Tryon, Louise Marie Brown   

Louise Marie (Brown) Tryon, 90, of Terre Haute, died at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 29,
2008, in Cobblestone Health Campus. She was born in Clinton, on May 6, 1918, the
daughter of William F. and Lena (Rodgers) Brown. On July 24, 1933, she married
Robert G. Tryon, and he preceded her in death. Louise or Aunt Zezo, as she was
known to many, and Robert had one son, Robert ‘Bob’ Tryon Jr., and his wife Pat who
survives her; two grandsons, James Tryon and Dr. Bob Tryon III. She is also survived by
her brother, Robert K. Brown and wife Bernice; sisters, Wilma Jean Brown Tennis and
husband Jerome and Joan Ruth Brown McDowell; a sister-in-law, Inez ‘Judy’ Brown; and
a special family friend, Animesh Dey from India.She was preceded in death by her
husband; a foster son, Emil Nolte; a granddaughter, Gigi Tryon; and her parents. She
was also preceded by brothers, William F. Brown and Thomas B. Brown; and sisters-in-
law, Elsie Brown and Jane Brown; and a brother-in-law, Robert McDowell.Funeral
services are 11 a.m. Saturday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with
Pastor Aaron Wheaton officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Calling hours 9:

Catte, Edith Irene   

Edith Irene Catte, 89, of Terre Haute, died at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, in Royal
Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on July 30, 1919, in Marshall,
Ill., to John Frederick Letterman and Phebe Carpenter Letterman. She was employed by
Meis, downtown corporate office, and Elder Beerman’s office.Survivors include her
daughters, Geraldine Irene Sparipaglione and Robert Martin of Manchester, Tenn.,
Sandra J. Stadler and Timothy C. Stadler and Debra C. Deckard and Oral, all of Terre
Haute; sister, Mildred Heleine of Marshall, Ill.; grandchildren, Carla Wehrmeyer and Mark
of Terre Haute, John Lawson and Kim of Manchester, James Stadler and Trudy of Terre
Haute and Nancy Deckard of Terre Haute; great-grandchildren, Zachary Wehrmeyer,
Ryan Wehrmeyer, Austin Stadler, and Leon Lawson; and several nieces and nephews She
was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Richard Catte, in January 1971; her
parents; and sisters, Freida Marie Shelling and Florence CopperShe attended Maryland
Community Church and RebekaH’s Lodge. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3,
2008, in DeBaun Funeral Home, Springhill Chapel, 85 East Springhill Drive with Pastor

Dennis, Pauline May    

Pauline May Dennis, 92, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, in Royal
Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation. She was born on March 13, 1916, in Terre Haute, to
Walter J. Dennis and Lela May Shepherd Dennis. She graduated from Garfield High
School in 1933. She worked for Temple Laundry for 14 years and then Felix Laundry for
48 years.She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Donald L.
Wilson.Survivors include two brothers, David A. Dennis of Indianapolis and Jack Dennis of
Brazil; and one sister, Dorothy Cook of Union City, Calif.; six nieces and four nephews; and
numerous great-nieces and nephews.Services are 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, in
Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., in Terre Haute, with the Rev. David
Deal officiating. Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. Monday. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park.  
Cooprider, Julie Sue Stevenson    

BRAZIL — Julie Sue (Stevenson) Cooprider, 34, of Zanesville, Ohio, and formerly of Brazil,
went home to be with the Lord early Friday morning, Oct. 31, 2008, in her parent’s home
in Brazil, surrounded by her family. She had fought a courageous four-year battle with
cancer. Julie was born on Jan. 20, 1974, in Brazil, the firstborn child of Chester and Sue
(Sampson) Stevenson. She was a loving, talented person who devoted her life to God,
family, friends and teaching. She belonged to North Terrace Church of Christ in
Zanesville. On Dec. 18, 2004, Julie married Kevin B. Cooprider, originally of Terre Haute,
and he survives.Survivors include her husband; her beloved dog, Jakey; her parents; two
sisters, Laurie Pleake and husband Jimmy and Kara James and husband Jason, all of
Brazil; one brother, David Stevenson and wife Jeny of Terry Haute; niece and nephews,
Kambree James, Eli and Noah Stevenson, and Michael and Jadyn Pleake; grandmother,
Thelma Stevenson of Center Point; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.Julie was
preceded in death by her grandparents, John Henry and Kathryan Sampson and Harold
C. Stevenson.Julie graduated with honors from Northview High School in 1992, St. Mary-of-
the-Woods in 1996, and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill., in 1998. She taught
at St. Mary-of-the-Woods and from 1999 to the present at Zane State College in Ohio.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Moore Funeral Home, 142 N. Washington St.,
in Brazil with Pastors Steve Ford, Doug Parkey and Richard Piatt officiating. Burial will
follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Terre Haute. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one
hour prior funeral services Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may

Bratt, Alyce J.    

Alyce J. Bratt, 61, of Terre Haute passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at Pine Haven
Health and Rehabilitation. She was born Feb. 9, 1947, in Terre Haute.Alyce attended
Maple Avenue Methodist Church in Terre Haute. She had worked at Katherine Hamilton
Mental Health Center for 26 years.Alyce was preceded in death by her parents, Walter
and Emma Jean Bratt.She is survived by her brother, James E. Bratt and wife, Donna of
Evansville; niece, Kelly Server and husband, Christian of Evansville; and great-nephew,
Korbin Server.There will be no local visitation. Visitation will be 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov.
1, 2008, with a memorial service at 3 p.m., at Maple Avenue United Methodist Church in
Terre Haute. Burial will be at a later date in Roselawn Cemetery in Terre Haute.Memorial

Ferrari, Esther "Lena"    

UNIVERSAL — Esther “Lena” Ferrari, 89, of Universal, died at 1:56 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3,
2008, at The Waters of Clinton. She was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Easytown, to Pete
Brazzale and Elizabeth Sombiego. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Everett Ferrari, on Sept. 2, 1992; and one brother, Joseph Brazzale.
Survivors include sons, Bob Ferrari and wife Anga of Clinton, and Jerry Ferrari and wife
Darlene of Benton Harbor, Mich.; six grandchildren, Rick, Doug, Stan, Kent, Brittany, and
Chris Ferrari; two sisters, Virginia Dagley of Clinton, and Mary Bianchetti of Universal; one
brother, Marco Brazzale of Milwaukee; and several nieces and nephews.She was a
member of St. Joseph Church in Universal, and St. Joseph Altar Society.Mass of Christian
burial is 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Villa officiating. Burial is in
Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Friday.

King, Audra F.    

Audra F. King, 78, of Terre Haute died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008 in Southwood Health and
Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 28, 1930 in Martin County, Ind. to Manford
Wininger and Samantha Qualkinbush Wininger.She is survived by her husband of 58
years, Paul L. King; two sons, Ralph King and Russell King both of Terre Haute; one
daughter, Donna Turner and her husband David of Harmony, Ind.; and one grandson,
Gavin Turner of Harmony. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
Audra was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women,
and the Church Women United. Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday in Memorial United
Methodist Church, 2701 Poplar, with the Rev. Scott Johnson officiating. Visitation will be
from 4 to 8 p.m. today, in Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St. and one
hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. In

Decker, Jeanette M.    

Jeanette M. Decker, 80, of West Terre Haute passed away at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday Nov.
5, 2008 in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born Nov. 18, 1927 in West Terre
Haute to Ernest Rader and Edna Pierson Rader. Survivors include: Her husband of 61
years, Ron E. Decker whom she married Dec. 24, 1946 at Terre Haute; a son, Stephen E.
Decker Sr. and his wife, Pam of West Terre Haute; a daughter, Cheryl Stark and her
husband, Eddie of West Terre Haute; a grandson, Stephen Decker Jr. and his wife, Lynita
of Marshall, Ill.; two granddaughters, Tami Fields and her husband, Mike of West Terre
Haute, and Jennifer Stark and her companion, Rick Vaughn of Indianapolis; one
great-granddaughter, Sara Decker; two great-grandsons, Travis and Tyler Fields.She was
preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Norman Rader. She worshipped and
loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family. She
attended Valley High School in West Terre Haute. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday in
Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with the Rev. David Deal officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn
Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services
Saturday. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be
made to Vista Care Hospice with envelopes available in the funeral home.  
House, Marie Randolph    

Marie Randolph House, was born in Howard County, Ind. on Jan. 15, 1913, to McClellan
Randolph and Myrtle Riley Randolph. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and
a volunteer at Meadows Nursing Home. She also was a member of the Art Guild in
Sanford, Fla., and a member of Sycamore Country Club. Marie is survived by her
daughter, Donna Rae (Robert) Wyatt of Englewood, Fla.; three grandsons, Daniel (Mary)
Wyatt of Englewood, Don (Michele) Wyatt of Austin, Texas and Rick (Grace) Wyatt of
Tampa, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Christine (Matt) Perkins and Kelly Wyatt, both of
Reno, Nev., Megan Wyatt of Tampa, Fla., Dominique Wyatt and Robert Wyatt, both of
Austin, Sarah (Timmy) Martin of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and one great-great-granddaughter,
Jaydin Martin of St. Petersburg; two sisters, Violet Barnes and June (Jack) Sitarski, both of
Englewood. She also is survived by one stepson, Don (June) House of Kingwood, Texas;
and four stepgrandchildren; and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.She is preceded in death by
her parents; her husband, Donald R. House, vice-president of Eastern Express, Inc., in
1983.Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday in Roselawn Memorial Park, Chapel of Memories
with Rev. Dana Newhouse officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park, Terre Haute.  
Baker–Black, Mary Ellen    

Mary Ellen Baker–Black, 90, of Port Orange, Fla., and formerly of Terre Haute, passed
away peacefully at her home Friday, Nov. 7, 2008. Born April 22, 1918, she was one of
eight children of Clyde and Edna Carty of Terre Haute.Survivors include her husband,
Perry O. Black; sons, Kenneth Baker and wife Mary of Tallahassee, Fla., and Harold
Baker and wife Cindy of Winter Haven, Fla.; daughter Susan Baker; grandchildren,
Brandon, Christian, Marissa Baker, and Duncan Smith; and sister, Velma Chapman. In
addition to her family, her passions in life were her continuous service to her churches,
the Boy Scouts of America, and her mission work in Haiti. A beautician by trade, some of
her defining moments were her involvement and ministry as a youth and adult Sunday
School teacher, and youth leader for First Baptist Church of Monon. She was a founding
member of Monon Community Church, and was a member of First Baptist Church of South
Daytona. A lifetime of involvement in scouting included state vice president for the God
and Country Award for the Indiana Association of Baptists for Scouting, scout master of
Handicapped Troop 148, board member for the National Board of Baptists for Scouting,
and initiated the God and Country Award process in Central Florida Council Association of
Baptists for Scouting in 1995. In 1978, she was the founder of the mission organization
“Friends for Haiti”. This organization built a church and school on Jolie Mountain, Haiti.
The organization continues to maintain the facilities and ongoing operations for the
ministry and teachers. She touched the lives of many and will always be remembered by
thousands of friends and family for her involvement, compassion and faith. The family will
receive friends from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday Nov. 15, 2008, at Roselawn Funeral

Higgins, Billy D.    

Billy D. Higgins, 66, of Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, in Union
Hospital. He was born on April 26, 1942, in West Terre Haute, the son of James Arthur
Higgins and Opal (Misner) Higgins. He married Anna Goodrich on Nov. 20, 1982, and she
survives. He was a loving and giving person always willing to help others. Billy had worked
at Chesty’s Foods factory for 24 years and then went to work at Indiana State University
as a custodian for 13 years. His hobbies included gardening, deer hunting and hunting for
mushrooms. He also was a mall walker at Honey Creek Square.Survivors include his wife;
three sisters, Sue Foster of Terre Haute, Hilda Martin of Tulsa, Okla., and Vera McGrew
and husband Leroy of Gresham, Ore.; a brother, Lester Higgins and wife Pauline of Terre
Haute; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents;
brother, James Higgins; and sister, Marcia Bland. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in Thomas
Funeral Home, 2200 N. 13th Street, with Pastor Richard Piatt officiating. Burial will follow in
Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.  
Youmans, Marie Sobonya    

Marie Sobonya Youmans of Monroe, La., died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008. She was born
in Blanford, Ind., on Aug. 9, 1918, to Millard E. and Bessie Straughn Briggs. She and her
late husband, Steve Sobonya Jr. owned Midwest Radio and TV in Twelve Points and
during the 60s she operated a record shop in that store.Survivors include her husband,
Max L. Youmans, of Monroe, La.; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan Sobonya Everett and
Ed Everett of Monroe; a stepdaughter, Karen Youmans; a stepson, Steve and Kathy
Youmans and their daughter, Megan Rose; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Jean Sobonya; and an infant son.
Services will be held in Monroe, with interment in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.  
Belcher, Doris J.    

TOBINSPORT — Doris J. Belcher, 82, of Tobinsport, passed away Tuesday, Nov.11,
2008, in the home of her son, Melville Davis. Doris was born on March 5, 1926, daughter
of the late David and Belle (Williamson) Gideon in Clinton. Also preceding her in death
was her first husband Melville Davis Sr.; and sisters, Imogene Collier and Elsie
Stephanie. Doris worked at the Indianapolis Community Hospital East for 20 years,
retiring in 1984. After her retirement, she lived in Florida and French Lick, Ind., with her
second husband, Everett Belcher Sr., whom she was later divorced. Doris was an animal
lover and supporter of People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (P.E.T.A.).Survivors
include her son, Melville Davis Jr., Tobinsport; two daughters, Leslie Connett of
Indianapolis and Mary Jo Moss of Corydon; a sister, Alene Baum of Terre Haute; two
grandchildren, Natalie Fulk and Darcy Hollingsworth; and four great-grandchildren.There
will be no services. Inurnment will take place in Roselawn Cemetery in Terre Haute.

Baer, Peter G.    

Colonel Peter G. Baer, 47, of Terre Haute, died Friday evening, Nov. 14, 2008. He was
commander of the 181st Operations Support Squadron of the Indiana Air National Guard.
He was born March 3, 1961, in Terre Haute, to Robert Baer and Rose Marie McDonald
Baer. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Kimberly Kerns Baer; three sons, Kurt Baer,
Scott Baer and Michael Baer, all of Terre Haute; his parents, Robert and Rose Marie
Baer of Terre Haute; a sister, Cathy Newport of Muncie; six brothers, Robert Baer of
Terre Haute, Bill Baer of Littleton, Colo., Charles Baer, Tom Baer and John Baer, all of
Terre Haute, and Chris Baer of Chicago; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his twin brother, Andrew Baer. Pete was the heart of his large
extended family and everyone who knew him cherished his generous, fun-loving and
open-hearted personality.Pete was a graduate of Terre Haute North Vigo High School,
and received his bachelors degree from Indiana State University. He was a member of
Leadership Wabash Valley and TREES, Inc.In his military career, Colonel Baer had 27
years of meritorious service in the Indiana Air National Guard. He enlisted at the 181st
Fighter Wing in 1981, and shortly thereafter received his commission as a second
lieutenant at the Academy of Military Science. He earned his navigator wings after
receiving flight training at Mather AFB, Calif. He completed F-4 Weapons System Officer
Training and F-4 Weapons and Tactics Instructor School at McConnell AFB, Kans.
Colonel Baer traveled around the globe flying the F-4 with the 113th Fighter Squadron,
making stops in Norway and Italy, just to name a few. At the end of his glorious flying
career he had accumulated well over 1500 flight hours. He also completed Squadron
Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, and Air War College. He served in a
variety of command positions to include Chief of Intelligence at the 181st Operations
Support Flight, and a short period at Grissom AFB. He was commander of the 181st
Logistics Readiness Squadron, 181st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, and 181st
Maintenance Group. He spearheaded the 181st Fighter Wing's conversion to an
Intelligence Wing, and was currently the commander of the 181st Operations Support
Squadron. Regardless of the enormity of the task, Col. Pete Baer always displayed
tremendous dedication and tenacity and, in true "Racer" tradition, he served his
community, state and country with honor. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at First Baptist Church of North Terre Haute, 2944 E. Hall
Ave., with Pastor Mark Tobey officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be in
Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for today, Nov. 18, 2008, from 4 to 8
p.m., in the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan and Hughes

Rhoden, Rosemary Gibbs Montgomery    

Rosemary Rhoden, 83, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Sandford went home to be with
her Lord on Monday, Nov. 17, 2008. She was born to Samuel W. Gibbs Sr. and Nancy E.
Jackson on Nov. 14, 1925.Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Sharon
and Jim Horton of Cape Coral and Dianna and David Wilson of West Terre Haute; five
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.She was
preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, Bill Thomas, Max Montgomery and
Raymond Rhoden; and two sisters, Alice Prohaska and Helen Bradshaw.She was a
member of Trinity Church, Sandford Fire Auxiliary and the former New Goshen Order of
Eastern Star.Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N.
Clinton Street. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. There are no visitation times.
 
Reynolds, Claude Pete    

CLINTON — Claude Pete Reynolds, 87, of Clinton, died at 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18,
2008, in Vermillion Convalescent Center. He was born on Aug. 9, 1921, in Fairview, to
Alec Reynolds and Blanche Hall Reynolds. He was a retired pipefitter. He was a member

Rose, Michelle Renee    

Michelle Renee Rose, 39, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008. She
was born on Dec. 16, 1968, in Terre Haute, the daughter of Daniel W. Rose and Marcia
(Stephens) Rose and they survive. Michelle was a graduate of Terre Haute North High
School with honors. She graduated from Ivy Tech Community College and received a
bachelor’s from Indiana State University in social work and also a bachelor’s degree in
biological sciences. She worked assessing babies for the community and bartender for
the Marine Corps League. Her hobbies included arts and crafts, cooking and organizing
parties. She also loved water sports. Survivors include three children, Renee Nicole
Chaney, Michael Duby and Chris Taylor, all of Terre Haute; a grandchild, Kaden Harris
Bennett of Terre Haute; two brothers, Jeff Rose and Daniel S. Rose, both of Terre
Haute; one grandmother, Alberta “Pat” Stephens of Terre Haute; a nephew, Brady
Foster of Terre Haute; three uncles, Robert G. Stephens of Arkansas, Richard E.
Stephens and James E. Stephens, both of Terre Haute; aunt, Patricia S. Hughes of
Terre Haute; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfather,
Robert E. Stephens; an uncle, Daryl Hughes; and a cousin, Ricky Stephens.Funeral

Thomas, Dale    

Dale Thomas, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday afternoon, Nov. 21, 2008, in
Royal Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on June 15, 1926, in
Rockville, to Joe and Roxie (Kirkham) Thomas. He was a U.S. Army World War II
veteran. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 and American
Legion Post 104. Dale worked in earlier years as a salesman for Planter’s Peanuts and
he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include four children, Monte
and wife Jan of Illinois, Mila of Rockville, Sue and husband Darrell of Mooresville and
Diane of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Candy and husband David of Terre Haute, Kip of
Rosedale, Brad and wife Teresa of Rosedale, Kelly and husband JD of Princeton, Scott
of Rockville, Tracy and husband, and Michelle and her husband, all of Illinois, Kim and
her husband of Princeton, and Kristy and her husband of Indianapolis; great-
grandchildren, Sean and wife Mindy, Megan and husband Zach, all of Terre Haute,
Brianna, Quinten, Cole, Haley, all of Rosedale, Michael and Taylor of Princeton, Alex
and Austin of Rosedale; and several others. Also surviving are two great-great-
grandchildren, Brayden and Cheyanne.Dale was preceded in death by his parents; his
wife, Eloise, who passed away on Feb. 16, 2004; and several brothers and sisters.

Nancy “Trimble” Hampton, 84, of Terre Haute, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at 8:45 p.m.
in Royal Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was a homemaker. She was
born on May 18, 1924, in Lanenue, Ky., to Henry Hibbard and Janie (Ivy) Hibbard.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; great-
great-nieces and great-great-nephews; great-great-great nieces and great-great-great-
nephews; a special friend, Margie Brown and family; and other special friends.She was
preceded in death by her husband, John Hampton, who died July 20, 2004; three
sisters, Bessie Ross, Nora Butts and Mattie Needham; and one brother, George Hibbard.
She enjoyed gardening, canning, reading her Bible and spending time with friends and
family. She also loved watching “Wheel of Fortune.”Funeral services are 2 p.m.
Tuesday Nov. 25, 2008, in Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., with

Hunter, James R. "Dick"   

James R. “Dick” Hunter, 82, of Terre Haute, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, in Union
Hospital. He was a salesman for Sears Roebuck and Company for over 30 years in both
Terre Haute and Oceanside, Calif., where he lived for 33 years. Dick was born on July
22, 1926, in Terre Haute, to Herman Hunter and Florence Brunken Hunter. His wife,
Delorma Corzine Hunter, preceded him in death.Survivors include his sisters-in-law,
Luna Hunter of Terre Haute and Betty Hunter of Mishawaka; brother-in-law, George
Butwin of Seelyville; 12 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces, nephews, and
cousins. He also was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Robert W. Hunter;
brother, Joseph Hunter; and a sister, Margaret L. Butwin.Dick attended Sacred Heart of
Jesus Catholic Church and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of
American Legion Post 104, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972, Rea Park Senior Golf
League and was an avid Pacer fan.Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m.

Lois A. McGlosson, 85, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday afternoon, Nov. 21, 2008,
in Meadows Manor North Retirement and Convalescent Center. She was born on Apr.
15, 1923, in Clay County, to Chauncey and Consuelo (Scharf) Parkins. She loved
cooking and was a member of the Maple Avenue United Methodist Church for over 60
years.Survivors include her two daughters, Elsie Hummel and husband Dale of Elkhart
and Ronda Gant and husband Ray of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Mike Gant and wife
Julie of Terre Haute, Kris Gant of Hobart, Lori Coomey of South Carolina, and Scott
Gant of Terre Haute; and great-grandchildren, Brittany Sherron of Rockville, Ryan and
Justin Gant of Terre Haute, Kaitlyn Gant of Hobart, Aaron Gant of Terre Haute,
Elizabeth Perkins of South Carolina and Joshua Gant of Terre Haute. Also surviving are

Gerrith E. “Seymore” May, 64, of Terre Haute, passed away at 10:53 p.m. Friday Nov.
21, 2008 in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was the president and owner of Wabash
Valley Hydraulics, which he opened in Terre Haute in 1978. He was born on Jan. 13,
1944, in Linton Township in Pimento, to Elmer Leon May and Hazel Catherine Duke
May.Survivors include his wife, Wanda Sheese May, whom he married on Oct. 25,
1969, in Terre Haute; his parents of Terre Haute; five children, Dallas May and his wife
Catherine of Terre Haute, Traci Shaffer and her husband Brad of Waldron, Dawn
Thomas and her husband Steve of Mooresville, Kevin May and his wife Tricia and
Bobbie Jo May, all of Terre Haute; two brothers, Keith May and his wife Karen of
Sullivan and Jim “J.C.” May and his wife Debbie of Bradenton, Fla.; a sister, Elonne
Davis and her husband Tom of Terre Haute; 11 grandchildren; one great-
granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.He was preceded in death
by two grandchildren.He invented and developed several hydraulic apparatuses
including the May-Matic which he had patented. He was a member of the Melody Boys
Quartet, past president of the Wabash Valley Corvette Club, and a member of the

Leola R. Padgett, 79, of Terre Haute passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, in Royal
Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Sept. 23, 1929, in Paris, Ill., to
David and Eva Foltz Bledsoe. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, and loved her church,
Victory Christian Center. Survivors include her children, Karen Hicks and husband
George, Pam Creager and husband Stephen, and Roberta Dunbar and husband Bill,
all of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Jennifer Bryant and husband Clifford of Texas, Krista

Rachel Roberts, and Florence Amolsch. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Victory
Christian Church, with the Rev. Dana Coverstone officiating. Burial will follow at
Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Saturday at the church.

Galloway Jr., Hugh Curtis    

Hugh Curtis Galloway Jr., 60, of Virginia Beach, Va., and formerly of Terre Haute died
Nov. 12, 2008. He was born March 27, 1948, to Hugh Galloway Sr. and Bessie Ramsey
Galloway. His mother preceded him in death on March 12, 1998. He was a graduate of
the former Garfield High School and had attended Indiana State University. He was a
U.S. Navy veteran during the Vietnam era, having served aboard the USS Yorktown,
and also was stationed in Iceland. For many years he was in the food service industry.
He was a member of Wayne Newton American Legion Post 346, and the Fraternal
Order of Eagles in Virginia Beach. He is survived by his father of Terre Haute; sister,
Nancy Hayne and husband William of Terre Haute; niece, Sherry Smith and husband
Jimmy of Decatur, Texas; nephew, William P. Hayne and wife Kelley of Farmersburg;
great-niece, Kelsey Smith of Denton, Texas; great-nephew, Mitchell Hayne of
Farmersburg; and long time friend, Wesley Bragg of Virginia Beach, Va.Cremation was
in Virginia. Friends and family will gather at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill
Dr., at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday for a procession to Roselawn Chapel of Memories, where
they will have a memorial service at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Mark Grayless officiating.
Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, with graveside military honors by Wabash
Valley Veterans Honor Guard. For those who choose, memorial contributions may be

Reynolds Sr., Raymond E. (Ike)    

Raymond (Ike) E. Reynolds Sr., 68, of Seelyville, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, in
Union Hospital’s emergency room, after suffering a heart attack at home. He was born
Jan. 25, 1940, in Terre Haute, to Arthur Reynolds and Agnes Rogers Reynolds.
Raymond was retired from the Vigo County Courthouse, where he worked for 14 years
in the maintenance department, and was the night watchman for six years. Survivors
include his wife of 48 years, LaCheeta Church Reynolds; sons, Raymond Reynolds
and wife Nancy, James Reynolds and good friend Lora, Ralph Reynolds and wife
Cheryl, all of Terre Haute, and Brian Reynolds of Seelyville; step-son, Yancy Church
and his wife of Terre Haute; sister, Nancy Winters of Terre Haute; a grandson, Frank of
Kentucky; two stepgrandsons; a great-grandson and great-granddaughters; nieces,
nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; and his best friend, Larry Chester of Muncie. He
was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George Reynolds; and a brother-in-
law, Donald Winters. Raymond loved to hunt and fish. Funeral services are 2 p.m.
today in Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Larry Reck
officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, with military services by Veterans

Chalos, Ulla   

Ulla Chalos, 70, of Terre Haute, died at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, in Davis
Gardens Health Center. She was born on Nov. 10, 1937, in Vaigia, Greece, to Thomas
Angelou and Morfo Minas.Survivors include her sons, Jim Chalos and wife Tina and
John Chalos; daughter, Kathy and Jack Miller; six grandchildren, Adam, Aron, Austin,
Alexis Chalos, and Sydney and Zachary Miller; and several nieces and nephews.She
was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Pete Chalos, on June 4, 2006; her
parents; two older brothers; two sons; and one daughter.She developed Hellenic
Charity’s Womens Aglow and was Sunday School teacher for First Assembly of God.
She was the first lady of Terre Haute for 16 years and recipient of Sagamore of the
Wabash by Governor Evan Bayh.Services are 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Cross
Tabernacle Church, 2929 N. Seventh Street, with the Rev. Keith Taylor officiating.
Callings hours are 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the church. Burial is in Roselawn

Farris, Thomas A.   

BRAZIL — Thomas A. Farris, 90, of Brazil, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at
Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born May 17, 1918, in Prairie Creek, the son
of Emmett and Lenora McClanahan Farris. He graduated from Honey Creek High
School in 1936. He was drafted into the U.S. Army at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Feb. 9,
1942. His basic training was at Fort Leonardwood, Mo. He attended and graduated
First Army Engineer School at Fort Belvior, Va. Then assigned to the Headquarters
Company of the 131st Combat Engineer Battalion at Camp Shelby, Miss., then Fort
Polk, La., Fort Ord, Calif., then to Camp Stoneman, Calif. From here he went to New
Calidonia, Guadacanal, New Georgia, Bouganville. He was honored to be chosen flag
bearer (out of 2000 troops at the island) at the Victory in Europe Paradeon Bouganville
Island. He also went to New Britain, Green, New Guenia, Mindaneo and Luson in the
Philippines. When the war was over he returned to Camp Stoneman, and from there to
Camp Atterbury, Ind., where he was discharged on Nov. 28, 1945.He met Mary Lou
Hipkiss on Dec. 1, 1945, after a short courtship they were married April 21, 1946. He
worked at Commercial Solvents a short time. Then he joined the Plumbers and
Steamfitters of America Local Union 157.Tom’s nephew, George Robertson, came to
live with them when he was 12 years old, he joined the U.S. Navy when he was 20
years old. Tom and Mary Lou bought a small farm in Nevins Township where they now
live. They took an active part in Boy Scouts and 4-H with their children. He served on
the Vigo County 4-H Council for several years. He was superintendent of the Vigo
County Sheep Barn for several years. He served on the School Board Advisory
Counsel. They joined the Swinging Mates Square Dance Club and were members for
more than 30 years. They were members of Clay County Pleasure Riders Saddle Club
for several years. He is a member of American Legion Post 2 in Brazil. They were
active with their grandsons Horse and Pony 4-H project.They retired in 1980, and
spent time traveling and visiting friends and family in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky,
Pennsylvania, Kansas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Canada.Being interested in
genealogy they have traced Tom’s family back to 1662, with Ian Isom Farris, who
arrived at Albermarle Colony in North Carolina in 1662. They have also traced the
Hipkiss family back to 1879, when William Hipkiss and his wife Mary Ann Clark came to
Allegheny County, Pa., from England.Tom was preceded in death by his parents;
brothers, Edgar, Robert and William; sisters, Pauline Robertson, Wanda Liggett,
Waneta Farris and Beulah Farris.Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Lou
Farris; son, Robert T. Farris and wife Becky of Elizabeth City, N.C.; daughter, Kathy
Thompson and husband Dave of Brazil; granddaughter, Shelly Farris Houser and
husband Steve of Kinston, N.C.; grandsons, Ryan Swearingen and wife Jennifer of
Brazil, and Danny Swearingen and wife Ashley of Terre Haute; great-grandchildren,
Brandon Noyes, Brooks Houser, Zachary Swearingen, Luke Swearingen, and Ava
Rose Swearingen; a brother, Kenneth Farris; many nieces, nephews, and extended
family.Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at 1 p.m., at Lawson–
Miller Chapel, with Pastors Lyle Monnett and Steve Brattain officiating. Burial will follow
at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.,
and prior to services on Saturday.  
Wilkey, William J.    

William J. “Bill” Wilkey, 85, of Terre Haute, died in Davis Gardens Health Center on
Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008. He retired in 1983 as a driver for Ryder Truck Lines and was
a member of the Teamsters. He was born in Terre Haute on Aug. 13, 1923, the son of
Dennis G. and Virginia (Davis) Wilkey. He married Betty Spears on Dec. 22, 1945, and
she survives.Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Searing and
husband Dutch; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Laura Wilkey and Steve
and Libby Wilkey, all of Terre Haute; one sister, Evelyn Steele of California; three
grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.He was known throughout his
neighborhood as a fix-it man and also enjoyed the outdoors. His career in
transportation was initiated by his father, who owned a trucking company, and even
though he did not serve in the military, he did his part in World War II by hauling
armaments on the East Coast.Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday in DeBaun
Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with Elder Curtis Mitchell officiating. Burial is in
Roselawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. For those

Ford, Jeanette    

Jeanette Ford, 85, of Terre Haute, was called home to be with her Lord in Oscoda,
Mich., at her daughter’s home on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008. She was born on Feb. 5,
1923, in Farmersburg, to Walter A. and Celeste (Maink) Johnson. Mrs. Ford worked as
a payroll clerk for Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute for several
years until retiring in 1985. She married Jack Ford, on June 23, 1982. She attended
Gerstmeyer High School and graduated in 1941. She was a member of the First
Baptist Church in Terre Haute. She enjoyed being with family and friends, church
activities, Bible study, choir, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, dancing,
gardening and word search puzzles. Mrs. Ford was a member of the Daughters of the
Nile, Badoura Temple 23 and also a member of the Finders Seekers.She was
preceded in death by her parents, Raleigh and Celeste Stephens; sister Mary
Edwards; and her husband, Jack Ford.Survivors include two daughters, Celeste J.
Taylor and husband Tim of Oscoda and Jacquelyn Thode and husband Lee of
Michigan City; stepson, Dr. Steven Ford and wife Dr. Cinthia Ford of Pittsburg, Kan.;
one brother, Nelson Stephens of Terre Haute; two half brothers, Bobby Johnson of
Illinois and Dale Johnson of California; one brother-in-law, James D. Edwards; and a
half sister, Laura Smith of Terre Haute; two grandchildren, Ross Taylor and wife
Christine of Martin, Ga., and Kim Richards and husband Eric of Oscoda; four great-
grandchildren, Ethan and Emma Taylor of Martin and Mackenzie and Lauren Richards

Mary Elizabeth Miller, 85, Terre Haute passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, in Royal
Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Sept. 13, 1923, in Terre
Haute, to Frank and Margaret (Donham) Miller. She was a member of Sacred Heart
Church.Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Bailey and husband Anthony of
Cypress, Texas and Mona Lisa Roy of Terre Haute; siblings, Barbara Baccarello,
Robert Miller and wife Cindy, John Miller and wife Shannon, Edward Miller, Ronnie
