Harris, Betty L.
Betty L. Harris, 77, of Terre Haute, went home to be with her Heavenly Father, at 12:04
a.m. Monday, March 30, 2009, at Union Hospital. She was a homemaker and beloved
mother. She was born Jan. 8, 1932, in Terre Haute, to William Schimmel and Goldie
(Middleton) Schimmel. She was preceded in death by her husband, David William
Harris.She is survived by four sons, Brent Norris of Brazil, Jack Norris of Terre Haute,
Steve Norris (Sherrie) of Pimento, and Gary Harris (Karen) of Farmersburg; four
daughters, Kathy Speers (Leonard) of Fayetteville, Penn.., Jana M'sahal of Coconut
Creek, Fla., Sherie Varin (Edwin) of Coconut Creek, and Sandra Hedden (Carl) of Brazil;
two sisters, Mary Marx and Ruth Cutliff; a sister-in-law, Rosemary Schimmel; several
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death
by an infant son, who died at birth; two brothers, Oliver Schimmel and William Schimmel;
and a sister, Mildred Bailey.She attended Terre Haute Bible Center for many years, and
will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday
at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with Pastor Jerry Nash officiating.
Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, and one hour
prior to services on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial
contributions may be made to either the American Heart Association or the Leukemia
Foundation; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Byrer, Martha "Lu"
Martha "Lu" Byrer, 71, of Terre Haute, died at 8:25 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Royal
Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 10, 1937, in St. Bernice,
to Clarence McPheeters and Elsie Shannon McPheeters. Lu retired from Columbia
Records and Chesty Foods. She is survived by one son, Mike Byrer and wife Cindy; two
daughters, Pam Townsend and husband Brett, and Debbi Seifert and husband John;
seven grandchildren, Missi Howe, Jackie Olsen, Travis Walker, Michael Byrer, Jessica
Townsend, Matthew Townsend and Haley Seifert; and five great-grandchildren. She was
an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and enjoyed yard sales, bingo and euchre. She was a very
loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and mostly enjoyed doing for others.
Lu loved sitting outside watching birds and visiting with friends. She will be tremendously
missed by everyone who knew her. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 9,
2009, at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette Ave., with the Rev. Bill Herb
officiating. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, with burial following at RoseLawn
Memorial Park. The family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the
Alzheimer's Association.

Bedford, Inez Black
Inez Black Bedford, 90, of Terre Haute died Tuesday morning, April 7, 2009, at Union
Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born March 25, 1919, in Terre Haute, to William
Black and Sarah Owens Black. Her husband, William Warren Bedford, preceded her in
death in 1984. Survivors include three daughters, Billie Jean Osborn and husband William,
Norma Black and husband Robert, and Zoe Marshall; one son, David R. Bedford and wife
Deborah; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters,
Olga Bedford and Betty Sarton; and three brothers, Ralph Black, Charley McCallister and
John McCallister.Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N.
Lafayette Ave., with the Rev. Dick Smith officiating. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Athey, James "Frank"
James "Frank" Athey, of Terre Haute, went home on Sunday, April 5, 2009. He was born
May 20, 1925, in West York, Ill., to John and Pearl Athey. He was the oldest of three
brothers, of whom Dale and John both preceded him in death. After high school, like most
young men at the time, he went to war, serving in the U.S. Navy Air Corps as a gunner.
Frank, as he was known by his friends, worked with the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local
157 from 1951 until retiring in 1988, but continued as a member for 58 years. He was a
lifetime member of American Legion Post 90 in Marshall, Ill., and also was a lifetime
member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972, in Terre Haute. He was a 62-year member
of York Lodge 313 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in West Union. He also belonged to
the Scottish Rite Sword's of Bunkerhill, and was a 34-year member of the Zorah Shrine
Temple, where after his retirement he spent countless hours working for the Shriners,
being active in public relations and transportation to help children and people in general.
He also worked as an usher at Indiana Statue University Hulman Center. Since he loved
basketball and people it was a perfect fit for him. Survivors include his wife of more than 60
years, Joyce Crothers Athey, the love of his life; two children, Tim Athey and wife Melinda
of Clinton, and Ellie Wycoff and her husband John of West Terre Haute; four
grandchildren, Jaymi (Rich) Auten Dunkin of Terre Haute, Steve (Ellen) Auten of West
Terre Haute, Matthew (Amy) Athey of Greenville, S.C., and Lori Athey of Knoxville, Tenn.;
and five great-grandchildren, Sydney Dunkin, Ashley Dunkin, Nicholas Dunkin, Addison
Auten, and Parker Auten.Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N.
Third St., in West Terre Haute, with Dr. Bob Parker and Matthew Athey officiating.
Entombment is in Roselawn Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with military honors
conducted by VFW Post 972. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a Masonic memorial at
7 p.m., by West Terre Haute Lodge 687. Pallbearers are Steve Auten, Matthew Athey,
Greg Athey, Ryan Athey, Scott Athey, and Zack Athey. Honorary pallbearers are Roger
Defries, Ivan Clark, Jr. Hayek, Paul Anderson, Henry Chinn, Victor Stievenant, Conrad
Allen, and Chad Athey. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions

Keith, James
James Keith, 84, of West Terre Haute passed away Monday, April 6, 2009, at Southwood
Health and Rehabilitation Center. He retired from Quaker Maid after 26 years of service.
He also had been employed with several companies including, Stran Steel, Hercules, and
the Vigo County Civil Defense, and had formerly managed the West Terre Haute
Laundromat. He also had been an usher for Indiana State University Hulman Center for 30
years, and was a greeter for many years with Fitzpatrick Funeral Home. He was born June
24, 1924, in Terre Haute, to Everett Earl Keith and Loretta Barnhart Keith. Survivors
include his wife of 63 years, Donna Breault Keith, whom he married Aug. 22, 1945, at
Hutchinson, Kans.; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Chuck Schlup of West Terre
Haute; a son-in-law, Bill Hansel of West Terre Haute; a sister, Louise Morgan of Cadiz, Ky.;
three grandchildren, Lori Porter and her husband Matt, Doug Hansel and his wife Kristi,
and Katy Ensminger and her husband James; four great-grandchildren, Kimberly Porter,
Amber Porter, Brianna Porter, and Ava Hansel; and many nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patricia Hansel; three brothers, Herschel,
Virgil, and Lavern Keith; and a sister, Gladola Gilbert. He was a staunch Democrat and had
been very active in politics, and was invited to the inauguration of Jimmy Carter. He served
on many boards and committees including the West Terre Haute Town Board, where he
served as president, Sugar Creek Township Advisory Board, Holding Corporation for Terre
Haute North Vigo and Terre Haute South Vigo high schools, was a charter member of the
West Terre Haute Volunteer Fire Department, and Vigo County Alcohol and Tobacco
Board. He was a member of West Terre Haute Lodge 687 Free and Accepted Masons,
Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Kerman Grotto, Fraternal Order of the Moose and
Fraternal Protective Order of the Elks, both in Terre Haute. He was a World War II veteran
of the U.S. Navy, during which time he served as the flight navigator on a PB4Y-1 plane. He
also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574, and was an avid golfer and an
avid Chicago Cubs fan.Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N.
Third St., West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Dennis Leek officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8
p.m. today, with a Masonic memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at Roselawn
Memorial Park, with graveside military rites conducted by the Vigo County Veterans

Hamilton, Raymond
Raymond Hamilton, 83, of Quincy, Ind. and formerly of Terre Haute, passed away April 6,
2009, in Methodist Hospital at Indianapolis. He was born March 8, 1926, at Terre Haute,
the son of Benjamin Hamilton and May Hamilton. He worked at Allis Chalmers in Terre
Haute and retired from JI Case, in Terre Haute after 20 years of employment. He was a
U.S. Army and Navy veteran and served in two wars, World War II, and The Korean War.
He is survived by, his former wife, Shirley Hamilton; sons, Terry Hamilton and wife Carol of
Quincy, Danny Clark and wife Missy of Indianapolis, Robert Hamilton and wife Cora,
Raymond Benjamin Hamilton, David and Larry Hamilton all of Terre Haute, and Tommy
Hamilton of Kokomo; daughters, Emma Bouser and husband Doug, Shirley Anderson and
husband Andy both of Kokomo, Linda Cox and Dorothy Hamilton both of Terre Haute and
Tammy Hamilton; nephew, Tommy Joe Young of Terre Haute; grandson, Daniel Clark of
Indianapolis; brother, Bob Axe of Prairieton and several grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.He was a member of Masonic Lodge of
573, F and AM, the American Legion of Rosedale, and the VFW of Terre Haute. He was
laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery after a private ceremony and the Rev. Dave Conders
officiated.

Fuson, David M.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — David M. Fuson, age 73, of St. Petersburg, Fla. passed away
Tuesday, March 31, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ella
(Wilson) Fuson; a sister, Beverly A. Payton; and a brother, Jerry L. Fuson.He is survived
by his loving children, daughters, Michelle L. Fuson, Melanie J. Niece, Marcia E. Fuson
and Jeryl Parra; son, Mikhaile D. Fuson; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and a
sister, Jane A. Scott and husband Larry.David graduated in 1953 from Garfield High
School. He was a United States Army veteran and was a florist for many years. He
participated in the decorations for the Rose Bowl. Cremation has been chosen. Family will
receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today at North Terre Haute Christian Church. Services will
be at 2 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Larry Scott officiating. Inurnment will be in
Roselawn Memorial Park. Flowers are accepted, or memorial contributions may be made

Mankin, Naomi J.
Naomi J. Mankin, 74, of Clinton and formerly of Terre Haute, passed away Friday, April 10,
2009, in her residence. Born Feb. 13, 1935, in Terre Haute, she was the daughter of John
Hanna and Alice Mae (Crosson) Hanna. She was a homemaker. She was a member of
Gospel Tabernacle Church in Terre Haute. Her hobbies included gardening, canning,
crocheting, jig saw puzzles, and playing piano. She was a loving wife, grandmother,
great-grandmother, and friend. She married Garry R. Mankin on Nov. 4, 1995, and he
survives. She also is survived by her children, Debra Butler and husband Wayne of Iron
City, Tenn., Tony Corey and wife Cindy of Terre Haute, Faith Holland of Arizona. and
Michael Corey and wife Kris of San Francisco; a stepdaughter, Brandy Walton of Clinton;
three stepsons, Randy Mankin of Terre Haute, Tony Mankin of Clinton, and Ron Harmon
of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Christina Marks and husband Stanley of Cloverdale, Ala.,
Jennifer Butler of Florence, Ala., Sara Myles of Indianapolis, Mistie Holland of Virginia,
Cole Holland of Indianapolis, and Violet Hanna Corey of San Francisco; a
stepgranddaughter, Kristan Carroll of Seattle; several other stepgrandchildren and
stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Wade and Ruth Carter, both of Indiana; two
brothers, John Hanna and wife Betty of Indiana, and Bill Hanna of Illinois; and several
nieces and nephews. Her parents; ex-husband, Tony Corey Sr.; husband, David Harmon;
two brothers, James and Tom Hanna; and a sister Rosalie Hanna, all preceded her in

Strominski, Lorene
BLANFORD — Lorene Strominski, 83, of Savannah, Ga., formerly of Blanford, died
Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at her home in Savannah. She was born Sept. 20, 1925, in
Blanford, to Cecil Straughn and Helen Barnaby Straughn. Her husband, Casimir Joseph
"Kay" Strominski, preceded her in death. She was a 1943 graduate of Clinton High School.
Survivors include one brother, Derral Straughn; and four nieces.Burial is today at
Roselawn Memorial Park, in Terre Haute. Gamble Funeral Service, in Savannah, assisted
with arrangements.

Ramey, Rosetta G.
Rosetta G. Ramey, 71, of Terre Haute died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Union
Hospital. She was born Jan. 30, 1938, in Terre Haute, to Harvey and Ruth Bryant. She was
employed at Meis, and was owner and operator or Rose's Tan Fastic's. She is survived by
her husband of 38 years, Jack Ramey; four sons, Kenneth L. Bennett Jr., Bradley R.
Bennett, Brian J. Bennett, and Scott Ramey; seven grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents.She was a graduate of Otter
Creek High School, and was a majorette while attending there. She loved to travel and go
to the casinos. She liked to fish, enjoyed being with her grandkids, and was an avid
bowler.Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette

Curley Sr., Gerald L. "Jerry"
Gerald "Jerry" L. Curley Sr., 73, of Terre Haute, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31,
2009, in his residence. He was born Feb. 18, 1936, in Terre Haute the son of Joseph
Arthur Curley and Florence Winiford Farley Curley. He was retired from GTE and Verizon
after 371/2 years. He was an Army veteran.He is survived by his wife, Leora Keller Curley;
one daughter, Sherri Curley; three sons, Gerald Curley Jr., Robert Curley and wife Julie,
Kenneth Curley and wife Beverly; two brothers, Kenneth Curley and wife Helen and Ed
Curley and wife Donna; four sisters, Barbara Pfeiffer, Alice Heubel and husband George,
Shirley Mimms and husband Wesley, Mary McCracken and husband Larry; one
sister-in-law, Beverly Curley; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lawrence and Joseph.Services

McClain, Alan Ray
Alan Ray McClain, 62, of Terre Haute, died at 5:26 p.m. Tuesday April 14, 2009, in Union
Hospital. He was an employee at AET for 33 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Guard.
He was born April 6, 1947, in Fontanet to William Alan McClain and Vivian Marie Marquis
McClain.He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jones McClain; three sons, Tony McClain and
wife Kathy of Clinton, Mark Alan McClain of Rosedale and Sean McClain of Rosedale; two
stepdaughters, Rhonda Shellhammer and husband Max of Clay City, Shawn Havens and
husband Aaron of Terre Haute; one stepson, Martin Robbins and wife Brenda of
Rosedale; two brothers, Bill McClain and wife Ester of Fontanet, Gary McClain and wife
Sharon of Dayton Ohio; one brother-in-law, Allen Newman and wife Mary Lou; one

Allen, Eula Gwendolyn
CLINTON — Eula Gwendolyn Allen, 91, of Clinton passed away on Tuesday, April 14,
2009, at 4:40 p.m. in the Vermillion County Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center
following a stroke. She was born on March 30, 1918, to James W. Rich and Nellie
Catherine Hicks Rich in Yeddo, Ind. Her parents, four brothers and a sister preceded her
in death. She married Richard Allen on Nov. 8, 1947, and he preceded her in death on
April 18, 1996.Survivors include her daughter, Bonita L. Jones of St. Bernice,Ind.; son,
Ared W. Allen (Linda) of Robinson, Ill., granddaughter, Tracey L. Blue (Doug) of St.
Bernice; grandsons, Richard and Jim Jones of St. Bernice, Shaun Allen (Allura) of Talking
Rock, Ga., and Vincent Allen (Kylie) of New Orleans, La.; great-granddaughters, Ashlee
Capps of Fontana, Calif., Addison Jones of Shelburn, Heather Coonce (Larry) of Clinton,
Parker Allen and Taylor Lewis, both of Talking Rock; great-grandsons, Preston Jones of
Shelburn and Micheal Blue of St. Bernice; great-great-granddaughters, Melanie and
Madison Coonce of Clinton; two nieces and two nephews; and several great-nieces and
nephews.She was a homemaker, helped operate St. Bernice Hardware, worked in the Helt
Township Trustee's office and the ODC office for Community Action in Clinton before
retiring. She was a 73-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and currently a member
of OES Jerusalem Chapter 254 in Clinton.Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Frist Funeral
Home in Clinton with the Rev. Bill Emberton officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday
at the funeral home, with Eastern Star memorial service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Roselawn
Memorial Park.

Baker, Joseph "Joe"
Joseph "Joe" Baker, 80, of Terre Haute, passed away at 4:53 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14,
2009, in Union Hospital. He was born in Vigo County on April 18, 1928, to Raymond Allen
Baker and Minnie Blanche Newman Baker. He retired in 1985 as district superintendent for
Public Service Indiana after 37 years of service. Mr. Baker graduated from Glenn High
School in 1946, and after graduation enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he
served as a fireman on the Douglas H. Fox destroyer. He was also a member of the
American Legion and the Clinton Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife
Annabelle "Annie" Sagraves Baker on Aug. 15, 1989. He was also preceded in death by
both parents; and six sisters, Mary Green, Virginia Bridgewater, Muriel Craig, Lucille
Quilliam, Lillian Meneely and Alice Miller. Survivors include one son, Douglas Baker and
wife JoAnn of Terre Haute; one daughter; Sandra Kaye Carmony and husband Ron of
Crawfordsville. Four grandchildren survive, Amy Thomas, Heather Baker, Chad Alan Van
Lannen, and Trent Daniel Van Lannen. Five great-grandchildren also survive; Kaylee and
Ethan Van Lannen, Sara and Abram Joseph Van Lannen, and Alexandra Thomas; as well
as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Callahan-DeBaun
Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., with the Rev. Mark Grayless officiating. Visitation will
be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and again from 10 a.m. till services Saturday in the funeral
home. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with military graveside rites by Wayne

Bopp, Helen Marguerite Hope
Helen Marguerite Hope Bopp, 85, of Terre Haute died of natural causes Tuesday evening,
April 14, 2009 in her daughter's home. She was born March 7, 1924 in Terre Haute to Paul
Robert Hope and Marguerite Denning Hope. Her husband, Dr. James Bopp, preceded her
in death in 2003.Survivors include her son, James Bopp, Jr. and his wife, Christine of
Terre Haute; three daughters, Debra Bopp Barnes and her husband, Steve of Lebanon,
Ind., Karen Elizabeth Bopp Ennis and her husband Chuck of West Terre Haute and
Teresa Ann Bopp Corenflos and her husband A. Victor Corenflos III of West Terre Haute;
two sisters, Larrie Parks and her husband William of California and Elaine Gietzen and her
husband Albert of California; a brother-in-law, Dr. Henry W. Bopp, Jr. of Terre Haute; two

sister, Mary Eileen Baxter.Margie was a graduate of Wiley High School and had attended
Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis. She was a longtime member of
Centenary United Methodist Church, Service League of Union Hospital, Tri Kappa, Vigo
County Medical Alliance, Swope Art Museum and Country Club of Terre Haute. In 1998,
Margie was honored as the recipient of the Union Hospital Foundation Baur Award.Funeral
services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009 in Kingshighway Family
Worship Center, 2901 South Seventh St., with Pastor Simeon Young Jr. officiating. Burial
will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in

Johnson, Norman L.
Norman L. Johnson, 69, of Terre Haute died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 7:58 p.m. in
Union Hospital. He was born Dec. 24, 1939, in Sanford, Ind. to Raymond Johnson and
Thelma (Sweet) Johnson. He is survived by his wife: Sharon (Haper) Johnson; three
daughters: Tina Blake (David) of Roachdale, Ind., Lisa Sloniker (Randy) of Terre Haute,
and Teresa McVey (Bill) of Terre Haute; a stepson: Jerry Reedy of Terre Haute; three

sister-in-law: Beth Johnson of Terre Haute and several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his first wife: Carolyn Sue Johnson who died Feb. 29, 1996; his
parents; a brother: Leroy Johnson, and a sister: Betty Lou Harris. Norman was a very
loving husband, father, grandpa and brother who had strong family values. He enjoyed
bowling, mushroom hunting and fishing.God saw he was getting tired, and a cure was not

Walker, Benjamin F.
Dr. Benjamin F. Walker, 89, of Terre Haute died Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in Davis Gardens
Health Center. He was born May 31, 1919 in Columbus, Ind. to Daniel E. Walker and Sarah
Elizabeth Rambo Walker. Dr. Walker had spent his lifetime in teaching and school
administration from elementary through university levels. He also served in the military in
training and administration as well as serving his church in teaching, until recent years
when health problems prevented it. Survivors include his wife, Letta Marie Huffman Walker
whom he married Dec. 23, 1939; one daughter, Anita Marie Livingston and her husband
Stephen of Odem, Texas; one son, Kenneth R. Walker and his wife Kristianna of Lewis;
one sister, Mary E. Trussell and her husband Leland of El Dorado Springs, Mo.; one
sister-in-law, Charlotte Suddeth of Columbus; five grandchildren, Alan Livingston and his
wife Lucia, Clint Livingston, Megan Moore and her husband Bradley, Brian Walker and his
wife Rebecca, and Cole Walker; five great-grandchildren; and 25 nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, Robert, Homer, Jesse, Woodrow
and Verne. His life work was teaching that spanned 47 years. He was a two-year graduate
of Indiana State Teachers College, B.S. and M.S. degrees from Butler University, and
Ed.D. from Indiana University. He was a teacher and principal in Bartholomew County,
Columbus, Ind. for 29 years and a professor at Indiana State University for 19 years. He
was particularly interested in old school books and served several years as library
representative for the School of Education, ordering all educational materials for the entire
school. Having been a practicing school administrator, he was called upon frequently to
chair committees to survey, or evaluate secondary schools throughout the state of Indiana.
During World War II, he served as an aerial navigator in the Jungle Skippers of the Army
Air Corps from 1943-46, in the Southwest Pacific Theatre, receiving five battle stars. At the
conclusion of World War II he was one of the special crew members selected to go into
Japan on Aug. 28, 1945, to set up arrangements for General McArthur to accept the
official surrender on Sept. 2. After serving a total of 21 years active and reserve time, he
retired from the U.S. Air Force at the rank of lieutenant colonel. Dr. Walker was an active
member of First Baptist Church of Terre Haute, serving as a deacon, chairman of a
building committee and a Sunday School teacher. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m.
Saturday, April 25, 2009 in First Baptist Church of Terre Haute, 4701 Poplar, with the Rev.
Bernie Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5
to 8 p.m. today, in Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street. Memorial

Miller, Mary Lucille Streacker
Mary Lucille Streacker Miller, 99, died April 22, 2009, in Southwood Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center. She was born to Allen Jones and Viola Warren Jones on Jan. 29,
1910, in Terre Haute. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph B.
Streacker, who died Jan. 16, 1986, and her second husband, Leon Miller, who died Sept.
25, 2001. She was a homemaker, teacher and writer. She was a graduate of Garfield High
School, class of 1927 and received her certificate of teaching from Indiana State Normal,
now Indiana State University, returning in 1961 to get her bachelor's degree in elementary
education. She taught in Vigo, Parke, and Greene Counties. She was a chapter member of
the Terre Haute Writers Club and the Poets Study Club which were active in the 1940's.
Her hobby was writing. Her poetry, stories and children's plays often appeared in children's
magazines in her working years. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Meneely and
husband Don; a son, R. Noel Streacker and wife Nancy of Terre Haute; also three sisters,
Ruth Taft and Sonia Cunningham of Terre Haute and Maxine Commons of Indianapolis;
eight grandchildren, Don Meneely and wife Machel of Florida, Patrick Meneely and wife
Cindy of Terre Haute, and Susan Tewell and husband Ed of Martinsville, Ind., Henry
Streacker of Dana, Joe Streacker and wife Denise of Terre Haute, Sara Ruffner of
California, Robert Streacker and wife Estela of Chicago, Richard Streacker of Bloomington,
Ill.; also 26 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren and many cousins,
nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Marie Weddle and Sharon Jones of Terre Haute.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Alfred, Coyt, Robert and Delmar
Jones; also three sisters, Ernestine Jones, Marie Hall and Vera Stephens.She was a
member of the Maple Avenue United Methodist Church.Services are 11 a.m. Monday at
Mattox-Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Monte Barker officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8

Hutchinson, Shirley
Shirley Hutchinson, 70, of Terre Haute, passed away late Saturday night, April 25, 2009.
She was born Sept. 9, 1938, in Sacramento, Calif., to Harry and Alta (Smith) Powell. She
was a homemaker.Shirley is survived by her children, Tina Carlyle, Dovie Stanton,
LaDonna Stanton, Frankie Stanton, and Ronnie Stanton, all of Terre Haute, and Jennie
Merch and her husband Shonyi of Dayton, Ohio; siblings, Robert Lee Powell and wife
Karen of Terre Haute, Jonny Stewart and Harriett Bennett, both of West Terre Haute, and
Barbara Powell of California; very close and special friends, Georgia Childress and Pat
White; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She
was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alta Barber; a grandson, Mitchel Lawson;
and two brothers-in-law, Jim Stewart and Floyd Bennett.Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at

Eslinger, Pearl M.
Pearl M. Eslinger, 88, of Terre Haute died at 7:45 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2009. She was
born in Montgomery County, Ill., on May 16, 1920, to Henry and Lydia (Oltmanns) Bolte.
She was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her husband, Kenneth
N. Eslinger Sr., whom she married in Bloomington, Ind., on June 15, 1938, preceded her in
death on July 24, 2000. She was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church,
member and past-president of Wabash Valley Audubon Society, member of Maryland Home
Extension Club, and AARP. She was an avid and accomplished photographer, having had
photos published in several national periodicals and textbooks. Her survivors include two
sons, James A. Eslinger and his wife Carol, and Kenneth N. Eslinger Jr. and his wife Denise;
her grandsons, James D. Eslinger and Eric K. Eslinger; one great-grandson, Cameron
James Eslinger; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by
one sister and three brothers. Funeral arrangements are 2 p.m. Thursday at DeBaun
Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with the Rev. Philip Meyer officiating. Visitation is 4

Rogers, Robin
Robin Rogers, 59, of Terre Haute and Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2009, at
Royal Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 21, 1949, in Terre
Haute, to Gene D. Rogers and Marjorie Ruth (Sherwood) Rogers. Rob was a U.S. Army
veteran who served during Vietnam. He worked as a carpenter, but also was a musician
who played the guitar. Rob loved his music. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife,
Debby Rogers of Indianapolis, whom he married Sept. 2, 1989; children, Tracey Barrett and
husband Chris of Terre Haute, Susan Roshel and husband Jim of St. Louis, Kristin Rogers
of Terre Haute, Amie Bosslick and husband John of Fishers, Beth Ennen and husband
Brent of Avon, and Scott Hamilton and wife Amanda of Noblesville; 13 grandchildren; a
sister, Vicki Certain of Terre Haute; sisters-in-law, Kathy Rickard of Terre Haute, Mary
Hamilton of West Terre Haute, Peggy Grimes and husband Rodney of DeBary, Fla.; a
brother-in-law, John Holmes and wife Lisa of DeBary; mother-in-law, Anna Holmes of Terre
Haute; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Flack, David Seibert
David Seibert Flack, 65, of Terre Haute, passed away Monday, April 27, 2009, at Rockville
Nursing Home in Rockville. He was born June 6, 1943, in Terre Haute, to Seibert Flack and
Nina (Clark) Flack. He had been a barber in Terre Haute for many years. Survivors include
a daughter, Tonya Flack Cooper; two brothers, Jerry Flack and James Flack; caregiver and
niece, Kathy Pine; and several other nieces and nephews, and faithful companion dog
Scotty. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary Phillips. Graveside
services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Roselawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. Al Riggle officiating.

Streeter, Mildred A.
Mildred A. Streeter, 87, of Terre Haute, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2009. She was
born May 12, 1921, in Terre Haute, to Homer and Eva (Reagin) Knopp. She was a retired
beautician. Before moving into Southwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, she had
faithfully attended Riley United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Gary
Streeter and his wife Joan of Florida; and Karen and Jerry Seeling of Riley; two sisters,
Patty Creasey and Bettie Keyes; seven grandchildren, Scott Streeter, Kim Wampler, Derek
Streeter, Krista Knowles, Jeff Sreeter, Lea Sargent, and Lance Seeling; 11
great-grandchildren, Amber, Tyler, Kinzie, Parker, Taylor, Sophia, Drew, Wyatt, Lane,
Kelsey, and Simon. She was preceded in death by her brother, Homer Knopp. Funeral
