Orman, 95, died at 6:25 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Westridge Health
Care in Terre Haute. She was born to Everett Rude and Ruth E Medlin, on May 3, 1914, in
Mattoon, Ill. She lived in Terre Haute for 35 years, then moved to Bowling Green for 20
years, then moved to Cooper Tower in Brazil for 10 years and her final years at Westridge
Health Care. She was retired from G.T.E.Survivors include her two sons, David Underwood
and wife Sandi of Crestview, Fla., and Enoch Tewell and wife Linda of Terre Haute; one
daughter, Molly Wheeler and husband William of Pinckneyville, Ill.; one brother, Robert Rude

a phone operator at Southwestern Bell. She was a member of the Catholic Church, and a
proud member of the Democratic Party. She was preceded in death by her parents, her
brother, Conrad Gregory and her nephew, Conrad Gregory II. She is survived by one son,
Douglas Haskell and his wife, Laura of Florida; one daughter, Melanie Brodie of Terre Haute;
three grandchildren, Amanda and Derek Davis and Craig Brodie; two great-grandchildren,
Haley and Jaden Davis, and one niece, Susan Peters. Graveside services will be conducted
at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Roselawn Memorial Park with Deacon John Bamman officiating. In
lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society. Greiner
Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
